Abstract
OBJECTIVES Oro-dental manifestations of hyperoxaluria and dental management of affected patients are rarely reported in the literature. We describe a new oral presentation of primary hyperoxaluria (PH) and review relevant literature about oro-dental manifestations and management of dental complications of hyperoxaluria. METHODS A case report of a 44-year-old female who presented with symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction due to hyperoxaluria was described according to the CARE guidelines. In addition, an extensive search of biomedical databases (PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, and Embase) for articles describing oro-dental manifestations and/or dental management in patients with hyperoxaluria was performed using the key words ("oral" and/or "hyperoxaluria" and/or "dental" and/or "oxalosis"). Included articles were reviewed and data about patient demographics, disease type and stage, oral and dental manifestations, and dental treatment outcome were retrieved and analyzed. RESULTS A total of 14 articles describing the oral and dental manifestations in 15 patients with hyperoxaluria were included. Tooth mobility, root resorption, and radiographic alterations were consistently described in all cases. Oral manifestations were described mainly in PH at late stages, and only after the onset of chronic renal disease. Dental management in all reported cases was palliative and aimed to relive pain and treat periodontal infection. Tooth loss due to extraction or uncontrolled mobility was the ultimate outcome in almost all reported cases. CONCLUSION Oral and dental manifestations in hyperoxaluria are rarely reported in the literature. Management of tooth mobility and root resorption in hyperoxaluria is challenging and clinical guidelines and evidence-based recommendations are lacking. Early diagnosis and treatment of hyperoxaluria might be the only effective approach to prevent dental and periodontal complications of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Crowding is the most frequent malocclusion in orthodontics, with a strong hereditary tendency. It already occurs in pediatric age and is mainly hereditary. It is a sign of a lack of space in the arches, and is not self-correcting, but can worsen over time. The main cause of the worsening of this malocclusion is a progressive and physiological decrease in the arch perimeter. METHODS To identify relevant studies investigating the most common possible treatments for mandibular dental crowding, a comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science was conducted encompassing the last 5 years (2018-2023) using the following MeSH: "mandibular crowding AND treatment" and "mandibular crowding AND therapy ". RESULTS A total of 12 studies were finally included. An orthodontic treatment cannot ignore the concept of "guide arch", which concerns the lower arch, because of the objective difficulty in increasing its perimeter; the bone structure of the lower jaw is more compact than that of the upper one. Its expansion, in fact, is limited to a slight vestibularization of the incisors and lateral sectors that may be associated with a limited distalization of the molars. CONCLUSIONS There are various therapeutic solutions available to the orthodontist, and a correct diagnosis through clinical examination, radiographs and model analysis are essential. The decision of how to deal with crowding cannot be separated from an overall assessment of the malocclusion to be treated.

Abstract
Axenfeld–Rieger Syndrome (ARS) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease with considerable expressive variability, characterized by ocular and non-ocular manifestations, cardiovascular, mild craniofacial abnormalities and dental malformations. Current data report an incidence of Xenfeld-Rieger syndrome in the population of 1: 200,000. The case described is that of a 14-year-old female patient whose ARS is suspected and investigated following a dental specialist visit for orthodontic reasons, acquired the patient’s family and clinical data following a medical approach multidisciplinary, we proceed to the orthodontic involved the use of the Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE) and a fixed orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study is to report the case of the orthopaedic and orthodontic treatment in a patient affected by ARS and with facial dysmorphism and teeth anomalies associated to ocular anomalies.

Abstract
Objectives Implants are used to replace congenitally missing lateral incisors but often the space across the alveolar crest is too narrow to permit their use. This multicenter study (Dental Clinic of the University of Foggia, Odontostomatology Clinic of the University of L’Aquila) evaluated the efficacy of mini-implants in cases of maxillary lateral incisor agenesis with severe osseous atrophy in 10-year follow-up. Materials and methods Forty-seven mini-implants have been inserted in 35 patients affected by lateral incisors agenesis (23 single and 12 bilateral ageneses). All patients underwent orthodontic opening of the space of the upper lateral incisors. After the insertion of the implants, the immediate, non-functional loading, positioning of crowns, presence of pain during percussion and mini-implant function, horizontal and vertical movement when a force of 5 N was applied, ridge loss, and plaque index have been evaluated 1 month after loading, 1 year after loading, and then every 5 years in the following 10 years. Little’s test was used to evaluate the assumption that data of loss to follow-up implants are missing completely at random (MCAR) and that a complete-case scenario could be adopted. Wilcoxon test was carried out to look statistically significant differences between the various parameters resulting in the complete-case scenario and those assumed for the worst scenario. The software R (v. 3.6.1, 2019) was employed to perform the statistical analysis. Results The results obtained over 10 years range from 89% of success rate in a worst-case scenario to the 100% using a complete-case analysis with satisfactory values of marginal bone resorption and good conditions of the peri-implant tissue. Ten-year follow-up using complete-case analysis shows survival rates of 100% for implants with no signs of peri-implantitis, stability of the marginal bone levels and soft tissue around the dental implants. Conclusions The data collected show very good implant stability, absence of progressive peri-implantitis, and satisfactory aesthetical results in time (no signs of infraocclusion). Clinical relevance Mini-implants can be considered a valid and stable over time solution in the restorative treatment of maxillary lateral incisors agenesis.

