Abstract
A new graphene oxide (GO) model with reasonable functional group types and distribution modes was proposed by integrating potentiometric titrations and ab initio calculations. Due to the complex synthesis mechanism, the atomic structure of GO has been controversial for a long time. Here, we use density functional theory calculations to mimic the oxidation process, and a series of GO fragments (GOFs) were deduced. A new pKa calculation method (RCDPKA) developed specifically in this work was further used to predict pKa values of the fragments. Then, we performed potentiometric titrations on four different GO samples to confirm the existence of these GOFs and determine the content of functional groups. Interestingly, different GO samples present the same pKa values in titration, and the results are consistent with the predicted ones. Based on the evidence from titration and calculation, prominent correlations between functional groups could be found. Groups at the edges are mainly double-interactive carboxyls (pKa1 ≈ 3.4, pKa2 ≈ 5.7) and double-adjacent phenolic hydroxyls (pKa1 ≈ 8.8, pKa2 ≈ 12.1), while groups on the plane are mainly collocated epoxies and hydroxyls (pKa1 ≈ 11.1, pKa2 ≈ 13.8) on both sides of the plane with a meta-positional hydrogen bond interaction. These findings were further validated by multiple characterizations and GO modifications. These results not only stimulate a fundamental understanding of the GO structure but also provide a quantitative analysis method for functional groups on GO.

Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) are classified as category one toxicants. The provisional guideline values, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), for Cd and Pb are 3 and 10 ppb, respectively. An easy, quick, and cheap analytical technique is in demand for the determination of these toxic heavy metals in water. Hence, a novel electrochemical sensing platform is developed by modifying the glassy carbon electrode with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-functionalized reduced graphene oxide (ErGO) for the low-cost simultaneous quantitation of toxic heavy-metal ions, lead and cadmium, in real water samples. EDTA is grafted to the surface of graphene oxide, via amine linkage, and the oxygen functionality is reduced by a green agent, tyrosine. Various physical and electrochemical characterizations of the as-prepared electrocatalytic material were performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), ζ-potential, ultraviolet diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), etc. The glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is modified with ErGO by a simple drop-casting method for simultaneous metal-ion quantitation by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). EDTA functionalization of graphene oxide and its further reduction using the green agent enhance the stability and sensitivity of the electrode substrate. The limits of detection for cadmium and lead ions calculated for ErGO/GCE are 1.02 and 2.52 ppb, while the limits of quantification for lead and cadmium ions are 3.41 and 8.4 ppb, and their sensitivities are 0.8 and 0.6 nA/ppb, respectively. Real river water contains 200.2 ± 0.38 ppb of Pb2+ ions (mean ± stdev, n = 3) by the DPV technique, which is validated by ICP-OES analysis.

Abstract
Rapid growth of nanotechnology has accelerated immense possibility of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) exposure by human and living organisms. In this context, wide range applications of graphene based nanomaterials (GBNMs) may inevitably cause their release into the environment. Consequently, potential risks to the ecological system and human health is consistently increasing due to the probable ingestion of GBNMs by mean of contaminated water or food sources. Further, gut microbiome is known to play a profound impact on the health status of human being and has been recognized as the most exciting advancement in the biomedical science. Recent studies has shown vital role of ENMs to alter gut microbiome and thereby changed pathological status of organisms. Therefore, in this review results of numerous studies dedicated to explore the impact of GBNMs on gut microbiome and thereby various pathological status have been summarized. Dietary exposure of different types of GBNMs [e.g. graphene, graphene oxide (GO), partially reduced graphene oxide (PRGO), graphene quantum dots (GQDs)] have been evaluated on the gut microbiome through numerous in vitro and in vivo models. Moreover, emphasis has been made to evaluate different physiological responses with the short/long-term exposure of GBNMs, particularly in gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and its correlation with gut microbiome and the health status. It is reviewed that exposure of GBNMs can exert significant impact which alter the composition, diversity and function of gut microbiome. This may further appear in terms of enteric disorder along with numerous pathological changes e.g. IEC (intestinal epithelial cells) colitis, lysosomal dysfunction, inflammation, shortened colon, resorbed embryo, retardation in skeletal development, low weight of fetus, early or late dead of fetus and IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) like symptoms. Finally, potential health risks due to the exposure of GBNMs have been discussed with future perspective.

Abstract
The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of metal-oxide-based regular perovskite solar cells have been higher than 25% for more than 2 years. Up to now, the PCEs of polymer-based inverted perovskite solar cells are widely lower than 23%. PEDOT:PSS thin films, modified PTAA thin films and P3CT thin films are widely used as the hole transport layer or hole modification layer of the highlyefficient inverted perovskite solar cells. Compared with regular perovskite solar cells, polymer-based inverted perovskite solar cells can be fabricated under relatively low temperatures. However, the intrinsic characteristics of carrier transportation in the two types of solar cells are different, which limits the photovoltaic performance of inverted perovskite solar cells. Thanks to the low activation energies for the formation of high-quality perovskite crystalline thin films, it is possible to manipulate the optoelectronic properties by controlling the crystal orientation with the different polymer-modified ITO/glass substrates. To achieve the higher PCE, the effects of polymer-modified ITO/glass substrates on the optoelectronic properties and the formation of perovskite crystalline thin films have to be completely understood simultaneously.

Abstract
The wafer-scale integration of graphene is of great importance in view of its numerous applications proposed or underway. A good graphene–silicon interface requires the fine control of several parameters and may turn into a high-cost material, suitable for the most advanced applications. Procedures that can be of great use for a wide range of applications are already available, but others are to be found, in order to modulate the offer of different types of materials, at different levels of sophistication and use. We have been exploring different electrochemical approaches over the last 5 years, starting from graphene oxide and resulting in graphene deposited on silicon-oriented surfaces, with the aim of understanding the reactions leading to the re-establishment of the graphene network. Here, we report how a proper choice of both the chemical environment and electrochemical conditions can lead to a more controlled and tunable graphene–Si(111) interface. This can also lead to a deeper understanding of the electrochemical reactions involved in the evolution of graphene oxide to graphene under electrochemical reduction. Results from XPS, the most suitable tool to follow the presence and fate of functional groups at the graphene surface, are reported, together with electrochemical and Raman findings.
