Abstract
Background and Purpose: The purpose of this article is to document the development and validation process of an instrument adapted for French-speaking nurses and to measure the occurrence of omitted nursing care (ONC) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: An electronic Delphi panel, involving ICU nursing experts from the province of Quebec (Canada), was used to develop the intensive care unit omitted nursing care (ICU-ONC) instrument. For the validation process, an electronic cross-sectional survey was conducted. Results: A total of 564 nurses participated in the validation study. Exploratory factor analysis performed on 478 complete observations supports the presence of a single-factor structure for the 22-item ICU-ONC instrument. Coefficient alpha for the scale was .93, 95% confidence interval (CI) was [0.92, 0.94], item-partial total correlations ranged from .49 and .68, and the mean/median interitem correlations were .38 and .37, respectively. Moderate negative correlations were found between the ICU-ONC instrument overall score and two related constructs: nurses' perception of the quality as well as the safety of care. Conclusions: Our current understanding of ONC in the ICU is based on the results drawn from the administration of generic instruments to ICU nurses. The novel 22-item ICU-ONC instrument can help better estimate the occurrence of the phenomena in the ICU.

Abstract
Background and Purpose: Electronic surveys are an essential data collection method in survey research but there are pros and cons. The purpose of this literature review was to understand the advantages and disadvantages of electronic surveys in research. Methods: An integrated literature review was performed. Results: Twenty publications met the criteria and were analyzed. The advantages of electronic surveys include speed, cost, convenience, flexibility, ease of analyses, global reach, reduced errors, and question diversity. The disadvantages of electronic surveys are response outcomes (nonresponse, item-nonresponse/poor completion rates, and careless responding errors) and digital literacy requirements. Conclusions: The advantages of electronic surveys outweigh their disadvantages, but researchers must understand the problems associated with electronic surveys and avoid them.

