Abstract
BACKGROUND Daratumumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody approved for the treatment of adult patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). Subcutaneous (SC) formulation proved to be non-inferior in comparison with intravenous (IV) administration route. This study aimed at assessing the economic and time impact associated with the use of SC versus IV daratumumab in patients with RRMM from the perspective of the hematology center. METHODS This was a 5-month multicenter time-and-motion cross-sectional micro-costing study conducted in three Italian hematology centers among adult patients diagnosed with RRMM with ongoing treatment with IV or SC daratumumab. Measurements were performed by an ad hoc App. RESULTS Nineteen (20%) IV and 76 (80%) SC administration procedures were measured. Patients spent a mean of 4.85 ± 0.91 or 1.08 ± 0.56 h in the hematology center to receive IV or SC daratumumab, respectively. Healthcare professionals (HCPs) spent a mean of 49.38 ± 16.13 and 20.37 ± 7.88 min of active working time to manage IV and SC administrations, respectively. The infusion chair was occupied for a mean of 4.85 ± 0.91 and 0.99 ± 0.55 h during IV or SC administration, respectively. On average, considering the costs due to HCP and chair time, materials, and overhead costs, every IV and SC administration costed €80.33 and 34.90, respectively. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, as compared with IV administration, SC daratumumab was associated with 78%, 59%, 80% savings in terms of patient time, HCP active working time, and infusion chair, respectively, and 56.6% budget savings.

The Lübeck Medication Satisfaction Questionnaire—A Novel Measurement Tool for Therapy Satisfaction. J Pers Med 2023; 13:jpm13030505. Abstract
Background: Therapy satisfaction is widely considered an important aspect of clinical care. Still, there are currently no freely available questionnaires for its measurement. We developed the Lübeck Medication Satisfaction Questionnaire (LMSQ) for that purpose. Here, we present its content and psychometric properties. Methods: The LMSQ was validated on 86 patients in a single center study. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test, confirmatory factor analysis, covariance analysis, and a test of exact fit were performed. Reliability was tested using Cronbach’s α and McDonald’s ω. The relationship to other patient-reported outcomes was tested using Pearson’s correlation. Results: Confirmatory factors analysis yielded moderate factor loadings with p < 0.001 in all subscales. Reliability was adequate (α = 0.857 and ω = 0.872). Model fitness was excellent in all tests. The LMSQ was positively correlated with medication adherence (r = 0.603, p < 0.001) and most dimensions of health literacy. Conclusions: The LMSQ possesses adequate psychometric properties for its purpose. We recommend further validation in a more diverse patient collective.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Satisfaction with epilepsy surgery in Mandarin-speaking countries remains unknown. We aimed to validate in our Taiwanese patients an existing instrument to measure patient satisfaction with epilepsy surgery, the 19-item Epilepsy Surgery Satisfaction Questionnaire (ESSQ-19). METHODS Consecutive patients with epilepsy who received epilepsy surgery one year earlier in Taipei Veterans General Hospital were recruited and provided clinical and demographic data. The Mandarin version of the ESSQ-19 for the Taiwanese population and eight other questionnaires were completed to assess construct validity. To evaluate the validity and reliability of the tool, the data were analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis, Spearman's rank correlation, and internal consistency analysis. RESULTS The study involved 120 patients (70 F/50 M, median age 35 years [IQR = 28-41]). The mean summary score (±SD) of the Tw-ESSQ-19 was 82.5 ± 14.5. The mean scores of the four domains were 90.3 ± 15.4 (surgical complications), 83.2 ± 16.7 (seizure control), 80.1 ± 17.3 (recovery from surgery), and 76.6 ± 18.3 (psychosocial functioning). The questionnaire was shown to have good construct validity with satisfactory goodness-of-fit of the data (standardized root mean square residual = 0.0492; comparative fit index = 0.946). It also demonstrated good discriminant validity (being seizure free [AUC 0.78; 95% CI 0.68-0.89], endorsing depression [AUC 0.84; 95% CI 0.76-0.91], self-rating epilepsy as disabling [AUC 0.71; 95% CI 0.58-0.84], and self-rating epilepsy as severe [AUC 0.78; 95% CI 0.64-0.93]), high internal consistency in four domains (Cronbach's alpha = 0.83-0.96), and no significant floor/ceiling effects of the summary score. SIGNIFICANCE The Mandarin version of the ESSQ-19 adapted for the Taiwanese population is a reliable and valid self-reported questionnaire for assessing patient satisfaction with epilepsy surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of medication therapy management interventions on drug therapy problems (DTPs), medication adherence and treatment satisfaction among ambulatory heart failure (HF) patients. