Abstract
INTRODUCTION The tribes Cophomantini, Scinaxini, and Dendropsophini are anurans that belong to Hylidae, with wide distribution in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. The taxonomy and systematics of this family remain in a state of ongoing revision. Previous cytogenetic analyses of genera Boana, Bokermannohyla, Ololygon, Scinax, and Dendropsophus described some karyotypic characters such as conventional staining, C-banding and NORs, and FISH with specific probes. METHODS This study describes for the first time the karyotypes of four species: Bokermannohyla ibitipoca, Ololygon luizotavioi, Dendropsophus bipunctatus, and Dendropsophus ruschii. Furthermore, we map CA(15) and CAT(10) microsatellite sites for the aforementioned species and six more species from the same genera for insight into the chromosomal evolution within the subfamily Hyalinae. RESULTS B. ibitipoca and O. luizotavioi had 2n = 24 and karyotypic formulas 18m + 4sm + 2st and 8m + 12sm + 4st, while D. bipunctatus and D. ruschii showed 2n = 30 and karyotypic formulas 12m + 12sm + 4st + 2t and 10m + 10sm + 6st + 4t, respectively. The diploid numbers and karyotypic formulas revealed here follow the previously reported trend for Hylidae, except B. ibitipoca has a particularity of eight metacentric chromosomes, more than what is commonly found in species of this genus. The microsatellites probes CA(15) and CAT(10) had markings accumulated in blocks in the centromeric, pericentromeric, and terminal regions that were more specific for some species, as well as markings scattered along the chromosomes. We present a comprehensive review table of current data on cytogenetics of these genera. CONCLUSION Our findings showed that the karyotypes of the hylids studied here majority fit the postulated conserved diploid number (2n = 24) and morphological chromosome patterns, while the mapping of the microsatellites enabled us to detect differences between species that share similar chromosomal morphologies.

Abstract
Due to traditional classification methods' limitations, some cryptic species remain undiscovered. To better explore the existence of the Schrenck salamander (Salamandrella tridactyla, a cryptic species of Siberian salamander S. keyserlingii) in China, we conducted a molecular phylogenetic analysis to confirm the taxonomic relationship among Salamandrella species and investigate genetic variation. We used complete sequences of the mitochondrial COI gene from 65 specimens collected across a wide range in Northeastern China. Thirty-five haplotypes were obtained from six populations. They showed medium-high haplotype diversity (Hd) and low nucleotide polymorphism (π). The phylogenetic tree and haplotype network analysis revealed that populations from Greater Khingan Ridge (Huma: HM) and Lesser Khingan Ridge (Tieli: TL) belong to S. keyserlingii, while populations from Changbai Mountain (Shangzhi-zhuziying: SZ, Shangzhi-cuijia: SC, Hailin: HL, and Baishan: BS) belong to S. tridactyla. This indicates the monophyly of Salamandrella and each of the two species. There was a substantial level of genetic differentiation between different species and within populations of the same species. This differentiation was significantly related to geographical distance. At last, the mismatch distribution and neutrality analyses indicated that the TL populations have undergone expansion of history. The study supplements the distributional range of Schrenck salamander. And it provides a theoretical basis for species conservation of Salamandrella species.

Abstract
Brazil stands out for presenting the highest amphibian anuran diversity in the world. However, taxonomic studies that address characteristic of larval stage of anurans are incipient, representing only 62% of known species. We assess the species diversity of tadpoles from eastern Maranhão state, mid-northern region of Brazil based on morphological and molecular identification (i.e., 16S rRNA gene fragment), and we also provide characteristics of the habitats occupied by each species. We carried out 30 field samplings during 13 months in 16 environments along an ecotonal area, over five cities inside the limits of state of Maranhão, between the Maranhão Babaçu Forest and Cerrado ecoregions. We searched for tadpoles in a variety of water bodies, and the tadpoles that reached the developmental stage between 34 to 40 Gosner were morphologically identified. The tadpoles collected herein represent 26 species belonging to five families. The external morphology enabled the identification of 24 species, while the molecular data recognized 22 unique evolutionary units. The most represented family was Hylidae (Hylinae 11 spp., Phyllomedusinae one spp.) followed by Leptodactylidae (Leptodactylinae seven spp., Leiuperinae three spp.), Microhylidae (Gastrophryninae two spp.), and Bufonidae (two spp.). Our results show that oral morphology was the most important character for identifying tadpoles based on morphology, and the specific 16S rRNA primer was suitable for molecular identification. This study pioneers the use of both morphological and molecular data to identify tadpoles in the state of Maranhão. It also provides, for the first-time, habitat characteristic for the species. Our study reveals a high number of anuran species sampled at the larval stage in the region, identifies species that require further taxonomic and systematic attention, and extends the geographic distribution of six species, three of which represent new occurrences for the state. Our results strengthen the hypothesis that the diversity of amphibians from Maranhão is underestimated and highlight the importance of herpetological inventories in poorly sampled areas, decentralizing the knowledge of biodiversity.

