Abstract
BACKGROUND The context of practice is often not explicit in the discourse around the personal and professional resilience of nurses. The unique factors related to providing nursing care in home and community care may provide novel insight into the resilience of this health workforce. Therefore, this research addressed how nurses build and maintain resilience working in the home and community care sector. METHOD A qualitative study was conducted between November 2022 to August 2023 using 36 in-depth interviews (29 registered practical nurses [RPNs], five supervisors of RPNs, two family/care partners (FCPs) of clients receiving home and community care services). Analysis was consistent with a grounded theory approach including coding and comparative methods. RESULTS The factors of personal and professional resilience were not distinct but rather mixed together in the experience of nurses having resilience working in the home and community care sector. The process of building and maintaining resilience as home and community care nurses was informed by three categories: (1) The conditions of working in HCC; (2) The rapport RPNs held with FCPs; and (3) The nurses' ability for supporting the 'self'. Multiple components to inform these categories were identified and illustrated by the words of the nurse participants. CONCLUSION The process of building and maintaining resilience by RPNs working in the home and community care sector was guided by the day-to-day experiences of providing care for clients and the conditions of being a mobile health care provider. However, nurses may sense when they need to support their 'self' and must be empowered to request and receive support to do so.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The challenging work environments mental health nurses (MHNs) encounter can negatively impact their mental health, psychological well-being and physical health. While these impacts have been investigated in quantitative research, little is known about work-related stress from the perspective of MHNs. AIM To explore the stresses faced by nurses working in mental health settings and to gain an understanding of the underlying workplace context. METHOD A descriptive qualitative study with data collected via semi-structured individual telephone interviews conducted with n = 21 Western Australian MHNs. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS A total of 85 codes were generated that led to the identification of 13 subthemes and 4 main themes: (1) mental health nursing context, (2) work environment stressors, (3) factors that alleviate stress and (4) the impact of workplace stress. DISCUSSION Many of the stressors MHNs were exposed to are modifiable, such as understaffing and poor skill mix. Modifiable stressors increased risk for MHNs, impeded patient care and exacerbated inherent stressors such as patient acuity and complexity. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE This study collected data that provide rich descriptions of the experiences of MHNs and identify modifiable work-related stressors that could be alleviated through effective leadership and management.

Abstract
AIM To analyze toxic positivity and its relevance to nursing. DESIGN Concept analysis using Schatzman's dimensional analysis approach. DATA SOURCES Two searches were conducted using Google Scholar, JSTOR, ProQuest and CINAHL (1990-2023). Keywords included "toxic positivity" (Phase 1) and "emotional suppression," "unrealistic optimism"; "disingenuous happiness," "forced gratitude" and "logical fallacy" (Phase 2). Retained sources (1) were in English (Phases 1 and 2); (2) used 'toxic positivity' as a construct reflecting the purpose of analysis (Phase 1); and (3) demonstrated relevance towards analytical findings (Phase 2). Total analytic sources were 35. METHODS The analytic phase, identification, elucidated conceptual dimensions and contexts. The analytic phase, logistics, examined relationships among dimensions and contexts through an iterative process resulting in a dimensional matrix/conceptual model. RESULTS Salient dimension is Emotional Suppression with two sub-dimensions, Logical Fallacy and Forced Gratitude. Other dimensions include Unrealistic Optimism and Disingenuous Happiness. Contexts include intra- and post-paradigmatic societal shifts and intra- and post-traumatic experiences. Analysis reveals toxic positivity as an exchange between a giver and receiver with the receiver experiencing negative outcomes. CONCLUSION The concept appears consistent in its application and use across contexts and is emerging in nursing literature. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION Acknowledging toxic positivity in nursing may inform theoretical and future research related to improving nursing burnout, bolstering retention, and enhancing well-being. Nurses across work environments may encounter toxic positivity. Leaders should consider policy adoption and inclusion of trauma-informed practices. IMPACT Nursing workforce issues require deeper examination of potential contributing factors. Findings suggest toxic positivity may be encountered in work environments impacting nursing at individual and system levels. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION No patient or public contribution.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to assess the association between psychological reactions (e.g., stress, anxiety, and depression), resilience, and work engagement among Palestinian critical care nurses in the West Bank and examine the correlation of psychological reactions and resilience with work engagement. BACKGROUND Work engagement is associated with psychological reactions and resilience, particularly among critical care nurses. There is a lack of studies on work engagement and these factors in Palestine. METHODS A cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design was adopted. A convenience sample consisting of 273 critical care nurses from private and governmental hospitals was recruited to participate. Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-25 (CDRS-25), Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (UWES-9), and demographic data were used to collect data during the period from March 20 to May 20, 2023. RESULTS Findings demonstrated that 53.9% of the nurses reported mild-to-moderate levels of depression, 49.8% reported moderate-to-severe levels of anxiety, and 49.1% reported moderate-to-severe levels of stress. Additionally, 57.5% and 52.7% of them had low resilience and work engagement, respectively. Moreover, work engagement negatively correlated with depression (r = -0.796, P < 0.01), anxiety (r = -0.654, P < 0.01), and stress (r = -0.796, P < 0.01), while positively correlated with resilience (r = 0.42, P < 0.01) and gender (r = 0.121, P < 0.05). Depression, anxiety, stress, resilience, and gender were the main predictors of work engagement. DISCUSSION The majority of the nurses suffered from depression, anxiety, and stress. Additionally, more than half of the participants had low resilience and work engagement. Moreover, increased depression, anxiety, and stress were correlated with decreased work engagement, while high resilience and gender as being female positively correlated with high work engagement. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY Policymakers and hospital administrators should develop interventions to improve critical care nurses' resilience and minimize psychological reactions, which have a significant influence on work engagement. Future studies should be conducted to examine the effectiveness of these interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Resilience and self-efficacy play an influential role in nurses' clinical performance, which are considered resources for improving adaptability and promoting work engagement. This study aimed to determine the relationship between resilience and self-efficacy among nurses at Shahroud University of Medical Sciences hospitals during the post-Corona era. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted on 280 nurses in all clinical departments. Nurses with a bachelor of science in nursing or higher degree and at least one year of full-time work experience were included in the study using a convenience sampling method. Participants completed a three-part tool, which included the demographic information form, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the General Self-Efficacy Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential tests (multivariate linear regression using the backward method). RESULTS In this study, nurses reported low levels of resilience (63.64 ± 15.66) and high levels of self-efficacy (63.01 ± 9.57). Among the five resilience subscales, the highest mean item score was associated with "spiritual influences" (2.80 out of 4), while the lowest mean item score was associated with "trust in one's instincts and tolerance of negative affect" (2.36 out of 4). Furthermore, the multivariate linear regression model results indicated that self-efficacy accounted for 33.6% of the variance in resilience (P < 0.001 and β = 0.952). CONCLUSION According to the results of the present study, it is suggested that nurses' psychological capabilities, such as self-efficacy, should be increased to improve resilience and address the stressful conditions of the work environment.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore levels of Navigator resilience, well-being, burnout, and turnover intent. DESIGN A longitudinal, multi-methods study concurrently collected quantitative and qualitative data over three years. METHODS A survey and Action Learning Groups. FINDINGS No statistically significant change in resilience, well-being, burnout, or turnover intent. Supports, self-care and leaving the position, were used to maintain well-being. CONCLUSIONS While quantitative measures did not change, qualitative data demonstrated how adaptive coping mechanisms maintain well-being. Recommendations for nurses working in Navigator, or similar community/public health roles include work-based programs targeting support, good leadership, governance systems including their impact on turnover intent. CLINICAL EVIDENCE Job turnover intent can be used as a mechanism to monitor resilience and well-being.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to determine the influence of personal factors such as grit, calling, and resilience on nurses' retention intention in South Korean general hospitals. BACKGROUND The global shortage and high turnover rate of nurses have become significant concerns with no clear solutions for increasing retention. INTRODUCTION Determining the factors related to the f general hospital nurses and retention intention is important for solving the problem of inadequate nursing personnel and improving the quality of nursing services. METHODS This study was a descriptive survey of 221 nurses working at a general hospital in South Korea from July 2021 to February 2022. Data were collected using self-reported online questionnaires, with measurement tools focusing on grit, calling, resilience, and retention intention. The STROBE checklist was used for reporting this study. RESULTS The average retention intention score was 5.35 ± 1.52 out of 8 points. Significant correlations were found between retention intention and grit, calling, and resilience. The factors influencing retention intention were job satisfaction, calling, marital status, and total career length, explaining 31.9% of the variance. CONCLUSIONS To enhance nurses' intention to remain at general hospitals, their job satisfaction and sense of a calling should be improved. Further research should be conducted to identify factors that influence retention intention, particularly among groups with low job retention, with consideration of individual characteristics that might affect retention intention. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY Increasing nurses' retention intention would alleviate the nursing shortage, help hospitals retain competent nurses, reduce turnover-related costs, and improve organizational efficiency. Resolving the nursing shortage is critical for improving patient safety and nursing service quality at general hospitals.

