Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The objective of this research was to explore the associations between dietary PUFAs intake and hyperuricemia risk. METHODS AND RESULTS Based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003-2015, all eligible individuals were divided into hyperuricemia and non-hyperuricemia groups based on diagnostic criteria for hyperuricemia (serum uric acid >420 μmol/L for men and >360 μmol/L for women). Multivariate-adjusted logistic regression was employed to explore the relationship between dietary PUFAs intake and hyperuricemia risk. Total PUFAs and their subtypes were modeled to isocalorically replace saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). Higher intake of n-3 PUFAs, n-6 PUFAs, linoleic acid (LA), alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), and non-marine PUFAs intake correlated with decreased hyperuricemia risk, with adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CIs) were 0.77 (0.63, 0.93), 0.75 (0.61, 0.92), 0.75 (0.61, 0.91), 0.69 (0.55, 0.87), and 0.73 (0.59, 0.91), respectively. Replacing 5% of total energy intake from SFAs with isocaloric PUFAs was associated with decreased odds of hyperuricemia in men (0.69 (0.57, 0.84)) and in individuals (0.81 (0.71, 0.92)). Similar trends were observed in the substitution of SFAs with non-marine PUFAs in men (0.87 (0.80, 0.94)) and in all individuals (0.92 (0.88, 0.98)). Sensitivity analyses exhibited consistent results with primary analyses. CONCLUSION Higher dietary intake of n-3 PUFAs, n-6 PUFAs, LA, ALA, and non-marine PUFAs was associated with decreased hyperuricemia risk. These results support the recommendation to substitute SFAs with PUFAs in diet.

Abstract
Tree peony is cultivated worldwide in large quantities due to its exceptional ornamental and medicinal value. In recent years, the edible value of tree peony seed oil (TPSO) has garnered significant attention for its high content of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, >40%) and other beneficial minor components, including phytosterols, tocopherols, squalene, and phenolics. This review provides a systematic summary of the nutritional composition and health-promoting effects of TPSO, with a specific focus on its digestion, absorption, bioavailability, and encapsulation status. Additionally, information on techniques for extracting and identifying adulteration of TPSO, as well as its commercial applications and regulated policies, is included. Thanks to its unique nutrients, TPSO offers a wide range of health benefits, such as hypolipidemic, anti-obesity, cholesterol-lowering, antioxidant and hypoglycemic activities, and regulation of the intestinal microbiota. Consequently, TPSO shows promising potential in the food and cosmetic industries and should be cultivated in more countries. However, the application of TPSO is hindered by its low bioavailability, poor stability, and limited water dispersibility. Therefore, it is crucial to develop effective delivery strategies, such as microencapsulation and emulsion, to overcome these limitations. In conclusion, this review provides a comprehensive understanding of the nutritional value of TPSO and emphasizes the need for further research on its nutrition and product development.

Abstract
This study investigated whether long-chain n-3 PUFA (LC n-3 PUFA) given to pregnant rats fed a high-fat (HF) diet may prevent fetal programming in male offspring at adulthood. Six weeks before mating, and throughout gestation and lactation, female nulliparous Sprague-Dawley rats were given a chow (C) diet, HF (60·6 % fat from maize, rapeseed oils and lard) or HF in which one-third of fat was replaced by fish oil (HF n-3). At weaning, the three offspring groups were randomly separated in two groups fed C diet, or HF without LC n-3 PUFA, for 7 weeks until adulthood. Glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity were assessed by an oral glucose tolerance test both at weaning and at adulthood. Insulin signalling was determined in liver, muscle and adipose tissue by quantification of the phosphorylation of Akt on Ser 473 at adulthood. At weaning, as at adulthood, offspring from HF-fed dams were obese and displayed glucose intolerance (GI) and insulin resistance (IR), but not those from HFn-3 fed dams. Following the post-weaning C diet, phosphorylation of Akt was strongly reduced in all tissues of offspring from HF dams, but to a lesser extent in liver and muscle of offspring from HFn-3 dams. However, it was abolished in all tissues of all offspring groups fed the HF post-weaning diet. Thus, LC n-3 PUFA introduced in a HF in dams partially prevented the transmission of GI and IR in adult offspring even though they were fed without LC n-3 PUFA from weaning.

