Solvothermal Preparation of a Lanthanide Metal-Organic Framework for Highly Sensitive Discrimination of Nitrofurantoin and l-Tyrosine

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been rapidly developed for their broad applications in many different chemistry and materials fields. In this work, a multi-dentate building block 5-(4-(tetrazol-5-yl)phenyl)-isophthalic acid (H₃L) containing tetrazole and carbolxylate moieties was employed for the synthesis of a two-dimensional (2D) lanthanide MOF [La(HL)(DMF)₂(NO₃)] (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) (1) under solvothermal condition. The fluorescent sensing application of 1 was investigated. 1 exhibits high sensitivity recognition for antibiotic nitrofurantoin (K_sv: 3.0 × 10³ M⁻¹ and detection limit: 17.0 μM) and amino acid l-tyrosine (K_sv: 1.4 × 10⁴ M⁻¹ and detection limit: 3.6 μM). This work provides a feasible detection platform of 2D MOFs for highly sensitive discrimination of antibiotics and amino acids.

Isomeric Scandium-Organic Frameworks with High Hydrolytic Stability and Selective Adsorption of Acetylene

Two solvent-controlled topological isomers of scandium-organic frameworks [Sc(Hpzc)(pzc)]·DMF·2H₂O (1·DMF·2H₂O) and [Sc(Hpzc)(pzc)]·DMA·4H₂O (2·DMA·4H₂O) were synthesized using 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylate (pzc^2-) (DMF = dimethylformamide; DMA = dimethylacetamide). Despite the isomeric nature of the obtained metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), they possess different structural features and unique adsorption properties toward gases and iodine. The compound 1 has widely spread among MOF structures a dia topology with ultranarrow channels, which together with inner surface functionalization leads to enhanced CO₂ adsorption and high selectivity factors in CO₂/CH₄ and CO₂/N₂ gas mixtures (25.9 and 35.6, respectively, 1/1 v/v). Moreover, a rare preferable adsorption of CO₂ over C₂H₂ was demonstrated. The biporous isomeric framework 2 has a crb topology inherent in zeolites. A remarkable adsorption affinity to C₂H₂ with the ideal adsorbed solution theory selectivity factor of 127.1 for a C₂H₂/C₂H₄ mixture (1/99 v/v) was achieved for 2. Both compounds have exceptional chemical stability in a wide range of pH from acidic to basic media.

Influence of Substituents in Terephthalate Linker on the Structure of MOFs Obtained from Presynthesized Heterometallic Complex

The synthesis of new porous materials with desired properties is a challenging task. It becomes especially difficult if you need to combine several metals in one framework to obtain a heterometallic node. The use of presynthesized complexes for obtaining of new heterometallic metal–organic frameworks could be essential to solve the problem of tailored synthesis. In our study we use presynthesized heterometallic pivalate complex [Li2Zn2(piv)6(py)2] to obtain new MOFs with heterometallic core as a node of the framework. We are managed to obtain four new heterometallic MOFs: [H2N(CH3)2]2[Li2Zn2(bdc)4]·CH3CN·DMF (1), [Li2Zn2(H2Br2-bdc)(Br2-bdc)3]·2DMF (2), [H2N(CH3)2][LiZn2(ndc)3]·CH3CN (3) and [{Li2Zn2(dmf)(py)2}{LiZn(dmf)2}2 (NO2-bdc)6]·5DMF (4). Moreover three of them contain starting tetranuclear core {Li2Zn2} and saves its geometry. We also demonstrate the influence of substituent in terephthalate ring on preservation of tetranuclear core. For compound 1 it was shown that luminescence of the framework could be quenched when nitrobenzene is included in the pores.

Heterometallic MOFs constructed from thiophene and furandicarboxylate ligands for heavy metal luminescence sensing

A series of heterometallic porous MOFs were rationally designed from preorganized molecular complexes for heavy metal cation luminescence detection.

Molecular and Polymer Ln2M2 (Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy; M = Zn, Cd) Complexes with Pentafluorobenzoate Anions: The Role of Temperature and Stacking Effects in the Structure; Magnetic and Luminescent Properties

Varying the temperature of the reaction of [{Cd(pfb)(H2O)4}+n·n(pfb)-], [Ln2(pfb)6(H2O)8]·H2O (Hpfb = pentafluorobenzoic acid), and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in MeCN followed by crystallization resulted in the isolation of two type of products: 1D-polymers [LnCd(pfb)5(phen)]n·1.5nMeCN (Ln = Eu (I), Gd (II), Tb (III), Dy (IV)) which were isolated at 25 °C, and molecular compounds [Tb2Cd2(pfb)10(phen)2] (V) formed at 75 °C. The transition from a molecular to a polymer structure becomes possible because of intra- and intermolecular interactions between the aromatic cycles of phen and pfb from neighboring tetranuclear Ln2Cd2 fragments. Replacement of cadmium with zinc in the reaction resulted in molecular compounds Ln2Zn2 [Ln2Zn2(pfb)10(phen)2]·4MeCN (Ln = Eu (VI), Tb (VIII), Dy (IX)) and [Gd2Zn2(pfb)10(H2O)2(phen)2]·4MeCN (VII). A new molecular EuCd complex [Eu2Cd2(pfb)10(phen)4]·4MeCN (X)] was isolated from a mixture of cadmium, zinc, and europium pentafluorobenzoates (Cd:Zn:Ln = 1:1:2). Complexes II-IV, VII and IX exhibit magnetic relaxation at liquid helium temperatures in nonzero magnetic fields. Luminescent studies revealed a bright luminescence of complexes with europium(III) and terbium(III) ions.
