Abstract
BACKGROUND The market requires ever-faster techniques, in particular for pre-rejuvenation condition. AIM The purpose of this study was to assess if a fractional CO2 scanner modality (called moveo) results in a faster full-face rejuvenation treatment in comparison to the standard mode, currently existing in the scanner system. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 12 female patients affected by fine lines participated in a split-face clinical investigation and underwent to two sessions with a fractional CO2 laser system equipped with an existing and a faster dedicated scanner units. Pain was assessed using VAS. Three-dimensional clinical photographs were captured before, immediately after, 3 days, 14 days after the first treatment and immediately after the second treatment and 1 months after the last one. The uniformity and aesthetic coverage of treatments were assessed using dermatoscopy. Global aesthetic improvement scale (GAIS) was used. The time taken to treat the two sides of the face and all possible side effects were monitored. RESULTS Following only two treatment session with both scanner modes, the patient's skin texture improved significantly, with fine lines reduction. There is no statistically significant difference in perceived pain between patients. The GAIS score showed satisfactory results following both modalities. The time parameters indicated that with the faster scanner mode the full-face treatment time was reduced by 30% compared to the standard one. No adverse effects were observed. CONCLUSIONS The moveo modality provide faster treatment and a better final dermal aesthetic outcome than the standard procedure while maintaining the same safety profile.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are no standards for evaluating skin photoaging. Dermoscopy is a non-invasive detection method that might be useful for evaluating photoaging. OBJECTIVE To assess the correlation between the dermoscopic evaluation of photoaging and clinical and pathological evaluations. METHODS The age, clinical evaluation (Fitzpatrick classification, Glogau Photoaging Classification, and Chung's standardized image ruler), histopathology (Masson staining and MMP-1 immunohistochemistry), and dermoscopy (Hu's and Isik's) of 40 donor skin samples were analyzed statistically, and Spearman rank correlation analysis was performed. RESULTS There was a robust correlation between the total Hu scores and Isik dermoscopy. The correlation of dermoscopy with histopathology was higher than that of clinical evaluation methods. There is a strong correlation between telangiectases and lentigo. Xerosis, superficial wrinkle, diffuse erythema, telangiectases, and reticular pigmentation were significantly correlated with the three clinical evaluation methods. Superficial wrinkles were correlated with Masson, MMP-1, various clinical indicators, and other dermoscopic items. CONCLUSION There is a good correlation between dermoscopy and clinical and histopathological examination. Dermoscopy might help evaluate skin photoaging.

Abstract
Background Hemoporfin-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an effective treatment for port-wine stains (PWS), and pain is the main adverse effect of this therapy. General anesthesia is commonly used for pain management during PDT, but the effect of general anesthetics on the subsequent treatment efficacy of PDT in PWS has not been reported. Objectives To assess the use of general anesthesia combined with PDT compared with PDT alone in 207 PWS patients, and to provide further safety and efficacy data on this combined therapy. Methods Propensity score matching (PSM) was used at a 2:1 ratio to create a general anesthetic group (n = 138) and a highly comparable nonanesthetic group (n = 69). The clinical outcomes were evaluated, and the treatment reactions and adverse effects were recorded after one treatment with PDT. Results After matching, there was no significant difference in the demographic data of the patients in the two groups (p > 0.05), while the treatment efficacy was significantly higher in the general anesthetic group than in the nonanesthetic group (76.81 vs. 56.52%, p < 0.05). Moreover, logistic regression analysis confirmed that patients receiving general anesthesia showed an association with a good response to PDT (OR = 3.06; 95% CI, 1.57-6.00; p = 0.0011). Purpura lasted longer in the general anesthetic group, but the other treatment reactions and adverse effects were similar in the two groups (p > 0.05). No serious systemic adverse reactions were observed. Conclusion We recommend this combined therapy, which is associated with painless, as a high efficacy treatment option for PWS patients, especially for patients with a poor response to multiple PDT alone treatments.

