Performance of lung cancer screening with low-dose CT in Gejiu, Yunnan: A population-based, screening cohort study

[Results of Lung Cancer Screening with Low-dose Computed Tomography and Exploration of Risk Factors in Guangzhou]

BACKGROUND

Both of lung cancer incidence and mortality rank first among all cancers in China. Previous lung cancer screening trials were mostly selective screening for high-risk groups such as smokers. Non-smoking women accounted for a considerable proportion of lung cancer cases in Asia. This study aimed to evaluate the outcome of community-based mass screening in Guangzhou and identify the high-risk factors for lung cancer.

METHODS

Residents aged 40-74 years in Guangzhou were screened with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) for lung cancer and the pulmonary nodules were classified and managed according to China National Lung Cancer Screening Guideline with Low-dose Computed Tomography (2018 version). The detection rate of positive nodules was calculated. Before the LDCT examination, residents were required to complete a "lung cancer risk factors questionnaire". The risk factors of the questionnaire were analyzed by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) penalized Logistic regression analysis.

RESULTS

A total of 6256 residents were included in this study. 1228 positive nodules (19.63%) and 117 lung cancers were confirmed, including 6 cases of Tis, 103 cases of stage I (accounting for 88.03% of lung cancer). The results of LASSO penalized Logistic regression analysis indicated that age ≥50 yr (OR=1.07, 95%CI: 1.06-1.07), history of cancer (OR=3.29, 95%CI: 3.22-3.37), textile industry (OR=1.10, 95%CI: 1.08-1.13), use coal for cooking in childhood (OR=1.14, 95%CI: 1.13-1.16) and food allergy (OR=1.10, 95%CI: 1.07-1.13) were risk factors of lung cancer for female in this district.

CONCLUSIONS

This study highlighted that numerous early stages of lung cancer cases were detected by LDCT, which could be applied to screening of lung cancer in women. Besides, age ≥50 yr, personal history of cancer, textile industry and use coal for cooking in childhood are risk factors for women in this district, which suggested that it's high time to raise the awareness of early lung cancer screening in this group.

[Effectiveness Evaluation of Low-dose Spiral Computed Tomography for Lung Cancer Screening in Minhang District of Shanghai]

BACKGROUND

Low-dose spiral computed tomography (LDCT) has been recommended for lung cancer screening in high-risk populations. However, evidence from Chinese populations was limited due to the different criteria for high-risk populations and the short-term follow-up period. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness in Chinese adults based on the Lung Cancer Screening Program in Minhang District of Shanghai initiated in 2013.

METHODS

A total of 26,124 subjects aged 40 years or above were enrolled in the Lung Cancer Screening Program during the period of 2013 and 2017. Results of LDCT examination, and screen-detected cancer cases in all participants were obtained from the Reporting System of the Lung Cancer Screening Program. The newly-diagnosed cases and their vital status up to December 31, 2020 were identified through a record linkage with the Shanghai Cancer Registry and the Shanghai Vital Statistics. Standardized incidence ratio (SIR) and 95%CI were calculated using the local population at ages of 40 or above as the reference. Proportions of early-stage cancer (stage 0-I), pathological types, and 5-year observed survival rates of lung cancer cases were estimated and compared between the cases derived from the screened and non-screened populations. Cox regression models were applied to evaluate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95%CI of LDCT screening with all-cause death of the lung cancer cases.

RESULTS

The crude and age-standardized incidence of lung cancer in screened population were 373.3 (95%CI: 343.1-406.1) and 70.3 per 100,000 person-years, respectively, with an SIR of 1.8 (95%CI: 1.6-1.9), which was observed to decrease with following-up time. The early-stage cancer accounted for 49.4% of all lung cancer cases derived from the screened population, significantly higher than 38.4% in cases from the non-screened population during the same period (P<0.05). The proportion of lung adenocarcinoma (40.7% vs 35.9%) and 5-year survival rate (53.7% vs 41.5%) were also significantly higher in the cases from the screened population (all P<0.05). LDCT screening was associated with 30% (HR=0.7, 95%CI: 0.6-0.8) reduced all-cause deaths of the cases.

