Abstract
This systematic literature review examines the evidence base on the effectiveness of online programmes on the mental health and well-being of family carers of people with intellectual disabilities. Databases (ERIC, Medline, PsycINFO and CINAHL) were searched for intervention studies that considered online interventions for family carers of people with intellectual disabilities. Data were extracted using standardised data extraction tools. Bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomised trials (RoB 2). Screening, extraction and assessment of bias were completed independently by two members of the research team. Given the low number of included studies and different outcomes assessed within them, it was not possible to conduct a meta-analysis; therefore, data are presented narratively. Two studies met the criteria to be included in the review. Both studies utilised a feasibility randomised controlled trial methodology. One study found a significant decrease in parental stress, while the other found a significant increase in psychological well-being. Caution must be taken in drawing firm conclusions, given the small sample sizes and low retention rates in both studies. Online programmes seem to offer potential benefits to family carers of people with intellectual disabilities. However, further investigation is needed to examine these programmes, adopting a collaborative approach with family carers.

Abstract
Background Parents and carers supporting a family member presenting with behaviors of concern experience heightened stress. The Low Arousal Approach is a crisis management strategy which recognizes that stress, or physiological arousal, can be expressed through behaviors of concern. This approach aims to equip parents and carers to manage behaviors in a person-centered and non-confrontational way. There is a paucity of published research exploring the experiences of families applying this approach. Methods Seventeen parents who had received training in the Low Arousal Approach were interviewed to gain their perspectives on supporting their family members using this approach. Results Thematic analysis revealed themes relating to parental stress, which was related to external pressures, isolation, family stress, and challenges in their caring role. They described encountering negative narratives relating to self-criticism and negative judgments from others. Training in the Low Arousal Approach was related to being empowered through access to evidence, increased confidence, and increased ability to advocate for their family member's needs. Low Arousal was described as a "lifestyle" that enabled increased coping for the family unit as a whole. Discussion/conclusion Findings indicate that it is vitally important to recognize the views of parents and carers, and these are equally as important as the views of professionals. We must understand parents' and carers' needs in order to provide adequate support.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rett syndrome (RTT) causes multiple disabilities with a lifelong need for substantial care, placing a tremendous lifelong responsibility on the parents. Parenting an individual with RTT can therefore be challenging. Research on the psychological aspects of parenting individuals with RTT is limited and unclear. We aimed to identify and map the existing literature on this subject. METHOD A scoping review was conducted with systematic searches in PubMed, PsycINFO and CINAHL. RESULTS Eighteen studies were included. Negative and positive psychological aspects were described with the majority focusing on the negative. Three factors seemed to especially affect the parents: severity of the diagnosis, time (increasing age of parents or individual with RTT; years of caretaking), work-status of the mother. CONCLUSIONS Seemingly, parents are highly affected; however, the literature is scarce and has several gaps. Future research should include older parents, fathers, parents of individuals living in group homes, and positive aspects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Family-systems interventions have been proposed as one way of supporting families of people with an intellectual disability (ID) or who are autistic. This systematic review aimed to summarise what family-systems interventions have been studied with this population, what evidence there is for their effectiveness and families' experiences of the interventions. METHODS The review was preregistered on PROSPERO (CRD42022297516). We searched five electronic databases, identified 6908 records and screened 72 full texts. Study quality was evaluated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool, and a narrative synthesis was used. RESULTS We identified 13 eligible articles with 292 participating families. Most studies reported positive effects of the interventions on wellbeing and family relationships, and families reported positive experiences. However, research quality was poor and there are no any sufficiently powered randomised controlled trials demonstrating family-systems interventions' effectiveness for this population. CONCLUSIONS There is a need for higher-quality research to establish whether family-systems interventions are beneficial for families of people who have an ID or who are autistic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The number of children in special education schools has increased in Japan. This study aimed to examine the association between special education school enrollment and the health and social relationships of mothers with children in these schools using population-based samples in Japan. METHODS AND PROCEDURES This study used data from the Kochi Child Health Impact of Living Difficulty (K-CHILD) study in 2016. First, fifth, eighth, and eleventh-grade children in all schools in Kochi prefecture were included (n = 12,623). Associations between school type (regular or special education school) and maternal physical and mental health and social relationships were investigated by multivariate regression models. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS There were 134 children in special education schools (1.1 %) and 12,489 children in regular schools. Mothers of children in special education schools were more likely to have higher body mass index (BMI), poorer mental health and lower neighborhood relations score. Mothers of children in regular schools had higher BMI when their children had higher behavioral problems. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS Mothers of children in special education schools are at risk of obesity, poor mental health, and having fewer social networks. Services and support should be expanded for caregivers based on their child's behavioral problems and school system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted family caregivers of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This study evaluated a virtual course for family caregivers from across Canada, focused on supporting the mental health and well-being of adults with IDD and their families. The evaluation examined the feasibility and acceptability of the course, as well as the impact of the intervention on participants' overall health and well-being. METHODS The 6-week virtual course, informed by a parallel Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) course for service providers, combined didactic instruction with applied activities. A total of 126 family caregiver course participants consented to be part of the research evaluation delivered over three cycles between October 2020 and April 2021. Attendance was measured at each weekly session. Satisfaction was assessed weekly and post-program. Learning, self-efficacy, and well-being were assessed pre- and post-course, and again at follow-up (8 weeks post-course). Mixed-effects models assessed changes between and within individuals across time. RESULTS Participants had consistent attendance, low-dropout rates, and reported high satisfaction, with 93% of participants reporting that their expectations for the course were met. Compared with pre-course, participants reported improved self-efficacy and well-being post-course, which were maintained at follow-up. CONCLUSIONS An interactive and applied virtual education course delivered to a large group of family caregivers of adults with IDD was both feasible and acceptable. It positively impacted participants' well-being by offering much needed mental health support and creating a peer-led community of practice.
