Abstract
The selective deprotection of several N-Bn amino derivatives to the corresponding amines and the removal of S-Bn and O-Bn groups from the protected amino acids with ammonium formate and magnesium is reported.

Abstract
L-[1.2-13C2, 15N]Serine was prepared from [1,2-13C2, 15N]glycine on a gram scale by the use of the enzyme serine hydroxymethyltransferase. The reaction was monitored by 13C-NMR spectroscopy. This is the first simultaneously 13C- and 15N-labelled serine isotopomer so far reported. Part of the product was directly converted by tryptophan synthase to L-[1,2-13C2, 15N]tryptophan which could conveniently be purified and isolated as Boc-derivative in a yield of 71%. Most of the serine was isolated similarly but to remove remaining starting material in this case purification by column chromatography was required.

Abstract
(Phe5, delta Ala6)-LH-RH and des-Gly10(Phe5, delta Ala6)-LH-RH ethylamide, two analogues of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH), have been synthesised using fragment condensation approach in solution phase with minimum protection of the side chains. The presence of dehydroalanine in peptide fragments was confirmed by 1H n.m.r. and chemical analysis. Both the analogues were found to be inactive in comparison to LH-RH, indicating that alpha,beta-dehydrogenation of alanine in 6th position is not tolerated and suggesting that flexibility at this position may be crucial for the retention of biological activity.