Abstract
PURPOSE Conservative management of lumbar radiculopathy (LR) is the first treatment option. To date, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines have not considered the most appropriate timing of management. This study aimed to establish consensus on effective conservative treatment modalities across different stages (i.e., acute, sub-acute, or chronic) of LR. MATERIALS AND METHODS Through an iterative multistage Delphi process, experts rated agreement with proposed treatment modalities across stages of LR and could suggest additional treatment modalities. The agreement was measured using a 5-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistics were used to measure agreement (median, interquartile ranges, and percentage of agreement). Consensus criteria were defined a priori for each round. RESULTS Fourteen panelists produced a consensus list of effective treatment modalities across stages of LR. Acute stage management should focus on providing patients with information about the condition including pain education, individualized physical activity, and directional preference exercises, supported with NSAIDs. In the sub-acute stage, strength training and neurodynamic mobilization could be added and transforaminal/epidural injections considered. In the chronic stage, spinal manipulative therapy, specific exercise, and function-specific physical training should be combined with individualized vocational, ergonomic and postural advice. CONCLUSIONS Experts agree effectiveness of interventions differs through the evolution of LR.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTo date clinical guideline for conservative management of lumbar radiculopathy do not consider the evolution of the condition.Acute stage management of lumbar radiculopathy should focus on providing information about the condition and support individualized physical activity with pain medication.Sub-acute management should add neurodynamic mobilization to strength training, while transforaminal and/or epidural injections could be considered.Chronic stage management should consider spinal manipulative therapy and focus on restoring personalized functional capacity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pulmonary complications of blood transfusion, including transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO), and transfusion-associated dyspnea, are generally underdiagnosed and under-reported. The international TRALI and TACO definitions have recently been updated. Currently, no standardized pulmonary transfusion reaction reporting form exists and most of the hemovigilance forms have not yet incorporated the updated definitions. We developed a harmonized reporting form, aimed at improved data collection on pulmonary transfusion reactions for hemovigilance and research purposes by developing a standardized model reporting form and flowchart. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using a modified Delphi method among an international, multidisciplinary panel of 24 hemovigilance experts, detailed recommendations were developed for a standardized model reporting form for pulmonary complications of blood transfusion. Two Delphi rounds, including scoring systems, took place and several subsequent meetings were held to discuss issues and obtain consensus. Additionally, a flowchart was developed incorporating recently published redefinitions of pulmonary transfusion reactions. RESULTS In total, 17 participants completed the first questionnaire (70.8% response rate) and 14 participants completed the second questionnaire (58.3% response rate). According to the results from the questionnaires, the standardized model reporting form was divided into various subcategories: general information, patient history and transfusion characteristics, reaction details, investigations, treatment and supportive care, narrative, and transfused product. CONCLUSION In this article, we present the recommendations from a global group of experts in the hemovigilance field. The standardized model reporting form and flowchart provide an initiative that may improve data collected to address pulmonary transfusion reactions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Participatory implementation methods are needed in geriatric health care to improve care and services for a growing population of older adults. We describe an efficient participatory approach to improve uptake of Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) Connect, a national geriatrics outpatient consultation service using telehealth technology to connect geriatric specialists to rural, older veterans though community-based clinics. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We designed a three-phase participatory method to identify high-priority implementation strategies to support the uptake of GRECC Connect. We used the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research-Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (CFIR-ERIC) Strategy Matching Tool to derive expert-recommended implementation strategies informed by qualitative interviews with both GRECC Connect staff and clinicians at community-based clinics. We engaged expert panelists in a participatory two-step modified e-Delphi process using confidential surveys and discussion to prioritize strategies nationally. RESULTS Qualitative interviews revealed barriers, facilitators, and recommendations for program uptake. Many strategies recommended by CFIR-ERIC addressed multiple barriers but needed to be tailored to our specific context. In our two-step e-Delphi process, expert panelists shared previous experience with the strategies presented, views on the importance and feasibility of each, and arrived at a consensus about which strategies to prioritize nationally. DISCUSSION AND IMPLICATIONS We demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of engaging subject matter experts to identify strategies to be tested on a national level. Future considerations include weighting of survey responses, accounting for regional differences, and sensitivity of Likert scales used in the e-Delphi process.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Conservative management of cervical radiculopathy (CR) is a first treatment option because the risk-benefit ratio for surgery is less favorable. Systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines reporting on the effectiveness of nonsurgical management have not considered the timing of management. The aim of this study was to establish consensus on effective nonsurgical treatment modalities at different stages (ie, acute, subacute, or chronic) of CR using the Delphi method approach. METHODS Through an iterative multistage process, experts within the field rated their agreement with a list of proposed treatment modalities according to the stage of CR and could suggest missing treatment modalities. Agreement was measured using a 5-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistics were used to measure agreement (median, interquartile ranges, and percentage of agreement). Consensus criteria were defined a priori for each round. Consensus for Round 3 was based on ≥2 of the following: a median Likert scale value of ≥4, interquartile range value of ≤1, and/or a percentage of agreement ≥70%. RESULTS Data analysis produced a consensus list of effective treatment modalities in different stages of recovery. CONCLUSION According to experts, the focus of multimodal management in the acute stage should consist of patient education and spinal manipulative therapy, specific (foraminal opening) exercises, and sustained pain-relieving positions. In the subacute stage, increasing individualized physical activity including supervised motor control, specific exercises, and/or neurodynamic mobilization could be added. In the chronic stage, focus should shift to include general aerobic exercise as well as focused strength training. Postural education and vocational ergonomic assessment should also be considered. IMPACT Multimodal conservative management of individuals with CR should take the stage of the condition into consideration. The focus of therapeutic interventions should shift from passive pain-relieving intervention in the acute stage to increasingly more individualized physical activity and self-management in the chronic stage.

Abstract
Intellectual disability (ID) persists from birth through adulthood and aging. Thus, the support provided to individuals with intellectual disabilities (IwID) in adulthood is essential to increase their self-determination and quality of life. This research aimed to determine how IwID may receive support for education, working life, accommodation, and leisure in adulthood in the Turkish context by increasing their and their families' quality of life without socially discriminating against them. Qualitative data were collected in two stages, combining semi-structured interviews and the Delphi study technique. Results prompted the recommendation that a legal basis for transition-to-adulthood planning be established in Turkey for a functional adult service model. Next, a model with specific standards by which multidisciplinary experts analyse education, work, leisure, and housing alternatives for preadulthood and adulthood should be developed and coordinated by the Turkish Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Family. Implications for the future are further discussed.

