A retroperitoneal sigmoid colon perforation presenting with cervical surgical emphysema secondary to abscess rupture through the lumbar triangle of Petit into the posterior paraspinal muscle compartment has not been previously described. We report a case where previously ingested barium clearly demonstrates this unusual pathway.

Diverticular perforation masquerading as maxillary sinusitis

Although diverticular perforation and diverticulitis is usually a straightforward diagnosis, an occasional case can be difficult. In this report, we describe a patient who initially presented with symptoms suggestive of maxillary sinusitis and hip fracture. Findings of subcutaneous craniofacial emphysema eventually led to the diagnosis of a perforated sigmoid diverticulum with abscess.

Subcutaneous emphysema: An uncommon presentation of enterocutaneous fistula

Patients with advanced cancer often develop enterocutaneous fistulae. The enterocutaneous fistulae usually develop from gastrointestinal malignancies. We describe a case report of a patient with schwannoma of the ovarian cyst wall who developed enterocutaneous fistula but presented with subcutaneous emphysema.
