Abstract
The term neurodiversity was coined in the 1990s to describe a diversity in thinking, learning, and processing the world around us, and is associated with strengths as well as challenges. Rates of diagnosis of neurodivergent conditions are rising rapidly amongst patients and healthcare professionals, largely due to a recent surge in awareness and understanding of neurodiverse conditions and more inclusive diagnostic criteria. Societal adaptation, however, has lagged, and likely explains some of the psychosocial comorbidities of neurodiversity, as individuals are forced to adapt their personality and how they display their emotions to fit societal norms. There remains a lack of awareness and understanding of neurodiversity amongst the healthcare professions. There is also very limited published literature on the challenges and strengths of this group in the clinical environment. Here, we use a case study, focusing on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to explore the relationship between neurodiversity and work from the perspective of a neurodiverse health care professional. We challenge the notion that neurodiversity itself is a disability, but more likely a result of lack of societal awareness and adaption. We suggest accommodations and training in the clinical environment to raise awareness and support neurodiverse healthcare professionals in order that they flourish rather than struggle in the workplace.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The current study aims to examine the efficacy of an add-on dialectical behavior therapy skills training (DBT-ST) on adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The DBT-ST was applied online under the pandemic conditions that occurred after the study had started. METHODS The current randomized controlled trial consists of an intervention group to whom the DBT-ST was applied in online setting and a waitlist control group who received treatment as usual (TAU). Data were collected pre-, post-, and mid-treatment. ADHD symptoms (with the sub-dimensions of inattention and hyperactivity), impulsivity, mindfulness, difficulty with emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, life satisfaction, functionality in daily life, and general psychological symptom levels were measured with self-report scales. The data were analyzed using mixed-design ANOVA. RESULTS The global ADHD, inattention, and hyperactivity symptoms of the DBT-ST group significantly decreased more than those in the TAU control group. The DBT-ST group also showed a significant decrease regarding difficulty with emotion regulation and increases in life satisfaction and functionality, though the group × time effect was not significant. CONCLUSION DBT-ST was found effective against the participants' ADHD symptoms. The treatment was additionally found to improve their emotion regulation and quality of life. Further investigation is needed to investigate DBT-ST in an online setting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are now hundreds of systematic reviews on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) of variable quality. To help navigate this literature, we have reviewed systematic reviews on any topic on ADHD. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science and performed quality assessment according to the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis. A total of 231 systematic reviews and meta-analyses met the eligibility criteria. RESULTS The prevalence of ADHD was 7.2% for children and adolescents and 2.5% for adults, though with major uncertainty due to methodological variation in the existing literature. There is evidence for both biological and social risk factors for ADHD, but this evidence is mostly correlational rather than causal due to confounding and reverse causality. There is strong evidence for the efficacy of pharmacological treatment on symptom reduction in the short-term, particularly for stimulants. However, there is limited evidence for the efficacy of pharmacotherapy in mitigating adverse life trajectories such as educational attainment, employment, substance abuse, injuries, suicides, crime, and comorbid mental and somatic conditions. Pharmacotherapy is linked with side effects like disturbed sleep, reduced appetite, and increased blood pressure, but less is known about potential adverse effects after long-term use. Evidence of the efficacy of nonpharmacological treatments is mixed. CONCLUSIONS Despite hundreds of systematic reviews on ADHD, key questions are still unanswered. Evidence gaps remain as to a more accurate prevalence of ADHD, whether documented risk factors are causal, the efficacy of nonpharmacological treatments on any outcomes, and pharmacotherapy in mitigating the adverse outcomes associated with ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parenting demands a high degree of attention, planning, and problem-solving, including time management, demands that can be challenging for parents with ADHD. Let's Get Organized (LGO) is an occupational therapy group intervention aiming at developing skills in time management, organisation and planning. There is a need to investigate if LGO may have an impact also on parenting. AIM To describe how parents with ADHD experienced the intervention, their time management strategies, parenting and family life after the occupational therapy group intervention LGO. METHOD Interviews were performed with 15 parents with ADHD, after completing LGO. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS The findings are described in one overarching main category, Active parenting and better relations within and outside the family through daily time management with three underlying generic categories: Let's Get Organized facilitates empowerment in daily life; The individual and family - both facilitators of and obstacles to implementation of time management strategies; and A changed parenting and family life. CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE Participants experienced a positive impact on time management skills after LGO, which generated more active parenting and better predictability in the whole family. LGO can be a valuable intervention for parents with ADHD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Developmental coordination disorder (DCD) is related to poorer educational outcomes among children and adolescents. Evidence on this association into adulthood is lacking. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether probable DCD (pDCD) in childhood affected educational outcomes among adults, and whether this was affected by sex or a co-occurring attention deficit in childhood. DESIGN Register-based longitudinal cohort study. SETTING Neonatal intensive care (NIC) recipients born at Uppsala University Children's Hospital, Uppsala, Sweden, from 1986 to 1989 until they reached the age of 28. PARTICIPANTS 185 NIC recipients. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES At the age of 6.5, 46 (24.6%) of the NIC recipients were diagnosed with pDCD. Using register-based longitudinal data, we compared participants with and without pDCD in terms of: (1) age at Upper Secondary School (USS) graduation, and (2) highest level of education achieved by age 28. RESULTS The median age at USS graduation was 19 years, with similar graduation ages and ranges between those with or without pDCD. However, a higher proportion of participants without pDCD had graduated from USS at ages 19 and 24. By age 29, most participants had completed USS. At age 28, 33% of participants had attained a bachelor's or master's degree. Although there was no significant difference between the groups, the proportion that had attained a degree was higher among those without pDCD and women without pDCD had achieved the highest level of education. Educational outcomes remained similar for those with pDCD, regardless of childhood attention deficit. CONCLUSIONS pDCD during childhood may have a lasting impact on educational outcomes, particularly among women. Raising awareness of DCD among parents, health and educational professionals is vital for early identification and the provision of appropriate support and interventions in schools, mitigating the potential negative consequences associated with DCD and promoting positive educational outcomes.

Abstract
Adults with ADHD experience a wide range of difficulties in daily life, and RNs and other healthcare professionals need to know how to support them. The aim was to conduct a systematic review of which selfcare strategies adults with ADHD use and need in order to manage daily life. A literature review based on the PRISMA model was performed, and seven articles with a qualitative design were found. Data were analyzed with thematic analysis. The analysis generated one major theme Enabling ways to manage the consequences of disability in daily life based on three subthemes; Establishing ways of acting to help yourself, Finding encouraging and helping relationships, and Using external aids for managing daily life. Professionals may benefit from knowing about these selfcare strategies when meeting people with ADHD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the effect of a once-daily extended-release methylphenidate formulation (PRC-063) versus placebo on sleep, measured via daily electronic diary in two clinical trials in pediatric (6-12 years) and adult (≥18 years) patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). METHOD A diary was completed by adult patients or parents/caregivers of pediatric patients during two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled laboratory classroom studies. Following dose optimization of PRC-063, patients were randomized to 1 week of double-blind treatment with PRC-063 or placebo before attending a full-day laboratory classroom session. RESULTS In the studies, 148 pediatric patients and 239 adult patients were randomized to either PRC-063 or placebo. When compared with the diaries of placebo patients, the sleep diaries in both pediatric and adult patients showed no statistical difference in total sleep time, efficiency, or latency. CONCLUSION PRC-063 did not impact subjective measures of sleep versus placebo in pediatric and adult patients with ADHD.

Abstract
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common condition that frequently persists into adulthood, although research and diagnostic criteria are focused on how the condition presents in children. We aimed to review qualitative research on lived experiences of adults with ADHD to characterize potential ADHD symptomatology in adulthood and provide perspectives on how needs might be better met. We searched three databases for qualitative studies on ADHD. Studies (n = 35) in English that included data on the lived experiences of adults with ADHD were included. These studies covered experiences of receiving a diagnosis as an adult, symptomatology of adult ADHD, skills used to adapt to these symptoms, relationships between ADHD and substance use, patients' self-perceptions, and participants' experiences interacting with society. Many of the ADHD symptoms reported in these studies had overlap with other psychiatric conditions and may contribute to misdiagnosis and delays in diagnosis. Understanding symptomatology of ADHD in adults may inform future diagnostic criteria and guide interventions to improve quality of life.

