Abstract
BACKGROUND Data regarding the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) during the post-acute phase of COVID-19 are lacking. OBJECTIVE We assess the risk of incident AF in COVID-19 recovered patients by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available data. METHODS Following the PRIMSA guidelines, we searched Medline and Scopus to locate all articles published up to December 10, 2023, reporting the risk of AF in patients recovered from COVID-19 infection compared to non-infected patients who developed the arrhythmia over the same follow-up period. AF risk was evaluated using the Mantel-Haenszel random effects models with Hazard ratio (HR) as the effect measure with 95% confidence interval (CI) while heterogeneity was assessed using Higgins I2 statistic. RESULTS Overall, 19,478,173 patients (mean age 56.5 years, 63.0% males), enrolled in five observational studies, were included into the analysis. Among them, 5,692,510 recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Over a mean follow-up of 14.5±3.2 months, a random effect model revealed a pooled incidence of new onset AF 2.6% of cases (95% CI: 1.8-6.18%). Recovered COVID-19 patients presented a higher risk of incident AF (HR: 1.57, 95% CI: 1.24-1.99, p<0.0001, I2=77.9%) compared to non-infected patients over the same follow-up period. Sensitivity analyses confirmed yielded results. A multivariable meta-regression, including age, male sex, history of hypertension, coronary artery disease and length of follow-up was able to explain a significant part of heterogeneity (R2: 54.3%, p=0.01). CONCLUSIONS Recovered COVID-19 patients have a higher risk of AF events compared to subjects from the general population.

Abstract
Background Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global public health challenge, causing substantial mortality and morbidity. While TB treatment has made significant progress, it often leaves survivors with post-TB sequelae, resulting in long-term health issues. Current healthcare systems and guidelines lack comprehensive strategies to address post-TB sequelae, primarily due to insufficient evidence. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify effective interventions for preventing post-TB sequelae. Methods A systematic search was conducted across four databases including PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception to September 22, 2023. Eligible studies reported interventions designed to prevent post-TB sequelae were included. A random effect meta-analysis was conducted where applicable, and heterogeneity between studies was evaluated visually using forest plots and quantitatively using an index of heterogeneity (I2). This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023464392). Findings From the 2525 unique records screened, 25 studies involving 10,592 participants were included. Different interventions were evaluated for different outcomes. However, only a few interventions were effective in preventing post-TB sequelae. Rehabilitation programs significantly improved lung function (Hedges's g = 0.21; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.03, 0.39) and prevented neurological sequelae (relative risk (RR) = 0.10; 95% CI: 0.02, 0.42). Comprehensive interventions and cognitive-behavioural therapy significantly reduced the risk of mental health disorders among TB survivors (Hedges's g = -1.89; 95% CI: -3.77, -0.01). In contrast, interventions targeting post-TB liver sequelae, such as vitamin A and vitamin D supplementation and hepatoprotective agents, did not show significant reductions in sequelae (RR = 0.90; 95% CI: 0.52, 1.57). Moreover, adjunctive therapies did not show a significant effect in preventing post-TB neurological sequelae (RR = 0.62, 95% CI: 0.31, 1.24). Interpretation Rehabilitation programs prevented post-TB lung, neurologic and mental health sequelae, while adjuvant therapies and other interventions require further investigation. Abstract
Although pediatric post-intensive care syndrome is frequent and impacts the child's quality of life in various aspects, there are currently no guidelines regarding post-pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) follow-up. The aim of this study was to describe post-PICU follow-up in France. Among the 37 French PICUs, only 67 % had a consultation service, mostly performed by pediatric intensivists (95 %). Post-intensive care evaluation was the main objective for 46 % of these centers, whereas others focused on specific patient populations. Post-intensive care follow-up is highly heterogeneous and developing such consultation services appears to be a main challenge for PICU teams.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 respiratory infection is still under study today, mainly because of its long-term effects. This study aims to analyse health status and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in survivors of coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) who have developed pulmonary sequelae. Prospective observational study of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia between February and May 2020. Reviews were conducted at 3 and 12 months after hospital discharge. HRQoL was assessed by administration of the SF-36 questionnaire and data related to medical records and physical examination were also collected. In addition, chest X-ray, computed tomography and pulmonary function test were included as additional tests. 305 patients were admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia of which 130 (42.6%) completed follow-up. The mean age of the enrolled group was 55.9 ± 15.9 years. The most prevalent persistent symptoms were dyspnea (37.3%) and asthenia (36.9%). Pulmonary sequelae were detected in 20.8% of participants. The most frequent alteration was ground ground glass opacities (GGO) (88.9%), with mild extension. Fibrotic changes were found in only 2% of cases. When comparing the two groups, at 3 and 12 months of evolution, lower scores in the vitality (VT) and mental health (MH) domains were found only in the group without sequelae. Days of hospitalisation and Charlson index acted as influential factors on HRQoL. Minimal or mild pulmonary sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 do not cause further deterioration of HRQoL. Repeated medical care and pulmonary rehabilitation are effective tools to improve HRQoL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cases of mpox have been reported worldwide since May 2022. Limited knowledge exists regarding the long-term course of this disease. To assess sequelae in terms of scarring and quality of life (QoL) in mpox patients 4-6 months after initial infection. METHODS Prospective observational study on clinical characteristics and symptoms of patients with polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-confirmed mpox, including both outpatients and inpatients. Follow-up visits were conducted at 4-6 months, assessing the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and sexual impairment, using a numeric rating scale (NRS) from 0 to 10. RESULTS Forty-three patients, age range 19-64 years, 41 men (all identifying as MSM) and 2 women, were included. Upon diagnosis, skin or mucosal lesions were present in 93.0% of cases, with 73.3% reporting pain (median intensity: 8, Q1-Q3: 6-10). Anal involvement resulted in a significantly higher frequency of pain than genital lesions (RR: 3.60, 95%-CI: 1.48-8.74). Inpatient treatment due to pain, superinfection, abscess or other indications was required in 20 patients (46.5%). After 4-6 months, most patients did not have significant limitations, scars or pain. However, compared to patients without such complications, patients with superinfection or abscess during the acute phase had significantly more extensive scar formation (median PSAS: 24.0 vs. 11.0, p = 0.039) and experienced a significantly greater impairment of their QoL (median DLQI: 2.0 vs. 0.0, p = 0.036) and sexuality (median NRS: 5.0 vs. 0.0, p = 0.017). CONCLUSION We observed a wide range of clinical mpox manifestations, with some patients experiencing significant pain and requiring hospitalization. After 4-6 months, most patients recovered without significant sequelae, but those with abscesses or superinfections during the initial infection experienced a significant reduction in QoL and sexuality. Adequate treatment, including antiseptic and antibiotic therapy during the acute phase, may help prevent such complications, and hence, improve long-term outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tuberculous meningitis (TBM), the most serious form of tuberculosis, results in high mortality and long-term disability in low-resource countries. We investigated temporal trends in mortality and sequelae in a high-resource low-incidence country. METHODS We performed a retrospective cohort study of all adult patients with TBM at two third-level teaching hospitals in Barcelona (Spain), between January 1990 and December 2017, assessing temporal trends in mortality and sequelae after 12 months over four consecutive 7-year time windows. Rates observed across the four periods were adjusted for covariates. RESULTS Of the 135 cases included, all but one started tuberculosis (TB) treatment and 120 (89.6%) received rifampicin, isoniazid, and pyrazinamide, with or without ethambutol. The probability of being alive at month 12 was 81.8%, with no differences among the four periods: in comparison with the 1990-1996 period, the adjusted hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were 2.55 (0.71-9.25), 0.70 (0.13-3.85), and 1.29 (0.28-5.91) for the 1997-2003, 2004-2010, and 2011-2017 periods respectively. Sequelae were present in 28.3% at month 12, with no differences across the four periods in the adjusted analysis: in comparison with the 1990-1996 period, the odds ratios and 95% CIs were 0.80 (0.09-7.22); 1.94 (0.21-17.96), and 2.42 (0.25-23.07) for the 1997-2003, 2004-2010, and 2011-2017 periods respectively. CONCLUSION This study shows that TBM still causes high mortality and disability even in a high-resource low-incidence TB setting and without improvement over time.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To summarise the published research evidence on the epidemiology of otitis media, including the risk factors and sequelae associated with this condition. DATA SOURCES Medline (PubMed), Embase, and the Cochrane Library covering the period from 2019 to June 1st, 2023. REVIEW METHODS We conducted a broad search strategy using otitis [Medical Subject Heading] combined with text words to identify relevant articles on the prevalence, incidence, risk factors, complications, and sequelae for acute otitis media, otitis media with effusion, and chronic suppurative otitis media. At least one review author independently screened titles and abstracts of the retrieved records for each condition to determine whether the research study was eligible for inclusion. Any discrepancies were resolved by reviewing the full text followed by discussion with a second review author. Studies with more than 100 participants were prioritised. RESULTS Over 2,000 papers on otitis media (OM) have been published since 2019. Our review has highlighted around 100 of these publications. While the amount of otitis media research on the Medline database published each year has not increased, there has been an increase in epidemiological studies using routinely collected data and systematic review methodology. Most of the large incidence studies have addressed acute otitis media (AOM) in children. Several studies have described a decrease in incidence of AOM after the introduction of conjugate PCV vaccines. Similarly, a decrease was noted when rates of coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) were high and there were major public health efforts to reduce the spread of infection. There have been new studies on OM in adults and OM prevalence in a broader range of countries and population subgroups. CONCLUSION Overall, the rates of severe and/or suppurative OM appeared to be decreasing. However, there is substantial heterogeneity between populations. While better use of available data is informative, it can be difficult to predict rates of severe disease without accurate examination findings. Most memorably, the COVID-19 pandemic had an enormous impact on the research and clinical services for otitis media for most of the period under review. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE The use of routinely collected data for epidemiological studies will lead to greater variability in the definitions and diagnostic criteria used. The impact of new vaccines will continue to be important. Some of the lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic concerning behaviours that reduce spread of respiratory viruses can hopefully be used to decrease the burden of otitis media in the future. There are still many countries in the world where the burden of otitis media is not well described. In countries where otitis media has been studied over many years, new potential risk factors continue to be identified. In addition, a better understanding of the disease in specific subgroups has been achieved.

