Abstract
Evidence shows that caring for a family member with a psychotic disorder generates a significant emotional impact and repercussions on social functioning. However, this caregiving experience can be influenced by cultural factors. The aim of this study is to explore the experience and perception of a group of family caregivers of patients with psychotic disorders of different durations regarding the emotional and social functioning repercussions of caregiving on them in Andalusia. Three focus groups (28 participants) were conducted. Data were subject to a thematic analysis. Three themes emerged from the data: 1) Emotional invasion; 2) Disruption in the caregiver's life project; and 3) Changes in the family system. Participants reported experiencing sadness, fear, overwhelm, hopelessness, and uncertainty. Caregivers' accounts reflected an interruption of their daily tasks, as well as the need to reformulate plans or goals outside the family life that require long-term commitment, such as professional development or even their residence. The narratives indicated an impact on all roles within the family system, particularly for the mother. The results are consistent with existing research. Healthcare professionals and programs should take into account the costs associated with caregiving in order to minimize them, given the impact it has on both the patient's and the caregivers' health.

Abstract
AIM To systematically review and synthesize primary research on experiences and needs of adult informal caregivers of adults at risk of suicide. DESIGN Systematic review with a data-based convergent synthesis. DATA SOURCES MEDLINE, PsychINFO and CINAHL were searched in April 2022 and February 2023. English language research focusing on experiences of adult carers of adults was included. METHODS Articles were screened by title (n = 9077) and abstract (n = 132) with additional articles (n = 6) obtained via citation and hand searching. Thirty-one included studies were quality assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool and study data were systematically extracted prior to thematic synthesis. RESULTS Five interconnected themes resulted: transitions; living with fear and uncertainty; changing relationships; interface with healthcare professionals and services; what carers need and want. Caring impacts mental, physical and social wellbeing. Relationships are affected in ways which might not be evident when caring for a minor. Repeated suicidal behaviour is particularly challenging with ongoing hypervigilance contributing to burden, burnout and interpersonal strain. Poor carer support exacerbates negative effects; carers need to feel informed, educated, involved and holistically supported. CONCLUSION Timely support for carers is essential. Interventions should address emotional responses, relational changes and effective care recipient support. Longitudinal research is required to understand effects of ongoing caring where there are multiple suicide attempts. IMPLICATIONS Nurses can provide carers with early support and information and longer term psychosocial interventions. If carers are adequately equipped and supported patient safety and wellbeing will be improved. IMPACT Findings of this systematic review include relational changes due to carer hypervigilance reducing autonomy and living with the possibility of suicide. Clinician awareness of the potential for relational shifts will help them prepare and support carers. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION There was no patient or public contribution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Family life is disrupted when a child experiences mental health difficulties. This can have long-standing effects on sibling relationships. This study explores the lived experiences of young people who have an adolescent sibling hospitalised for treatment of a mental health difficulty. METHOD Semi-structured interviews of 45-60 min were conducted to explore the experiences of 10 siblings (6 sisters/4 brothers aged 13-22) of nine patients (5 sisters/4 brothers aged 15-17) receiving treatment for a mental health difficulty in a child and adolescent inpatient unit (IPU). Interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to analyse the data. RESULTS Two superordinate themes were identified: 'Who am I if I'm not supporting them?' and 'On the fringes: actively involved but from the outside'. The interplay of these two super-ordinate themes was found to influence the five sub-ordinate themes: 'Confusion and disbelief', 'Don't worry about me, focus on them.', 'Powerless when I need to be powerful.', 'Helping or hindering- what is this place??' and 'Knowledge is power.' CONCLUSION Siblings described experiencing conflicting and confusing emotions which may impact their attendance in IPU and engagement in siblings' treatment. Siblings of adolescents in inpatient treatment for mental health difficulties may be at increased risk of experiencing psychological distress. The mental well-being of siblings must be borne in mind by child and adolescent inpatient services supporting families in crisis.

