Abstract
Gout, one of the most ancient documented diseases in history, has long captivated artists, yielding a rich collection of artworks. This interest peaked during the Enlightenment era in Europe, a time marked by a surge in gout cases alongside rising wealth, consumerism, and subsequent increased public access to artists. This editorial aims to highlight an intriguing observation of a novel association within several Enlightenment-era paintings depicting individuals suffering from gout and often also portraying the distinctive red noses and cheeks seen in patients with rosacea. Traditionally, both rosacea and gout have been classified as localized inflammatory diseases. However, recent studies challenge this conventional categorization, suggesting that these conditions might be components of systemic inflammatory syndromes. Despite the widespread prevalence of these conditions, their potential interconnectedness and shared pathophysiological pathways remain unexplored. Therefore, the representation of gout and rosacea in historical art could extend beyond mere artistic interest, offering a unique and critical perspective for contemporary medical research.

Abstract
Rosacea is a multifactorial chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by flushing, nontransient erythema, papules and pustules, telangiectasia, and phymatous alterations accompanied by itching, burning, or stinging, the pathophysiology of which is not yet fully understood. Conventional topical treatments usually show limited efficacy due to the physical barrier property of the skin that hinders skin penetration of the active ingredients, thereby hampering proper drug skin delivery and the respective therapeutic or cosmetic effects. New advances regarding the physiopathological understanding of the disease and the underlying mechanisms suggest the potential of new active ingredients as promising therapeutic and cosmetic approaches to this dermatosis. Additionally, the development of new drug delivery systems for skin delivery, particularly the potential of nanoparticles for the topical treatment and care of rosacea, has been described. Emphasis has been placed on their reduced nanometric size, which contributes to a significant improvement in the attainment of targeted skin drug delivery. In addition to the exposition of the known pathophysiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and preventive measures, this Review covers the topical approaches used in the control of rosacea, including skin care, cosmetics, and topical therapies, as well as the future perspectives on these strategies.

Abstract
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent erythema, flushing, telangiectasia, papules, pustules, and phymatous changes in the central area of the face. Patients with this condition often experience a significant negative impact on their quality of life, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Despite its prevalence, the pathogenesis of rosacea is not yet fully understood. Recent research advances are reshaping our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of rosacea, and treatment options based on the pathophysiological perspective hold promise to improve patient outcomes and reduce incidence. In this comprehensive review, we investigate the pathogenesis of rosacea in depth, with a focus on emerging and novel mechanisms, and provide an up-to-date overview of therapeutic strategies that target the diverse pathogenic mechanisms of rosacea. Lastly, we discuss potential future research directions aimed at enhancing our understanding of the condition and developing effective treatments.

Abstract
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that is characterized by recurrent episodes of erythema, telangiectasia and papulopustular lesions. Although the pathogenesis is not well established, growing knowledge suggests that multiple etiological factors play a role resulting in inflammation. The aim of the present study is to investigate inflammatory status of patients with rosacea by evaluating CBC parameters and systemic immune inflammation (SII) index and compare these parameters with control group. Thus, it is aimed to understand the role of systemic inflammation in the pathogenesis of the disease. This retrospective, case-control study included 100 patients with rosacea and 58 sex- and age-matched controls. Laboratory examinations including CBC, ESR, CRP, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride levels were recorded and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR) and SII index were calculated. Monocyte and platelet count, SII index, ESR and CRP were significantly higher in patients with rosacea than in the control group. No statistically significant difference was found in other parameters. There was no significant correlation between disease severity and ESR, CRP, and SII index. The findings of this study suggest that apart from the inflammatory pathways at the level of skin, there is an inflammatory state in the blood of patients. Rosacea is a skin disease, but it may have systemic implications and/or associations that need to be clarified completely.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to develop a novel scoring system, named the integrated oxidative stress score (IOSS), based on oxidative stress indices to predict the prognosis in stage III gastric cancer. Methods: Retrospective analysis of stage III gastric cancer patients who were operated on between January 2014 and December 2016 were enrolled into this research. IOSS is a comprehensive index based on an achievable oxidative stress index, comprising albumin, blood urea nitrogen, and direct bilirubin. The patients were divided according to receiver operating characteristic curve into two groups of low IOSS (IOSS ≤ 2.00) and high IOSS (IOSS > 2.00). The grouping variable was performed by Chi-square test or Fisher's precision probability test. The continuous variables were evaluated by t-test. The disease free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were performed by Kaplan-Meier and Log-Rank tests. Univariate Cox proportional hazards regression models and stepwise multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis were determined to appraise the potential prognostic factors for DFS and OS. A nomogram of the potential prognostic factors by the multivariate analysis for DFS and OS was established with R software. In order to assess the accuracy of the nomogram in forecasting prognosis, the calibration curve and decision curve analysis were produced, contrasting the observed outcomes with the predicted outcomes. Results: The IOSS was significantly correlated with the DFS and OS, and was a potential prognostic factor in patients with stage III gastric cancer. Patients with low IOSS had longer survival (DFS: χ2 = 6.632, p = 0.010; OS: χ2 = 6.519, p = 0.011), and higher survival rates. According to the univariate and multivariate analyses, the IOSS was a potential prognostic factor. The nomograms were conducted on the potential prognostic factors to improve the correctness of survival prediction and evaluate the prognosis in stage III gastric cancer patients. The calibration curve indicated a good agreement in 1-, 3-, 5-year lifetime rates. The decision curve analysis indicated that the nomogram's predictive clinical utility for clinical decision was better than IOSS. Conclusion: IOSS is a nonspecific tumor predictor based on available oxidative stress index, and low IOSS is found to be a vigorous factor of better prognosis in stage III gastric cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of unknown pathogenesis. TWEAK and TRAIL are two cytokines thought to have a role in the pathogenesis of some inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. AIMS The purpose of this study was to examine TWEAK and TRAIL serum levels and oxidative stress markers in patients with rosacea. MATERIAL AND METHOD Forty rosacea patients and 40 sex- and age-matched healthy controls were involved in the study. Serum TWEAK and TRAIL levels were evaluated with ELISA kits. Serum total antioxidant status, total oxidant status, total thiol, native thiol, disulfide levels were evaluated, and oxidative stress index was computed. RESULTS Serum levels of TWEAK, TRAIL, and oxidative stress markers did not differ statistically in the patients and controls. Both TWEAK and TRAIL levels in the patients were detected to be statistically higher in male than in female. CONCLUSION TWEAK and TRAIL may not have a systemic effect in rosacea, unlike other inflammatory diseases. More studies are needed to investigate the role of TWEAK and TRAIL in rosacea.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oxidative stress and its role in the pathogenesis of cutaneous diseases have been widely investigated. However, there are few studies that have solely assessed the contribution of intracellular antioxidants in the etiopathology of melasma. Furthermore, there are convincing reports about antioxidant properties of bilirubin (Bil) and uric acid (UA) in some skin disorders but not melasma. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine serum levels of two major extracellular antioxidants (Bil and UA) levels in patients with melasma and their correlation with the severity and extent of the disease. METHODS In this case-control study, the serum levels of bilirubin and uric acid of 50 melasma patients were compared with 50 healthy controls. Moreover, the correlation of serum concentrations of these antioxidants with the extent and severity of the disease were assessed. RESULTS The serum concentration of Bil was significantly higher in the case group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, serum Bil level had a positive correlation with the extent of the melasma (correlation coefficient, +0.3; p < 0.05). No significant difference was found between the serum concentrations of UA between the study and control group. Neither Bil nor UA had a significant correlation with the severity of the disease. CONCLUSION Oxidative stress may play a major role in the etiopathology of melasma and bilirubin, as an antioxidant, could be involved in the process of oxidative stress.