Abstract
Psychological theory and interpretation of research are key elements influencing clinical treatment development and design in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Research-based treatment recommendations primarily support Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an extension of the cognitive behavioural theory, which promotes a deficit-focused characterisation of ADHD and prioritises symptom reduction and cognitive control of self-regulation as treatment outcomes. A wide variety of approaches have developed to improve ADHD outcomes in adults, and this review aimed to map the theoretical foundations of treatment design to understand their impact. A scoping review and analysis were performed on 221 documents to compare the theoretical influences in research, treatment approach, and theoretical citations. Results showed that despite variation in the application, current treatments characterise ADHD from a single paradigm of cognitive behavioural theory. A single theoretical perspective is limiting research for effective treatments for ADHD to address ongoing issues such as accommodating context variability and heterogeneity. Research into alternative theoretical characterisations of ADHD is recommended to provide treatment design opportunities to better understand and address symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Time management skills are essential for living in modern society. People with mental or neurodevelopmental disorders typically have cognitive limitations, including affected time management, which might lead to poor occupational balance, low self-efficacy, and poor parental sense of competence. "Let's Get Organized" (LGO) is a recently developed manual-based group intervention to train time management skills. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the efficiency of the Swedish version of LGO (LGO-S) compared to treatment as usual (individual occupational therapy) to improve time management for adults with impaired time management skills due to mental or neurodevelopmental disorders. Furthermore, to evaluate if the intervention is a cost-effective way to improve the quality of life and time management skills of these individuals, we will conduct a health economic evaluation. METHODS The trial will have a multi-centre, open, parallel randomised controlled design. A total of 104 adults with cognitive limitations due to mental or neurodevelopmental disorders will be recruited from open psychiatric or habilitation care units. Outcomes will be measured before and after a 10-week intervention, with a follow-up 3 months after completing the intervention. The primary outcome will be self-assessed time management skills. Secondary outcomes will be e.g. self-assessed skills in organisation and planning, regulation of emotions, satisfaction with daily occupations, occupational balance, self-efficacy, and quality-adjusted life years. DISCUSSION A recent feasibility study has shown promising results for LGO-S, and a randomised trial will provide robust evidence for the possible efficacy of LGO-S in comparison to treatment as usual. Abstract
BACKGROUND Symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are commonly comorbid with depression This study aimed to examine the relationship between ADHD symptoms and depression through perceived family support and to explore whether the magnitude of the relationship depended on the type of family climate of medical students. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted among 124 first year medical students in Thailand. Participants completed questionnaires on ADHD symptoms, depression, perceived family support, and 9 types of family climate. The questionnaires included the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale Screener, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and revised Thai Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Mediational analysis was adopted to examine the mediating role of perceived family support in the relationship between ADHD symptoms and depression, while moderation analysis was applied to examine the extent of the relationship depending on family climate. RESULTS The relationship between ADHD symptoms and depression was moderate. Perceived family support partially mediated this relationship after controlling for age and sex. Among the types of family climate, only helpful family climate was a significant moderator of perceived family support and depression. The moderated mediation model increased the variance in depression from 17% by the mediation model to 21%. However, follow-up conditional mediational analysis showed that the indirect effect of ADHD symptoms on depression via perceived family support was not significant and that this effect did not vary linearly as a function of helpful family climate. CONCLUSION The findings of the study revealed that poor family support might be one risk of developing depression in the context of ADHD symptoms. Further study on providing intervention concerning family support among those with ADHD symptoms should be warranted. In addition, a study on helpful family climate in a larger sample size, in other populations, and in a longitudinal fashion for a more robust conclusion is encouraged.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine perceived aspects of importance among young adults with ADHD to participate and engage in occupational activities, and to explain how support from occupational specialists can assist them to deal with executive impairments. MATERIALS AND METHODS Individual interviews with eight young adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The interview guide was based on assumptions derived from the literature regarding executive functioning and issues related to participation in occupational activities, alongside the needs for social support. Interview transcripts were analysed using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Four categories emerged from the analysed interviews: (1) Being involved in an occupational environment fulfils a need for social contact, (2) Occupational activities must be clear and within interest (3) Self-confidence and daily routines are prerequisites for occupational participation (4) Having a lifeline providing continuous support is important. CONCLUSIONS Routines, interest and structure in everyday life are important to engage in occupational activities. There is a need for continuous support from a trusted person to establish and maintain healthy daily routines. Occupational specialists can be a vital resource, as they possess specific knowledge on the possibilities for occupation, and additionally, they can fulfil the young adults' needs for continuous support. There is a need for studies questioning how some young adults with ADHD fulfil their work role despite executive impairments. Focusing on executive functioning can be a valuable supplement to the focus on specific diagnoses in research and practice.