CONCLUSIONS

The participants of the screening program are at high-risk of lung cancer. LDCT favors the early-detection of lung cancer and improves 5-year survival of the screened cases, indicating a great potential of LDCT in reducing the disease burden of lung cancer in Chinese populations.

Accuracy of baseline low-dose computed tomography lung cancer screening: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND

Screening using low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is a more effective approach and has the potential to detect lung cancer more accurately. We aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to estimate the accuracy of population-based screening studies primarily assessing baseline LDCT screening for lung cancer.

METHODS

MEDLINE, Excerpta Medica Database, and Web of Science were searched for articles published up to April 10, 2022. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the data of true positives, false-positives, false negatives, and true negatives in the screening test were extracted. Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 was used to evaluate the quality of the literature. A bivariate random effects model was used to estimate pooled sensitivity and specificity. The area under the curve (AUC) was calculated by using hierarchical summary receiver-operating characteristics analysis. Heterogeneity between studies was measured using the Higgins I2 statistic, and publication bias was evaluated using a Deeks' funnel plot and linear regression test.

RESULTS

A total of 49 studies with 157,762 individuals were identified for the final qualitative synthesis; most of them were from Europe and America (38 studies), ten were from Asia, and one was from Oceania. The recruitment period was 1992 to 2018, and most of the subjects were 40 to 75 years old. The analysis showed that the AUC of lung cancer screening by LDCT was 0.98 (95% CI: 0.96-0.99), and the overall sensitivity and specificity were 0.97 (95% CI: 0.94-0.98) and 0.87 (95% CI: 0.82-0.91), respectively. The funnel plot and test results showed that there was no significant publication bias among the included studies.

CONCLUSIONS

Baseline LDCT has high sensitivity and specificity as a screening technique for lung cancer. However, long-term follow-up of the whole study population (including those with a negative baseline screening result) should be performed to enhance the accuracy of LDCT screening.

The impact of low-dose CT on smoking behavior among non-smokers, former-smokers, and smokers: A population-based screening cohort in rural China

BACKGROUND

Lung cancer screening may provide a "teachable moment" for the smoking cessation and relapse prevention. However, the impact of lung cancer screening on smoking initiation in non-smokers has not been reported.

METHODS

A baseline smoking behavior survey was conducted in 2000 participants who were screened by low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) from 2014 to 2018. All participants were re-surveyed on their smoking behavior in 2019. Of these, 312 participants were excluded, leaving 1688 participants in the final analysis. The smoking initiation rate in baseline non-smokers, the relapse rate in baseline former smokers, and the abstinence rate in baseline current smokers were calculated, respectively. The associations between screening results, demographic characteristics, and smoking behavior change were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression.

RESULTS

From 2014 to 2019, smoking prevalence significantly decreased from 52.6% to 49.1%. The prevalence of smoking initiation, relapse, and abstinence in baseline non-smokers, former, and current smokers was 16.8%, 22.9%, and 23.7%, respectively. The risk of smoking initiation in baseline non-smokers was significantly higher in those with negative screening result (adjusted OR = 2.97, 95% CI: 1.27-6.94). Compared to smokers who only received baseline screening, the chance of smoking abstinence in baseline current smokers was reduced by over 80% in those who attended 5 rounds of screening (adjusted OR = 0.15, 95% CI:0.08-0.27). No significant associations were found between smoking relapse and prior screening frequency, with at least one positive screening result. Age, gender, occupational exposure, income, and smoking pack years were also associated with smoking behavior changes.

CONCLUSIONS

The overall decreased smoking prevalence indicated an overwhelming effect of "teachable moment" on "license to smoke." A tailored smoking cessation strategy should be integrated into lung cancer screening.