Abstract
Juvenile scleroderma, often referred to as juvenile localized scleroderma or "morphea", is a rare inflammatory disease of the skin and skin-related structures, accompanied by local sclerosis and tissue fibrosis. Depending on the clinical manifestation, four different subtypes can be defined: limited, generalized, linear, and mixed. To prevent possible sequelae of the disease, the diagnosis should be made as early as possible and therapy should be initiated at specialized centers in multiprofessional pediatric and dermatologic collaboration. In this review, we present the main clinical, laboratory, and therapeutic characteristics of juvenile localized scleroderma and summarize recommendations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The first-line treatment of lymphatic malformations (LMs) is pharmacological or interventional; however, surgery is still necessary in selected cases. Our aim was to identify factors associated with the occurrence of permanent postoperative complications. METHODS This was a case series study of children operated on for LMs between 2001 and 2021 and followed-up in our institution. Patients who presented sequelae derived from surgical treatment (cases) and those who did not (controls) were compared. RESULTS We included 112 children who underwent surgery for LMs in different centers. Forty-nine cases and 63 controls were included (58% male), with a mean age of 34 months. Patients younger than 1 year presented more complications than older children, 59% (n = 29/49) vs 41% (n = 24/49), respectively (P = .02). LMs were in the cervicofacial region in seven patients in the control group compared with 30 of the cases (P ≤ .001), with microcystic malformations the most associated with sequelae (n = 11/15; P = .019). Concerning permanent complications, 88% were neurological (n = 43/49), mainly peripheral facial palsy (n = 17). There was greater postoperative residual disease in controls compared with cases (65% vs 14%, respectively; P ≤ .0001). However, following a second procedure in the control group, there was no significant difference in long-term cure rates (P = .38). CONCLUSIONS The risk of sequelae following surgery for LM increases significantly in patients younger than 12 months in cervicofacial and microcystic malformations. Because non-radical resections are associated with fewer complications and an optimal long-term cure rate, we consider that aggressive surgical approaches should be avoided if the absence of sequelae is not guaranteed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION SARS-CoV-2 infection causes severe endothelial damage, an essential step for cardiovascular complications. Endothelial-colony forming cells (ECFCs) act as a biomarker of vascular damage but their role in SARS-CoV-2 remain unclear. The aim of this study was to assess whether the number of ECFCs and angiogenic biomarkers remained altered after 6 and 12-months post-infection and whether this imbalance correlated with the presence of long-COVID syndrome and other biological parameters measured. METHODS Seventy-two patients were recruited at different time-points after overcoming COVID-19 and thirty-one healthy controls. All subjects were matched for age, gender, BMI, and comorbidities. ECFCs were obtained from peripheral blood and cultured with specific conditions. RESULTS The results confirm the presence of a long-term sequela in post-COVID-19 patients, with an abnormal increase in ECFC production compared to controls (82.8% vs. 48.4%, P < 0.01) that is maintained up to 6-months (87.0% vs. 48.4%, P < 0.01) and 12-months post-infection (85.0% vs. 48.4%, P < 0.01). Interestingly, post-COVID-19 patients showed a significant downregulation of angiogenesis-related proteins compared to controls indicating a clear endothelial injury. Troponin, NT-proBNP and ferritin levels, markers of cardiovascular risk and inflammation, remained elevated up to 12-months post-infection. Patients with lower numbers of ECFC exhibited higher levels of inflammatory markers, such as ferritin, suggesting that ECFCs may play a protective role. Additionally, long-COVID syndrome was associated with higher ferritin levels and with female gender. CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight the presence of vascular sequela that last up to 6- and 12-months post-infection and point out the need for preventive measures and patient follow-up.

Abstract
Background Post-acute sequelae after SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) remains a concerning long-term complication of COVID-19. Here, we aimed to characterize the epidemiology of PASC in Mexico during 2022 and identify potential associations of covariates with PASC prevalence using nationally representative data. Methods We analyzed data from the 2022 Mexican National Health and Nutrition Survey (ENSANUT) from 24,434 participants, representing 85,521,661 adults ≥20 years. PASC was defined using both the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) definition and a PASC score ≥12. Estimates of PASC prevalence were stratified by age, sex, rural vs. urban setting, social lag quartiles, number of reinfections, vaccination status and periods of predominance of SARS-CoV-2 circulating variants. Determinants of PASC were assessed using log-binomial regression models adjusted by survey weights. Findings Persistent symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection were reported by 12.44% (95% CI 11.89-12.99) of adults ≥20 years in Mexico in 2022. The most common persistent symptoms were fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, headache, cough, loss of smell or taste, fever, post-exertional malaise, brain fog, anxiety, and chest pain. PASC was present in 21.21% (95% CI 19.74-22.68) of subjects with previously diagnosed COVID-19. Over 28.6% of patients with PASC reported symptoms persistence ≥6 months and 14.05% reported incapacitating symptoms. Higher PASC prevalence was associated with SARS-CoV-2 reinfections, depressive symptoms and living in states with high social lag. PASC prevalence, particularly its more severe forms, decreased with COVID-19 vaccination and for infections during periods of Omicron variant predominance. Interpretation PASC remains a significant public health burden in Mexico as the COVID-19 pandemic transitions into endemic. Promoting SARS-CoV-2 reinfection prevention and booster vaccination may be useful in reducing PASC burden. Funding This research was supported by Instituto Nacional de Geriatría in Mexico.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Even though the incidence of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in children (MIS-C) is decreasing cases are still reported across the world. Studying the consequences of MIS-C enhances our understanding of the disease's prognosis. The objective of this study was to assess short- and medium-term clinical outcomes of MIS-C. METHODS Prospective observational cohort study at Municipal Children's Hospital Morozovskaya, Moscow, Russia. All children meeting the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), or the World Health Organization (WHO) MIS-C case definition admitted to the hospital between 17 May and 26 October 2020 were included in the study. All survivors were invited to attend a clinic at 2 and 6 weeks after hospital discharge. RESULTS 37 children median age 6 years (interquartile range [IQR] 3.3-9.4), 59.5% (22/37) boys were included in the study. 48.6% (18/37) of patients required ICU care. One child died. All children had increased levels of systemic inflammatory markers during the acute event. Echocardiographic investigations identified abnormal findings in 35.1% (13/37) of children. 5.6% (2/36) of children were presenting with any symptoms six weeks after discharge. By six weeks the inflammatory markers were within the reference norms in all children. The echocardiographic evaluation showed persistent coronary dilatation in one child. CONCLUSIONS Despite the severity of their acute MIS-C, the majority of children in our cohort fully recovered with none having elevated laboratory markers of inflammation at 6 weeks, few (< 10%) reporting persistent symptoms at 6 weeks, and only one with persistent echocardiographic abnormalities.