Abstract
The antioxidant barrier system of the skin acts as the main defence against environmental pro-oxidants. Impaired skin oxidative state is linked to unhealthy conditions such as skin autoimmune diseases and cancer. Thus, the evaluation of the overall oxidative state of the skin plays a key role in further understanding and prevention of these disorders. This study aims to present a novel ex vivo model to evaluate the skin oxidative state by the measurement of its antioxidant capacity (AOC). For this the ORAC assay was combined with classical tape stripping and infrared densitometry to evaluate the oxidative state of the stratum corneum (SC). Outcomes implied the suitability of the used model to determine the intrinsic antioxidant capacity (iAOC) of the skin. The average iAOC of untreated skin was determined as 140 ± 7.4 µM TE. Skin exposure to UV light for 1 h reduced the iAOC by about 17%, and exposure for 2 h decreased the iAOC by about 30%. Treatment with ascorbic acid (AA) increased the iAOC in a dose-dependent manner and reached an almost two-fold iAOC when 20% AA solution was applied on the skin. The application of coenzyme Q10 resulted in an increase in the iAOC at low doses but decreased the iAOC when doses > 1% were applied on the skin. The results show that the combination of classical tape stripping and ORAC assay is a cost-effective and versatile method to evaluate the skin oxidative state and the pro-oxidate and antioxidative effects of topical skin treatments on the iAOC of the skin. Therefore, the model can be considered to be a valuable tool in skin research.

Abstract
Oxidative stress represents the imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants and has been associated with a wide range of diseases. Thiols are the most important compounds in antioxidant defense. There is an equilibrium between thiols and their oxidized forms, disulfides, known as dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis (TDH). In 2014, Erel and Neselioglu developed a novel automated assay to measure thiol and disulfide levels. Subsequently, many researchers have used this simple, inexpensive and fast method for evaluating TDH in various disorders. We have reviewed the literature on the role of TDH in skin diseases. We identified 26 studies that evaluated TDH in inflammatory diseases (psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, acne vulgaris and rosacea), allergic diseases (acute and chronic urticaria) and infectious diseases (warts, pityriasis rosea and tinea versicolor). The results are heterogeneous, but in most cases indicate changes in TDH that shifted toward disulfides or toward thiols, depending on the extent of oxidative damage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic actinic dermatitis (CAD) is a recurrent photosensitive disease occurs predominantly in elderly men on sun-exposed areas, which seriously affect the patient's life quality. The etiology of CAD remains unknown. METHODS Sixty-six CAD patients, 66 atopic dermatitis (AD) patients, and 46 healthy people were enrolled into this study. Patient-level data were obtained from the electronic medical record and laboratory databases. We also obtained 29 tissue samples including 16 lichenoid lesions, 7 minimal erythematous dose (MED) analysis induced lesions, and 6 normal skin samples. Histopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis were performed. RESULTS In the clinical characteristics, albumin was lower and uric acid was higher significantly in patients diagnosed as CAD. The infection rate of CAD patient after skin biopsy was considerably high (23.3%). The serum allergen test was prone to be negative in CAD patients. Lymphocytes were the dominate infiltrating cells in early and late CAD lesions, while more CD4+, CD8+, CD69+, and CD103 + cells were found in the late lesions. There is no difference in CD4+/CD8 + ratio and CD69+/CD103 + ratio among groups. More mast cells were observed in the early-stage lesions, and more dendritic cell was observed in the late-stage lesions. CONCLUSIONS CAD patients have certain oxidative stress and are prone to be infected after skin biopsy. Serum allergen detection is of little significance for CAD diagnosis. Mast cells may be involved in the early process of CAD, while dendritic cells and tissue-resident memory T cell (TRM) may be related to the chronic process of the disease.