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS A one-group pre-post quasi-experimental study was conducted on 423 ambulatory HF patients at Tikur Anbessa Specialised Hospital (TASH), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. All ambulatory HF patients ≥18 years old attending the adult cardiac clinic of TASH and having a complete medical record and fully met the inclusion criteria were taken as study participants. INTERVENTIONS Educational interventions along with a brochure with information on the nature of HF disease and its treatment were provided to study participants. DTPs encountered were resolved by a team of pharmacists and physicians. RESULTS In the preintervention phase, 288 DTPs were identified with a mean (SD) of 1.3±1.1. A significant reduction of DTPs (0.67±1.1, p<0.001) was observed in the postintervention phase compared with the preintervention phase. At the postintervention phase, 36.4%, 61.9% and 1.7% of HF patients were highly, medium and low adherent to their treatment regimens, respectively. The total composite score for treatment satisfaction of the study participants was 80.35%. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study demonstrated that by teaming up clinical pharmacists with cardiologists and cardiology fellows, it was possible to reduce the occurrence of DTPs, improve medication adherence and increase treatment satisfaction of HF patients attending at the outpatient cardiac clinic.

Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate an emergency nursing-care patient satisfaction scale to measure patient satisfaction with emergency room (ER) nursing. Patient satisfaction scales for ER nursing have been validated without considering the perspectives of the healthcare system or cultural background of the country. Moreover, although nursing care is changing with COVID-19, no scale has been specifically designed to assess patient satisfaction with ER nursing. The study population included patients who visited five ERs in Japan (March to December 2021) (n = 135). The rating scales were provided to patients who visited the ER and gave consent, and the patients were asked to reply. In the process of validating the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses of the construct and criterion validity were conducted. The confirmatory factor analysis results showed a factorial structure consisting of four factors. The domain and summary scores demonstrated good-to-excellent internal reliability (Cronbach’s range = 0.81–0.89). This patient satisfaction scale was designed and validated from the perspective of the Japanese healthcare system and cultural backgrounds. This scale may be useful for developing assessments and interventions to improve patient satisfaction with ER nursing.

Abstract
Introducción. El tratamiento farmacológico de la EPOC se realiza progresiva y escalonadamente de acuerdo a la gravedad y puede ser modificado en función de la respuesta al mismo, por lo cual se han desarrollado instrumentos con el fin de evaluar la satisfacción del paciente con los distintos sistemas de inhalación; sin embargo, estos instrumentos han sido diseñados en su mayoría para pacientes con Asma. Objetivo. Validar el instrumento FSI-10 y determinar el nivel de satisfacción de los dispositivos de inhaloterapia en pacientes con EPOC. Materiales y métodos. Estudio transversal prospectivo y de validación de contenido, muestreo probabilístico estratificado con afijación proporcional; población de 337 pacientes con diagnóstico EPOC de la provincia Centro del departamento de Boyacá, Colombia. Se evaluó el cuestionario FSI-10 mediante la prueba de esfericidad de Bartlett, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin y alfa de Cronbach. Resultados. La prueba de esfericidad resultó estadísticamente significativa, sugiriendo la existencia de correlaciones dentro de la matriz de diez preguntas. La variación total explicable de las diez preguntas que corresponden a la versión del FSI 10 dio cuenta del 81 % de variabilidad. Los pacientes evaluados reportaron un nivel de satisfacción entre bastante a algo con los dispositivos de inhaloterapia. Conclusiones. Las propiedades psicométricas permiten su utilización en la satisfacción del paciente con dispositivos de medicación inhalada, sin presentar diferencias en la comprensión y teniendo resultado fiables. La satisfacción con los dispositivos de inhaloterapia no es muy alta en la mayoría de la población evaluada.