Abstract
Objective Clinical characteristics and outcome in COVID-19 with brucellosis patients has not been well demonstrated, we tried to analyze clinical outcome in local and literature COVID-19 cases with brucellosis before and after recovery. Methods We retrospectively collected hospitalization data of comorbid patients and prospectively followed up after discharge in Heilongjiang Infectious Disease Hospital from January 15, 2020 to April 29, 2022. Demographics, epidemiological, clinical symptoms, radiological and laboratory data, treatment medicines and outcomes, and follow up were analyzed, and findings of a systematic review were demonstrated. Results A total of four COVID-19 with brucellosis patients were included. One patient had active brucellosis before covid and 3 patients had nonactive brucellosis before brucellosis. The median age was 54.5 years, and all were males (100.0%). Two cases (50.0%) were moderate, and one was mild and asymptomatic, respectively. Three cases (75.0%) had at least one comorbidity (brucellosis excluded). All 4 patients were found in COVID-19 nucleic acid screening. Case C and D had only headache and fever on admission, respectively. Four cases were treated with Traditional Chinese medicine, western medicines for three cases, no adverse reaction occurred during hospitalization. All patients were cured and discharged. Moreover, one case (25.0%) had still active brucellosis without re-positive COVID-19, and other three cases (75.0%) have no symptoms of discomfort except one case fell fatigue and anxious during the follow-up period after recovery. Conducting the literature review, two similar cases have been reported in two case reports, and were both recovered, whereas, no data of follow up after recovery. Conclusion These cases indicate that COVID-19 patients with brucellosis had favorable outcome before and after recovery. More clinical studies should be conducted to confirm our findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND 1.2 million children under 15 years are estimated to have developed tuberculosis (TB) in 2021. 85% of paediatric patients achieve successful treatment outcomes if treated for the first episode of TB. However, despite so-called successful treatment, TB leaves many survivors with permanently destroyed or damaged lungs. Data from prospective paediatric cohorts to establish the burden and evolution of post-TB lung disease (PTLD) are still absent. The Childhood TB Sequel study aims to describe respiratory consequences associated with pulmonary TB in Gambian children, describe the evolution of these sequelae, and determine associated epidemiological risk factors. METHODS We aim to recruit up to 80 subjects aged 19 years and below who have recently completed treatment for pulmonary TB. Recruitment started in April 2022 and is expected to continue until June 2024. Clinical assessment, chest X-ray, and comprehensive lung function assessment are carried out at treatment completion and again six and 12 months later. DISCUSSION The Childhood TB Sequel study will address existing research gaps to enhance our knowledge and understanding of the burden of PTLD in Gambian children. The study will also contribute to formulating a plan for post-TB evaluation and long-term follow-up strategies. TRIAL REGISTRATION ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT05325125, April 13, 2022.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people worldwide, and while the mortality rate remains the primary concern, it is becoming increasingly apparent that many COVID-19 survivors experience long-term sequelae, representing a major concern for both themselves and healthcare providers. Comparing long-term sequelae following COVID-19 to those of other respiratory viruses such as influenza, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-1 is an essential step toward understanding the extent and impact of these sequelae. A literature search was carried out using the PubMed. database. Search-terms included "persistent", "long-term", "chronic", and MeSH-terms for SARS-CoV-1, MERS-CoV and Influenza. Only English-language articles were selected. Articles were screened by title/abstract and full-text readings. Key points for comparison were persistent symptoms > 4 weeks, virus type, study design, population size, admission status, methods, and findings. Thirty-one articles were included: 19 on SARS-CoV-1, 10 on influenza, and 2 on MERS-CoV-survivors. Damage to the respiratory system was the main long-term manifestation after the acute phase of infection. Quality of life-related and psychological sequelae were the second and third most widely reported symptoms, respectively. Consistent with long-term sequelae from COVID-19, persisting cardiovascular, neurological, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal impairments were also reported. In summary, the long-term sequelae following COVID-19 are a significant concern, and while long-term sequelae following influenza, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-1 have also been reported, their prevalence and severity are less clear. It is essential to continue to study and monitor the long-term effects of all respiratory viruses so as to improve our understanding and develop strategies for prevention and treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Despite being vaccine-preventable, tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) continues to cause considerable morbidity in Germany. Limited insight into potentially debilitating consequences of TBE may partially underly low (~ 20%) TBE vaccine uptake. We aimed to systematically assess TBE sequelae and other consequences. METHODS Routinely notified TBE patients from 2018 to 2020 from Southern Germany were invited to telephone interviews acutely and again after 18 months. Duration of acute symptoms was prospectively assessed. Recovery was defined as score 0 on the modified RANKIN scale. Determinants of time to recovery were analysed with cox regression, adjusted for covariates identified using directed acyclic graphs, yielding hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS Of 558 cases, 523 (93.7%) completed follow-up. Full recovery was reported by 67.3% (children: 94.9%, adults: 63.8%). Sequelae included fatigue (17.0%), weakness (13.4%), concentration deficit (13.0%), and impaired balance (12.0%). Compared with 18-39-year-olds, recovery rates were 44% lower in ≥ 50-year-olds (HR: 0.56, 95%CI 0.42-0.75) and 79% higher in children (HR: 1.79, 95%CI 1.25-2.56). The recovery rate was 64% lower after severe TBE (compared to mild; HR: 0.36, 95%CI 0.25-0.52) and 22% lower with comorbidities (HR: 0.78, 95%CI 0.62-0.99). Substantial health-care use was reported (90.1% hospitalisation, 39.8% rehabilitation). Of employed cases, 88.4% required sick leave; 10.3% planned/reported premature retirement due to sequelae. CONCLUSION Half the adult and 5% of paediatric patients reported persisting sequelae after 18 months. Improved prevention could alleviate both individual (morbidity) and societal TBE burden (health-care costs, productivity losses). Insights into sequelae can help guide at-risk populations towards tick-avoidant strategies and encourage TBE vaccination.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this retrospective study was to examine the clinical outcomes and complications of proximal femur reconstruction (PFR) combined with total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with high hip dislocation secondary to septic arthritis (SA). METHODS Between September 2016 to September 2021, we performed a series of 15 consecutive PFR combined with THA on patients with high dislocation of the hip secondary to SA, of these,12 hips were reviewed retrospectively, with a mean follow-up of 2.5 years (range, 1.5-6 years). The mean age of the patients at the time of surgery was 52 years (range, 40-70 years). RESULTS All patients were followed up. At 1-year postoperative follow-up, the median HHS increased from 32.50 preoperatively to 79.50 postoperatively. The median VAS decreased from 7 before surgery to 2 at 1 year after surgery. The median LLD reduced from 45 mm preoperatively to 8 mm at 1 year after surgery. The mean operative time 125 ± 15 min (range 103-195 min). Mean estimated blood loss was500 ± 105ml (range 450-870 ml). Mean hospital days 9.5 days (range 6-15 days). Two patients developed nerve injuries that improved after nutritional nerve treatment. One patient had recurrent postoperative dislocation and underwent reoperation, with no recurrence dislocation during the follow-up. There were no cases of prosthesis loosening during the follow-up period. One patient developed acute postoperative periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) that was treated with Debridement, Antibiotics and Implant Retention (DAIR) plus anti-infective therapy, with no recurrence during 2 years of follow-up. CONCLUSION This study indicates PFR combined with THA shows promise as a technique to manage high hip dislocation secondary to SA, improving early outcomes related to pain, function, and limb length discrepancy.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has continued for more than 3 years, placing a huge burden on society worldwide. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an end to COVID-19 as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), it is still considered a global threat. Previously, there has been a long debate as to whether the COVID-19 emergency will eventually end or transform into a more common infectious disease from a PHEIC, and how should countries respond to similar pandemics in the future more time-efficiently and cost-effectively. We reviewed the past, middle and current situation of COVID-19 based on bibliometric analysis and epidemiological data. Thereby, the necessity is indicated to change the paradigm from reactive healthcare services to predictive, preventive and personalised medicine (PPPM) approach, in order to effectively protect populations against COVID-19 and any future pandemics. Corresponding measures are detailed in the article including the involvement of multi-professional expertise, application of artificial intelligence, rapid diagnostics and patient stratification, and effective protection, amongst other to be considered by advanced health policy.

