Abstract
This study aimed to explore the association between chronic pain, sleep quality, and frailty, and whether sleep quality will mediate the relationship between chronic pain and frailty. A cross-sectional study was conducted between June 2020 and July 2021 among 308 patients in Nantong city. The relationship between chronic pain and frailty was tested using linear regression. The bootstrap method was used to examine mediating effect of sleep quality. Chronic pain was significantly correlated with frailty (r=0.271, P<.001). Sleep quality played a partially mediating role between chronic pain and frailty (β=0.160, R2=32%, P<.001). Interventions to scientifically manage chronic pain and improve sleep quality may be effective in reducing the incidence of frailty in elderly cancer patients.

Abstract
Treatment for individuals with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is complex and is not always accessible to those who could benefit. The aim of this study was to conduct a preliminary evaluation of a mobile-app-delivered, cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT)-based intervention in helping adults self-manage fibromyalgia symptoms. A total of 100 adults with FMS (M [SD] age = 49.81, [9.99] years; 94% women) were given access to the digital treatment program and downloaded the app. Pain severity, anxiety symptoms, depression symptoms, fatigue, and sleep quality were assessed at pre-treatment, post-treatment, and 3-month follow-up. Fifty-three of the potential participants completed the 47-day treatment. Data showed significant improvements in pain severity (p = 0.007, d = 0.43), anxiety (p = 0.011, d = 0.40) and depressive symptoms (p = 0.001, d = 0.50) from pre-treatment to post-treatment. The effect sizes associated with app use are consistent with improvements seen in previously published clinical trials of CBT for FMS. Improvements were generally maintained, although there was some decrease in the outcomes from post-treatment to the 3-month follow-up. Most participants reported that they were very satisfied with the app. The use of the app was associated with similar levels of improvements found with in-person CBT treatment for FMS. Research to evaluate the effectiveness of the app in a controlled trial is warranted.

Pain severity ratings in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases: a versatile tool for rapid assessment. Pain 2022; 163:2421-2429. Abstract
ABSTRACT An improved classification of chronic pain is included in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). For all diagnoses of chronic pain, an optional dimensional code for the chronic pain severity will supplement the categorical diagnoses. Pain severity combines pain intensity, pain-related interference, and pain-related distress. Each component is rated by the patient on a numerical rating scale (NRS) from 0 to 10, and subsequently translated into severity stages ('mild'/'moderate'/'severe'). The present study aimed to evaluate this severity code by comparing the ratings with established psychometric measures of pain-related interference and distress. An online survey was posted to self-help groups for chronic pain, and 595 participants (88.7% women, 59.5±13.5 years) rated each of the severity parameters (pain intensity, pain-related interference, pain-related distress) on an NRS from 0 to 10 and completed the Pain Disability Index (PDI) and the Pain Coping Questionnaire (FESV, 3 subscales). The participants reported a mean pain intensity of 6.4±1.9, mean pain-related interference of 6.7±2.1, and mean pain-related distress of 5.7±2.5. The respective NRS ratings showed substantial correlations with the PDI score (r=.65) and the FESV subscales (r=.65, r=.56, r=.37). The extension code for pain severity is a valid and efficient way of recording additional dimensional pain parameters, which can be used to monitor the course of chronic pain and its treatment. The specifier's efficiency makes it possible to use the code when a questionnaire would not be feasible due to time constraints, such as in primary care.

Abstract
Electronic health literacy skills and competences are important for empowering people to have an active role in making appropriate health care decisions. The aims of this cross-sectional study were to (1) examine the frequency of use of the Internet for seeking online information about chronic pain, (2) determine the level of eHealth literacy skills in the study sample, (3) identify the factors most closely associated with higher levels of eHealth literacy, and (4) examine self-efficacy as a potential mediator of the association between eHealth literacy and measures of pain and function in a sample of adults with chronic pain. One-hundred and sixty-one adults with chronic pain completed measures assessing internet use, eHealth literacy, pain interference, anxiety, depression, and pain-related self-efficacy. Results indicated that 70% of the participants are active users of the Internet for seeking information related to their health. The level of eHealth literacy skills was not statistically significantly associated with participants’ age or pain interference but was significantly negatively associated with both anxiety and depression. In addition, the findings showed that self-efficacy fully explained the relationship between eHealth literacy and depression and partially explained the relationship between eHealth literacy and anxiety. Self-efficacy should be considered as a treatment target in eHealth literacy interventions, due to its role in explaining the potential benefits of eHealth literacy.