[China National Lung Cancer Screening Guideline with Low-dose Computed Tomography (2023 Version)]

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in China. The effectiveness of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening has been further validated in recent years, and significant progress has been made in research on identifying high-risk individuals, personalizing screening interval, and management of screen-detected findings. The aim of this study is to revise China national lung cancer screening guideline with LDCT (2018 version). The China Lung Cancer Early Detection and Treatment Expert Group (CLCEDTEG) designated by the China's National Health Commission, and China Lung Oncolgy Group experts, jointly participated in the revision of Chinese lung cancer screening guideline (2023 version). This revision is based on the recent advances in LDCT lung cancer screening at home and abroad, and the epidemiology of lung cancer in China. The following aspects of the guideline were revised: (1) lung cancer risk factors besides smoking were considered for the identification of high risk population; (2) LDCT scan parameters were further classified; (3) longer screening interval is recommended for individuals who had negative LDCT screening results for two consecutive rounds; (4) the follow-up interval for positive nodules was extended from 3 months to 6 months; (5) the role of multi-disciplinary treatment (MDT) in the management of positive nodules, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer were emphasized. This revision clarifies the screening, intervention and treatment pathways, making the LDCT screening guideline more appropriate for China. Future researches based on emerging technologies, including biomarkers and artificial intelligence, are needed to optimize LDCT screening in China in the future.

The Introduction of Low-Dose CT Imaging and Lung Cancer Overdiagnosis in Chinese Women

BACKGROUND

Overdiagnosis of lung cancer by low-dose CT (LDCT) screening has raised concerns globally. LDCT screening has been used widely in employee health examinations in China since 2011.

RESEARCH QUESTION

Has the increasing use of LDCT in low-risk populations in China led to lung cancer overdiagnosis?

STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS

A total of 34,152 incident cases of and 27,208 deaths resulting from lung cancer in a population of approximately 3 million were derived from the Cancer Surveillance of Shanghai between 2002 and 2017. Changes in stage-specific and histologic type-specific incidence and mortality and incidence rate ratio (IRR) relative to the base year 2002 or to the period 2002 through 2005 were calculated by sex and were used to evaluate potential overdiagnosisve of lung cancer.

RESULTS

In men, both age-adjusted incidence of and mortality as a result of lung cancer decreased significantly up to 2008 and thereafter remained stable; in women, the incidence increased rapidly from 2011 (annual percentage change, 11.98%; 95% CI, 9.57%-14.45%), whereas the mortality declined persistently. The upward trend of incidence mainly was observed in lung adenocarcinoma in both sexes, with a sharper increase from 2012 through 2017. In men, the incidence of early-stage cancer increased 6.9 per 100,000 (95% CI, 5.1-8.7 per 100,000) and was accompanied by 5.5 per 100,000 (95% CI, -9.2 to -1.7 per 100,000) decline in late-stagecancer from 2002 through 2017. In women, early-stage incidence rose 16.1 per 100,000 (95% CI, 14.0-18.3 per 100,000), but no significant decline in late-stage cancer was found (absolute difference, -0.6 per 100,000; 95% CI, -2.8 to 1.7 per 100,000). The IRR was highest in most recent period and increased most in young women, mainly for early-stage cancer or lung adenocarcinoma.

INTERPRETATION

The results provide evidence at a population level for lung cancer overdiagnosis in Chinese women resulting from increasing LDCT screening in the low-risk populations. Criteria for LDCT screening and management of screening-detected nodules need to be addressed fully for expanded application of LDCT screening in China.

Evaluation of a lung cancer screening programme attracting a cohort to actively participate in screening: Honghe Lung Cancer Medical Center Programme

Background

A lung cancer screening project was conducted by attracting active participation to evaluate its feasibility and effectiveness in areas with poor basic medical education.

Methods

This project entailed a prospective, single-arm study which was conducted by means of delivering a lecture on lung cancer at the Honghe Lung Cancer Medical Center to attract public attention and attendance from 28 November 2020 to 21 December 2021. A questionnaire comprising 7 high-risk factors was completed by participants to identify high-risk individuals for further chest low-dose computed tomography examination. Non calcified nodules with a diameter ≥5 mm were deemed positive nodules. The positive nodules were discussed by a multidisciplinary team and treatment suggestions were given. Finally, we analyzed participant information, examination adherence, lung cancer detection rate, and staging.

Results

A total of 6,121 individuals were attracted to the project, and 5,925 (96.8%) agreed to participate. Of these, 5,889 (99.4%) completed the survey, with 4,627 (78.6%) in the high-risk group and 1,262 (21.4%) in the non-high-risk group. The proportion of males in the high-risk group was higher than that in the non-high-risk group, and the difference was statistically significant among those aged 40-49 years, 50-59, years and 60-69 years; P<0.01. In the high-risk population, 4,536 (98.0%) of participants adhered to examination, among whom 2,007 (44.2%) with positive nodules, 1,220 (26.9%) with negative nodules, and 1,309 (28.9%) without nodules showed statistical differences in age; P<0.01. The detection rate of lung cancer was 2.2% (99/4,536); 94.0% (93/99) of whom were stage 0-I patients.