Abstract
The overall societal impact of poliomyelitis worldwide is decreasing, rendering it almost absent in most developed countries. However, even there, patients are still seen who contracted it in endemic areas or developed polio before vaccinations became widely available. Post-polio syndrome (PPS) causes skeletal and neurological changes that increase affected individuals' likelihood of fractures, including fractures requiring complex surgical treatment. The existence of previous internal fixation creates a particularly difficult challenge. We present here the surgical management of four post-polio patients who suffered non-prosthetic implant-related femoral fractures. Injuries occurred at earlier ages than implant-related fractures in non-polio patients and three of the four fractures occurred around plates, a phenomenon which is usually rare. The treatment of implant-related fractures in patients with post-polio syndrome poses significant technical challenges, often creating problematic functional sequelae for patients and high costs for healthcare systems.

Abstract
PURPOSE Survivors of cancer during young adulthood face multiple psychosocial challenges following treatment. This study explores psychosocial distress and unmet needs among young adult survivors treated of hematological malignancies. METHODS A total of 85 young adults aged between 18 and 39 years at time of diagnosis, were invited to join the survey after the completion of treatment with curative intent. Sociodemographic data and the need for advice were gathered with a self-report questionnaire. A set of standardized questionnaires for quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30), psychosocial stressors (PHQ-S), fear of progression (PA-F-KF), cancer-related fatigue (EORTC QLQ-FA12), and symptoms of anxiety (GAD-7) or depression (PHQ-9) was employed. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis were conducted. RESULTS Forty-seven young adult cancer survivors responded. A quarter of patients (26%) reported depressive symptoms, 15% suffered from anxiety, 36% from fear of progression, and 21% reported increased psychosocial stressors. They had a lower QoL than the general population and reported poorer outcomes on all single-item and multi-symptom scales. Employment was significantly associated with lower levels of psychosocial distress, anxiety, fatigue, and better QoL. CONCLUSION Young adult cancer survivors exhibited a high disposition for psychosocial distress. They reported excessive demands in everyday life and resumption of work. However, a longitudinal study of young adult cancer survivors is needed to confirm the results of this pilot study. In future, psycho-oncological and social support need to become an inherent part of the aftercare of survivors of young adult cancer survivors.

Abstract
Rationale: The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic poses a significant threat to human health. After SARS-CoV-2 infection, major clinical concerns are organ damage and possible sequelae. Methods: In this study, we analyzed serum multi-omics data based on population-level, including healthy cohort, non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 covered different severity cohorts. We applied the pseudo-SpatioTemporal Consistency Alignment (pST-CA) strategy to correct for individualized disease course differences, and developed pseudo-deterioration timeline model and pseudo-recovery timeline model based on the "severe index" and "course index". Further, we comprehensively analyzed and discussed the dynamic damage signaling in COVID-19 deterioration and/or recovery, as well as the potential risk of sequelae. Results: The deterioration and course models based on the pST-CA strategy can effectively map the activation of blood molecular signals on cellular, pathway, functional and disease phenotypes in COVID-19 deterioration and throughout the disease course. The models revealed the neurological, cardiovascular, and hepatic toxicity present in SARS-CoV-2. The abundance of differentially expressed proteins and the activity of upstream regulators were comprehensively analyzed and evaluated to predict possible target drugs for SARS-CoV-2. On molecular docking simulation analysis, it was further demonstrated that blocking CEACAM1 is a potential therapeutic target for SARS-CoV-2. Conclusions: Clinically, the risk of organ failure and death in COVID-19 patients rises with increasing number of infections. Individualized sequelae prediction for patients and assessment of individualized intervenable targets and available drugs in combination with the upstream regulator analysis results are of great clinical value.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite significant advances in the quality and delivery of specialized stroke care, there still persist remarkable spatial variations in emergency medical services (EMS) transport delays, stroke incidence, and its outcomes. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the possible geographical variations of in-hospital stroke mortality and to identify its associated factors. METHODS This historical cohort study included suspected stroke cases transferred to Ghaem Hospital of Mashhad by the EMS from March 2018 to March 2019. Using emergency mission IDs, the pre-hospital emergency data were integrated with the patient medical records in the hospital. We used the Bayesian approach for estimating the model parameters. RESULTS Out of 301 patients (142 (47.2%) females vs. 159 (52.8%) males) with a final diagnosis of stroke, 61 (20.3%) cases had in-hospital mortality. Results from Bayesian spatial log-logistic proportional odds (PO) model showed that age (PO=1.07), access rate to EMS (PO=0.78), arrival time (evening shift vs. day shift, PO=0.09), and sequelae variables (PO=9.20) had a significant association with the odds of in-hospital stroke mortality (P<0.05). Furthermore, the odds of in-hospital stroke mortality were higher in central urban areas compared to suburban areas. CONCLUSION Marked regional variations were found in the odds of in-hospital stroke mortality in Mashhad. There was a direct association between age and odds of in-hospital stroke mortality. Hence, the prognosis of in-hospital stroke mortality could be improved by better control of hypertension, prevention of the occurrence of sequelae, increasing the access rate to EMS, and optimizing shift work schedule.

Abstract
"Long COVID" is a sustained symptom following infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). According to recent statistics, at least 65 million people have long COVID, which poses a long-term threat to human health. The pathogenic mechanisms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are complex and affect multiple organs and systems. Common symptoms include palpitations, breathing difficulties, attention and memory deficits, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. It is difficult to achieve satisfactory treatment effect with a single intervention. Currently, treatment strategies for long COVID are still in the exploratory stage, and there is an urgent need to find appropriate and effective methods for long COVID treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine is effective in treating the various phases of COVID-19. Previous studies have shown that acupoint stimulation therapy is effective in improving palpitations, dyspnea, cognitive impairment, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms in patients. According to previous studies, acupoint stimulation may improve various symptoms related to long COVID. This paper discusses the potential application value of acupoint stimulation in the treatment of long COVID-related symptoms, based on the common sequelae of various systems involved in long COVID, and the effect of acupoint stimulation in the treatment of similar symptoms and diseases in recent years.

Abstract
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a hemorrhagic fever syndrome that is endemic to East Asia. Here, we describe a case of rhabdomyolysis, thought to have been caused by pemafibrate (which was prescribed for hyperlipidemia) or bacterial infection, in a patient who had experienced SFTS-induced rhabdomyolysis 4 years ago. This case suggests that SFTS causes muscle degeneration and can lead to recurrent rhabdomyolysis as a long-term complication.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Exertional heat stroke (EHS) is a medical emergency, occurring when the body generates more heat than it can dissipate, and frequently associated with exertional rhabdomyolysis (ERM). In the present study we aimed to (I) identify clinical features and risk factors, (II) describe current prehospital management, (III) investigate long-term outcomes including the impact on mental health, and review the guidance received during restarting activities. We hope that our approach will improve individual and organizational heat illness preparedness, and improve follow-up care. METHODS We performed a prospective online survey and retrospective medical record review among athletes and military personnel with an episode of EHS/ERM in the Netherlands between 2010 and 2020. We evaluated prehospital management, risk factors, clinical features and long-term outcomes at 6 and 12 months after the event, including mental health symptoms. Furthermore, we investigated what guidance participants received during follow-up, and assessed the patients' perspective on these outcomes. RESULTS Sixty participants were included, 42 male (70%) and 18 female (30%), of which 47 presented with EHS (78%) and 13 with ERM (22%). Prehospital management was inconsistent and in the majority of participants not conducted according to available guidelines. Self-reported risk factors included not feeling well-acclimatized to environmental heat (55%) and peer pressure (28%). Self-reported long-term symptoms included muscle symptoms at rest (26%) or during exercise (28%), and neurological sequelae (11%). Validated questionnaires (CIS, HADS and SF-36) were indicative of severe fatigue (30%) or mood/anxiety disorders (11%). Moreover, 90% expressed a lack of follow-up care and that a more frequent and intensive follow-up would have been beneficial for their recovery process. CONCLUSION Our findings indicate major inconsistencies in the management of patients with EHS/ERM, emphasizing the compelling need for implementing standardized protocols. Based on the results of long-term outcome measures, we recommend to counsel and evaluate every patient not only immediately after the event, but also in the long-term.