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aims to analyze the patient-reported outcome (PRO) of treatment satisfaction in a sample of children, adolescents and young adults with long-duration type 1 diabetes and to determine potential risk factors for poor treatment satisfaction and the intraindividual changes over a 3-year period. METHODS This study used data from two population-based questionnaire surveys conducted in 2015-2016 and 2018-2019. The participants were 11 to 27 years old and had a type 1 diabetes duration of 10 years or longer in 2015-2016 (n = 575). Factors that were potentially associated with poor treatment satisfaction (moderate, poor or very poor) compared to the reference group (very good or good treatment satisfaction) were analyzed by log binomial regression adjusted for sex and age group. RESULTS In 2015-2016 (2018-2019), 26% (33%) of the respondents rated their diabetes treatment/consultation as "very good", 53% (46%) as "good", and 20% (21%) as "poor". Based on the 2018-2019 data, girls/women had an increased risk of poor treatment satisfaction (RRgirls/women: 1.64 (1.10; 2.44), p = 0.016). In addition, people with hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) values ≥ 7.5% had a more than twice the risk of poor treatment satisfaction than people with HbA1c values < 7.5% (RRHbA1c ≥7.5%: 2.43 (1.63; 3.63), p < 0.001). A total of 42% of people with poor treatment satisfaction in 2015-2016 also reported poor treatment satisfaction at follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Most study participants were satisfied with their diabetes treatment. However, we identified risk groups that would benefit from targeted interventions to improve this important PRO.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular research has traditionally been dedicated to "tombstone" outcomes, with little attention dedicated to the patient's perspective. We evaluated disability-free survival as a patient-defined outcome after cardiac surgery. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients aged 40 years and older who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or single or multiple valve (aortic, mitral, tricuspid) surgery in Ontario between Oct. 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2016. The primary outcome was disability (a composite of stroke, 3 or more nonelective hospital admissions and admission to a long-term care facility) within 1 year after surgery. We assessed the procedure-specific risk of disability using cumulative incidence functions, and the relative effect of covariates on the subdistribution hazard using Fine and Gray models. RESULTS The study included 72 824 patients. The 1-year incidence of disability and death was 2431 (4.6%) and 1839 (3.5%) for CABG, 677 (6.5%) and 539 (5.2%) for single valve, 118 (9.0%) and 140 (10.7%) for multiple valve, 718 (9.0%) and 730 (9.2%) for CABG and single valve, and 87 (13.1%) and 94 (14.1%) for CABG and multiple valve surgery, respectively. With CABG as the reference group, the adjusted hazard ratios for disability were 1.34 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.21-1.48) after single valve, 1.43 (95% CI 1.18-1.75) after multiple valve, 1.38 (95% CI 1.26-1.51) after CABG and single valve, and 1.78 (95% CI 1.43-2.23) after CABG and multiple valve surgery. Combined CABG and multiple valve surgery, heart failure, creatinine 180 μmol/L or greater, alcohol use disorder, dementia and depression were independent risk factors for disability. INTERPRETATION The cumulative incidence of disability was lowest after CABG and highest after combined CABG and multiple valve surgery. Our findings point to a need for models that predict personalized disability risk to enable better patient-centred care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Treatment Satisfaction with Medicines Questionnaire (SATMED-Q) in persons with arterial hypertension undergoing pharmacological treatment, along with its convergent validity with degree of control of blood pressure levels, therapeutic adherence, and tolerability of antihypertensive drugs. METHODS Observational cross-sectional study conducted on a sample of 484 persons. Treatment satisfaction was evaluated with the SATMED-Q, an instrument consisting of 17 items with six dimensions. Other variables were blood pressure, antihypertensive drugs, adverse effects, therapeutic adherence, and participants' characteristics. RESULTS Cronbach's alpha was 0.916. Factor analysis revealed six factors that could account for 89.97% of total variance. The test-retest reliability analysis yielded an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.910 (95% CI = 0.806-0.959). In a possible range of 0 through 100 points, participant satisfaction with treatment ranged from 38.2 to 100 (mean 79.9 (SD = 12.9; 95% CI = 78.8-81.0); median 80.9). SATMED-Q scores were higher among persons who reported experiencing no adverse effects (82.5 ± 11.6 SD vs. 68.7 ± 11.9 SD; p < 0.001). Satisfaction levels were significantly lower among subjects not complying with the treatment (73.2 ± 12.9 vs. 82.1 ± 12.1; p < 0.001), and significantly higher among those presenting with controlled blood pressure levels (82.1 ± 12.1 SD vs. 77.5 ± 13.3 SD; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The SATMED-Q showed high internal consistency and good stability in the reliability analysis. It is an appropriate instrument for evaluating satisfaction with antihypertensive treatment, both in routine clinical practice and in community pharmacy or clinical research settings.