Conclusions

A health lecture-based approach to improving public participation in regions with poor health education is likely to be effective in promoting the early detection of lung cancer.

Thoracic Imaging in China: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

Thoracic imaging has been revolutionized through advances in technology and research around the world, and so has China. Thoracic imaging in China has progressed from anatomic observation to quantitative and functional evaluation, from using traditional approaches to using artificial intelligence. This article will review the past, present, and future of thoracic imaging in China, in an attempt to establish new accepted strategies moving forward.

Lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography: National expenditures and cost-effectiveness

Objective

To compare the cost-effectiveness of undertaking low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for early detection of lung cancer (LC) with different frequencies within the healthcare system of China, and estimate the additional national healthcare expenditure and five-year LC mortality associated with different screening frequencies.

Material and methods

A Markov model was established using national LC epidemiological data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, demographic data from the Chinese Statistical Yearbook, and cost and effectiveness data mainly from the Cancer Screening Program in China. The model included thirty sex-specific screening strategies, which were classified by initial screening age (30, 35, 40, 45, and 50), and screening intervals (intervals at single time point, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 years). The main model outputs were incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs), additional national healthcare expenditure and five-year LC mortality.

Results

The ICERs for LDCT screening strategies vs. non-screening strategy ranged from $16,086 per quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) to $3,675,491 per QALY in the male cohort, and from $36,624 per QALY to $5,943,556 per QALY in the female cohort. The annual increment national healthcare expenditures related to LDCT screening were varied from $0.25 to $13.39 billion, with the lower cost in the cohort with older screening ages and lower screening frequencies. More frequent screening with LDCT was associated with a greater reduction in LC death: an annual LDCT screening was linked to an estimated reduction in five-year LC death by 27.27-29.07%, while a one-off screening was linked to a reduction by 5.56-5.83%.

Conclusion

Under a willingness-to-pay (WTP) threshold of three times the Chinese gross domestic product (GDP) per capita (US $37,654), annual screening with an initiating age at 50 was most cost-effective in both male and female cohorts. By taking into account both the national healthcare expenditures and the effect of LDCT screening, our study results support undertaking LDCT screening annually from 50 years old in general populations.

Grid-Scale Regional Risk Assessment of Potentially Toxic Metals Using Multi-Source Data

Understanding the risks posed by potentially toxic metals (PTMs) in large regions is important for environmental management. However, regional risk assessment that relies on traditional field sampling or administrative statistical data is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and coarse. Internet data, remote sensing data, and multi-source data, have the advantage of high speed of collection, and can, thereby, overcome time lag challenges and traditional evaluation inefficiencies, although, to date, they are rarely applied. To evaluate their effectiveness, the current study used multi-source data to conduct a 1 km scale assessment of PTMs in Yunnan Province, China. In addition, a novel model to simulate potentially hazardous areas, based on atmospheric deposition, was also proposed. Assessments reveal that risk areas are mainly distributed in the east, which is consistent with the distribution of mineral resources in the province. Approximately 3.6% of the cropland and 1.4% of the sensitive population are threatened. The risk areas were verified against those reported by the government and the existing literature. The verification exercise confirmed the reliability of multi-source data, which are cost-effective, efficient, and generalizable for assessing pollution risks in large areas, particularly when there is little to no site-specific contamination information.