Abstract
Maternal omega-3 (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) deficiency can affect offspring's adiposity and metabolism by modulating lipid and glucose metabolism. However, the impact of n-3 PUFA deficiency on the development of fetal thermogenesis and its consequences is not reported. Using an n-3 PUFA deficient mice, we assessed fetal interscapular brown adipose tissue (iBAT), body fat composition, insulin growth factor-1 (IGF-1), glucose transporters (GLUTs), and expression of lipid storage & metabolic proteins in the offspring. The n-3 PUFA deficiency did not change the pups' calorie intake, organ weight, and body weight. However, the offspring's skeletal growth was altered due to excess fat to lean mass, reduced tibia & femur elongation, dysregulated IGF-1 in the mother and pups (P< .05). Localization of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) in iBAT exhibited a reduced expression in the deficient fetus. Further, UCP1, GLUT1, GPR120 were downregulated while FABP3, ADRP, GLUT4 expressions were upregulated in the BAT of the deficient offspring (P< .05). The deficiency decreased endogenous conversion of the n-3 LCPUFAs from their precursors and upregulated SCD1, FASN, and MFSD2A mRNAs in the liver (P< .05). An altered musculoskeletal growth in the offspring is associated with impaired browning of the fetal adipose, dysregulated thermogenesis, growth hormone, and expression of glucose and fatty acid metabolic mediators due to maternal n-3 PUFA deficiency. BAT had higher metabolic sensitivity compared to WAT in n-3 PUFA deficiency. Maternal n-3 PUFA intake may prevent excess adiposity by modulating fetal development of thermogenesis and skeletal growth dynamics in the mice offspring.

Abstract
Objective The proportion of n-6/n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) plays an important role in regulating lipid metabolism. This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary n-6/n-3 PUFA ratios on body fat deposition, tissues fatty acid composition, and gene expression of liver lipid metabolism of silver foxes during the winter fur growth period. Methods Forty-eight age-matched male silver foxes with similar body weights were randomly divided into four dietary groups for 47 days, which were fed n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio with 3, 18, 41, and 136 experimental diets, respectively. Results Dietary n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio did not significantly influence fat deposition parameters except for hepatic fat content. The variation trend of the fatty acid composition of liver, intramuscular fat, and subcutaneous fat in silver fox was directly related to dietary fatty acid content (p < 0.05). With the dietary n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio increasing, the expression of liver fatty acid synthase (FAS) mRNA and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) mRNA exhibited the trend of first decreasing and then increasing (p < 0.05), whereas L-fatty acid binding protein (L-FABP) mRNA expression showed a gradual increasing trend (p < 0.05). Conclusion In summary, silver foxes fed an n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio 18:1 diet (supplementing with 9.38% corn oil and 4.62% soybean oil) was more conducive to lipid decomposition, PUFA transport, and utilization of tissues, thereby meeting it for supplying energy and withstanding the cold.

Abstract
Throughout history, pollution has become a part of our daily life with the improvement of life quality and the advancement of industry and heavy industry. In recent years, the adverse effects of heavy metals, such as cadmium (Cd), on human health have been widely discussed, particularly on the immune system. Here, this review summarizes the available evidence on how Cd exposure may affect health. By analyzing the general manifestations of inflammation caused by Cd exposure, we find that the role of omega-3 (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in vivo can counteract Cd-induced harm. Additionally, we elucidate the effects of n-3 PUFAs on the immune system, and analyze their prophylactic and therapeutic effects on Cd exposure. Overall, this review highlights the role of n-3 PUFAs in the pathological changes induced by Cd exposure. Although n-3 PUFAs remain to be verified whether they can be used as therapeutic agents, as rehabilitation therapy, supplementation with n-3 PUFAs is reliable and effective.

Abstract
Osteoblasts play a key role in bone remodeling. Recent studies have reported that some hypertrophic chondrocytes co-expressing collagen I(Col I) and collagen X (ColX) could directly transdifferentiate into osteoblasts during endochondral ossification. However, whether nutrition intervention is beneficial to this transformation to improve osteoporosis (OP) remains unknown. In this study, ovariectomy (OVX)-induced OP mice were orally administered with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in different molecular forms for 13 weeks. The results showed that both DHA-triglyceride (DHA-TG) and DHA-phosphatidylcholine (DHA-PC) increased the bone mineral density and bone mineral apposition rate in ovariectomized mice, while DHA-ethyl esters (DHA-EE) had little effect. Interestingly, we found that both DHA-PC and DHA-TG increased the height of the growth plate, mainly increasing the number of hypertrophic chondrocytes. Further investigation by simultaneously labeling ColX and ColI indicated that DHA-PC and DHA-TG promoted the number of chondrocyte-transdifferentiated osteoblasts in the growth plate close to the diaphysis, in which DHA-PC performed better than DHA-TG. Apoptosis was not the only fate of hypertrophic chondrocytes. Western blot results showed that both DHA-TG and DHA-PC downregulated the Bax and cleaved-caspase3 expression and upregulated Bcl-2 expression in the growth plate, suggesting that chondrocyte apoptosis is inhibited. Runx2, the key regulator of chondrocyte-to-osteoblast transdifferentiation, was significantly increased by DHA-TG and DHA-PC, while DHA-EE had no effect on the above indicators. To our best knowledge, this is the first report that both DHA-PC and DHA-TG enhanced bone formation via promoting the chondrocyte-to-osteoblast transdifferentiation in the growth plate, contributing to the amelioration of OP. These activities depend on the molecular forms of DHA and their bioavailabilities. Our results provide guidance for the application of fish oil for bone health.