Abstract
Background: Nusinersen was the first approved disease-modifying therapy for all 5q-spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients regardless of age or disease severity. Its efficacy in adults has recently been demonstrated in a large cohort by motor outcome measures, which were only partially suitable to detect changes in very mildly or severely affected patients. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROs) have been suggested as a valuable addition. Here, we aimed to assess treatment satisfaction and investigate whether it may be a useful PRO to monitor SMA patients. Methods: We enrolled 91 mainly adult 5q-SMA patients treated with nusinersen in a national, multicenter, cross-sectional observational study. 21 patients underwent longitudinal follow up. Patients’ satisfaction with treatment in four dimensions (global, effectiveness, convenience, side effects) was assessed by the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication German version 1.4 (TSQM-1.4©) and related to clinical parameters, motor scores, and treatment duration. Results: More than 90% of SMA patients were consistently satisfied over a median treatment duration of 10 months. Highest mean scores were observed in the dimensions ‘side effects,’ ‘global satisfaction,’ and ‘effectiveness’ (93.5 ± 14.8 versus 73.1 ± 21.0 and 64.8 ± 20.6, respectively). Patients’ satisfaction with the convenience of treatment was considerably lower (43.6 ± 20.2). Interestingly, satisfaction with the effectiveness was higher in ambulatory (p = 0.014) compared with non-ambulatory patients and directly correlated to motor outcome measures. Five non-ambulatory patients withdrew from therapy. All of them presented with a deterioration of motor outcome measures and reported dissatisfaction with treatment effectiveness and convenience. Conclusion: Most patients were satisfied with nusinersen treatment effectiveness. Less severely affected patients indicated higher satisfaction. The TSQM-1.4© helped to identify therapy non-responders, who mainly addressed dissatisfaction with effectiveness and convenience. We suggest introducing the TSQM-1.4© as an additional PRO in SMA into clinical practice.

Abstract
We incorporated questions related to safety, effectiveness and other characteristics of systemic cancer treatment into a self-report questionnaire - the Therapy Preference Scale - that captures patients´ preferences. The authors asked 20 experts to assess content validity and an additional 20 experts, patients and community members to examine face validity and guide revisions. Key revisions included shortening the length, clarifying constructs and providing details to explain the context and trade-offs necessary to balance the risks and benefits of cancer treatment. The content validity index for the final questionnaire was 1.0, indicating that all questions were relevant. Reviewers expressed that the questionnaire would serve an important purpose. Experts, patients and community members guided revisions of the questionnaire and documented its value.

Abstract
Antipsychotic long-acting formulations (LAI-AP) have emerged as a new therapeutic choice to treat patients presenting a severe mental disorder. Despite that, to date, there is a lack of safety data and studies regarding the use of LAI-AP formulations in pregnant women. Here we present the first six-case series of pregnant women with schizophrenia treated with aripiprazole-LAI reported in the literature. All patients remained psychopathologically stable through pregnancy and the postpartum period, and all of them were in treatment with aripiprazole-LAI. To date, all infants remain healthy with normal developmental milestones, without the presence of congenital malformations or adverse effects. Lack of information on safety data regarding the use of new antipsychotic formulations remains important in treating women with mental illness who desire to become pregnant. Further studies in this clinical population with a larger number of patients included remains necessary.

