Abstract
Background and Purpose: Vitamin D can both stimulate and inhibit adipogenesis, indicating that associations of the vitamin D level with some metabolic disorders may be nonlinear. This cross-sectional study aims to explore potential nonlinear associations of the 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] level with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components. Methods: Adults without previously diagnosed specific noncommunicable disease were selected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017-2018 (n = 870). Their demographic, physical, and laboratory data were obtained. The associations of serum 25(OH)D with MetS and its components were analyzed using logistic regression. Restricted cubic spline was applied to flexibly model the nonlinear association if the nonlinearity test was statistically significant. Results: The 25(OH)D level was inversely associated with risk of MetS [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 0.986; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.978-0.993] and most MetS components, but not with the risk of raised triglycerides (adjusted OR = 0.996; 95% CI = 0.988-1.005). The association of serum 25(OH)D with central obesity risk was significantly nonlinear (P for the nonlinearity test: 0.037). The OR for risk of central obesity decreased rapidly with increase in serum 25(OH)D concentration until the concentration reached 50 nmol/L, and then, the intensity of decrease in OR slowed down. Conclusions: Vitamin D is inversely associated with MetS, but not all MetS components. A nonlinear association between the vitamin D level and risk of central obesity has been found for the first time among the adult population, which reflects the complex roles of vitamin D in lipid metabolism. Although vitamin D deficiency (<50 nmol/L) was defined to avoid abnormal calcium and phosphorus metabolism, preventing its deficiency may also be beneficial for reduction of central obesity risk.

Abstract
Metabolic disorders are a public health problem worldwide. The vitamin D status in patients with metabolic diseases is not a routine procedure. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and examine the correlation between vitamin D status and cardiometabolic parameters in Latin American population with metabolic disorders.

Abstract
Background: Vitamin D is one of the known lipoprotein hormones with metabolic properties. We aimed to determine the serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D concentration in overweight/obese subjects with diabetes mellitus type Ⅱ (DM Ⅱ) in association with systolic and diastolic blood pressure and quality of life compared with healthy participants. Methods: The current case-control study was carried out among 80 overweight/obese subjects with DM Ⅱ, and 77 healthy subjects matched by sex, age and body mass index (BMI). Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration was measured by ELISA method. In order to examine the quality of life, the Persian version of SF36 questionnaire was used. Results: There was significant difference between diabetic and healthy subjects considering serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration (p=0.012). Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration was inversely correlated with diastolic blood pressure (p=0.02) and positively associated with physical function (p<0.001), social function (p<0.001) and general health (p<0.001) components of quality of life in diabetic subjects and physical health sub-scale (p=0.004) in all participants. Conclusion: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration was significantly lower in diabetic subjects in comparison with healthy controls. There was a significant reverse relationship between serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D with diastolic blood pressure and on the other hand, a significant positive relationship with physical function, social function and general health components and physical health subscale of quality of life in participants with DM Ⅱ.