Abstract
In late 2010, an outbreak of Cryptosporidium hominis affected 27,000 inhabitants (45%) of Östersund, Sweden. Previous research shows that abdomen and joint symptoms commonly persist up to 5 years post-infection. It is unknown whether Cryptosporidium is associated with sequelae for a longer duration, how persisting symptoms present over time, and whether sequelae are associated with prolonged infection. In this prospective cohort study, a randomly selected cohort in Östersund was surveyed about cryptosporidiosis symptoms in 2011 (response rate 69.2%). A case was defined as a respondent reporting new diarrhoea episodes during the outbreak. Follow-up questionnaires were sent after 5 and 10 years. Logistic regressions were used to examine associations between case status and symptoms reported after 10 years, with results presented as adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence intervals. Consistency of symptoms and associations with case status and number of days with symptoms during outbreak were analysed using X2 and Mann-Whitney U tests. The response rate after 10 years was 74% (n = 538). Case status was associated with reporting symptoms, with aOR of ~3 for abdominal symptoms and ~2 for joint symptoms. Cases were more likely to report consistent symptoms. Cases with consistent abdominal symptoms at follow-up reported 9.2 days with symptoms during the outbreak (SD 8.1), compared to 6.6 days (SD 6.1) for cases reporting varying or no symptoms (p = 0.003). We conclude that cryptosporidiosis was associated with an up to threefold risk for reporting symptoms 10 years post-infection. Consistent symptoms were associated with prolonged infection.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Representative information on disease course and outcome of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is important because of the shift in meningococcal epidemiology that recently occurred in the Netherlands. With this study, we update earlier research on the burden of IMD in the Netherlands. MATERIAL AND METHODS We performed a retrospective study using Dutch surveillance data on IMD from July 2011 to May 2020. Clinical information was collected from hospital records. The effect of age, serogroup, and clinical manifestation on disease course and outcome was assessed in multivariable logistic regression analyses. Grouping of infecting isolates was performed by Ouchterlony gel diffusion or by PCR. RESULTS Clinical information was collected for 278 IMD cases of which the majority had IMD-B (55%), followed by IMD-W (27%), IMD-Y (13%), and IMD-C (5%). Most patients presented with meningitis (32%) or sepsis (30%). Hospitalisation for ≥ 10 days was most frequent among 24-64 year olds (67%). ICU admission was highest among 24-64 year olds (60%), and in case of sepsis (70%), or sepsis plus meningitis (61%). Sequelae at discharge was lower for patients with mild meningococcaemia compared to patients with sepsis plus meningitis (OR: 0.19, 95% CI: 0.07-0.51). The overall case fatality rate was 7%, and was highest for IMD-Y (14%) and IMD-W (13%) patients. CONCLUSIONS IMD remains a disease with high morbidity and mortality. Sepsis (with or without meningitis) is associated with a more severe disease course and outcome compared to other clinical manifestations. The high disease burden can be partly prevented by meningococcal vaccination.

Abstract
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are serious and rare diseases, most often drug-induced, and their incidence has been estimated at 6 cases/million/year in France. SJS and TEN belong to the same spectrum of disease known as epidermal necrolysis (EN). They are characterized by more or less extensive epidermal detachment, associated with mucous membrane involvement, and may be complicated during the acute phase by fatal multiorgan failure. SJS and TEN can lead to severe ophthalmologic sequelae. There are no recommendations for ocular management during the chronic phase. We conducted a national audit of current practice in the 11 sites of the French reference center for toxic bullous dermatoses and a review of the literature to establish therapeutic consensus guidelines. Ophthalmologists and dermatologists from the French reference center for epidermal necrolysis were asked to complete a questionnaire on management practices in the chronic phase of SJS/TEN. The survey focused on the presence of a referent ophthalmologist at the center, the use of local treatments (artificial tears, corticosteroid eye drops, antibiotic-corticosteroids, antiseptics, vitamin A ointment (VA), cyclosporine, tacrolimus), the management of trichiatic eyelashes, meibomian dysfunction, symblepharons, and corneal neovascularization, as well as the contactologic solutions implemented. Eleven ophthalmologists and 9 dermatologists from 9 of the 11 centers responded to the questionnaire. Based on questionnaire results, 10/11 ophthalmologists systematically prescribed preservative-free artificial tears, and 11/11 administered VA. Antiseptic or antibiotic eye drops or antibiotic-corticosteroid eye drops were recommended as needed by 8/11 and 7/11 ophthalmologists, respectively. In case of chronic inflammation, topical cyclosporine was consistently proposed by 11/11 ophthalmologists. The removal of trichiatic eyelashes was mainly performed by 10/11 ophthalmologists. Patients were referred to a reference center for fitting of scleral lenses (10/10,100%). Based on this practice audit and literature review, we propose an evaluation form to facilitate ophthalmic data collection in the chronic phase of EN and we also propose an algorithm for the ophthalmologic management of ocular sequelae.

Abstract
Streptococcus pneumoniae (Spn) is a major public health problem, as it is a main cause of otitis media, community-acquired pneumonia, bacteremia, sepsis, and meningitis. Acute episodes of pneumococcal disease have been demonstrated to cause organ damage with lingering negative consequences. Cytotoxic products released by the bacterium, biomechanical and physiological stress resulting from infection, and the corresponding inflammatory response together contribute to organ damage accrued during infection. The collective result of this damage can be acutely life-threatening, but among survivors, it also contributes to the long-lasting sequelae of pneumococcal disease. These include the development of new morbidities or exacerbation of pre-existing conditions such as COPD, heart disease, and neurological impairments. Currently, pneumonia is ranked as the 9th leading cause of death, but this estimate only considers short-term mortality and likely underestimates the true long-term impact of disease. Herein, we review the data that indicates damage incurred during acute pneumococcal infection can result in long-term sequelae which reduces quality of life and life expectancy among pneumococcal disease survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Covid symptoms reflect its multisystem nature, in addition to its positive relationship between the severity of the condition and the severity of the long COVID. OBJECTIVE To identify the factors associated with the prevalence of SEQUELAE DUE TO COVID-19 one year after their hospital discharge due to severe pneumonia. METHOD Longitudinal, analytical, prospective and comparative study. 71 covid-19 pneumonia survivors were followed. Two telephone interviews were conducted to each patient; the first at 5 months of discharge and the second at 12 months from the mentioned date. We included questions of 40 symptoms, in addition to the questioning of diabetes mellitus and/or systemic hypertension with a mentioned onset during the hospitalization or after hospital discharge due to COVID-19. RESULTS Of the 37 patients without complications and without comorbidities prior to hospitalization, 11 (29.7%) developed arterial hypertension during or after discharge and 17 (45.9%) developed diabetes mellitus before five months. Short-term memory loss was an upward sequel in the two measurements, 24.3% and 41.9% respectively. CONCLUSIONS Type 2 diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure detected at five months was temporary and reversed in many cases at twelve months. It will be important to deepen the study of brain damage and cognitive dysfunction, characterized by memory loss.

Abstract
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) is a viral illness commonly seen in young children under 5 years of age, characterized by typical manifestations such as oral herpes and rashes on the hands and feet. These symptoms typically resolve spontaneously within a few days without complications. Over the past two decades, our understanding of HFMD has greatly improved and it has received significant attention. A variety of research studies, including epidemiological, animal, and in vitro studies, suggest that the disease may be associated with potentially fatal neurological complications. These findings reveal clinical, epidemiological, pathological, and etiological characteristics that are quite different from initial understandings of the illness. It is important to note that HFMD has been linked to severe cardiopulmonary complications, as well as severe neurological sequelae that can be observed during follow-up. At present, there is no specific pharmaceutical intervention for HFMD. An inactivated Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) vaccine that has been approved by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) has been shown to provide a high level of protection against EV-A71-related HFMD. However, the simultaneous circulation of multiple pathogens and the evolution of the molecular epidemiology of infectious agents make interventions based solely on a single agent comparatively inadequate. Enteroviruses are highly contagious and have a predilection for the nervous system, particularly in child populations, which contributes to the ongoing outbreak. Given the substantial impact of HFMD around the world, this Review synthesizes the current knowledge of the virology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, therapy, sequelae, and vaccine development of HFMD to improve clinical practices and public health efforts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term sequelae are frequent and often disabling after epidermal necrolysis (Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)). However, consensus on the modalities of management of these sequelae is lacking. OBJECTIVES We conducted an international multicentric DELPHI exercise to establish a multidisciplinary expert consensus to standardize recommendations regarding management of SJS/TEN sequelae. METHODS Participants were sent a survey via the online tool "Survey Monkey" consisting of 54 statements organized into 8 topics: general recommendations, professionals involved, skin, oral mucosa and teeth, eyes, genital area, mental health, and allergy workup. Participants evaluated the level of appropriateness of each statement on a scale of 1 (extremely inappropriate) to 9 (extremely appropriate). Results were analyzed according to the RAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method. RESULTS Fifty-two healthcare professionals participated. After the first round, a consensus was obtained for 100% of 54 initially proposed statements (disagreement index < 1). Among them, 50 statements were agreed upon as 'appropriate'; four statements were considered 'uncertain', and ultimately finally discarded. CONCLUSIONS Our DELPHI-based expert consensus should help guide physicians in conducting a prolonged multidisciplinary follow-up of sequelae in SJS-TEN.