Abstract
PURPOSE Family members of cancer patients experience a range of challenges and are impacted in various ways by cancer. To our knowledge, the impact of cancer on adult siblings has yet to be explored. Sibling relationships are one of the longest relationships individuals have across the lifespan. Thus, the current study sought to investigate the perspectives of siblings of those who previously had cancer. METHODS Ten participants were recruited using purposive sampling. A qualitative, cross-sectional design was implemented with both virtual and in-person semi-structured interviews. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. RESULTS The researchers identified five themes relating to both the impact of cancer on siblings and the supports they received: changes in family relationships, sibling's grief is forgotten, benefits of social support networks, supporting their sibling and caregiving and self-support. CONCLUSIONS Cancer organizations and support services should focus on signposting services for siblings in order to ensure they can access support. Further research is needed with siblings to gain greater insight into what supports siblings feel are available for them to access, whether there are any for them to access or how supports can be improved. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS The provision of appropriate psychological support for siblings of cancer patients will ensure they can provide optimal support and care to their siblings. This will in turn benefit cancer patients along their cancer trajectory as adequate support from their caregivers will enhance their quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to synthesise the psychosocial stressors of siblings of people with experiences of psychosis (SOPEP). Understanding the specific needs of siblings across diverse cultures would help mental health services to provide culturally specific psychosocial family and sibling-centred support. This may result in improved relationships between families, better psychosocial well-being for siblings and better outcomes for patients. METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review was conducted to explore the psychosocial stressors of SOPEP. Six databases were utilised to identify literature using qualitative methodology. RESULTS Twenty-two studies were included that investigated the Psychosocial Stressors of SOPEP. SOPEP's experiences were influenced by various stages: individual factors, social factors, physical and macro-level environments. Six key components contributed to SOPEP's psychosocial stressors and facilitated or hindered their intentions, behaviours and experiences of caregiving. These were the SOPEP's beliefs about psychosis, caregiving beliefs, family and cultural values, personality traits, pragmatic challenges and access to resources. CONCLUSIONS Globally, SOPEP and families may benefit from their involvement in family interventions and individual support that facilitates caregiving and acknowledges their responsibilities, resources, psychosocial needs and emotional experiences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a mental health condition that can have far-reaching consequences for the entire family, not just for the affected individual. Siblings are particularly vulnerable in that the unremitting stress and guilt at home can affect multiple aspects of their lives, including relationships, added responsibilities, and health. This pressure may affect siblings' own emotional well-being and academic success. Most studies in this field have examined the impact of depression on the affected adolescents or their parents, whereas few have examined the impact on siblings. Sibling studies have been limited by lack of sample homogeneity, especially in the context of coping in high school. This study sought to examine the retrospective experiences of young adults who lived in the same house as a sibling with depression while they were in high school. METHODS This qualitative study examined 21 young adults (aged 18-29) who grew up with a sibling with depression. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted from May to September 2022. The interviews were recorded and transcribed and underwent thematic analysis. RESULTS Three main themes emerged from the interviews: (1) "School as a place of refuge": The perspective of participants who grew up with a sibling with depression regarding their high school experience. (2) "I wanted the adults at school to see me": Relations between research participants and the school educational staff. (3) "I was afraid people would relate to me as the sibling of a crazy person": Participants' relationships with their peers. CONCLUSIONS This study sheds light on the experiences of adolescents who grew up with a sibling with depression. The findings point to feelings of being invisible, self-nullification, avoiding sharing with others, and transparency. The participants were afraid that if their peers found out about their sibling they would also be stigmatized and alienated. The study shows that adolescents living with a sibling with depression need support at school.