Abstract
Adenosine diphosphate ribosylation (ADP-ribosylation; ADPr), the addition of ADP-ribose moieties onto proteins and nucleic acids, is a highly conserved modification involved in a wide range of cellular functions, from viral defence, DNA damage response (DDR), metabolism, carcinogenesis and neurobiology. Here we study MACROD1 and MACROD2 (mono-ADP-ribosylhydrolases 1 and 2), two of the least well-understood ADPr-mono-hydrolases. MACROD1 has been reported to be largely localized to the mitochondria, while the MACROD2 genomic locus has been associated with various neurological conditions such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and schizophrenia; yet the potential significance of disrupting these proteins in the context of mammalian behaviour is unknown. Therefore, here we analysed both Macrod1 and Macrod2 gene knockout (KO) mouse models in a battery of well-defined, spontaneous behavioural testing paradigms. Loss of Macrod1 resulted in a female-specific motor-coordination defect, whereas Macrod2 disruption was associated with hyperactivity that became more pronounced with age, in combination with a bradykinesia-like gait. These data reveal new insights into the importance of ADPr-mono-hydrolases in aspects of behaviour associated with both mitochondrial and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Abstract
Background: Deliberate self-harm (DSH) is a common behavior in psychiatric populations. However, little is known regarding how DSH impacts daily life. The concept of functional disability, adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO), refers to the impact of disorders on six domains of daily functioning. The aim of the current study was to explore the functional disability of psychiatric patients with DSH as compared to a psychiatric control group. Methods: 32 psychiatric patients with DSH and 31 psychiatric patients without DSH were assessed with regards to demographic information, functional disability, psychiatric illness, DSH, general cognitive functioning, and measures of psychopathology. Group comparisons were made by means of t-tests, Mann-Whitney-tests, and Chi-square tests. Correlation analyses were done to assess the association between measures of psychopathology and functional disability. Results: The results indicated that patients with DSH had a lower ability to self-care as compared to the patients without DSH (p = 0.001, d = 0.90). Also, the patients with DSH reported a significantly higher number of days when they were totally unable to carry out usual activities in the past month (p = 0.008, d = 0.70) and that they were admitted in an inpatient setting significantly more days over the past year compared to the patients without DSH (p < 0.001, d = 0.58). The group with DSH was significantly younger (t = 3.00, p = 0.004) and reported significantly more BPD-symptoms (p = 0.013, d = 0.64) as well as higher current suicidality (p < 0.001, d = 1.32) compared to the group without DSH. The group with DSH also included a significantly higher number of patients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (χ2 = 13.72, p < 0.001). There were no differences between the groups regarding general cognitive functioning or severity of depression. More research is needed to understand the underlying factors involved.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore and describe everyday life and hospital-based healthcare experiences and utilization in families of children with ADHD in Denmark. DESIGN AND METHODS The present work is a multistage, mixed methods study. The design consists of three individual studies: a meta-synthesis, a focused ethnographic study, and a historical cohort study. RESULTS The integrated findings show that: 1) parental stressors affect everyday life and hospital-based service use; 2) parents have concerns for their child from early childhood and fight to have their concerns recognized; and 3) healthcare professionals are important for parents to navigate the persistent challenges of everyday life. CONCLUSIONS Having a child with ADHD pervades everyday life and children with ADHD use more medical and psychiatric services in hospitals during the first 12 years of life than children without ADHD. The findings demonstrate a vulnerable everyday life experience and highlight the importance of the families being recognized, accepted, and respected in hospital-based healthcare services from early childhood. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Healthcare professionals need to recognize the challenges the family of a child with ADHD faces and to acknowledge that ADHD pervades all aspects of everyday life and all other healthcare issues. It is important for healthcare professionals, regardless of specialty, to engage with individual families and to positively contribute to the medical and psychiatric healthcare experience.