Abstract
The youth mental health sector is persistently challenged by issues such as service fragmentation and inefficient resource allocation. Systems modelling and simulation, particularly utilizing participatory approaches, is offering promise in supporting evidence-informed decision making with limited resources by testing alternative strategies in safe virtual environments before implementing them in the real world. However, improved evaluation efforts are needed to understand the critical elements involved in and to improve methods for implementing participatory modelling for youth mental health system and service delivery. An evaluation protocol is described to evaluate the feasibility, value, impact, and sustainability of participatory systems modelling in delivering advanced decision support capabilities for youth mental health. This study applies a comprehensive multi-scale evaluation framework, drawing on participatory action research principles as well as formative, summative, process, and outcome evaluation techniques. Novel data collection procedures are presented, including online surveys that incorporate gamification to enable social network analysis and patient journey mapping. The evaluation approach also explores the experiences of diverse stakeholders, including young people with lived (or living) experience of mental illness. Social and technical opportunities will be uncovered, as well as challenges implementing these interdisciplinary methods in complex settings to improve youth mental health policy, planning, and outcomes. This study protocol can also be adapted for broader international applications, disciplines, and contexts.

Abstract
Regular physical activity can increase joint stability and function, reduce the risk of injury, and improve quality of life of people with haemophilia (PwH). However, a recent review of the literature shows that appropriate physical activity and sport are not always promoted enough in the overall management of PwH. A group of Italian experts in haemophilia care undertook a consensus procedure to provide practical guidance on when and how to recommend physical exercise programmes to PwH in clinical practice. Three main topics were identified -haemophilia and its impact on movement, physical activity recommendations for PwH, and choice and management of sports activity in PwH- and ten statements were formulated. A modified Delphi approach was used to reach a consensus. The group also created practical tools proposing different physical activities and frequencies for different age groups, the Movement Pyramids, to be shared and discussed with patients and caregivers. In conclusion, in the opinion of the working group, physical activity can be considered as a low-price intervention that can prevent/reduce the occurrence of chronic diseases and should be further encouraged in PwH to obtain multiple physical and psychological benefits. Future research should include prospective studies focusing on participation in sports, specific risk exposure and clinical outcomes.

AIMS The management of cardiovascular patients requires increasingly competent nursing professionals. In Italy, there are no specific postgraduate courses focused on specialist cardiac skills development for nurses. To develop such courses, content incorporating appropriate competencies is required and this study was designed to meet this. To delineate a set of core competencies to develop national educational interventions to ensure cardiac nurses in Italy achieve international standards. METHODS AND RESULTS A three-round e-Delphi study including a panel of 32 expert cardiac nurses from the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy was conducted; 26 respondents completed all three rounds. The first round sought a list of five competencies from each participant which they were asked to prioritize in Round 2. In Round 3, they were asked to prioritize again with the knowledge of the priorities identified in Round 2. The final list of competencies was those achieving 70% agreement among participants. We identified 14 core competencies spanning a range of areas of competence including technical, interpersonal, health promotion, use of evidence, and management. Only minor differences were evident between the Italian and the international panel regarding the priority given to some core competences, such a leadership and taking patient history. CONCLUSION This is the first study in Italy to delineate cardiac nurses' core competencies. As such, it provides a foundation for the development of postgraduate educational programmes for cardiac nurses including competencies that are congruent with international standards.

