Abstract
PURPOSE (i) Characterize ultra-processed food (UPF) intakes in toddlerhood and mid-childhood, including identifying principal UPF sub-groups and associations with nutrient profile; (ii) explore stability and change in UPF intake between toddlerhood and mid-childhood. METHODS Data were from children in the UK Gemini twin cohort at 21 months (n = 2,591) and 7 years (n = 592) of age. UPF intakes were estimated using diet diaries and Nova classification. Complex samples general linear or logistic regression models were used to explore associations between UPF intake, UPF sub-groups and nutrients, and changes in intake over time. RESULTS The contribution of UPF to total energy was 46.9% (± 14.7) at 21 months and 59.4% (± 12.5) at 7 years. Principal UPF sub-groups were yogurts, higher-fiber breakfast cereals, and wholegrain breads in toddlerhood, and puddings and sweet cereal products and white breads in mid-childhood. At both ages, mean free sugar and sodium intakes exceeded recommended maximums and higher UPF consumption was associated with consuming more of each nutrient (P < 0.001). UPF intake was negatively associated with fat, saturated fat and protein intake in toddlerhood, and fiber intake in mid-childhood (P < 0.001). Being in the highest UPF intake quintile in toddlerhood was predictive of being in the highest quintile in mid-childhood (OR 9.40, 95%CI 3.94-22.46). CONCLUSIONS UPF accounted for nearly half of toddlers' energy, increasing to 59% in mid-childhood. Higher UPF consumers had higher intakes of free sugar and sodium. UPF intake in toddlerhood was predictive of mid-childhood intake. Effective policies are needed to reduce UPF intakes in the early years.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW This systematic review aimed to examine existing evidence related to associations between eating behaviours and dietary intake in children and adolescents, with a focus on the Children Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ) and the Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (DEBQ) as assessment tools. RECENT FINDING We conducted a systematic review following PRISMA guidelines. We included observational and interventional studies published in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, that evaluated the association between eating behaviours and food and beverage intake. Thirteen studies from nine countries met the inclusion criteria, with sample sizes ranging from 62 to 4,914 individuals aged 2 to 16 years-old. Ten studies used the CEBQ, and three used the DEBQ. Our retrieved studies showed that children and adolescents engaging in food approach behaviours tend to consume foods rich in sugar and fats. However, we observed a higher consumption of fruits and vegetables. On the other hand, children and adolescents with lower engagement to food avoidant behaviours, generally exhibited a lower overall food consumption, except for snacks, which they consumed at a higher rate. This systematic review suggests that eating behaviours play an important role in shaping dietary intake. Nevertheless, due to the heterogeneity related to eating behaviours and diet intake, it highlights the need for further research to understand these complex relationships to develop effective interventions for promoting healthy eating habits in children and adolescents.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to initially adopt an International Healthy Eating Report Card for Preschool-Aged Children to assess the prevalence of healthy eating behaviours and favourable family home food environments (FHFEs) among preschool-aged children in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the US. We also examined which cultural contexts would exhibit significant differences in the report card scores among the four cultural contexts. Methods In this cross-cultural study, 2059 parent-child dyads, with approximately 500 dyads in each cultural context, were recruited. The parents were asked to complete the validated International Healthy Eating Report Card Scale to assess the dimensions of the Report Card [i.e., Indicator of Children's Eating Behaviours: (1) Children's Dietary Patterns and (2) Children's Mealtime Behaviours, and Indicator of FHFEs: (3) Parental Food Choices and Preparation, (4) Home Healthier Food Availability and Accessibility and (5) Family Mealtime Environments]. Each indicator received a letter grade [i.e., A (≥80%) = excellent, B (60-79%) = good, C (40-59%) = fair, D (20-39%) = poor, F (<20%) = very poor and including the plus (+) and minus (-) signs] to represent the proportion of participants who could meet the predefined benchmarks. We also employed ANCOVA and Bonferroni's post-hoc test to examine the differences in the report card scores between the four cultural contexts. A significance level was set at p < 0.05. Results The average overall report card grade across the four cultural contexts was "B-" (Good), ranging from "C+" (Singapore and the US) to "B-" (Australia and Hong Kong). The average grade for Children's Eating Behaviours was classified as Fair ("C-"), while the average grade for FHFEs was classified as Good ("B+") for all cultural contexts. A comparison of the overall report card scores revealed that Australia exhibited a significantly higher report card score than Singapore and the US, while Hong Kong achieved a significantly higher score than Singapore. Conclusion The International Healthy Eating Report Card provided an overview of the prevalence of healthy eating in different cultural contexts. We believe that the International Healthy Eating Report Card may offer new perspectives on interventions for fostering healthy eating in young children.