Abstract
BACKGROUND More than 50% of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) also have hypertension. Moreover, hypertension has been regarded as one paraneoplastic phenomenon of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our study was designed to determine the relationship between blood pressure and DM in HCC patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 879 HCC patients were included and 151 (17.2%) were diagnosed with DM. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to determine the relationship and the results were expressed as adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Considering the effect of potential confounders, sub-group analysis was performed. We would further study the association of systolic blood pressure (SBP) with fasting glucose, and the association between DM duration/treatment and SBP level. RESULTS Compared with non-diabetic patients, the diabetic patients had increased levels of SBP (133.7±18.5 mmHg vs 128.3±15.2 mmHg, P=0.001) and fasting blood glucose (9.13±3.04 mmol/L vs 5.18±1.08 mmol/L, P<0.001), an elder age (58.5±10.2 years vs 55.3±11.2 years, P=0.001), a higher percentage of cirrhosis diagnosis (60.9% vs 48.2%, P=0.004), lower percentages of drinking (18.5% vs 30.8%, P=0.002) and smoking (30.5% vs 43.7%, P=0.003), and decreased levels of GGT (median/interquartile-range 88/53-177 U/L vs 117/58-248 U/L, P=0.037), platelet count (121.4±76.6 ×109/L vs 151.2±82.8 ×109/L, P<0.001) and hemoglobin (124.3±25.5 g/L vs 133.6±24.2 g/L, P<0.001). Multivariable analysis showed that, statistically significant differences were found for SBP ≥140 mmHg (AOR=2.101; 95% CI, 1.424-3.100; P<0.001), smoking (AOR=0.637; 95% CI, 0.415-0.979; P=0.040), hemoglobin (AOR=0.990; 95% CI, 0.983-0.998; P=0.010) and platelet count (AOR=0.996; 95% CI, 0.994-0.999; P=0.009). For the relationship between SBP and DM, the positive result was supported by most (10/14) of the subgroup analyses. CONCLUSION SBP level was increased in HCC patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the correlations between serum 25(OH) vitamin D and anthropometric and metabolic parameters in adult outpatients of both sexes with different BMI coming from an urban community. SUBJECTS AND METHODS 264 subjects referred for obesity assessment participated - 109 men and 155 women (20-60 years). Body weight and height, waist circumference (WC), blood pressure were recorded. Body composition was assessed by bioelectrical impedance (BIA) on a Tanita BC 420 MA analyzer (Tanita Inc., Japan). Serum 25(OH)D Total, Insulin, High-sensitivity C-reactive protein, blood glucose, total, HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides were measured. The insulin resistance index was calculated (HOMA-IR). Participants with BMI>25.0 kg/m2 underwent standard 75 g OGTT. Statistical analysis was performed on an IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0 for Windows platform (Chicago, IL). RESULTS Normal weight was found in 27.2 % of the participants, 24.6 % had overweight, 29.2 % -class I obesity, and 18.9 % - class II or III. Vitamin D was weakly and inversely correlated to different variables in the whole group - such as weight, WC, WC/Height, % body fat and HOMA-IR index (r=-0.231, -0.283, -0.307, -0.339, -0.328 respectively, all p<0.001). Building subgroups based on BMI led to loss of significance. Backward analysis revealed Total-C/LDL-C ratio, and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio as strongest predictors of serum vitamin D (p=0.001; R2=0.204). CONCLUSION The association of vitamin D with blood pressure, plasma lipids, glucose and insulin is very weak on an individual level. However, several obesity indices (WC, WC/height ratio, % Body fat from BIA) might be used as a screening tool for subjects at risk for vitamin D deficiency.

Abstract
AIMS To evaluate nutritional and metabolic parameters associated with vitamin D status and blood pressure (BP) in type 2 diabetes and hypertensive patients. METHODS BP evaluated by office and 24-h ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM). Physical activity was evaluated by daily step count, body composition by DXA, and diet by a food frequency questionnaire. RESULTS 116 patients were evaluated and median 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was 21 (16-27) ng/ml; 43% deficient (<20 ng/ml). Vitamin D deficiency was associated with higher systolic ABPM (136 ± 10 vs. 130 ± 13 mmHg; P = 0.01) and daytime ABPM (138 ± 11 vs. 133 ± 13 mmHg; P = 0.02), lower step counts (4400 [2700-6600] vs. 6400 [4700-8100] steps/day), lower urinary calcium (47 [32-141] vs. 89 [68-152] mEq), and higher fat mass (31 ± 8 vs. 27 ± 6.5 kg). Milk intake (37 vs. 64%; P = 0.009) and fish (31 vs. 69%; P < 0.001) were lower in deficients. On multivariate analysis, adjusted for fat mass and colder seasons, <5000 steps/day (OR = 3.30; 95%CI 1.34-8.12), no milk/fish intake (OR = 6.56; 95%CI 2.52-17.17), and both (OR = 7.24; 95%CI 2.19-23.90) remained associated with vitamin D deficiency. CONCLUSIONS Vitamin D deficiency was highly prevalent in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes and associated with higher systolic ABPM (daytime and 24-h), less physical activity, and no milk or fish intake.

Abstract
Background: According to the recent studies, vitamin D deficiency has been correlated with progress in type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of vitamin D supplementation on glucose and lipid profiles, blood pressure, and biomarkers of liver and kidney in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: In this Double blinded randomized clinical trial, 90 patients with type 2 diabetes and serum 25-Hydroxy vitamin D levels of less than 30 ng/ml recruited from "Besat Diabetes Clinic" in Rasht, North of Iran. The subjects took 50000 IU vitamin D supplements or placebo for 8 weeks. We assessed the levels of serum 25 (OH) vitamin D, glucose and lipid profiles, oxidative and inflammatory indices, liver and kidney biomarkers, blood pressure, and sun exposure time, physical activity before and after intervention, and compared them between cases and controls. Results: Vitamin D supplementation significantly increased serum vitamin D level, Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) activity, and significantly decreased serum HbA1C (Glycosylated Hemoglobin) level (p<0.001). High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) Cholesterol increased significantly (p=0.016), and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) significantly decreased (p=0.039) after the intervention. Conclusion: Our results represented that weekly supplementation with 50000 IU vitamin D for 8 weeks may be effective by improving HbA1C and lipid profile in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