Abstract
Little is known about the role of adult siblings’ caregiver role within the context of mental illness. Therefore, our purpose was to explore how siblings narrate their experiences of being the main caregivers of a brother or sister with severe mental illness and how they cooperate with their ill sibling and their family of origin. We used a narrative hermeneutic approach and performed a secondary analysis of two interviews of siblings derived from a study of peoples’ experiences of hearing voices. The findings illuminate the participants’ multifaceted roles and how differently siblings might deal with the multiple challenges of caring for an ill sibling. The mediating role between their ill sibling and their family of origin to reestablish the broken family bonds was a significant aspect. Nurses’ awareness of the important and multidimensional role of caregiving siblings can improve the provision of family support and promote involvement of siblings in the treatment of an ill family member.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES While one third of people with a psychotic disorder are a parent, there has been little research to date examining the consequences of this from a whole family perspective. This study investigates families where a parent has experienced an episode of psychosis and compares and contrasts the family members' perspectives. DESIGN This study was rooted in phenomenology and data were derived from in-depth semi-structured interviews. METHODS Parents with a psychotic disorder who had a child aged between 3 and 11 in a UK NHS Trust were invited to take part in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with these parents, with their child (if they were between the ages of 8 and 11), and with their partner or another close family member. Data were analysed using multiperspectival interpretive phenomenological analysis (m-IPA). RESULTS Thirteen participants took part comprising of five parents, four children, three partners and one grandmother. Four themes were developed using m-IPA: (1) Parental psychosis impacts the whole family, (2) Psychosis and my role as a parent, (3) Secrecy and concealment surrounding parental psychosis, and (4) Pressures and vulnerabilities within the family system. CONCLUSION Psychosis had a negative impact on all family members and secrecy existed between family members. The children in particular only had partial information about their parent's mental illness, which left them worried and confused. More work is needed to support these families to explain psychosis to the children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mental illness is a serious condition affecting the diagnosed individual and all family members. Family members caring for a sibling with mental illness encounter severe challenges, which, if unresolved, becomes a burden they carry for the rest of their lives. OBJECTIVES The purpose of the study was to describe family members' experiences caring for a sibling with mental illness in Giyani. METHOD A qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and contextual research design was used. Eight family members caring for a sibling with mental illness were purposively sampled. Data were collected through in-depth phenomenological interviews, and data were analysed using thematic coding, and an external coder was consulted. RESULTS The study's findings revealed that family members caring for a sibling with mental illness experienced significant challenges. The three themes that emerged after data analysis were the following: caring for a sibling with mental illness was an overwhelming experience; family members experience emotional instability as a result of caring for their sibling with mental illness and family members need support in caring for their sibling with mental illness. CONCLUSION The findings indicated that family members need support in caring for a sibling with mental illness. Family members would cope better with support from extended family, healthcare professionals in mental health and the community; this will reduce the burden of caring for a sibling with mental for family members. Furthermore, the availability of resources can assist in facilitating family members' mental health.Contribution: This study could make an impact in psychiatric nursing practice, nursing education in promotion of support for family members for a sibling with mental illness.

Abstract
Introduction Mental disorders affect 1 in 5 children having consequences for both the child and their family. Indeed, the siblings of these children are not insulated from these consequences and may experience elevated levels of psychological distress, placing them at increased risk for developing mental disorders. This protocol describes the methodology for a scoping review that will examine how mental disorders in children impact the mental health of their sibling(s). Further, we aim to examine the role of sex, gender, birth order, age of each child, and familial factors (e.g., parent mental illness, family structure), in sibling mental health. The proposed review will also identify resources that aim to support the needs of siblings of children with mental disorders. Taken together, this proposed review aims to take a fundamental step towards determining intervention targets to reduce the transmission of risk between siblings. Aim The proposed scoping review aims to address the following questions: i) how do mental disorders (in children <18 years of age) impact the mental health of their sibling(s) (also <18 years of age)? ii) Can we identify resources designed to address the needs of siblings of children with mental disorders? Methods We will conduct the proposed scoping review in keeping with the six-stage Arksey and O’Malley Framework and the scoping review methodology provided by the Joanna Briggs Institute. In section i) we outline our research questions. In section ii) we describe our process for identifying studies that examine the mental health of siblings of a child with a mental disorder and studies that provide evidence on resources directed specifically at these siblings. We will search peer-review and grey literature published between 2011 and 2022 from OVID MEDLINE, OVID EMBASE, CINAHL Complete, Proquest Nursing and Allied Health, PsycINFO (via APA platform), Proquest Sociology Collection and Web of Science Core Collection and Proquest Theses and Dissertations. Section iii) describes our process for selecting relevant studies. In sections iv and v, we describe our methods for charting and summarizing relevant data. Finally, in section vi) we describe our integrative knowledge translation plan that aims to include knowledge users in interpretating and translating evidence gathered from the proposed review.

