Abstract
AIM To establish the scope of the literature on modified sports interventions for children and adolescents with disabilities. METHOD For this scoping review, articles were screened and the characteristics of studies were extracted. The modified sports interventions were described in terms of their structure, using the items of the Template for Intervention Description and Replication. Components of intervention treatment were described by using the language of the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System. Results were analysed and validated by a group of professionals, using the Public and Patient Involvement strategy. RESULTS Twelve studies were eligible for inclusion, investigating interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and other conditions. Most studies presented a moderate level of evidence. Active ingredients were repeated sports-related motor training and introduction to the sport through a 'learning by action' mechanism. The intervention target was gross motor skills performance, and intervention aims (indirect outcomes) were physical activity participation and different body functions. INTERPRETATION The inclusion of stakeholders in this review helped to validate our findings about the characteristics and structure of modified sports interventions, to identify research gaps, and to provide a step process for clinical implementation. Future investigations are warranted of the effectiveness of modified sports investigations with better quality studies, including participation outcomes and studies with non-ambulant children. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS Modified sports interventions target sport-related skills performance and aim to achieve physical activity participation and body functions. These interventions included group-based, sports-related motor skills training and introduction to sports in real-world environments. They are offered mostly for ambulant children with autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy. Most studies of modified sports interventions presented moderate level of evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cortical visual impairment (CVI) is a verifiable visual dysfunction that cannot be attributed to disorders of the anterior visual pathways or any potentially co-occurring ocular impairment. Given the limited knowledge on the most effective interventions for visual impairment resulting from CVI, this case report provides valuable insights into an example of successful implementation of anti-amblyopia therapy in a patient with CVI. CASE PRESENTATION This case report presents a 5-year-old girl with CVI secondary to hypoxic-ischemic injury, resulting in visual impairment, dyspraxia, and abnormal visual evoked potential testing. The girl did not suffer from amblyopia, there was no evidence of relevant refractive errors or strabismus, so visual pathway damage was the cause of her visual deficit. Nevertheless, the patient underwent anti-amblyopia therapy and showed significant improvement in visual acuity after 12 months of treatment. The improvement, resulting from visual stimulation, was due to a good functional recovery by a better usage of the damaged visual pathways. The therapy included prescribing corrective glasses and implementing secondary occlusion of the better eye for 4 months, which was protracted for another 4 months, leading to further improvements in visual acuity. CONCLUSIONS The case report shows that addressing even minor refractive errors and implementing anti-amblyopia therapy can significantly improve vision in children with CVI, even without co-existing amblyopia. It also highlights the importance of early intervention and multidisciplinary rehabilitation in children with CVI, focusing on motor and cognitive skills. Additionally, it emphasizes the need for further research to establish evidence-based practice standards for improving vision in children with CVI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence on the socioeconomic burden associated with childhood visual impairment, severe visual impairment and blindness (VI/SVI/BL) is needed to inform economic evaluations of existing and emerging interventions aimed at protecting or improving vision. This study aimed to evaluate the quantity and quality of literature on resource use and/or costs associated with childhood VI/SVI/BL disorders. METHODS PubMed, Web of Science (Ovid), the National Health Service (NHS) Economic Evaluation Database and grey literature were searched in November 2020. The PubMed search was rerun in February 2022. Original articles reporting unique estimates of resource use or cost data on conditions resulting in bilateral VI/SVI/BL were eligible for data extraction. Quality assessment (QA) was undertaken using the Drummond checklist adapted for cost-of-illness (COI) studies. RESULTS We identified 31 eligible articles, 27 from the peer-reviewed literature and four from the grey literature. Two reported on resource use, and 29 reported on costs. Cerebral visual impairment and optic nerve disorders were not examined in any included studies, whereas retinopathy of prematurity was the most frequently examined condition. The quality of studies varied, with economic evaluations having higher mean QA scores (82%) compared to COI studies (77%). Deficiencies in reporting were seen, particularly in the clinical definitions of conditions in economic evaluations and a lack of discounting and sensitivity analyses in COI studies. CONCLUSIONS There is sparse literature on resource use or costs associated with childhood visual impairment disorders. The first step in addressing this important evidence gap is to ensure core visual impairment outcomes are measured in future randomised control trials of interventions as well as cohort studies and are reported as a discrete health outcome.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The structure-function relation between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and visual impairment (VI) in children with cerebral palsy (CP) has not been fully unravelled. The present systematic review aims to summarize the relation between brain lesions on MRI and VI in children and adolescents with CP. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, and Cochrane Database were systematically searched according to the PRISMA checklist. A total of 45 articles met the inclusion criteria. RESULTS White matter lesions were most frequently associated with VI. Only 25 studies described lesions within specific structures, mainly in the optic radiations. Only four studies reported on the thalamus. 8.4% of children with CP showed no brain abnormalities on MRI. Diffusion-weighted MRI studies showed that decreased structural connectivity in the optic radiations, superior longitudinal fasciculus, posterior limb of the internal capsule, and occipital lobe is associated with more severe VI. CONCLUSIONS All types of brain lesions lead to visual dysfunctions, arguing for a comprehensive visual assessment in all children with CP. Whereas white matter damage is a well-known contributor, the exact contribution of specific visual structures requires further investigation, to enable early prediction, detection, and intervention.

Abstract
PROFILING CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL VISUAL IMPAIRMENT USING MULTIPLE METHODS OF ASSESSMENT TO AID IN DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS: Amanda H. Lueck , Gordon N. Dutton , Sylvie Chokron Seminars in Pediatric Neurology Volume 31, October 2019, Pages 5-14 Cerebral (cortical) visual impairment (CVI), the primary cause of visual impairment in chil dren in high-income countries, is increasing globally due to improved life-saving measures for premature and full-term infants. Yet the consequences of this condition are only begin ning to be understood and addressed. According to the topography, site, and the extent of the pathology, the deficit may variably concern central visual functions, visual field, percep tion of movement, visual analysis, visual exploration, attention, or visual memory, as well as visual guidance of movement. Each affected child has a unique clinical picture, which needs to be identified and individually profiled. This is probably the underlying reason that CVI is commonly underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, especially in children, and, as a consequence, the full range of potential behavioral outcomes are not identified and adequately addressed. The present paper shows how the use of multiple methods of assessment can improve understanding of children with CVI.
