Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Pediatricians play an essential role in managing pediatric oral emergencies; hence, they should have accurate information on dental injuries. This study aimed to assess the knowledge level of pediatricians regarding traumatic dental injuries (TDI) and their awareness of the ToothSOS mobile application. MATERIALS AND METHODS A survey comprising 10 questions was created on Google forms, and the links were sent to the participants via electronic mail and a mobile application. The demographic characteristics and the knowledge level of pediatricians about TDI and their awareness of the ToothSOS mobile application were evaluated. The questions were prepared by following similar studies and the current guidelines of the International Association of Dental Traumatology. RESULTS A total of 229 pediatricians (74.2% female) participated in this study. The correct answer rates revealed statistical differences in terms of profession and experience on the following issues: the most frequently traumatized tooth, the preference of the antibiotic agent, and the management of avulsed primary tooth (p < .05). The decision to consult a dentist revealed statistical differences in the profession (p = .001). The correct answers on the correlation between the age group and dental trauma accompanied by soft tissue injuries showed statistical differences in experience (p = .005). Although none of the participants knew the ToothSOS application, 91.7% of them preferred using this tool in future practices. This rate was statistically higher in participants with an experience of more than 10 years (p = .013). CONCLUSIONS The knowledge level of pediatricians regarding dental trauma was found to be sufficient, except for the questions on avulsion injuries. However, the fact that the participants were unaware of the ToothSOS mobile application was the most considerable result of the study, and this finding highlighted the importance of informing pediatricians dealing with oral injuries regarding the latest updates on dental traumatology.

Abstract
Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) in the paediatric population are common and frequently seen in general dental practice. The management of TDIs can be challenging and, in most cases, the General Dental Practitioner is tasked with the initial assessment and emergency treatment. Patients and their families typically attend with elevated levels of distress, which is complicated by the limited dental experience of some children. Behaviour management is essential and helps prepare patients for dental care at both their emergency and follow-up appointments. Early and accurate diagnosis in combination with appropriate treatment contributes to favourable outcomes for traumatised teeth. Early discussions with or referral to paediatric dental teams for management of complex TDIs is encouraged, however shared follow-up care is beneficial over the long-term. In specific cases, initial dental treatment can be delayed by a few days to a subsequent appointment, allowing the dental team to book sufficient time for the treatment and for the patient and their families to prepare. Education of the patients and adults with parental responsibility is essential to manage expectations, explain likely complications and encourage attendance for long-term follow-up visits. This paper discusses the management of paediatric patients to aid the primary care practitioner in providing effective immediate and long-term care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary lower incisors are susceptible to traumatic dental injury (TDI), which may affect both primary and permanent dentitions. AIM This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of TDIs in the primary lower incisors and the factors associated with their occurrence and with the incidence of sequelae in the permanent successor teeth. DESIGN Dental files (n = 2926) from patients who attended a reference center for dental trauma in the primary teeth, from 1998 to 2020, were screened. Multilevel Poisson regression analyses were conducted between exploratory variables related to the traumatized teeth and outcome variables: occurrences of severe TDI and sequelae in the permanent successor. Prevalence ratios (PRs), relative risks (RRs), and respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. RESULTS One hundred and thirteen (3.9%) children and 208 teeth presented with TDIs in the primary lower incisors. The prevalence of severe TDI was lower in 4-year-olds (PR = 0.43; 95% CI = 0.19-0.94) than in 2-year-olds. Moreover, severe TDI was significantly associated with the occurrence of sequelae in the permanent successors (RR = 3.97; 95% CI = 1.72-9.18), when compared to not severe TDI. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of TDI in the primary lower incisors is low, with a higher prevalence in children younger than 3 years. Older children also present less frequently with severe TDI, and the risk of sequelae in permanent teeth is higher following severe TDI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This article focuses on treatments and complications in patients presenting dental trauma in primary teeth. Treatment alternatives begin with the decision of performing a procedure under clinical settings or pharmacological techniques (PC) in young children. Correct diagnosis and treatment are crucial to maximize the chances of a favorable outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS The files of 320 patients aged 0-9 years who presented to the Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry Department for dental trauma management in primary teeth were evaluated in between 2018 and 2021 for 3-year period. The following information were extracted from patients' records: injury type, affected teeth, caries condition of the teeth, treatment preferences of the dentists. Additionally postoperative complications and their management were evaluated. RESULTS While 63.1% of the traumatized teeth were caries-free, 35.8% of the teeth had caries. The most frequent dental injuries was simple crown fractures (42.9%), followed by complicated crown fractures (38.5%). Treatments were mostly done in clinical conditions (67.9%) and mostly patients attend regularly to follow-up visits (85.6%). Clinicians prefer more radical treatments under sedation or GA (92.4% extraction of injured tooth). Coronal discoloration was the most common complication, and 35.3% had pulp necrosis for longer term results. CONCLUSION Follow-up decisions made after concussion in the primary teeth might be appropriate for the patient. Examination of the complication status of primary teeth with simple crown fracture injury revealed that 59.5% of patients did not have any complications. Follow-up decisions were found to be appropriate for crowns with coloration alone. CLINICAL RELEVANCE All options should be considered to provide the best care for children after primary tooth trauma; this can be achieved by being informed about the treatment and its consequences, and if necessary, a positive prognosis can be achieved with an interdisciplinary approach.