Few studies have explored the differences in clinical psychopathology between youth at high risk for psychosis and those at familial high risk for psychosis. This study seeks to describe and compare the sociodemographic, clinical, and functional characteristics of At-Risk Mental State (ARMS) for psychosis youth and those with a first- or second-degree relative with psychosis (Familial High-Risk: FHR) in a Mexican sample. Twenty-one ARMS individuals and 21 with FHR were evaluated for sociodemographic characteristics, psychopathological symptoms, and functional impairment. ARMS individuals were significantly younger, had fewer years of schooling, and were more likely to be male than those in the FHR group. Groups did not differ as regards marital status or occupation. The ARMS group showed greater severity of prodromal symptoms, schizotypal personality traits, and general psychopathology than the FHR group. In addition, they reported more premorbid adjustment deficit from early adolescence than the FHR group. Current overall social and role functioning was significantly lower in the ARMS group. Findings are consistent with ARMS studies from other countries. First- or second-degree relatives of patients with psychosis should be considered a vulnerable group as they display several symptoms of general psychopathology and may experience social adjustment problems in their adult lives. The lack of early detection and intervention psychosis programs in Mexico underlines the need to prioritize the development of preventive strategies to help close the care gap.

Abstract
AIM A large proportion of individuals with an at-risk mental state (ARMS) live at home and are supported by their families. Recommended treatment includes family intervention (FI), and therefore, understanding relationships between individuals with an ARMS and their family members is key. This study aimed to provide a more holistic exploration of relationships within families of individuals with an ARMS by reporting the perceived impact of the condition on other family members including sibling and romantic relationships. METHOD Fourteen semi-structured interviews with family members were analysed using thematic analysis. RESULTS Parents wanted to maintain a safe family environment for all family members. This can result in spending less time with siblings who impacted on siblings' relationships with the service user and other family members. Romantic relationships were negatively impacted when there was unclear communication between the couple, as well as the partner's response and understanding of the ARMS condition. Clear communication across sibling and romantic relationships facilitated helpful family/carer's behaviour and understanding of the individuals' mental distress. CONCLUSION FI should explore and support families with changes in sibling and romantic relationships. More research is needed to understand siblings' perspectives in families with individuals experiencing an ARMS and to develop resources to support partners and families in changes within their sexual and romantic relationships.

Abstract
The post-discharge period is an extremely vulnerable period for patients, particularly for those discharged from inpatient children and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). Poor discharge practices and discontinuity of care can put children and youth at heightened risk for readmission, among other adverse outcomes. However, there is limited understanding of the structure and effectiveness of interventions to facilitate discharges from CAMHS. As such, a scoping review was conducted to identify the literature on discharge interventions. This scoping review aimed to describe key components, designs, and outcomes of existing discharge interventions from CAMHS. Nineteen documents were included in the final review. Discharge interventions were extracted and summarized for pre-discharge, post-discharge, and bridging elements. Results of this scoping review found that intervention elements included aspects of risk assessment, individualized care, discharge preparation, community linkage, psychoeducation, and follow-up support. Reported outcomes of discharge interventions were also extracted and included positive patient and caregiver satisfaction, improved patient health outcomes, and increased cost effectiveness. Literature on discharge interventions from inpatient CAMHS, while variable in structure, consistently underscore the role of such interventions in minimizing patient and family vulnerability post-discharge. However, findings are limited by inadequate reporting and heterogeneity across studies. There is a need for further research into the design, implementation, and evaluation of interventions to support successful discharges from inpatient child and adolescent mental health care.