Interventions of Advanced Lung Cancer Patient Receiving Chemotherapy by Computed Tomography Image Information Data Analysis-Based Soothing Care Plans

The objective of this study was to investigate the intervention effect of computed tomography (CT) image information data on patients with advanced lung cancer treated with chemotherapy under palliative care program. The research subjects were 60 patients with advanced lung cancer who received palliative care in our hospital from January 1, 2019, to January 1, 2021. All patients were grouped according to the evaluation criteria of solid tumor efficacy, including 28 patients in the remission group and 32 patients in the nonremission group. Texture analysis was performed on the CT images of the two groups of patients. The gray-scale cooccurrence matrix parameters, the maximum diameter of the lesion, and the CT value of the CT images of the two groups of patients before and after palliative care were compared. The results showed that after the palliative care, the combined mean, combined energy, and inverse moment of the three gray cooccurrence matrix parameters of the two groups of patients were decreased, and the combined entropy and contrast were increased. The absolute value of the gray-scale cooccurrence matrix Δ parameter of the patients in the remission group was greater than that in the nonremission group. The Δ combined entropy, Δ contrast, and Δ correlation of the two groups of patients were significantly different, and the difference in Δ contrast was the largest. It suggested that the gray-scale cooccurrence matrix parameter can evaluate the effect of soothing care, and the contrast was the best evaluation parameter. The maximum diameter of the lesions in the remission group before and after palliative care was reduced by 1.23 cm, and the degree of reduction was significantly better. The CT value was reduced by 6.22 HU, and the degree of reduction was significantly higher than that in the nonremission group. There was a significant difference in the data between the two groups (P < 0.05). Therefore, the CT image information data had a better evaluation effect on patients with advanced lung cancer under the palliative care program and can be applied to the clinical evaluation of the palliative care effect, which had good clinical value.

Earlier diagnosis of lung cancer

The purpose of this article is to review options for more rapid diagnosis of lung cancer at an earlier stage, thereby improving survival. These options include screening, allowing general practitioners to refer patients directly to low-dose computed tomography scan instead of a chest X-ray and the abolition of the "visitation filter", i.e. hospital doctors' ability to reject referrals from general practitioners without prior discussion with the referring doctor.

Community-based lung cancer screening by low-dose computed tomography in China: First round results and a meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the efficiency of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer in China by analyzing the baseline results of a community-based screening study accompanied with a meta-analysis.

METHODS

A first round of community-based lung cancer screening with LDCT was conducted in Tianjin, China, and a systematic literature search was performed to identify LDCT screening and registry-based clinical studies for lung cancer in China. Baseline results in the community-based screening study were described by participant risk level and the lung cancer detection rate was compared with the pooled rate among the screening studies. The percentage of patients per stage was compared between the community-based study and screening and clinical studies.

RESULTS

In the community-based study, 5523 participants (43.6% men) underwent LDCT. The lung cancer detection rate was 0.5% (high-risk, 1.2%; low-risk, 0.4%), with stage I disease present in 70.0% (high-risk, 50.0%; low-risk, 83.3%), and the adenocarcinoma present in 84.4% (high-risk, 61.5%; low-risk, 100%). Among all screen-detected lung cancer, women accounted for 8.3% and 66.7% in the high- and low-risk group, respectively. In the screening studies from mainland China, the lung cancer detection rate 0.6% (95 %CI: 0.3%-0.9%) for high-risk populations. The proportions with carcinoma in situ and stage I disease in the screening and clinical studies were 76.4% (95 %CI: 66.3%-85.3%) and 15.2% (95 %CI: 11.8%-18.9%), respectively.

CONCLUSIONS

The stage shift of lung cancer due to screening suggests a potential effectiveness of LDCT screening in China. Nearly 70% of screen-detected lung cancers in low-risk populations are identified in women.

Knockdown CYP2S1 inhibits lung cancer cells proliferation and migration

BACKGROUND

The incidence of lung cancer in Yunnan area ranks firstly in the world and underlying molecular mechanisms of lung cancer in Yunnan region are still unclear. We screened a novel potential oncogene CYP2S1 used mRNA microassay and bioinformation database. The function of CYP2S1 in lung cancer has not been reported.

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the functions of CYP2S1 in lung cancer.

METHODS

Immunohistochemistry and Real-time PCR were used to verify the expression of CYP2S1. Colony formation and Transwell assays were used to determine cell proliferation, invasion and migration. Xenograft assays were used to detected cell growth in vivo.