Abstract
Understanding the processes that generate and maintain biodiversity at and below the species level is a central goal of evolutionary biology. Here we explore the spatial and temporal drivers of diversification of the treefrog subgroup Dendropsophus rubicundulus, a subgroup of the D. microcephalus species group, over periods of pronounced geological and climatic changes in the Neotropical savannas that they inhabit. This subgroup currently comprises 11 recognized species distributed across the Brazilian and Bolivian savannas, but the taxonomy has been in a state of flux, necessitating reexamination. Using newly generated single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data from restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (RADseq) and mitochondrial 16S sequence data for ∼150 specimens, we inferred phylogenetic relationships, tested species limits using a model-based approach, and estimated divergence times to gain insights into the geographic and climatic events that affected the diversification of this subgroup. Our results recognized at least nine species: D. anataliasiasi, D. araguaya, D. cerradensis, D. elianeae, D. jimi, D. rubicundulus, D. tritaeniatus, D. rozenmani, and D. sanborni. Although we did not collect SNP data for the latter two species, they are likely distinct based on mitochondrial data. In addition, we found genetic structure within the widespread species D. rubicundulus, which comprises three allopatric lineages connected by gene flow upon secondary contact. We also found evidence of population structure and perhaps undescribed diversity in D. elianeae, which warrants further study. The D. rubicundulus subgroup is estimated to have originated in the Late Miocene (∼5.45 million years ago), with diversification continuing through the Pliocene and Early Pleistocene, followed by the most recent divergence of D. rubicundulus lineages in the Middle Pleistocene. The epeirogenic uplift followed by erosion and denudation of the central Brazilian plateau throughout the Pliocene and Pleistocene, in combination with the increasing frequency and amplitude of climatic fluctuations during the Pleistocene, was important for generating and structuring diversity at or below the species level in the D. rubicundulus subgroup.

Abstract
AbstractDendropsophini is a highly diverse clade with a controversial phylogenetic and taxonomic history. Different generic arrangements have been proposed and the monophyly of several clades supported or rejected. Previous evidence suggested that larval morphology could play an important role in our understanding of the evolution and diversification of Dendropsophini, although data are missing for most lineages, including the sister group of Dendropsophus, Xenohyla. Herein we describe the internal morphology of the tadpoles of X. truncata and compare our results with available information for members of Dendropsophini and closely related lineages. We propose that the presence of a fan-like papilla in the buccopharyngeal cavity, a single element suprarostral, and a triangular process at the base of the muscular process are synapomorphies for Dendropsophini; moreover, the presence of a divided m. subarcualis rectus II–IV seems to be a synapomorphy for Pseudini and, the nasal sac insertion of the m. levator lateralis could be a synapomorphy of Dendropsophini + Pseudini.

Abstract
The Atlantic Forest (AF) domain is one of the Earth’s biodiversity hotspots, known for its high levels of species diversity and endemism. Factors related to palaeoenvironmental dynamics, such as the establishment of vegetational refugia and river basins, have different impacts on biological communities and biodiversity patterns in this domain. Here, we sample genome-wide RADseq data from a widespread treefrog (Dendropsophus elegans), inhabiting natural and human-impacted ecosystems at the Brazilian AF to test the impact of riverine boundaries and climatic refugia on population structure and diversification. We estimate divergence times and migration rate across identified genetic breaks related to the rivers Doce, Paraíba do Sul, Ribeira de Iguape, and Paraguaçu, known to represent barriers to gene flow for other AF endemic species, and test the role of climatic refugia. Finally, we investigate the impact of spatio-temporal population history on morphological variation in this species. We recovered a phylogeographic history supporting three distinct clades separated into two geographically structured populations, corresponding to the north and south of AF. In addition, we identified an admixture zone between north and south populations in the latitude close to the Doce River. Our findings support a pattern of isolation-by-distance and the existence of a secondary contact zone between populations, which might have been promoted by gene flow during population expansion. Further, we found support for models considering migration parameters for all the tested rivers with different population divergence times. Based on the species history and the AF palaeoenvironmental dynamics, we corroborate the role of forest refugia impacting population structure for this species through recent range expansion after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). The Doce and Paraíba do Sul Rivers coincide with the main genetic breaks, suggesting they might also have played a role in the diversification processes. Finally, despite finding subtle correlations for phenotypic data among different populations, variation is not strongly detectable and does not seem associated with speciation-level processes that could warrant taxonomic changes. Such results can be explained by phenotypic plasticity of the evaluated traits and by recent divergence times, where there has been insufficient time and weak selective pressures to accumulate enough phenotypic differences.