Abstract
There are no internationally recognized criteria available to determine preparedness for hospital discharge after esophagectomy. This study aims to achieve international consensus using Delphi methodology. The expert panel consisted of 40 esophageal surgeons spanning 16 countries and 4 continents. During a 3-round, web-based Delphi process, experts voted for discharge criteria using 5-point Likert scales. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Consensus was reached if agreement was ≥75% in round 3. Consensus was achieved for the following basic criteria: nutritional requirements are met by oral intake of at least liquids with optional supplementary nutrition via jejunal feeding tube. The patient should have passed flatus and does not require oxygen during mobilization or at rest. Central venous catheters should be removed. Adequate analgesia at rest and during mobilization is achieved using both oral opioid and non-opioid analgesics. All vital signs should be normal unless abnormal preoperatively. Inflammatory parameters should be trending down and close to normal (leucocyte count ≤12G/l and C-reactive protein ≤80 mg/dl). This multinational Delphi survey represents the first expert-led process for consensus criteria to determine 'fit-for-discharge' status after esophagectomy. Results of this Delphi survey may be applied to clinical outcomes research as an objective measure of short-term recovery. Furthermore, standardized endpoints identified through this process may be used in clinical practice to guide decisions regarding patient discharge and may help to reduce the risk of premature discharge or prolonged admission.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cervical radiculopathy (CR) is a clinical condition whereby motor, reflex and/or sensory changes such as radicular pain, paraesthaesia or numbness can exist. Conservative management is a preferred first treatment option as the risk-benefit ratio for surgery is less favourable. Systematic reviews and treatment guidelines gather evidence on the effectiveness of non-surgical management of patients with CR from randomised controlled trials, which do not consider the natural course of recovery to modify the management strategy accordingly. The aim of this study is to establish consensus on effective non-surgical treatment modalities for patients in different stages (acute, subacute and chronic) of CR, using the Delphi method approach. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Through an iterative multistage process, experts within the field will rate their agreement with a list of proposed treatment modalities and suggest any missing treatment modalities during each round. Agreement will be measured using a five-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistics will be used to measure agreement (median, IQR and percentage of agreement). Consensus criteria will be defined a priori for each round. Data analysis at the end of round three will produce a consensus list of effective treatment modalities for the management of patients with CR in different stages of recovery. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval has been granted from the University of Birmingham ethics committee under ERN_20-1121. The study findings will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal and to relevant conferences for dissemination of the study results.

Abstract
AIM To achieve profession-wide consensus on clinical practice standards for six broad Australian nurse practitioner specialty areas (termed metaspecialties). DESIGN Sequential mixed methods with initial interpretive study (Interpretive Phase) followed by modified three-round Delphi study (Survey Phase). METHODS Participants from all Australian jurisdictions were recruited. Main eligibility criterion was current endorsement as a nurse practitioner for 12 or more months. Interpretive Phase comprised in-depth interviews of purposeful sample of nurse practitioners to identify clinical care activities and practice processes. Six sets of draft clinical practice standards relevant to six previously identified metaspecialties were developed. Outcome informed Round 1 of Survey Phase (six nested web-based Delphi surveys), with draft standards reviewed profession-wide. Responses comprised scoring using Likert scales to calculate content validity indexes for individual standards with qualitative responses supporting decision-making. For Rounds 2 and 3, participants rated relevancy of original or revised standards after consideration of individual and group feedback. The study was conducted 2014-2017. RESULTS Interpretive Phase: Analysis of interview data with 16 nurse practitioners provided 75 draft standards. Survey Phase: 221 nurse practitioners completed Round 1 (20% of then eligible Australian nurse practitioners). Weighted respondent retention was 92%. Seventy-three standards were validated, with final content validity indices of 92-100%. Scale-level indices were 98%, strongly validating metaspecialty taxonomy. CONCLUSION A research-derived, professionally endorsed suite of nurse practitioner clinical practice standards was developed. This provides a broad clinical learning structure with metaspecialties guiding nurse practitioner student clinical education. IMPACT The clinical practice standards and metaspecialty taxonomy strengthen nurse practitioner clinical education and professional development nationally and internationally. These novel study methods and findings are applicable to advanced specialty roles in other health professions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Paradata are (timestamped) records tracking the process of (electronic) data collection. We analysed paradata from a large household survey of questions capturing pregnancy outcomes to assess performance (timing and correction processes). We examined how paradata can be used to inform and improve questionnaire design and survey implementation in nationally representative household surveys, the major source for maternal and newborn health data worldwide. METHODS The EN-INDEPTH cross-sectional population-based survey of women of reproductive age in five Health and Demographic Surveillance System sites (in Bangladesh, Guinea-Bissau, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Uganda) randomly compared two modules to capture pregnancy outcomes: full pregnancy history (FPH) and the standard DHS-7 full birth history (FBH+). We used paradata related to answers recorded on tablets using the Survey Solutions platform. We evaluated the difference in paradata entries between the two reproductive modules and assessed which question characteristics (type, nature, structure) affect answer correction rates, using regression analyses. We also proposed and tested a new classification of answer correction types. RESULTS We analysed 3.6 million timestamped entries from 65,768 interviews. 83.7% of all interviews had at least one corrected answer to a question. Of 3.3 million analysed questions, 7.5% had at least one correction. Among corrected questions, the median number of corrections was one, regardless of question characteristics. We classified answer corrections into eight types (no correction, impulsive, flat (simple), zigzag, flat zigzag, missing after correction, missing after flat (zigzag) correction, missing/incomplete). 84.6% of all corrections were judged not to be problematic with a flat (simple) mistake correction. Question characteristics were important predictors of probability to make answer corrections, even after adjusting for respondent's characteristics and location, with interviewer clustering accounted as a fixed effect. Answer correction patterns and types were similar between FPH and FBH+, as well as the overall response duration. Avoiding corrections has the potential to reduce interview duration and reproductive module completion by 0.4 min. CONCLUSIONS The use of questionnaire paradata has the potential to improve measurement and the resultant quality of electronic data. Identifying sections or specific questions with multiple corrections sheds light on typically hidden challenges in the survey's content, process, and administration, allowing for earlier real-time intervention (e.g.,, questionnaire content revision or additional staff training). Given the size and complexity of paradata, additional time, data management, and programming skills are required to realise its potential.