Abstract
PURPOSE Child appetitive traits, eating styles that reflect responsiveness to external influences and internal hunger and satiety signals, are associated with eating behaviors and susceptibility to excess weight gain. However, relatively little is known about early life influences on child appetitive traits. This study investigated relations of early life maternal feeding behaviors and food exposures with appetitive traits at age 3.5 years. METHODS Participants of the Pregnancy Eating Attributes Study (PEAS) and follow-up study were enrolled in early pregnancy and followed prospectively. This analysis included data collected from baseline through child aged 3.5-years (n = 160). Child appetitive traits at age 3.5 years were measured using the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire. Age at introduction to fruit, vegetables, discretionary sweets, and discretionary savory foods was assessed, along with intake frequency at infant ages 6, 9, and 12 months, and 2 years. Maternal feeding to soothe was assessed at child aged 3, 6, and 12 months. Maternal permissive feeding was assessed at child aged 2 years. Multiple linear regressions estimated relations of maternal feeding behaviors and infant food exposures with child appetitive traits at age 3.5 years, controlling for sociodemographics and breastfeeding duration. RESULTS Maternal feeding to soothe at 6 (r = 0.39, p < 0.001) and 12 months (r = 0.39, p < 0.001) was positively associated with permissive feeding at 2 years. Maternal feeding to soothe at 12 months and permissive feeding at 2 years were associated with greater child emotional overeating, emotional undereating, and desire to drink. Older age at introduction to fruit (β = 0.20±0.08, p = 0.01) and younger age at introduction to discretionary sweet foods (β = -0.07±0.04, p = 0.06) were associated with greater emotional overeating. Older age at introduction to vegetables (β = 0.22±0.11, p = 0.04) and less frequent feeding of fruit (β = -0.20±0.08, p = 0.01) were associated with greater food fussiness. CONCLUSIONS Associations of emotional eating with parent feeding behaviors and early life food exposures suggest the potential for interventions targeting early life feeding to have long-term impact on child appetitive traits and diet quality.

Abstract
Early nutrition plays a crucial role not only in providing essential nutrients for proper child development, but may also be an important step in creating desirable eating behaviors, which can be transmitted into adulthood. The aim of this study was to assess possible links between early feeding factors, such as breastfeeding, complementary feeding (timing and method) as well as types of complementary foods and mealtime environment during the first three months of complementary feeding and eating behaviors in children aged 1–3 years old. This cross-sectional, online survey involved 467 mothers of toddlers aged 1–3 years old from the whole of Poland. The questionnaire consisted of questions about early feeding and the Children’s Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ). The adjusted linear regression model revealed that longer duration of any breastfeeding was negatively related to enjoyment of food (EF), desire to drink (DD) and positively related to satiety responsiveness (SR) and slowness in eating (SE) subscales. Moreover, offering homemade complementary foods more often than commercial may be related to higher SR. Eating meals during distraction seems to be negatively associated with EF, and positively with DD and SE subscales. Our study highlights possible links between early feeding factors and toddlers’ eating behaviors, so further investigation, also including dietary factors, is needed.