Abstract
Background Anticoagulation management is a complex process that is managed through careful monitoring, and patient satisfaction has a significant impact. Given the lack of a valid and reliable tool in Arabic to examine patient satisfaction, the present study aimed to translate and examine some of the psychometric properties of the Anti-Clot Treatment Scale (ACTS) among Saudi patients. Materials and Methods This was a cross-sectional, methodological study conducted among patients receiving warfarin. The questionnaire was subjected to translation by using a multistep method. The final Arabic translated version of the ACTS underwent face and content validity assessments by independent experts to ensure its conceptual equivalence to the original English version. Subsequently, pilot testing of convergent, discriminant, and criterion validities were examined. Results Overall, 136 patients participated in the study. All patients were asked to complete the generic Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM) alongside the ACTS tool. Convergent validity analyses revealed statistically significant positive correlations (p < 0.01) between the ACTS subscales and the four TSQM subdomains, as reflected by the Spearman correlation coefficient (r). Interestingly, the strongest correlations were observed between ACTS Burdens and the TSQM convenience domain (r = 0.61) and between ACTS Benefits and the TSQM effectiveness satisfaction score (r = 0.58). Similarly, discriminant validity was evidenced by moderate to high significant loading of all 12 items on each of their corresponding ACTS subscales. Conclusion These findings of adequate validity support the use of the ACTS in Saudi patients receiving anticoagulant medications to measure their specific satisfaction levels with this type of therapy. However, future research addressing the clinical impact of ACTS scores in the Saudi population is needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND After dermatitis, acne is the next skin disease to contribute most to the burden of skin diseases worldwide. Recently, seven core outcome domains have been identified, which together form an Acne Core Outcome Set (ACORN). One of these was satisfaction with acne treatment. OBJECTIVES To identify studies that described the development of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMS), evaluated one or more measurement properties of a PROM, or evaluated the interpretability of a PROM in patients with acne regarding treatment satisfaction. METHODS The COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) search strategy for identifying PROMS on acne treatment satisfaction was used. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Emcare, PsycINFO and Academic Search premier (June 2020). Study selection, data extraction and assessment of methodological quality according to COSMIN guidance were carried out independently by two authors. RESULTS Only one study could be included, describing the development of a treatment satisfaction measure in patients with acne. The development was assessed as inadequate and data on measurement properties were lacking. Additionally, we found 188 studies reporting treatment satisfaction solely as an outcome, using a wide variety of methods, none of them standardized or validated. CONCLUSIONS We could not find a PROM on treatment satisfaction to recommend for a core outcome set in acne. There is an unmet need for a PROM on treatment satisfaction in acne that is robustly developed, designed and validated.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Although patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures provide important information beyond clinical data, studies that assess the PROs of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients initiating injectable glucose-lowering medications in routine clinical practice are limited. We describe the perspectives of patients based on a diversified panel of generic and disease-specific PRO measures at the time of enrollment (baseline) in the TROPHIES study. METHODS TROPHIES is a 24-month prospective observational study performed in France, Germany, and Italy in patients with T2DM who initiated their first injectable glucose-lowering medication with once-weekly dulaglutide or once-daily liraglutide. To better understand the perspectives of these patients regarding their overall health, treatment satisfaction, and quality of life and work, the patients' responses to the following questionnaires were collected at baseline before they initiated treatment with dulaglutide or liraglutide: EQ-5D-5L (scale: 0-1), EQ-VAS (visual analog scale: 0-100), Impact of Weight on Self-Perceptions Questionnaire (IW-SP; scale: 0-100), Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire Status (DTSQs; scale: 0-36), and Diabetes Productivity Measure (DPM; scale: 0-100). Analyses were descriptive in nature, with higher scores reflecting better outcomes. RESULTS Data from patients at the time of enrollment were analyzed. At baseline, patients initiating dulaglutide (N = 1130) or liraglutide (N = 1051) rated their quality of life in terms of mean EQ-5D-5L index as 0.84 and 0.83, and in terms of mean EQ-VAS as 67.5 and 67.5, respectively. The mean baseline scores in patients initiating dulaglutide or liraglutide were 59.8 and 61.3 for IW-SP, 24.6 and 25.8 for DTSQs, 78.6 and 79.5 for DPM Life Productivity, and 87.5 and 86.8 for DPM Work Productivity, respectively. CONCLUSION The information from this varied panel of PRO instruments collected at baseline complements clinical outcomes data.