Abstract
Besides genetic characteristics, people also undergo a process of skin aging under the influence of diverse factors such as sun exposure, food intake, sleeping patterns, and drinking habits, which are closely related to their personal lifestyle. So far, many studies have been conducted to analyze skin conditions quantitatively. However, to describe the current skin condition or predict future skin aging effectively, we need to understand the correlation between skin aging and lifestyle. In this study, we first demonstrate how to trace people’s skin condition accurately using scale-invariant feature transform and the color histogram intersection method. Then, we show how to estimate skin texture aging depending on the lifestyle by considering various features from face, neck, and hand dermoscopy images. Lastly, we describe how to predict future skin conditions in terms of skin texture features. Based on the Pearson correlation, we describe the correlation between skin aging and lifestyle, and estimate skin aging according to lifestyle using the polynomial regression and support vector regression models. We evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme through various experiments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported relationships between various visual parameters of the skin and changes due to aging. Due to an increase in the discovery of unidentified bodies, the field of forensic medicine anticipates the development of a rapid method for estimating age. The present study measured various visual parameters of the skin in human remains and investigated the correlation between these parameters and age. MATERIALS AND METHODS Skin images were taken of four body parts (cheek, chin, brachium, and thigh) of 414 forensic cases. We interpreted eight visual parameters of the skin (smoothness, roughness, texture, dullness, brightness, erythema, color phase, and sagging) from skin photograph images, and constructed three age-prediction models, categorized by sex, postmortem interval, and age. RESULTS Significant correlations were observed in the erythema of the cheek and chin, the roughness of the brachium, and the texture of the brachium and thigh among the visual parameters calculated in four body parts, using the three models. The root-mean-square errors, which indicate the precision of the three prediction models, were 13.06, 13.80, and 13.77. The only model that demonstrated a correlation with the visual parameters was sex (but not age or postmortem interval). CONCLUSION Similar to living subjects, we observed a correlation with age for a number of visual parameters. The parameters that correlate with age depend on whether the site being measured was exposed to sunlight. Age estimation based on visual parameters requires measurement of visual parameters for skin both exposed and not exposed to sunlight.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A novel auto-cross-linked hyaluronic acid formulation (HA-ACP) has been proposed as a treatment for skin rejuvenation. This prospective pilot study aims to assess its tolerability and performance in the treatment of skin aging of the décolletage. METHODS Fifteen women (mean age 49.0 ± 8.0 (range 30-65)) who complained about the appearance of their décolletage were prospectively enrolled and treated with three sets of HA-ACP (IAL-SYSTEM ACP®) intradermal injections, administered three weeks apart. Control visits followed at 80 and 120 days from enrollment. The rejuvenating effect was assessed using the Beagley-Gibson and Fabi-Bolton scores. The investigators and the subjects also subjectively assessed skin appearance using a 1-10 scale. The rejuvenating effect and its persistence were assessed comparing the scores collected at the different experimental times by means of Wilcoxon rank tests. Adverse events and their duration were recorded and compared to those reported in the literature. RESULTS The HA-ACP formulation provided a significant improvement according to the Beagley-Gibson score (p < 0.005) at all time points. At the 120-day follow-up, the Fabi-Bolton score was significantly improved with respect to baseline (p < 0.05). The rejuvenating effect persisted unaltered between the 80-day and the 120-day visits. At the 120-day visit, the subjects' and investigators' subjective scores were between 8 and 10 in most cases. No unexpected adverse effects were observed. All adverse effects were well tolerated and disappeared over a short period. CONCLUSIONS The HA-ACP treatment under investigation is safe, well tolerated, and provides effective and long-lasting décolletage rejuvenation. Abstract