Abstract
Therapeutic advances in pediatric oncology have made it possible to increase the five-year survival rate of 80% for all types of cancer, giving the possibility of a growing number of children reaching adulthood. This increase in the survival rate is not without cost for the survivors. The most common complications are endocrinopathies and affect approximately 50% of children cured of cancer. Overall mortality increases significantly over time : 6,5% at 10 years (confidence interval [CI] at 95%, 6,2-6,9), 11,9% at 20 years (CI at 95%, 11,5-12,4), and 18,1% at 30 years (CI at 95%, 17,3-18,9). Premature mortality is essentially due to a recurrence of the initial cancer, while late mortality is attributable to the consequences of treatment. Compared to children cured of cancer, adolescents and young adults have a lower risk of death due to later exposure to cancer treatment : 4,8 (CI 95%, 4,4-5,1) against 6,8 (IC 95%, 6,2-7,4), respectively. The psychological and social impact of the experience of cancer and its treatment is in the middle of the discussion. It is strongly recommended that adults cured of cancer benefit from a personalized follow up, according to a global approach. This follow up should be interdisciplinary and should focus on the prevention and management of late effects through screening, education on treatment-related complications, and should encourage preventive lifestyle behaviors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have analyzed the incidence and the risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the post-acute phase of COVID-19 infection. OBJECTIVE To assess the incidence and risk of AMI in COVID-19 survivors after SARS-CoV-2 infection by a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available data. METHODS Data were obtained searching MEDLINE and Scopus for all studies published at any time up to September 1, 2022 and reporting the risk of incident AMI in patients recovered from COVID-19 infection. AMI risk was evaluated using the Mantel-Haenszel random effects models with Hazard ratio (HR) as the effect measure with 95% confidence interval (CI) while heterogeneity was assessed using Higgins and Thomson I2 statistic. RESULTS Among 2765 articles obtained by our search strategy, four studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria for a total of 20,875,843 patients (mean age 56.1 years, 59.1% males). Of them, 1,244,604 had COVID-19 infection. Over a mean follow-up of 8.5 months, among COVID-19 recovered patients AMI occurred in 3.5 cases per 1.000 individuals compared to 2.02 cases per 1.000 individuals in the control cohort, defined as those who did not experience COVID-19 infection in the same period). COVID-19 patients showed an increased risk of incident AMI (HR: 1.93, 95% CI: 1.65-2.26, p < 0.0001, I2 = 83.5%). Meta-regression analysis demonstrated that the risk of AMI was directly associated with age (p = 0.01) and male gender (p = 0.001), while an indirect relationship was observed when the length of follow-up was utilized as moderator (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION COVID-19 recovered patients had an increased risk of AMI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to describe the full scope of long-term outcomes and the ongoing pathophysiological alterations among COVID-19 survivors. METHODS We established a longitudinal cohort of 208 COVID-19 convalescents and followed them at 3.3 (interquartile range [IQR]: 1.3, 4.4, visit 1), 9.2 (IQR: 9.0, 9.6, visit 2), and 18.5 (IQR: 18.2, 19.1, visit 3) months after infection, respectively. Serial changes in multiple physical and psychological outcomes were comprehensively characterized. We, in addition, explored the potential risk factors of SARS-CoV-2 antibody response and sequelae symptoms. RESULTS We observed continuous improvement of sequelae symptoms, lung function, chest computed tomography (CT), 6-minute walk test, and the Borg dyspnea scale, whereas sequelae symptoms (at least one) and abnormal chest CT patterns still existed in 45.2% and about 30% of participants at 18.5 months, respectively. Anxiety and depression disorders were alleviated for the convalescents, although depression status was sustained for a longer duration. CONCLUSIONS Most COVID-19 convalescents had an overall improved physical and psychological health status, whereas sequelae symptoms, residual lesions on lung function, exercise impairment, and mental health disorders were still observed in a small proportion of participants at 18.5 months after infection. Implementing appropriate preventive and management strategies for the ever-growing COVID-19 population is warranted.