Abstract
PURPOSE The phase III COLUMBA study evaluated daratumumab (DARA) intravenous (IV) and subcutaneous (SC) in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. Here, we report patient-reported satisfaction with therapy (SWT) in COLUMBA. METHODS DARA IV or DARA SC was administered weekly (cycles 1-2), every 2 weeks (cycles 3-6), and every 4 weeks (cycles 7 +). Patients completed a modified version of the Cancer Therapy Satisfaction Questionnaire (CTSQ) at weekly (cycles 1-2) and monthly (cycles 3 +) intervals and at the end of treatment. Results for each item and the SWT domain score were summarized using descriptive statistics. The distribution of responses for individual items was calculated for each assessment. The proportion of patients for whom SWT domain score change from first assessment met or exceeded the minimally important difference (MID) of 5.9 points was calculated at each assessment time point. RESULTS Two-hundred fifty-nine patients were randomized to DARA IV and 263 to DARA SC. Mean scores for SWT domain questions were high and largely positive during treatment. Responses indicating positive perceptions of therapy were given by a numerically greater proportion of patients in the DARA SC group than the DARA IV group for most questions. Changes from the first assessment in SWT domain scores met or exceeded the MID for an average of ~ 40% of patients. CONCLUSION In COLUMBA, modified CTSQ results suggest patients in the DARA SC group were more satisfied with their cancer therapy than those in the DARA IV group. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Up to 30 % of patients undergoing bariatric surgery are dissatisfied with treatment outcomes in the long term. The aim of this study was to examine overall satisfaction with treatment 5 years after bariatric surgery and its association with body mass index (BMI) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). METHODS Patients were surveyed 5 years after bariatric surgery; 108 patients had duodenal switch (DS) and 153 patients had laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The main outcome was overall treatment satisfaction, assessed by a single question, and analyzed by multiple logistic regression. Estimates for continuous independent variables represent the odds ratios (OR) for a 2-standard deviation difference. RESULTS Five years after surgery, 82.4 % of the patients were very satisfied or satisfied, whereas 17.6 % were unsure or dissatisfied. The following variables assessed at 5 years were associated with being dissatisfied/unsure: a higher BMI (OR = 6.1, 95 % CI = 2.7-14.0, p < 0.001), reduced obesity-specific HRQOL (OR = 3.0, 95 % CI = 1.1-7.8, p = 0.03), and reduced mental HRQOL (OR = 0.3, 95 % CI = 0.1-0.8, p = 0.02). We also found that a higher proportion of patients who underwent LSG, compared to DS, reported being dissatisfied/unsure (OR = 3.3, 95 % CI = 1.3-8.8, p = 0.01). CONCLUSION Reduced mental HRQOL and obesity-related HRQOL, as well as higher BMI, were associated with less satisfaction with overall treatment outcomes 5 years after bariatric surgery. Differences in overall treatment satisfaction by type of operation warrant further investigation.

Abstract
Background Both doctors’ and patients’ opinions are important in the process of treatment and healthcare of Chinese medicine. This study is to compare patients’ and doctors’ treatment satisfaction over the course of two visits in a Chinese medicine outpatient setting, and to explain their respective views. Methods Patients’ chief complaints were collected prior to the outpatient encounter. The doctor was then asked (through a questionnaire) to state what complaints he or she was prioritizing during the process of diagnosing disease and making a prescription for herbal medicine or acupuncture treatment. On the next visit, both the patient and the doctor completed a questionnaire assessing satisfaction with the treatment of Chinese medicine prescribed in the first visit and administered by the patient at home. A 5-point Likert scales was used to assess the patients’ and doctors’ satisfaction with treatment. The timing of the follow-up appointment was determined by the doctor. One chief specialist, one associate chief specialist and one attending practitioner in Chinese medicine, and 60 patients having a follow-up appointment with one of the doctors, participated in the study. Results For 11 patients, their most urgent complaint was different from what the doctor’s choose to focus on in his or her treatment. And only one patient refused to comply due to his or her dissatisfaction with the treatment focus of the doctor. Overall, 59 patients completed the satisfaction assessment, and 53 patients visited their doctors for a follow-up appointment. Patients’ total satisfaction was higher than their doctors’ (mean 3.55 vs. 3.45), and correlation of patients’ and doctors’ treatment satisfaction was moderate (r = 0.63, P < 0.01). Both of the patients’ and doctors’ satisfaction ratings were correlated with treatment adherence (P < 0.001). The predictors of their treatment satisfaction were different. Doctors’ satisfaction with treatment was a significant factor in the process of making further clinical decisions. Conclusion Patients and doctors form their opinion about the treatment effects in different ways. When evaluating treatment satisfaction, doctor’s opinions are also an important indicator of positive or negative clinical effects and affect the subsequent decisions-making.