RESULTS

CYP2S1 is significantly up-regulated in lung cancer tissues and cells. Knockdown CYP2S1 in lung cancer cells resulted in decrease cell proliferation, invasion and migration in vitro. Animal experiments showed downregulation of CYP2S1 inhibited lung cancer cell growth in vivo. GSEA analysis suggested that CYP2S1 played functions by regulating E2F targets and G2M checkpoint pathway which involved in cell cycle. Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that patients with high CYP2S1 had markedly shorter event overall survival (OS) time.

CONCLUSIONS

Our data demonstrate that CYP2S1 exerts tumor suppressor function in lung cancer. The high expression of CYP2S1 is an unfavorable prognostic marker for patient survival.

Lung cancer screening strategy for non-high-risk individuals: a narrative review

Lung cancer is the deadliest malignancy worldwide, accounting for almost 20% of all cancer deaths. Clinical trials, such as NLST and NELSON, have proved the survival benefit of lung cancer screening using low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), and most of the lung cancer screening guidelines recommended annual lung cancer screening by LDCT for high-risk individuals. However, a relatively high proportion of lung cancer patients do not have risk factors, and it is questionable whether non-high-risk individuals should receive LDCT screening. In this review, we reviewed risk factors of lung cancer and summarized the benefits and potential harms of LDCT screening. After clarifying the differences between China and western countries in lung cancer screening, we recommended that non-high-risk individuals should receive LDCT screening with an interval of five to ten years. To better balance benefits and harms from LDCT screening, we also proposed a flexible screening strategy using LDCT based on lung cancer risk. Hopefully, it may help reduce unnecessary radiation exposure from CT scans while decreasing mortality of lung cancer.

Association of cancer screening and residing in a coal-polluted East Asian region with overall survival of lung cancer patients: a retrospective cohort study

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. The Xuanwei-Fuyuan (XF) region of Yunnan, China has a high incidence of lung cancer from coal-related pollution. Effort to raise public awareness screening for lung cancer has been ongoing. We retrospectively analyzed overall survival (OS) of lung cancer patients of a tertiary cancer center in Yunnan to investigate screening and regional residential status as predictive factors. Consecutive cases of newly diagnosed lung cancer were reviewed. The lung cancer cases diagnosed by screening were more likely to be early-staged and treated by surgery than those diagnosed not by screening. In patients diagnosed not by screening, XF residential status was a significant predictor of improved OS. Frailty model detected significant heterogeneity associated with region of residence in unscreened patients. Potential biases associated with screening were examined by Monte Carlo simulations and sensitivity analyses. Focused effort in cancer screening and increased public awareness of pollution-related lung cancer in XF might have led to early diagnosis and improved OS, and increased investment in health care resources in high risk areas may have produced additional unobserved factors that underlay the association of XF residential status with improved OS in patients diagnosed not by screening.

Performance of low-dose computed tomography on lung cancer screening in high-risk populations: The experience over five screening rounds in Sichuan, China

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the performance of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) on lung cancer screening in high-risk populations in Sichuan.

METHODS

From April 2014 to July 2018, LDCT was performed annually on 3185 subjects aged 50-74 years who had smoked ≥ 20 pack-years (or subjects having quit smoking within 5 years). Information about all deaths and lung cancer diagnoses were obtained by active investigation, or passive matching to disease surveillance system.

RESULTS

The screening population had a median age of 60 years. 62.4 % of which were current smokers and had smoked 30 pack-years. After participating in the baseline screening, the compliance rates of subjects consecutively completing one round, two rounds, three rounds, and four rounds of annual screening were 67.22 %, 52.84 %, 43.24 %, and 40.04 %, respectively. The positive rates in baseline and annual screening were 6.53 % and 5.79 %, respectively. During the 5 rounds, a total of 9522 person-times were screened by LDCT with a screening sensitivity of 89.13 % (95 % CI: 76.96-95.27), specificity of 94.36 % (95 % CI: 93.88-94.81), positive predictive value of 7.13 % (95 % CI: 5.30-9.53), and negative predictive value of 99.94 % (95 % CI: 99.87-99.98). There were no statistically significant performance differences between baseline and annual screening. The difference in the proportion of screen-detected stage I lung cancer between baseline screening and annual screening was not statistically significant, neither.

CONCLUSION

The application of LDCT on lung cancer screening in high-risk populations shows favorable compliance and a high screening performance in the project area of Sichuan,China.