Evaluation of Vitamin D (25OHD), Bone Alkaline Phosphatase (BALP), Serum Calcium, Serum Phosphorus, Ionized Calcium in Patients with Mandibular Third Molar Impaction. An Observational Study. Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of vitamin D (25OHD) and other bone biomarkers in patients with third molar impaction (TMI). Thirty males and 30 females with unilateral or bilateral impacted mandibular third molar, and 15 males and 15 females as a control group (CG) were recruited. Rx-OPT was used to evaluate dental position and Pederson index to measure the difficulty of the intervention. Bone biomarkers were measured through blood venous sample in TMI group and CG. Mann-Whitney test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, linear regression model were used to compare the different parameters in the two groups. 25OHD showed lower values in TMI group than in CG (p < 0.05) with values significantly lower in bilateral impaction (p < 0.05). Pearson’s coefficient for 25OHD presented a negative correlation with the Pederson index (ρ = −0.75). Bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) showed significantly lower dosage in TMI group than CG (p = 0.02), Pearson’s coefficient for BALP presented a negative correlation with the Pederson index. Serum calcium, serum phosphorus, ionized calcium levels in TMI and CG groups were similar and Mann-Whitney test did not significantly differ between TMI and CG. TMI could be a sign of vitamin D deficiency and of low BALP levels that should be investigated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Clarifying the discrepancy between frequently high oxalate concentrations present in saliva, but negligible amounts of calcium oxalate deposits found on oral surfaces. METHODS Studying the calcium oxalate concentration range that can lead to heterogeneous crystallization in the oral cavity. a) Minimum: calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) seed crystals were pre-grown ([Ca2+] = [C2O42-] = 1 mM, 30 min, 37 °C), and then re-immersed for ≥6 h to find the solubility equilibrium concentration (no growth, no dissolution). The concentrations tested were [Ca2+]/[C2O42-] : 0.055/0.050, 0.060/0.055, 0.070/0.065 and 0.080/0.075 mM. Supersaturations were calculated via the Debye-Hückel-theory and COM morphologies examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). b) Maximum (at the heterogeneous/homogeneous crystallization equilibrium): hydroxyapatite (HA) seed crystals were used to heterogeneously crystallize COM (37 °C, 24 h), using oxalate concentrations between 0.2 and 0.5 mM and calcium concentrations of 0.5 mM. COM-forming oxalate consumption was spectroscopically examined; COM precipitates were investigated by SEM; and HA identity was confirmed by X-ray analysis. RESULTS Within the concentration range of [Ca2+]/[C2O42-]:0.060/0.055 mM (minimum) and [Ca2+]/[C2O42-]:0.50/0.25 mM (maximum) COM precipitates heterogeneously. In terms of mass, this corresponds to a range of 8.04-36.53 mg/l (daily) or an average of 14.32 mg COM (mimicking e.g. plaque mineralization). Higher concentrations react homogeneously (mimicking precipitation within saliva). CONCLUSION In vivo, only ∼0.05 % oxalate present in saliva reacts with oral surfaces daily, corresponding to ∼0.0665 μmol/l or ∼9.72 μg COM per day. Calcium-consuming calcium phosphate formation and phosphoproteins such as statherin obviously hinder intraoral COM formation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Due to advances in the field of medicine, early diagnosis and high-quality medical management has become available for medically compromised patients. This increases their life expectancy and improves their quality of life. Therefore, orthodontic treatment can be provided to these patients whose medical conditions are well controlled. OBJECTIVE This article will discuss some medical conditions that might be seen by orthodontists. Also, recommendations and modifications of the orthodontic treatment plan will be discussed thoroughly. MATERIALS AND METHODS A computerized electronic search of the literature was conducted in Google Scholar and PubMed and was limited to publications in English. RESULTS Orthodontic management was studied in cases of Infective endocarditis (IE), Thrombocytopenia, Hemophilia, Sickle cell anemia, Thalassemia, Diabetes mellitus (DM), Thyroid Disorders, Asthma, DiGeorge Syndrome, HIV/AIDS, Organ transplantation, Orthodontic management, Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), Seizure disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Mood disorders, Schizophrenia and Eating disorders.