Abstract
Due to the close proximity of the primary teeth with the developing permanent successors, several developmental alterations in the permanent successors have been reported as consequences of traumatic dental injuries to the primary dentition. When they occur at a very young age such trauma could disturb normal tooth development and cause rare anomalies, including sequestration of the permanent tooth germ and odontoma-like malformations. A literature review of case reports with a history of trauma and odontoma formation is discussed in this paper. This paper also includes a case report of a patient, who was 3-years and 5-months old, when she was seen at the University of California, Los Angeles Children's Dental Center for the first time. The grandmother reported that the child was dropped from the father's lap when she was 2 weeks old and suffered head trauma and multiple skull fractures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Dental trauma is a highly prevalent problem worldwide. The aim of this study was to describe characteristics of trauma to anterior primary teeth and its sequelae for primary and successor teeth over a 10-year period of assistance at the paediatric dental traumatology clinic in the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. MATERIALS AND METHODS The data were obtained from the dental records of children assisted from 2006 to 2016. Inclusion criteria were trauma to anterior primary teeth; aged <1 to 9 years at the time of trauma; and at least one follow-up appointment. The data concerning traumatized teeth, child's age, soft tissue injuries, types of traumatic dental injuries and sequelae in both dentitions were collected. RESULTS Of the 1230 dental records, 483 (39.3%) were eligible, consisting of 815 teeth. The mean age at the time of trauma was 37.4 months (239 males and 244 females). The most important characteristics were: tooth 51 was most affected; falls, at home, on a ceramic floor, were the main cause; gingival laceration, enamel fracture and intrusive luxation were the most frequent types of trauma; premature tooth loss of primary teeth and enamel discoloration in their successor were the most frequent sequelae; and injuries in the periodontal tissue were demonstrated as the highest risk for sequelae in successors (OR, 3.798; p< 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Most traumatic injuries occur in young children, in their home environment. Consequences for the primary teeth were more frequent compared to the permanent successor tooth. Traumatized primary teeth involving periodontal tissue have more chances to result in sequelae to their successor teeth.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this retrospective cohort study was to investigate the occurrence of sequelae in the permanent teeth after avulsion of their primary antecessors and to evaluate the factors associated with this occurrence. METHODS We screened 2922 records of patients with photographic and radiographic images who attended a reference centre for dental trauma in the primary teeth from 1998 to 2019. Among them, 240 were eligible records of children who had suffered avulsion of the primary incisors and were followed up until complete eruption of the permanent successors. Multilevel Poisson regression analyses were conducted between the explanatory variables related to children and avulsed teeth; outcome variables were occurrences of any type of sequelae in the permanent teeth, opacities, hypoplasia and malformation. Relative risks (RRs) and respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. RESULTS Among the 240 children's records, 194 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Finally, we found 266 primary avulsed teeth and 115 (43.2%) permanent teeth presenting with sequelae. Avulsion occurring when children were older than 4 years (RR = 0.48; 95% CI = 0.24-0.95) had lower risks for developing sequelae than children aged 0-2 years of age. Additionally, when avulsion occurred in the lower dental arch (RR = 1.45; 95% CI = 1.06-1.99) and when three or more teeth were affected (RR = 1.57; 95% CI = 1.02-2.41), the occurrence of sequelae in the permanent teeth was more probable than if avulsion occurred in the upper arch and affected only a single tooth. Age older than 3 years was a protective factor for the occurrence of hypoplasia and age older than 4 years protective for the occurrence of opacities. CONCLUSIONS The risk of sequelae in the permanent teeth after avulsion of their antecessor is higher when the trauma occurs in young children (<2 years) and in patients with avulsions of greater magnitude, such as when it affects the lower jaw, and more teeth are involved.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Traumatic dental injuries are among the most serious dental public health problems in children. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the dental trauma profile of primary and permanent teeth among children aged 0-15 years who presented to a university hospital. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 650 patients (1,000 primary and permanent teeth) who presented with a history of dental trauma to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Erciyes University between 2016 and 2019. Traumatized teeth were assessed according to the Andreasen classification. The following information was recorded: age, gender, teeth affected by trauma, etiologies of trauma, place and season of trauma, type of trauma, type of treatment, and time between the trauma and treatment. RESULTS In total, 650 patients (240 females, 410 males) and 1,000 incisors (212 primary teeth, 788 permanent teeth) were evaluated. The average age of the patients was 8.89 ± 3.41 years, and dental injuries were more frequent between 8 and 10 years of age. The maxillary central incisors, both primary (40.1%) and permanent (42.8%), were the most frequently affected teeth. The main cause of traumatic dental injuries was falls. Most accidents occurred at school and home. The most common type of dental injuries recorded was luxation injuries in the primary teeth (21.5%) and enamel-dentin fractures (35.9%) in the permanent teeth. Only 48 teeth were treated during the first hour after injury. CONCLUSIONS The most common type of traumatic injury affecting permanent teeth was enamel-dentin fractures, and primary teeth were luxation injury. Only 4.8% of teeth were treated within the first hour after trauma.