Abstract
Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is presently the largest international public health event, individuals infected by the virus not only have symptoms such as fever, dry cough, and lung infection at the time of onset, but also possibly have sequelae in the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system, mental health and other aspects. However, numerous studies have depicted that the active ingredients in tea show good antiviral effects and can treat various diseases by regulating multiple pathways, and the therapeutic effects are associated with the categories of chemical components in tea. In this review, the differences in the content of key active ingredients in different types of tea are summarized. In addition, we also highlighted their effects on COVID-19 and connected sequelae, further demonstrating the possibility of developing a formulation for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and its sequelae through tea extracts. We have a tendency to suggest forestalling and treating COVID-19 and its sequelae through scientific tea drinking.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Critical COVID-19 survivors have a high risk of respiratory sequelae. Therefore, we aimed to identify key factors associated with altered lung function and CT scan abnormalities at a follow-up visit in a cohort of critical COVID-19 survivors. METHODS Multicenter ambispective observational study in 52 Spanish intensive care units. Up to 1327 PCR-confirmed critical COVID-19 patients had sociodemographic, anthropometric, comorbidity and lifestyle characteristics collected at hospital admission; clinical and biological parameters throughout hospital stay; and, lung function and CT scan at a follow-up visit. RESULTS The median [p25-p75] time from discharge to follow-up was 3.57 [2.77-4.92] months. Median age was 60 [53-67] years, 27.8% women. The mean (SD) percentage of predicted diffusing lung capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) at follow-up was 72.02 (18.33)% predicted, with 66% of patients having DLCO<80% and 24% having DLCO<60%. CT scan showed persistent pulmonary infiltrates, fibrotic lesions, and emphysema in 33%, 25% and 6% of patients, respectively. Key variables associated with DLCO<60% were chronic lung disease (CLD) (OR: 1.86 (1.18-2.92)), duration of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) (OR: 1.56 (1.37-1.77)), age (OR [per-1-SD] (95%CI): 1.39 (1.18-1.63)), urea (OR: 1.16 (0.97-1.39)) and estimated glomerular filtration rate at ICU admission (OR: 0.88 (0.73-1.06)). Bacterial pneumonia (1.62 (1.11-2.35)) and duration of ventilation (NIMV (1.23 (1.06-1.42), IMV (1.21 (1.01-1.45)) and prone positioning (1.17 (0.98-1.39)) were associated with fibrotic lesions. CONCLUSION Age and CLD, reflecting patients' baseline vulnerability, and markers of COVID-19 severity, such as duration of IMV and renal failure, were key factors associated with impaired DLCO and CT abnormalities.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Many patients perceive persistent symptoms and impairment in their quality of life after COVID-19. The critical patient is vulnerable to presenting physical and emotional alterations. The objective of this study is to assess the functional evolution and quality of life of the critical patient due to COVID-19. METHODS A prospective longitudinal multicenter study was carried out in critically ill hospitalized patients due to COVID-19 with a 6 month follow-up. Sociodemographic variables, comorbidity, the persistence of symptoms, SPPB scale, pulmonary and respiratory impact, CT scan, Barthel index, neuropsychological variables, physical activity (IPAQ scale), quality of life (Euroqol), and satisfaction were collected. RESULTS 115 patients were included. 75% are male and 86% are obese or overweight. The average time of hospitalization was 38.1±18.4 days, with 80.9% requiring mechanical ventilation. 25% need help from another person for self-care at discharge. 29.2% had a normal CT lung screening at 134.1+70.9 days. At 6 months, functional recovery is favorable, although 36.5% perceive muscle weakness and 22% present fragility. 36.5% of patients report a lack of concentration. The most affected dimension in quality of life is that referred to pain (53%), followed by anxiety or depression. Most perform low physical activity. Satisfaction with clinical follow-up is high. CONCLUSIONS In post-critical patients due to COVID-19, physical, functional, and quality of life alterations prevail at 6 months after hospital discharge.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There are no published studies assessing the evolution of combined determination of the lung diffusing capacity for both nitric oxide and carbon monoxide (DLNO and DLCO) 12 months after the discharge of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. METHODS Prospective cohort study which included patients who were assessed both 3 and 12 months after an episode of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. Their clinical status, health condition, lung function testings (LFTs) results (spirometry, DLNO-DLCO analysis, and six-minute walk test), and chest X-ray/computed tomography scan images were compared. RESULTS 194 patients, age 62 years (P25-75, 51.5-71), 59% men, completed the study. 17% required admission to the intensive care unit. An improvement in the patients' exercise tolerance, the extent of the areas of ground-glass opacity, and the LFTs between 3 and 12 months following their hospital discharge were found, but without a decrease in their degree of dyspnea or their self-perceived health condition. DLNO was the most significantly altered parameter at 12 months (19.3%). The improvement in DLNO-DLCO mainly occurred at the expense of the recovery of alveolar units and their vascular component, with the membrane factor only improving in patients with more severe infections. CONCLUSIONS The combined measurement of DLNO-DLCO is the most sensitive LFT for the detection of the long-term sequelae of COVID-19 pneumonia and it explain better their pathophysiology.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is high in many countries; however, robust, real-world epidemiological data are lacking. This study describes the prevalence, characteristics, treatment patterns, and long-term clinical outcomes of patients with chronic HBV infection in the US, Germany, and Taiwan. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort analysis of three healthcare/insurance claims databases. Individuals were identified as patients with chronic HBV infection if their records contained HBV diagnostic codes from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2012 (Germany and Taiwan) or 1 January 2013 (USA). Included patients were indexed on 1 January 2013. Patients' demographics, clinical characteristics, and healthcare utilisation were described. Treatment patterns and long-term clinical outcomes over follow-up (to 31 December 2016 or loss to follow-up) were estimated. RESULTS The prevalence of chronic HBV infection was 0.10%, 0.17%, and 2.39% in the US, Germany, and Taiwan respectively. Prevalence was very low in children, increased rapidly in adulthood, and peaked in 50- < 65 year olds before declining in the elderly. More US (16.6%) and German (15.4%) patients were HIV ± HCV coinfected than in Taiwan (4.1%). Baseline clinical characteristics and healthcare utilisation were broadly similar between countries. In total, 19.2%, 11.1%, and 5.9% of non-coinfected adult patients received treatment at index in the US, Germany, and Taiwan, respectively; most frequently with nucleos(t)ide analogue monotherapy (94.4%, 97.2%, 99.8% of treated patients, respectively) and rarely with interferons (0.27%, 1.63%, and 0.06%, respectively). Untreated Taiwanese patients were more likely to remain untreated than elsewhere, and treated Taiwanese patients were less likely to persist with therapy. Generally, the cumulative incidence of long-term clinical outcomes was lowest in Germany. CONCLUSION This study provides a contemporary, real-world, intercontinental snapshot of chronic HBV infection. Long-term sequelae occurred in all populations, and treatment levels were low, suggesting an unmet need for (or access to) effective treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the feasibility of adjusting radiation dose (RD) in childhood NPC with favorable tumor response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). PATIENTS AND METHODS Using an NPC-specific database, children and adolescents (≤18 years) with locoregionally advanced NPC (CA-LANPC) were retrospectively analyzed. Enrolled patients were those who received favorable tumor response after 2-4 cycles of NAC followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Survival outcomes and treatment-related toxicities were compared for the standard RD on primary tumors (PT-RDstandard, 66-72 Gy) and the reduced RD on primary tumors (PT-RDreduced, 60-65.9 Gy). RESULTS A total of 132 patients were included, and the median follow-up time was 75.2 months (IQR, 53.2-98.7 months) for the entire cohort. The PT-RDreduced group had a significantly decreased incidence of severe mucositis (51.3 % vs 32.1 %; P = 0.034) when compared to the PT-RDstandard group. The total incidence of severe sequela in the PT-RDstandard group were significantly higher than those in the PT-RDreduced group (31.8 % vs 13.7 %; P = 0.029). In the propensity-matched analysis, the PT-RDreduced group resulted in parallel 5-year survival with the PT-RDstandard group from the matched cohort (disease-free survival, 82.7 % vs 80.3 %, P = 0.841; overall survival, 91.7 % vs 91.3 %, P = 0.582; distant metastasis-free survival, 87.5 % vs 82.8 %, P = 0.573; and locoregional relapse-free survival, 95.6 % vs 97.3 %, P = 0.836). In multivariate analysis, the impact of PT-RDreduced on all survival end points remained insignificant. CONCLUSIONS Chemoradiotherapy with RD at levels of 60-65.9 Gy may be a reasonable strategy for CA-LANPC with favorable tumor response after NAC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the sequelae one month after hospital discharge in patients who required admission to Intensive Care for severe COVID 19 pneumonia and to analyze the differences between those who received therapy exclusively with high-flow oxygen therapy compared to those who required invasive mechanical ventilation. DESIGN Cohort, prospective and observational study. SETTING Post-intensive care multidisciplinary program. PATIENTS OR PARTICIPANTS Patients who survived admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) for severe COVID 19 pneumonia from April 2020 to October 2021. INTERVENTIONS Inclusion in the post-ICU multidisciplinary program. MAIN VARIABLES OF INTEREST Motor, sensory, psychological/psychiatric, respiratory and nutritional sequelae after hospital admission. RESULTS 104 patients were included. 48 patients received high-flow nasal oxygen therapy (ONAF) and 56 invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). The main sequelae found were distal neuropathy (33.9% IMV vs 10.4% ONAF); brachial plexopathy (10.7% IMV vs 0% ONAF); decrease in grip strength: right hand 20.67kg (±8.27) in VMI vs 31.8kg (±11.59) in ONAF and left hand 19.39kg (±8.45) in VMI vs 30.26kg (±12.74) in ONAF; and limited muscle balance in the lower limbs (28.6% VMI vs 8.6% ONAF). The differences observed between both groups did not reach statistical significance in the multivariable study. CONCLUSIONS The results obtained after the multivariate study suggest that there are no differences in the perceived physical sequelae one month after hospital discharge depending on the respiratory therapy used, whether it was high-flow nasal oxygen therapy or prolonged mechanical ventilation, although more studies are needed to be able to draw conclusions.

Abstract
COVID-19 is a serious threat to human health and development. The acute burden of the pandemic includes more than 18.2 million deaths worldwide, and is unprecedented in modern times. This represents only a fraction of the total burden, as it excludes infection sequelae. An effective global strategic paradigm has been missing throughout the pandemic. The 'flattening the curve' approach neglected the importance of infection sequelae, and being centered on healthcare capacity was conceptually contrary to a people-centered health system. In March 2022, the World Health Organization revised its pandemic approach, importantly shifting emphasis away from managing transmission and towards prevention. Despite limitations, this now recognizes the role of infection sequelae, whose impact is becoming clearer in both variety and scale. Drawing on the foundational concepts of Sun Tzu and Carl von Clausewitz, most country approaches do not qualify as strategies, but rather as operational plans. They are also largely ineffective, neglecting infection sequelae, viral evolution dangers and other parameters. The purpose of this article is to summarize the evidence on COVID-19 infection sequelae, and alongside other contextual parameters use this to motivate that infection should be prevented. This is then used to answer the question: What is an effective strategy against COVID-19?