Abstract
AIMS Family carers supporting an individual with psychosis often experience poorer mental health, however, little is known about specific risk factors among these carers. We investigated the associations between demographic, caregiving characteristics and mental health outcomes in family carers supporting an individual with psychosis and compared carers' outcomes with general population norms. METHODS We analysed baseline data from the COPe-support randomised controlled trial of online psychoeducation and peer support for adult carers supporting an individual with psychosis between 2018 and 2020. We collected carers' demographic and health outcome data, including wellbeing using Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS as primary outcome), quality of life using EQ-5D-5L and caregiving experience assessed with Experience of Caregiving Inventory. We tested associations between carers' demographic and caregiving characteristics for each outcome in turn and meta-analysed carers' WEMWBS and EQ-5D-5L with Health Survey England (HSE) general population data from 2016 and 2017, respectively. RESULTS The 407 carers of people with psychosis had a mean WEMWBS score of 42.2 (s.d. 9.21) and their overall weighted pooled WEMWBS score was 7.3 (95% confidence interval (CI) -8.6 to -6.0, p < 0.01) lower than the HSE general population sample, indicating carers have poorer mental wellbeing by more than double the minimum clinically important difference of 3 points on WEMWBS. Among all caring relationships, partners had poorer wellbeing compared to parents with lower WEMWBS score (-6.8, -16.9 to 3.3, p = 0.03). Single carers had significantly poorer wellbeing (-3.6, -5.6 to -1.5, p < 0.01) and a more negative caregiving experience than those who were cohabiting. Spending more than 35 h per week caregiving increased carers' negative experience significantly (p = 0.01). CONCLUSION Carers of people with psychosis have poorer mental health than non-carers. Partners, lone carers and those spending more than 35 h per week on caring were found to be most at risk of poor mental health. Based on the results, we advocate that the details of carers for individuals with psychosis should be added to the existing carers or severe mental illness registers at all general practitioner surgeries and for their wellbeing screened routinely. Future large-scale prospective studies are needed to develop a predictive model to determine risk factors, hence to aid early identification of carers' support needs. Such understandings are also useful to inform tailored intervention development.

Abstract
AIM The first episode of psychosis is a challenging time for both patients and those who care for them. Although literature on treatment is plentiful, literature on how to best support caregivers is more scarce. This review was undertaken to better understand the caregiver experience, determine which interventions most effectively alleviate their burden and examine which other factors may affect outcomes. METHODS Articles were retrieved from PubMed and OVID using the following search terms: first episode psychosis (FEP), schizophrenia, caregiver, intervention and burden in various combinations. Only peer-reviewed articles germane to FEP caregiver experience and interventions written in English were included. RESULTS Caregivers can experience grief, guilt and anxiety during this time. While concerned for their loved one, their own lives take a back seat and their mental and physical health are adversely affected. Some are better prepared to cope and are typically warm, decisive, confident and optimistic. Their families are organized and flexible. Others are less prepared and are more likely to have poor self-esteem, use avoidant coping strategies and be overly critical. Their families are controlling and have difficulty with communication and balance. These caregivers stand to benefit most from interventions. CONCLUSIONS Effective interventions incorporate psychoeducation, problem solving strategies, peer support and clinician guidance. A higher level of interaction with facilitators and peers is associated with better results. Benefits include decreases in caregiver burden, depressive and anxious symptoms and feelings of shame and isolation. Although the literature has yet to isolate the key factors of a successful intervention, this review provides practical suggestions for clinicians and further illustrates the need for more research.

Abstract
WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: In clinical psychiatry and mental health nursing practice, family caregivers are known to provide the bulk of care and play an important role in facilitating recovery outcomes for their loved ones diagnosed with psychosis. Providing services and interventions to family caregivers is as important as to patients in the early stage of psychotic experience for having a beneficial impact on the patients' clinical and social outcomes. Limited qualitative research has focused on family caregivers' subjective views of what they need during the critical period to identify early warning signs and connect their loved ones to professional help as they have no prior experience in caring for persons with psychosis. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Using qualitative analysis of family caregiver focus groups, this manuscript provides readers in clinical nursing practice with an understanding of family caregivers' lived experiences of supporting their loved one diagnosed with early psychosis. Understanding family caregivers' caregiving unmet needs in supporting their loved one diagnosed with early psychosis could inform both the technology-assisted intervention development and nursing practice in improving family-centred care and facilitate self-management practice. IMPLICATIONS FOR MENTAL HEALTH NURSING: Psychiatry and mental health nursing has long been engaged with the health and well-being of individuals with psychosis and supporting their families in the development, evaluation and implementation of innovative approaches to patient and family education. Digital technologies designed to deliver tailored intervention for family caregivers are underdeveloped, and the present study identifies a number of potential features that could comprise technology to meet the needs of this population. ABSTRACT: Introduction Caregivers play a critical role in detecting and managing psychotic symptoms before young people diagnosed with early psychosis present to care. Little is known about the specific needs of caregivers in navigating pathways to care for their loved one. Aim The purpose of this study was to understand the needs of family caregivers and their ways of coping on the pathway to care for early psychosis. Method Twenty family caregivers of individuals diagnosed with early psychosis participated in three focus groups that explored caregiving needs provision for early psychosis. Thematic analysis was conducted. Results We identified four major themes: education and skill training; raising wider awareness, such as police offers and teachers; adopting technologies for coping; and effective coping strategies. Implications for practice These findings provide important insights into caregiving needs and the ways for nurses to address those needs and better equip carers to recognize early symptoms, monitor behaviour changes and navigate care to support people with first-episode psychosis. Nursing researchers can use the information to develop on-demand and tailored family-centred intervention in addressing caregivers' needs in education, increasing awareness of early psychosis and fostering effective coping strategies.