Abstract
AbstractMany studies have investigated the effectiveness of school-based ADHD interventions at modifying different social, emotional and behavioural target outcomes. However, there is a lack of evidence about which targets stakeholders perceive to be most important. This study sought to obtain consensus on which outcomes are perceived to be most important. A total of 114 people with ADHD, educational professionals, parents of children with ADHD, clinicians and researchers participated in a Delphi survey with 3 rounds. The importance of 52 intervention targets was rated on a scale from 0 to 8 (8 being extremely important). Consensus was reached if >70% of a stakeholder group rated a target as between 6–8 and <15% rated it as 0–2. Targets were dropped from subsequent rounds if more than 50% of stakeholder groups rated it as 0–5. Targets that all four stakeholder groups reached consensus on in any round were automatically included in our final outcome set. Comments were analysed using Thematic Analysis. All four stakeholder groups reached consensus on the importance of seven targets: ability to pay attention, conflict with teachers and peers, executive functioning, global functioning and quality of life, inattention symptoms, organisation skills and self-esteem. Four overarching themes were identified: Complexity of ADHD, Relationships, School Context, and What ADHD means to me. School-based ADHD interventions should target outcomes identified as most important to those who stand to benefit from such interventions. Some outcomes prioritised by our participants have not yet been targeted in school-based ADHD interventions. Implications of our findings for intervention and research design are discussed.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study reports on the development of an outcome measure designed to evaluate pre-registration physiotherapy students' ability in performing core cardiorespiratory skills. METHOD A four round, e- Delphi study using an international panel of expert cardiorespiratory physiotherapists involved in pre-registration student education was undertaken. In round one participants identified what they look for in students competently performing core cardio-respiratory physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills. These items were refined in rounds two and three. Item content validity score (iCVI) of ≥ 0.8 at round four identified consensus. Scale content validity index (SCVI) was calculated. RESULTS Response rate for round one was 46% (6/13). Additional experts were invited to participate and response rates increased to 71% (round 2), 88% (round 3) and 100% (round 4). Of the 207 items across the seven skills identified in round one, 140 were presented in round four. Of these, consensus was achieved for 128 items, with 12 being excluded. The SCVI was 0.907. CONCLUSION This e-Delphi study enabled the development of a draft outcome measure, which aims to assess performance of seven cardiorespiratory physiotherapy skills. This tool will enable rigorous evaluation of different education methods to establish their effectiveness. However, it is first necessary to establish construct validity and assess inter and intra-rater reliability.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease with increasing global incidence, which has a multifactorial pathogenesis and a variable expressivity. Clinical features of AD are different in adults compared to children, but it is well recognized the substantial impact of the disease on patients' quality of life at any age. Indeed, little is known about AD in adolescence, a period of life generally associated with high psychological burden and vulnerability to depression. Guidelines for the management of AD are available for both children and adults but specific guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of AD in adolescents are lacking. Seven Italian scientific societies of dermatologists, allergists, and pediatric allergists joined in a specific meeting to provide practical guidance for the diagnosis and management of moderate-to-severe adolescent AD suitable for the Italian clinical practice. Through a modified Delphi procedure, consensus was reached by 59 Italian experts in the management of AD on 20 statements covering five areas of interest about adolescent AD, including disease complexity, burden and social impact, diagnosis and definition of severity, current treatments, and new biologic therapies. This paper reports recommendations for the diagnosis and management of AD specifically in adolescents, pointing out some peculiar clinical features and focusing on the choice of medications. Dupilumab, the first biologic approved for the treatment of adolescents with AD, represents a useful treatment option due to its efficacy and reassuring safety profile.