Abstract
Traumatic injuries to the primary dentition are critical events in dentistry not only due to the need for urgent care, but also since they have potential sequelae in the permanent dentition, with a prevalence ranging from 12% to 74%. The aim of this article was to provide an overview of the prevalence, etiology, and clinical and radiographic characteristics as well as the management of permanent teeth sequelae resulting from traumatic injuries to their deciduous predecessors. An extensive literature review was performed to reveal the current evidence on enamel discoloration with or without hypomineralization/hypoplasia, crown dilaceration, odontoma-like malformation, root anomalies, partial or complete arrest of root formation, sequestration of the permanent tooth germ, and eruption disturbances.

Abstract
Each year, millions of children are injured and live with the consequences of those injuries. Through infancy and childhood, orofacial trauma caused by falls or being struck by or against objects occurs in children. The long-term implications on the developing permanent teeth are little known, even when the oral region is the second most frequently injured body area in children under 6 years of age. During this period, the developing permanent teeth may be directly involved after trauma, causing mild to severe hypoplasia, displacement, damage to the tooth germ, or an extended range of morphofunctional disturbances. In some cases, the effects of oral and dental injuries caused by trauma appear later with the eruption of the permanent incisors when ectopic eruption, malalignments, and other developmental disturbances become visible. Therefore, long-term follow up of the patient in order to diagnose and treat associated complications becomes essential. Critical points for facing the consequences of orofacial trauma on the developing dentition are to recognize the impact of orofacial trauma in young children and the dentist's role in providing anticipatory guidance to parents and health care professionals, differentiate between mild and severe disturbances affecting the developing permanent teeth after oral injuries in early childhood, recognize the importance of follow-up controls, and recognize the importance of early referral to a pediatric dentist and orthodontist for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Abstract
Objective: This controlled study investigated the occurrence of sequelae to permanent successors (SPS) following traumatic dental injury in primary teeth (TDIp). Additionally, this study evaluated whether TDIp is a risk factor for SPS, with a focus on an association between SPS and the child's age and type of trauma. Materials and methods: The trauma group (TG) consisted of permanent teeth, whose antecessors had suffered TDIp, in a population of children with complete eruption of permanent teeth. The control group (CG) consisted of permanent teeth from the same individuals, whose antecessors had not suffered TDIp. There were 214 cases of TDIp with their respective permanent teeth. In the CG 247 permanent teeth, whose antecessor had not suffered TDIp, were included. Data concerning such teeth and when TDIp occurred (in terms of the child's age) and types of SPS were collected. The chi-square test, regression logistic with generalized estimating equations (GEE) test, and risk analyses were applied to investigate the associations. Results: Overall, 29% of the permanent teeth in the TG presented SPS. This was compared to the development disturbances in the CG, which was 7%. The TG demonstrated the highest risk for SPS (OR, 5.388; p = .0001). The discolouration of enamel (37%) was the most common type of SPS found. SPS was more prone to occur in permanent teeth whose antecessors had been intruded (39%; p < .001). TDIp when the child was 1-year old was associated with SPS (p < .001). Moreover, children who had TDIp had a 4.1 times higher risk of presenting SPS. Conclusions: TDIp is a risk factor for the development of SPS. All types of TDIp caused SPS in this research. Additionally, the younger ages at the time of the injury and intrusions were related to SPS.

Abstract
Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) such as subluxations of primary teeth can have significant consequences on their developing successors. The purpose of this report is to present a 3-year-old boy who encountered subluxation injuries to his primary incisors which subsequently had an unusual consequence on the permanent successor. On the day of the TDI, based on clinical and radiographic examinations, a diagnosis of subluxation of teeth 52, 51 and 61 was made. By age 5, the patient reported that tooth 51 had exfoliated, and consequently, tooth 11 had erupted into the oral cavity, but it was very loose. Eventually, the patient lost the crown of tooth 11 during his routine daily activities. Furthermore, radiographic examination at age 11 revealed a small root-like structure in the tooth 11 region. It is very unusual to have premature loss of a permanent incisor following subluxation to its predecessor. Therefore, the present case serves as a good example to emphasize that even minor TDIs are of considerable importance as they may lead to unexpected consequences.