Abstract
Studies are increasingly recognizing health-related quality of life (HRQOL) as a key pediatric outcome in both clinical and research settings and an essential health outcome measure to assess the effectiveness of medical treatment. However, it has not yet been studied among the healthy siblings of kidney transplant recipients. The aim of this study, therefore, is to examine HRQOL among this population. We asked the following three groups to complete a validated measure of HRQOL among children (KIDSCREEN-52): siblings of children who had received kidney transplants (n = 50), kidney transplant recipients (n = 43), and a healthy control group (n = 84). We found that siblings of kidney transplant patients exhibited lower scores for financial resources and autonomy than kidney transplant recipients. They also served lower on physical well-being, financial resources, autonomy, and parent relations/home life than the control group. However, they scored higher on social acceptance than kidney transplant recipients. Our study underscores the importance of assessing HRQOL in families including a child diagnosed with a chronic illness. Siblings require social and psychological support to promote coping and adaptation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness that strongly affects not only the patients with schizophrenia, but also their families and close relatives. So far, family research on patients with schizophrenia has mainly focused on parents, but has neglected siblings. AIM This study aims to evaluate the well-being of 103 siblings of patients with schizophrenia within the Lazarus and Folkman's Transactional Coping and Stress Model. MATERIALS A Sociodemographic Information Form, Subjective Well-being Scale, Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, Ways of Coping Scale and Shortened Perceived Parental Rearing Styles Form were administered to the siblings of patients with schizophrenia. RESULTS The results of this study revealed that well-being was associated with perceived mother overprotection, perceived social support, problem-focused coping and indirect coping. Social support moderated the relationship between burden and well-being as a buffering factor. CONCLUSION Therefore, siblings of patients with schizophrenia should be given access to social support and their problem-focused coping strategies should be strengthened. Besides, parents should be supported to provide suitable care for the siblings of patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract
Family members of patients with schizophrenia, especially when they assume caregivers' positions, experience difficulties to adapt to the situation. To gain insight into these caregivers' coping style is a challenge to decrease the stress of family members, and in this way, improve patient related outcome. The FCQ (Family Coping Questionnaire) is an adapted clinical assessment tool that focuses on specific ways to cope with dysfunction that characterize the psychotic pathology. The goal of this study was to provide validity evidence about the French version of the FCQ. Swiss and French family members of individuals suffering from schizophrenia (n = 204) responded to the FCQ. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied estimating two models. The seven-factor model showed adequate fit to the data while the three-factor model fit was poor. This FCQ internal validation showed an adequate model fit with a French population including various family members (parents, siblings, etc.) of persons with enduring mental illness.