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mixed partial thickness burns are the most common depth of burn injury managed at a large Australian paediatric hospital specialty burns unit. Prolonged time until re-epithelialisation is associated with increased burn depth and scar formation. Whilst current wound management approaches have benefits such as anti-microbial cover, these are not without inherent limitations including multiple dressing changes. The Biobrane® RECELL® Autologous skin Cell suspension and Silver dressings (BRACS) trial aims to identify the most effective wound management approach for mixed partial thickness injuries in children. METHODS All children presenting with an acute burn injury to the study site will be screened for eligibility. This is a single-centre, three-arm, parallel group, randomised trial. Children younger than 16 years, with burns ≥ 5% total body surface area involving any anatomical location, up to 48 h after the burn injury, and of a superficial partial to mid-dermal depth, will be included. A sample size of 84 participants will be randomised to standard silver dressing or a Regenerative Epithelial Suspension (RES™) with Biobrane® or Biobrane® alone. The first dressing will be applied under general anaesthesia and subsequent dressings will be changed every 3 to 5 days until the wound is ≥ 95% re-epithelialised, with re-epithelialisation time the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes of acute pain, acute itch, scar severity, health-related quality of life, treatment satisfaction, dressing application ease and healthcare resource use will be assessed at each dressing change and 3, 6 and 12 months post-burn injury. DISCUSSION The findings of this study can potentially change the wound management approach for superficial partial to mid-dermal burns in children locally and worldwide. Abstract
Schizophrenia is a chronic syndrome involving different clinical dimensions, and causes significant disability with a negative impact on the quality of life of patients and their caregivers. Current guidelines for the treatment of schizophrenia focus on maximizing a patient's adaptive functioning and quality of life in a recovery-oriented approach that encourages active collaboration among patients, caregivers, and mental health professionals to design and manage a customized and comprehensive care plan. In the present study, a panel of experts (psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse, and social worker) gathered to review and explore the need for contemporary use of second-generation antipsychotic long-acting injectables (SGA LAIs) in "recovery-oriented" and "patient-centered" care of schizophrenia. Starting from the available data and from sharing personal attitudes and experiences, the panel selected three clinical dimensions considered useful in characterizing each patient: phase of disease, adherence to treatment, and level of functioning. For each clinical dimension, perspectives of patients and caregivers with regard to needs, expectations, and personal experiences were reviewed and the role of SGA LAIs in achieving shared goals examined. The experts concluded that from today's modern perspectives, SGA-LAIs may play an important role in breaking the spiral of desocialization and functional decline in schizophrenia, thus favoring the recovery process.

Abstract
GOALS The goal of this study is to assess: (1) the relative contribution of patient factors to satisfaction ratings in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients and (2) the relationship between patient satisfaction (PS) and the number of diagnostic tests patients underwent prior to receiving IBS diagnosis. BACKGROUND Although PS is regarded as an important indicator of quality of care, little is known about its determinants. STUDY A total of 448 Rome III-diagnosed patients (M age=41 y; 79% F), whose GI symptoms were at least moderate in severity completed patient-reported outcome measures as part of pretreatment evaluation of an NIH-funded clinical trial. PS was measured with the 11-point Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems global rating scale modified to assess for IBS treatments. A series of multiple regression analyses were conducted for demographic, IBS-specific, general physical health, and psychological predictors before running a final model of significant predictors from each domain. RESULTS The final regression model was significant, F6,419=6.34, P<0.001, R=0.08, with race, insurance, number of diagnostic tests, and lower neuroticism predicting PS. Medical tests were rendered nonsignificant when history of seeking care from a gastroenterologist was introduced into the equation. CONCLUSIONS Contrary to hypotheses, neither the IBS symptom severity nor quality of life impairment predicted PS. Patient factors such as a neurotic personality style and sociodemographic profile had a significant but modest impact on PS. Pattern of regression analyses suggests that patients may turn to their gastroenterologist for testing for reassurance, which may in the long-term fuel demand for more testing.

