Magnetite graphene oxide-albumin conjugate: carrier for the imatinib anticancer drug

Carbon nanomaterials are widely used in biomedical applications due to their versatile properties. These are the attractive candidates for the carrying of anticancer drugs, genes, and proteins for chemotherapy. Imatinib is an effective chemotherapy drug whose toxicity has created a significant limitation in treatment. In this research, a new biocompatible nanocarrier based on albumin-magnetite graphene oxide conjugates was reported for the loading and release of imatinib. The magnetite graphene oxide nanocomposite was investigated by ultra violet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) and energy diepersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) methods. The crystallite size of Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles on graphene oxide obtained from XRD is about 14 nm which is in agreement well with the SEM results. We show that magnetite graphene oxide conjugated with albumin is an extremely efficient carrier. An efficient loading of IM, 81% at pH 7.0, time 2 h and initial concentration of 1 mg/mL was seen onto magnetite graphene oxide-albumin in comparison to graphene oxide and magnetite graphene oxide due to the presence of oxygen and nitrogen functional groups of albumin. Upon the pH 9.0 and 7.0, 7% and 16% imatinib could be released from the magnetite graphene oxide-albumin in a time span of 5 h but when exposed pH 4.0 the corresponding 31% was released in 5 h. After 20 h, 21, 42 and 68% of imatinib was released at pH 9.0, 7.0 and 4.0, respectively. This illustrates the major benefits of the developed approach for biomedical applications.

A carbon based-screen-printed electrode amplified with two-dimensional reduced graphene/Fe3O4 nanocomposite as electroanalytical sensor for monitoring 4-aminophenol in environmental fluids

The analysis water pollutants are so important strategy for investigation of water quality. On the other hand, 4-aminophenol is known as a hazardous and high-risk compound for humans, and its detection and measurement is very important for investigating the quality of surface and groundwater. In this study, graphene/Fe₃O₄ nanocomposite was synthesized by a simple chemical method and characterized by EDS and TEM methods and results showed Nano spherical shape of Fe₃O₄ nanoparticle with diameter about 20 nM decorated at surface of 2D reduce graphene nanosheet (2D-rG-Fe₃O₄). The 2D-rG-Fe₃O₄ was used as excellent catalyst at surface of carbon-based screen-printed electrode (CSPE) and used as electroanalytical sensor in monitoring and determination of 4-aminophenol in waste water sample. The results confirmed improving ∼4.0 times in oxidation signal and reducing 120 mV in oxidation potential of 4-aminophenol at surface of 2D-rG-Fe₃O₄/CSPE compare to CSPE, respectively. The electrochemical investigation showed pH dependence behavior with equal value of electron and proton for -aminophenol at surface of 2D-rG-Fe₃O₄/CSPE. Using square wave voltammetry method (SWV), the 2D-rG-Fe₃O₄/CSPE successfully monitored 4-aminophenol in the concentration range 1.0 nM-200 μM. Finally, 2D-rG-Fe₃O₄/CSPE monitored 4-aminophenol in the different environmental fluids such as urban waste water, industrial waste water and river samples with recovery range 97.2%-104.3% that confirm powerful ability of 2D-rG-Fe₃O₄/CSPE as analytical tool.

Advances in magnetic field-assisted electrolyte's physicochemical properties and electrokinetic parameters: A case study on the response ability of chloramphenicol on Fe3O4@carbon spheres-based electrochemical nanosensor

Despite the utilization of external magnetic field (MF) in promoting the intrinsic unique features of magnetic nanomaterials in many different applications has been reported, however the origin of MF-dependent electrochemical behaviors as well as the electrochemical response of analytes at the electrode in sensor applications is still not clear. In this report, the influence of MF on the electrolyte's physicochemical properties (polarization, mass transport, charge/electron transfer) and electrode's properties (conductivity, morphology, surface area, interaction, adsorption capability, electrocatalytic ability) was thoroughly investigated. Herein, the working electrode surface was modified with carbon spheres (CSs), magnetic nanoparticles (Fe₃O₄NPs), and their nanocomposites (Fe₃O₄@CSs), respectively. Then, they were directly used to enhance the electrochemical characteristics and response-ability of chloramphenicol (CAP). More interestingly, a series of various kinetic parameters related to the diffusion-controlled process of K₃[Fe(CN)₆]/K₄[Fe(CN)₆)] and the adsorption-controlled process of CAP were calculated at the bare electrode and the modified electrodes with and without the presence of MF. These parameters not only exhibit the crucial role of the modification of electrode surface with the proposed materials but also show positive impacts of the presence of external MF. Besides, the mechanism and hypothesis for the enhancements were proposed and discussed in detail, further demonstrating the development potential of using Fe₃O₄@CS nanocomposites with MF assistant for advanced energy, environmental, and sensor related-applications.

A new electroanalytical approach for sunset yellow monitoring in fruit juices based on a modified sensor amplified with nano-catalyst and ionic liquid

The determination of food additives is one of the major points in the food industry that directly is relative to human health. This research work focused on sensing and monitoring sunset yellow as azo additive dyes in fruit juices using an electrochemical sensor amplified with Ni doped Pt decorated carbon nanotubes (NiO/Pt/CNTs) as nano-catalyst and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([HMIM][Cl]) as an ionic liquid binder. Carbon paste electrode (CPE) amplified with NiO/Pt/CNTs and [HMIM][Cl] (CPE/([HMIM][Cl])/NiO/Pt/CNTs) improved the sensitivity of sunset yellow sensing in aqueous solution in acidic condition and successfully monitored this azo dye in concentration range 1.0 nM-280 μM with detection limit 0.4 nM. On the other hand, the CPE/([HMIM][Cl])/NiO/Pt/CNTs was used for sensing and analysis of sunset yellow in different fruit juices, and recovery data between 98.65% and 103.66% confirmed the powerful ability of sensor for monitoring of sunset yellow in food samples.