Abstract
AIMS To investigate the mediating role of moral resilience and moral courage in the association between moral distress and moral injury. BACKGROUND There is a preponderance of nursing literature about moral distress, moral resilience, moral courage and moral injury. However, examining moral resilience and moral courage as mediators remain underreported during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the context of a developing nation. DESIGN Correlational, cross-sectional design compliant with the STROBE guidelines. METHODS A convenience sample of nurses (n = 412) from the Philippines were recruited using social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Messenger, Twitter). Four self-report and validated scales (8-item Moral-Distress Appraisal Scale, 21-item Nurses' Moral Courage Scale, 17-item Rushton Moral Resilience Scale and 10-item Moral Injury Symptom Scale: Healthcare Professionals Version) were used to collect data from January to July 2022. Pearson's r, bivariate analysis and multistage regression analyses were used for data analysis. RESULTS This study afforded a model that depicted the interrelationships of moral distress, moral resilience, moral courage and moral injury. Moral distress has a negative impact on moral resilience and moral courage while positively affecting moral injury. Moral resilience positively influences moral courage while having a negative impact on moral injury. Moral courage has an indirect impact on moral injury. Finally, moral resilience and moral courage demonstrated a mediating effect between moral distress and moral injury. CONCLUSIONS Healthcare organizations, policymakers and nurse managers should include policies and programs that include improving approaches to modifying workplace conditions and evaluating nurses' moral resilience and courage. Nurse managers need to advocate ethics education and professionalism. Nurses must practice self-care strategies to strengthen morally resilient and courageous therapeutic practices.

Abstract
Mental health nursing work is challenging, and workplace stress can have negative impacts on nurses' well-being and practice. Resilience is a dynamic process of positive adaptation and recovery from adversity. The aims of this integrative review were to examine and update understandings and perspectives on resilience in mental health nursing research, and to explore and synthesize the state of empirical knowledge on mental health nurse resilience. This is an update of evidence from a previous review published in 2019. Using integrative review methodology, 15 articles were identified from a systematic search (July 2018-June 2022). Data were extracted, analysed with constant comparison method, synthesized narratively and then compared with the findings from the original review. As an update of evidence, mental health nurse resilience was moderate to high across studies, was positively associated with psychological well-being, post-traumatic growth, compassion satisfaction and negatively associated with burnout, mental distress and emotional labour. Lack of support and resources from organizations could negatively impact nurses' ability to maintain resilience and manage workplace challenges through internal self-regulatory processes. A resilience programme improved mental health nurses' awareness of personal resilience levels, self-confidence, capacity to develop coping skills and professional relationships. Some studies continue to lack contemporary conceptualizations of resilience, and methodological quality varied from high to low. Further qualitative and interventional research is needed to investigate the role of resilience in mental health nursing practice, personal well-being, workforce sustainability and the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High resilience increases nurses' ability to cope with job-related stressors and enhances job satisfaction and, consequently, their retention. The study aims to identify resilience predictors and perceptions of transformational leadership in a convenience sample of registered nurses in Lebanon. METHODS An anonymous cross-sectional survey of a convenience sample of 240 registered nurses working for more than a year at three private hospitals in an underserved area in South Lebanon was used. The survey instrument included demographic questions, the True Resilience Scale ©, and the Global Transformational Leadership Scale. Multiple linear regression was used to assess the predictors of resilience after a descriptive analysis of the study variables. RESULTS The survey response rate was 85%. The nurses' mean resilience score was 119.4 (SD 15.3), and their perception of transformational leadership score was M = 25.0, SD = 6.8. Compared to bedside nurses, nurse managers, nurses with more than five years of experience, and nurses in critical nursing units had statistically significant higher resilience scores (p < 0.05). Resilience scores and perception of global transformational leadership were moderately correlated (r = 0.53, p < 0.05). In the final multiple linear regression model, 30% of the variation in resilience scores was explained by designation (p < 0.05) and perception of Global Transformational Leadership (p < 0.01). Perception of global transformational leadership scores explained 29% of the variance in resilience scores. Designation and perception of global transformational leadership predicted resilience in this sample. CONCLUSIONS A national survey of the Lebanese nursing workforce is needed to achieve an improved predictive model and support policy developments to increase resilience among bedside nurses and retain them in the nursing workforce. Nurse administrators can help by strengthening their transformational leadership behaviors. Consistent use of transformational leadership styles will strengthen bedside nurses' resilience, increase nurse retention, and help sustain the Lebanese nursing workforce.