Abstract
Social distancing measures during the lockdown have had a negative impact on chronic pain patients' function. Research, however, has only focused on the early stages of the first lockdowns. The aim of this study was to improve the understanding of the effects of COVID-19 social distancing measures on individuals with chronic pain living in Spain during the late stages of the lockdown. A group of 361 adults with pain participated in this study. They responded to an online survey and provided information on sociodemographic issues, pain, fatigue, perceived health, and quality of life. The data showed that most participants suffered moderate to severe pain and interferences with pain treatment and an increase in pain intensity during the lockdown. Most participants also informed us that fatigue had worsened during the lockdown (62%). Importantly, females with lower monthly family income and lower education have been found to be associated with greater levels of pain and fatigue. Despite this, participants perceived themselves as having good health and good quality of life. The findings from this study can be used to inform policy and specific responses for future COVID-19 waves and future pandemics where social distancing measures must be implemented.

Abstract
Objectives: This study longitudinally examined how older adult cancer survivors perceive disability in activities of daily living over time compared to older adults who have not had cancer. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of the National Health and Aging Trends Study examining participants with a new cancer diagnosis and age-, gender-, and comorbidity-matched comparison participants without a history of cancer. Generalized linear mixed models examined time and group interaction and main effects in disability. Results: There was a significant main effect of time (F4,771 = 12.81; p < .0001) demonstrating increasing disability levels for both groups. There were significant group differences, with higher disability in the cancer group than the comparison group (β = 0.628, SE = 0.263; t = 2.39, p = 0.017). Discussion: Although perceived disability was greater immediately following cancer diagnosis, older adult cancer survivors and comparison participants appear to have similar perceived disability over time.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of psychological intervention on the prognosis of patients with C4 dislocation and spinal cord injury. METHODS We investigated target patients admitted between 2010 and 2018. Patients' mental state, quality of life and neurological function at different time points were evaluated to examine the relationship between psychological intervention and recovery and prognosis of acute and critical spinal cord injury. RESULTS All patients showed improvements in clinical symptoms, neurological function and quality of life. Psychological intervention significantly improved Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale score, Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale score and SF-36 Mental Component Summary score within 3 months. Japanese Orthopaedic Association neurological function score and SF-36 Physical Component Summary score were significantly improved after 1-year follow-up. Psychological intervention did not improve 2-year survival. CONCLUSION Timely and professional psychological intervention can eliminate the psychological disorders of C4 dislocation patients with spinal cord injury. This has a positive effect on their quality of life and prognosis.

Abstract
Background Persistent pain in breast cancer survivors is common. Psychological and sleep-related factors modulate perception, interpretation and coping with pain and may contribute to the clinical phenotype. The present analysis pursued the hypothesis that breast cancer survivors form subgroups, based on psychological and sleep-related parameters that are relevant to the impact of pain on the patients’ life. Methods We analysed 337 women treated for breast cancer, in whom psychological and sleep-related parameters as well as parameters related to pain intensity and interference had been acquired. Data were analysed by using supervised and unsupervised machine-learning techniques (i) to detect patient subgroups based on the pattern of psychological or sleep-related parameters, (ii) to interpret the detected cluster structure and (iii) to relate this data structure to pain interference and impact on life. Results Artificial intelligence-based detection of data structure, implemented as self-organizing neuronal maps, identified two different clusters of patients. A smaller cluster (11.5% of the patients) had comparatively lower resilience, more depressive symptoms and lower extraversion than the other patients. In these patients, life-satisfaction, mood, and life in general were comparatively more impeded by persistent pain. Conclusions The results support the initial hypothesis that psychological and sleep-related parameter patterns are meaningful for subgrouping patients with respect to how persistent pain after breast cancer treatments interferes with their life. This indicates that management of pain should address more complex features than just pain intensity. Artificial intelligence is a useful tool in the identification of subgroups of patients based on psychological factors. Pain interference with daily life is relevant for post-surgery breast cancer patients. 11.5% of 337 patients belonged to a subgroup with high life interference of pain. Life interference was not a function of pain intensity. Risk factors were lower resilience, more depressive symptoms and lower extraversion. Life-satisfaction, mood, and life in general were impeded by persistent pain.