BACKGROUND The types of shape feature that constitutes a face have not been comprehensively established, and most previous studies of age-related changes in facial shape have focused on individual characteristics, such as wrinkle, sagging skin, etc. In this study, we quantitatively measured differences in face shape between individuals and investigated how shape features changed with age. METHODS We analyzed three-dimensionally the faces of 280 Japanese women aged 20-69 years and used principal component analysis to establish the shape features that characterized individual differences. We also evaluated the relationships between each feature and age, clarifying the shape features characteristic of different age groups. RESULTS Changes in facial shape in middle age were a decreased volume of the upper face and increased volume of the whole cheeks and around the chin. Changes in older people were an increased volume of the lower cheeks and around the chin, sagging skin, and jaw distortion. CONCLUSION Principal component analysis was effective for identifying facial shape features that represent individual and age-related differences. This method allowed straightforward measurements, such as the increase or decrease in cheeks caused by soft tissue changes or skeletal-based changes to the forehead or jaw, simply by acquiring three-dimensional facial images.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Free radical scavengers and antioxidants, with the main focus on enhanced targeting to the skin layers, can provide protection against skin ageing. OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to prepare nanoethosomal formulation of gammaoryzanol (GO), a water insoluble antioxidant, for its dermal delivery to prevent skin aging. METHODS Nanoethosomal formulation was prepared by a modified ethanol injection method and characterized by using laser light scattering, scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The effects of formulation parameters on nanoparticle size, encapsulation efficiency percent (EE%) and loading capacity percent (LC%) were investigated. Antioxidant activity of GO-loaded formulation was investigated in vitro using normal African green monkey kidney fibroblast cells (Vero). The effect of control and GO-loaded nanoethosomal formulation on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content of rat skin was also probed. Furthermore, the effect of GO-loaded nanoethosomes on skin wrinkle improvement was studied by dermoscopic and histological examination on healthy humans and UV-irradiated rats, respectively. RESULTS The optimized nanoethosomal formulation showed promising characteristics including narrow size distribution 0.17 ± 0.02, mean diameter of 98.9 ± 0.05 nm, EE% of 97.12 ± 3.62%, LC% of 13.87 ± 1.36% and zeta potential value of -15.1 ± 0.9 mV. The XRD results confirmed uniform drug dispersion in the nanoethosomes structure. In vitro and in vivo antioxidant studies confirmed the superior antioxidant effect of GO-loaded nanoethosomal formulation compared with control groups (blank nanoethosomes and GO suspension). CONCLUSIONS Nanoethosomes was a promising carrier for dermal delivery of GO and consequently had superior anti-aging effect.

Abstract
Skin texture has become an important issue in recent research with applications in the cosmetic industry and medicine. In this paper, we analyzed the dependence of skin texture features on wavelength as well as on different parameters (age and gender) of human participants using grey-level co-occurrence matrix and hyperspectral imaging technique for a more accurate quantitative assessment of the aging process. A total of 42 healthy participants (men and women; age range, 20-70 years) was enrolled in this study. A region of interest was selected from the hyperspectral images. The results were analyzed in terms of texture using the gray-level co-occurrence matrix which generated four features (homogeneity, contrast, entropy, and correlation). The results showed that most of these features displayed variations with wavelength (the exception was entropy), with higher variations in women. Only correlation in both sexes and contrast in men proved to vary statistically significant with age, making them the targeted variables in future attempts to characterize aging skin using the complex method of hyperspectral imaging. In conclusion, by using hyperspectral imaging some measure of the degree of damage or the aging process of the hand skin can be obtained, mainly in terms of correlation values. At the present time, reasonable explanations that can link the process of skin aging and the above mentioned features could not be found, but deeper investigations are on the way.

Aging affects human skin and is becoming increasingly important with regard to medical, social and aesthetic issues. Detection of intrinsic and extrinsic components of skin aging requires reliable measurement methods. Modern techniques, e.g., based on direct imaging, spectroscopy or skin physiological measurements, provide a broad spectrum of parameters for different applications.