Abstract
Health system planners in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) of the Asia-Pacific region seeking to reorient primary health care (PHC) systems to achieve universal health coverage may be hindered by lack of knowledge of what works in their setting. With limited resources for research available, it is important to identify evidence-based strategies for reorganising PHC delivery, determine where relevant evidence gaps exist and prioritise these for future study. This paper describes an approach for doing this using the best available evidence combined with consultation to establish evidence priorities. We first reviewed PHC organisational interventions in Asia-Pacific LMICs and ascertained evidence gaps. The largest gaps related to interventions to promote access to essential medicines, patient management tools, effective health promotion strategies and service planning and accountability. Evidence from Pacific Island countries was particularly scant. We then engaged an expert panel of 22 PHC stakeholders from seven Asia-Pacific LMICs in a Delphi exercise to identify priority questions for future research. Research priorities were: (1) identifying effective PHC service delivery models for chronic diseases; (2) devising sustainable models of disease integration; (3) optimising task shifting; (4) understanding barriers to care continuity; (5) projecting future PHC needs; and (6) designing appropriate PHC service packages. Notably, stakeholder-determined priorities reflected large, context-dependent system issues, while evidence gaps centred on discrete interventions. Future research on the organisation of PHC services in Asia-Pacific LMICs should incorporate codesign principles to engage researchers and national PHC system stakeholders, and innovative methods that build on existing evidence and account for system complexity.

Abstract
Background The aim of this global collaboration was to develop a consensual set of items for the analysis of synovial biopsies in clinical practice and translational research through the EULAR Synovitis Study Group (ESSG) and OMERACT Synovial Tissue Biopsy Group. Methods Participants were consulted through a modified Delphi method. Three sequential rounds occurred over 12 months. Members were sent a written questionnaire containing items divided into two parts. Items were identified and formulated based on a scoping review. The first part of the questionnaire referred to synovial biopsies in clinical practice including five subsections, and the second part to translational research with six subsections. Every participant was asked to score each item on a 5-point Likert scale. Items with a median score above 3.5 and a ≥ 70% agreement were selected for the next round. The last round was conducted orally at EULAR in June 2017. Results Twenty-seven participants from 19 centers were contacted by email. Twenty participants from 17 centers answered. Response rates for next rounds were 100%. For the first part relating to clinical practice, 20/44 items (45.5%) were selected. For the second part relating to translational research, 18/43 items (41.9%) were selected for the final set. Conclusions We herein propose a consensual set of analysis items to be used for synovial biopsies conducted in clinical practice and translational research. Abstract
AIM To develop a critical thinking assessment tool for Australian undergraduate nurses. BACKGROUND Critical thinking is an important skill but difficult to assess in nursing practice. There are often many responses a nurse can make to a clinical problem or situation. Some responses are more correct than others and these decisions have an impact on a patient's care and safety. Differences in a response can relate to the depth of knowledge, experience and critical thinking ability of the individual nurse. DESIGN This study used a Delphi process to develop five clinical case studies together with the most appropriate clinical responses to 25 clinical questions. METHOD The Delphi technique was undertaken using the Qualtrics survey tool between October 2016-January 2017. A panel of 13 nursing experts from various geographical locations in Australia participated in the study to review the case scenarios and answers to questions posed. Four rounds of participation were required to achieve a minimum of 80% agreement between participants. Participants were asked to rank answers for 25 multi-choice questions based on the correct nursing management of case scenarios provided and provide feedback as to the accuracy and relevance of the scenarios and answers. RESULTS Four rounds of Delphi questions were required to reach consensus on the correct wording and answers for the scenarios. Five case studies have been developed with nursing responses to patient management in rank order from most correct to least correct. CONCLUSION Use of the tool should provide confidence that a nurse has met a certain level of critical thinking ability.