Abstract
Siblings of persons with schizophrenia are important in providing long-term social support to the patients. Interventions addressing their needs are very sparse. Hence, this study aimed at testing the short-term effects of brief need based psychoeducation on knowledge, self-stigma, and burden among siblings of persons with schizophrenia. In this prospective controlled open label trial, 80 siblings of persons with schizophrenia were allocated in equal numbers to the brief need based psychoeducation group and the treatment-as-usual group. The outcomes were measured at baseline, and after the first and third month post-intervention. RM-ANCOVA was conducted to test the effect of the brief psychoeducation on outcome scores. The groups were similar with respect to socio-demographic, clinical, and outcome scores at the baseline. There was a significant group×time interaction effect on knowledge (F=8.71; p<0.01; ηp2=0.14) and self-stigma scores (F=14.47; p<0.001; ηp2=0.21), wherein the brief psychoeducation group showed a significant increase in knowledge and reduction in self-stigma with medium effect size through baseline to the third month follow-up as compared to the treatment as usual group. We also observed a significant main effect of time; irrespective of the group allocation, there was a significant increase in the knowledge through baseline to third month follow-up (F=5.69; p=0.02; ηp2=0.09). No main or interaction effects of group and time were observed on burden. The findings suggest that brief need based psychoeducation may increase knowledge about the illness and reduce self-stigma. Further systematic studies are warranted to test this intervention for long-term effects.

Abstract
Background: The impact of first episode psychosis (FEP) upon parents’ experience of caregiving has been well-documented. However, the determinants and nature of this remain poorly understood in siblings. It is hypothesized that siblings of young people with FEP are also impacted by caregiving and burden. This study aimed to characterize the experience of caregiving for siblings of young people with FEP. Method: Survey methodology was used to explore the experience of 157 siblings in the first 18 months of their brother or sister’s treatment for FEP. Participants reported on their appraisal of the negative and positive aspects of caregiving as measured by the Experience of Caregiving Inventory (ECI). Descriptive statistics were used to establish the results for the total sample as well as for gender and birth order differences. A series of multivariate regression analyses were conducted to determine the relationships between illness characteristics and siblings’ experience of caregiving. Results: Older brothers reported the lowest scores for negative experiences in caregiving and younger sisters reported the highest. Negative experiences in caregiving resulted in less warmth within the sibling relationship and impacted negatively upon quality of life. When the young person with FEP had attempted suicide and/or been physically violent, siblings experienced more caregiver burden. Multivariate analysis showed that female gender was a significant factor in explaining the impact of illness related variables on the experience of caregiving. Conclusion: Suicide attempts and a history of violence resulted in higher caregiving burden for siblings regardless of whether they lived with the young person experiencing FEP or not. Female siblings are at higher risk of negative experiences from caregiving resulting in a reduced quality of life and a changed sibling relationship. Suicide attempts and violence are indicators for intensive case management to improve outcomes for the individual with FEP which may in turn reduce the burden experienced by the sibling. Clinicians can use these findings to identify siblings, assertively intervene and provide increased psychological support, psychoeducation and practical problem solving to reduce the burden. The caregiving role that they already play for their ill brother or sister should be recognized.

Abstract
Background Recruitment to clinical research studies can prove complex. This is particularly true of mental health research, given factors such as confidentiality, capacity and consent, or when attempting to recruit family members as opposed to service users themselves. Aim This study investigated the challenges experienced and strategies employed in the recruitment of siblings of people with first episode psychosis using Early Intervention in Psychosis Services (EIPS) in England. Methods As part of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of an e‐health intervention for siblings, we conducted a process evaluation study whereby semistructured interview was undertaken with clinical and research staff involved in recruitment of siblings. Data were analysed thematically. Results Twelve participants from six EIPS were interviewed. Data analysis revealed seven key themes: (i) limited comprehensive family data available; (ii) data governance and consent issues; (iii) organizational factors; (iv) convoluted recruitment methods; (v) concerns about service users' opinions; (vi) fluidity in siblings' needs and expectations; and (vii) strategies to enhance recruitment. Conclusions Recruitment challenges identified in this study concerned administrative, organizational, process and attitudinal issues. These are similar to other studies recruiting mental health service users as well as family members. Failure to recruit to target implies that studies are underpowered to detect potential statistically or clinically meaningful changes. Future studies should establish how best to enhance family inclusiveness in clinical practice and research.