Abstract
A systematic literature review was conducted up to 15th February 2022 to summarize long COVID evidence and to assess prevalence and clinical presentation in children and adolescents. Articles reporting long COVID prevalence and symptoms based on original data in the paediatric population were included. Case series quality was assessed through the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist. For observational studies, adherence to STROBE checklist was evaluated. Twenty-two articles were included: 19 observational studies (12 cohort/7 cross-sectional) and 3 case series. Nine studies provided a control group. We found a high variability in terms of prevalence (1.6-70%). The most frequently reported symptoms were fatigue (2-87%), headache (3.5-80%), arthro-myalgias (5.4-66%), chest tightness or pain (1.4-51%), and dyspnoea (2-57.1%). Five studies reported limitations in daily function due to long COVID. Alterations at brain imaging were described in one study, transient electrocardiographic abnormalities were described in a minority of children, while most authors did not evidence long-term pulmonary sequelae. Older age, female sex, and previous long-term pathological conditions were more frequently associated with persistent symptoms. CONCLUSION Long COVID evidence in children is limited, heterogeneous, and based on low-quality studies. The lockdown consequences are difficult to distinguish from long COVID symptoms. High-quality studies are required: WHO definition of long COVID should be used, controlled clinical studies should be encouraged, and the impact of new variants on long COVID prevalence should be investigated to ensure an objective analysis of long COVID characteristics in children and a proper allocation of healthcare system resources. WHAT IS KNOWN • Children rarely develop a severe respiratory disease in the acute phase of COVID-19. • A limited number of patients develop a multisystem inflammatory condition that can lead to multiorgan failure and shock. WHAT IS NEW • Persistent symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection are reported in children and limitations in daily function due to long COVID symptoms affect school attendance. • Functional complaints of post-acute COVID are difficult to be distinguished from those due to social restrictions.

Abstract
The impact of continued COVID-19 sequelae on singers' vocal function has yet to be determined. An online survey of singers who have contracted SARS-CoV-2 infection was designed and administered globally. Participants (n = 1,153) were recruited in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Survey questions included demographics, peri- and post-SARS-CoV-2 infection symptoms, and self-reported sequelae attributed to long-COVID. The survey was made available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Traditional and Simplified Mandarin Chinese. Data were statistically analyzed to provide a useful summary of the sample and to evaluate associations between long-COVID and singers' vocal function. We found that age, gender, and vaccination status were not significantly correlated to a change in singing voice in our sample. However, severity of infection was statistically correlated with a change in singing voice. Of the 34 signs and symptoms presented, lingering cough, shortness of breath, and chronic fatigue were significantly correlated with a change in singing voice. These data and their analyses have added to our understanding of this growing population's unique vocal needs, and may inform strategies for singing voice habilitation in COVID-19 survivors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sufficient physical activity (PA) has the potential to mitigate late effects of cancer, but objective data of PA levels in adolescents are scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in PA behavior between childhood cancer survivors (CCS) and healthy peers. METHODS PA levels of n = 74 CCS and n = 1304 healthy peers from the MoMo study aged 9-15 years were assessed with validated objective accelerometry and group means were compared. A binary multiple logistic regression was performed to investigate the potential predictors of PA. RESULTS CCS spent significantly more time sedentary (p < 0.001) and less time in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (p = 0.002) compared to the healthy cohort. Subgroup analysis revealed the largest deviations of PA levels for CCS aged 9-11 years who fulfilled international PA recommendations on significantly fewer days than MoMo (p < 0.01). Health conditions seem to be a predictor concerning the fulfillment of international PA recommendations by the WHO (p = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS Our study identified vulnerable groups which seem to require targeted exercise and health behavior change programs to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary time. The presence of treatment sequelae as a significant predictor of insufficient physical activity underlines the need of multidisciplinary supportive care approaches.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although complications and clinical symptoms of COVID-19 have been elucidated, the prevalence of long-term sequelae of COVID-19 is less clear in previously hospitalized COVID-19 patients. This review and meta-analysis present the occurrence of different symptoms up to 1 year of follow-up for previously hospitalized patients. METHODS We performed a systematic review from PubMed and Web of Science using keywords such as "COVID-19", "SARS-CoV-2", "sequelae", "long-term effect" and included studies with at least 3-month of follow-up. Meta-analyses using random-effects models were performed to estimate the pooled prevalence for different sequelae. Subgroup analyses were conducted by different follow-up time, regions, age and ICU admission. RESULTS 72 articles were included in the meta-analyses after screening 11,620 articles, identifying a total of 167 sequelae related to COVID-19 from 88,769 patients. Commonly reported sequelae included fatigue (27.5%, 95% CI 22.4-33.3%, range 1.5-84.9%), somnipathy (20.1%, 95% CI 14.7-26.9%, range 1.2-64.8%), anxiety (18.0%, 95% CI 13.8-23.1%, range 0.6-47.8%), dyspnea (15.5%, 95% CI 11.3-20.9%, range 0.8-58.4%), PTSD (14.6%, 95% CI 11.3-18.7%, range 1.2-32.0%), hypomnesia (13.4%, 95% CI 8.4-20.7%, range 0.6-53.8%), arthralgia (12.9%, 95% CI 8.4-19.2%, range 0.0-47.8%), depression (12.7%, 95% CI 9.3-17.2%, range 0.6-37.5%), alopecia (11.2%, 95% CI 6.9-17.6%, range 0.0-47.0%) over 3-13.2 months of follow-up. The prevalence of most symptoms reduced after > 9 months of follow-up, but fatigue and somnipathy persisted in 26.2% and 15.1%, respectively, of the patients over a year. COVID-19 patients from Asia reported a lower prevalence than those from other regions. CONCLUSIONS This review identified a wide spectrum of COVID-19 sequelae in previously hospitalized COVID-19 patients, with some symptoms persisting up to 1 year. Management and rehabilitation strategies targeting these symptoms may improve quality of life of recovered patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is evidence of increased risk of hypertension, albuminuria, and development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in long-term follow-up of survivors of Wilms tumor (WT). However, most studies were conducted in heterogeneous groups, including patients with solitary kidney. In addition, little is known about tubular dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate kidney sequelae, including CKD development, hypertension, and glomerular and tubular damage in WT survivors. METHODS This cross-sectional, single-center study included 61 patients treated for WT. Surrogates for kidney sequelae were defined as presence of at least one of the following: decrease in GFR for CKD, hypertension detected by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, albuminuria (albumin-to-creatinine ratio [ACR] > 30 mg/g), or increase in at least one tubular biomarker (beta-2-microglobulin, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, kidney injury marker-1, and liver fatty acid-binding protein) in 24-h urine. RESULTS Median age of patients was 11.7 years, with median follow-up of 8.8 years. Thirty-eight patients (62%) had at least one surrogate for kidney sequelae. Twenty-four patients (39%) had CKD, 14 patients (23%) had albuminuria, 12 patients (21%) had hypertension, and 11 patients (18%) had tubular damage. Urine ACR was significantly higher in patients with advanced tumor stage and patients with nephrotoxic therapy than their counterparts (p < 0.05), but neither eGFR nor tubular biomarkers showed any association with tumor- or treatment-related factors. CONCLUSIONS A considerable number of patients with WT have kidney sequelae, especially early-stage CKD with a high prevalence. Albuminuria emerges as a marker associated with tumor stages and nephrotoxic treatment. A higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available as Supplementary information.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease (COVID-19) triggers the development of numerous pathologies and infection-linked complications and exacerbates existing pathologies in nearly all body systems. Aside from the primarily targeted respiratory organs, adverse SARS-CoV-2 effects were observed in nervous, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal/metabolic, immune, and other systems in COVID-19 survivors. Long-term effects of this viral infection have been recently observed and represent distressing sequelae recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a distinct clinical entity defined as post-COVID-19 condition. Considering the pandemic is still ongoing, more time is required to confirm post COVID-19 condition diagnosis in the COVID-19 infected cohorts, although many reported post COVID-19 symptoms overlap with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). AIMS OF REVIEW In this study, COVID-19 clinical presentation and associated post-infection sequelae (post-COVID-19 condition) were reviewed and compared with ME/CFS symptomatology. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW The onset, progression, and symptom profile of post COVID-19 condition patients have considerable overlap with ME/CFS. Considering the large scope and range of pro-inflammatory effects of this virus, it is reasonable to expect development of post COVID-19 clinical complications in a proportion of the affected population. There are reports of a later debilitating syndrome onset three months post COVID-19 infection (often described as long-COVID-19), marked by the presence of fatigue, headache, cognitive dysfunction, post-exertional malaise, orthostatic intolerance, and dyspnoea. Acute inflammation, oxidative stress, and increased levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), have been reported in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. Longitudinal monitoring of post COVID-19 patients is warranted to understand the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the pathomechanism of post COVID-19 condition.