Abstract
PURPOSE The wellbeing and caregiving experiences of family carers supporting people with psychosis has garnered increasing interest. Evidence indicates that the burden of caregiving can adversely impact on parents' wellbeing, few studies have investigated whether this is also the case for siblings, who often take on caregiving responsibilities. This exploratory study investigated the wellbeing, mental health knowledge, and appraisals of caregiving in siblings of individuals with psychosis. METHOD Using a cross-sectional design, 90 siblings completed three validated questionnaires: Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), Mental Health Knowledge Schedule (MAKS), and Experience of Caregiving Inventory (ECI). Data obtained were compared to general population norms and parent-carers' scores. Multi-variable regression analyses were conducted to examine relationships between questionnaire scores and demographic characteristics including age, sex, birth order, marital status, accommodation and educational level. RESULTS Siblings, especially sisters, had significantly poorer mental wellbeing, compared to normative scores. Conversely, they had better mental health knowledge. Siblings and parent-carers had comparable high levels of negative appraisals of caregiving experiences, but siblings reported more satisfaction with personal experiences and relationships. Education level was a significant predictor for better mental health knowledge; there were no other relationships between siblings' demographic factors and outcomes. CONCLUSION Study findings suggest that siblings have overlapping as well as distinct needs, compared to parent-carers. Further research is required to better understand siblings' experiences so as to inform development of targeted interventions that enhance wellbeing and caregiving capacity.

Abstract
There is a lack of studies on siblings of persons with schizophrenia (SOPS) in Asia. This study aims to explore the needs of SOPS in India. 15 SOPS participated in this qualitative explorative study. All the interviews were audio recorded and later transcribed. Data analysis was carried out using General Inductive Approach. Five themes emerged from the data: managing illness or socio-occupational functioning; follow up services; informational needs; personal needs; and miscellaneous needs. SOPS in India have some distinctive needs. Identifying these needs might help in developing and designing specific psychosocial interventions for better management.

Abstract
Research on caregivers of psychosis has predominantly focused on parents and spouses. Issues related to siblings of persons with psychosis (SOPP) are yet to be evaluated comprehensively. Like parents and spouses, SOPP also share the caregiver burden and have their own issues and needs. This systematic descriptive review aims to identify the types of needs of SOPP in the published literature and gives implications for further practice and research. The primary data search was carried out with predefined protocol in PubMed database and an additional hand search was done in EBSCOhost, ProQuest, Scopus, and PsychINFO. All the searches yielded a total of 862 titles. After screening for necessary inclusion criteria, seven studies were included in the final review. The results are discussed under six major themes that emerged from this review. Six out of seven studies highlighted the need for information on siblings' illness and participation in caregiver support group. Other important needs were illness management or rehabilitation needs; help in managing their own psychosocial issues; treatment related informational needs; and inclusion in treatment process. The socio-demographic details of these studies showed that majority of the participants were female siblings of Caucasian or white British ethnicity and from developed countries. SOPP predominantly have specific needs such as informational and support group needs, which are different in the priority of other primary caregiver needs. Paucity of literature from developing countries and the limitations of the existing studies warrant further systematic research.

Abstract
Several behavioral interventions, based on social enrichment and observational learning are applied in treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. However, the mechanism of such modulatory effect and the safety of applied methods on individuals involved in social support need further investigation. We took advantage of known differences between inbred mouse strains to reveal the effect of social enrichment on behavior and neurobiology of animals with different behavioral phenotypes. C57BL/6 and DBA/2 female mice displaying multiple differences in cognitive, social, and emotional behavior were group-housed either in same-strain or in mixed-strain conditions. Comprehensive behavioral phenotyping and analysis of expression of several plasticity- and stress-related genes were done to measure the reciprocal effects of social interaction between the strains. Contrary to our expectation, mixed housing did not change the behavior of DBA/2 mice. Nevertheless, the level of serum corticosterone and the expression of glucocorticoid receptor Nr3c1 in the brain were increased in mixed housed DBA/2 as compared with those of separately housed DBA/2 mice. In contrast, socially active C57BL/6 animals were more sensitive to the mixed housing, displaying several signs of stress: alterations in learning, social, and anxiety-like behavior and anhedonia. These behavioral impairments were accompanied by the elevated serum corticosterone and the reduced expression of Nr3c1, as well as the elevated Bdnf levels in the cortex and hippocampus. Our results demonstrate the importance of social factors in modulation of both behavior and the underlying neurobiological mechanisms in stress response, and draw attention to the potential negative impact of social interventions for individuals involved in social support.