Abstract
Background The objective of the FAVOR study was to evaluate the effect of indacaterol/glycopyrronium (IND/GLY) versus tiotropium on peak forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and also to investigate patient satisfaction and treatment preference. Methods Patients with moderate-to-severe airflow limitation (FEV1/forced vital capacity ratio of <0.70), those with a COPD assessment test score of ≥10, and those who were maintained on tiotropium HandiHaler® therapy prior to enrollment were recruited for the study, and randomized (1:1) to receive either 4 weeks open-label IND/GLY (110/50 μg) once daily followed by 4 weeks of tiotropium (18 μg) once daily or vice versa. The primary endpoint was FEV1 1 h post-inhalation after 4 weeks of treatment. Other endpoints included patient's and physician's preference for treatment, patient's satisfaction evaluated using a study-specific questionnaire and the abbreviated Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication, and safety and tolerability. Results Eighty-seven out of 88 randomized patients completed the study and showed significantly higher FEV1 1 h post-inhalation after 4 weeks of treatment with IND/GLY versus tiotropium (treatment difference =0.081 L; p=0.0017). IND/GLY was preferred over tiotropium among the patients (69.4% versus 30.6%, p=0.0004) and the physicians (81.6% versus 18.4%, p<0.0001). A higher proportion of the patients stated they were very satisfied or satisfied with IND/GLY versus tiotropium with regard to dyspnea reduction (79.3% versus 58.0%, respectively) and reduction of dyspnea on exertion (72.4% versus 43.2%, respectively). Patients treated with IND/GLY showed significant improvement in Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication domain scores versus tiotropium. IND/GLY demonstrated a good safety and tolerability profile. Conclusion This study indicated that, beyond FEV1, important patient-reported outcomes improved with the open-label dual bronchodilator IND/GLY when compared with tiotropium. This study suggests that individual patients felt the lung function benefits with IND/GLY compared with tiotropium, which, in turn, may also have contributed to the preference for IND/GLY.

Abstract
AIMS The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of adverse drug events (ADEs) and treatment satisfaction on antihypertensive medication adherence. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in six public hospitals in Ethiopia. We included adult ambulatory patients on antihypertensive medication. Adherence was measured using the eight-point Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, which categorizes as low (0-5), medium (6-7) and high (8) adherence. Treatment satisfaction was measured using the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM) version 1.4, which included questions about ADEs. Data were analysed using generalized ordered logistic regression with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS We included 925 out of 968 patients. Overall, 42% of patients scored low, 37% medium and 21% high adherence. Satisfaction with treatment was low, with a mean (standard deviation) TSQM score for global satisfaction of 51 (14). A total of 193 (21%) patients experienced 421 ADEs - mainly dyspeptic symptoms (12%), headache (11%) and cough (11). Experiencing more ADEs reduced the odds of being adherent [low vs. medium/high: odds ratio (OR) OR1 0.77 (95% CI 0.67, 0.89), and low/medium vs. high: OR2 0.55 (05% CI 0.41, 0.73)]. Being more satisfied increased the odds of being adherent [low vs. medium/high: OR1 1.02 (95% CI 1.01, 1.03)]. Taking medication >1 year [OR1 = 2 , 0.60 (95% CI 0.43, 0.83)] and taking calcium channel blockers [OR1 = 2 0.71 (95% CI 0.54, 0.92)] decreased the odds for both low vs. medium/high and low/medium vs. high adherence. CONCLUSIONS Only one in five patients reported perfect (high) adherence to their antihypertensive treatment regimen. Experiencing ADEs and being dissatisfied with treatment were associated with lower adherence. In addition to addressing treatment satisfaction and drug safety in first-world countries, these should also be addressed in resource-poor settings, within patient consultations, to enhance adherence.

Abstract
Treatment satisfaction is recognized as an essential aspect in the evaluation of an intervention's effectiveness, but there is no measure that provides for its comprehensive assessment with regard to behavioral interventions. Informed by a conceptualization generated from a literature review, we developed a measure that covers several domains of satisfaction with behavioral interventions. In this paper, we briefly review its conceptualization and describe the Multi-Dimensional Treatment Satisfaction Measure (MDTSM) subscales. Satisfaction refers to the appraisal of the treatment's process and outcome attributes. The MDTSM has 11 subscales assessing treatment process and outcome attributes: treatment components' suitability and utility, attitude toward treatment, desire for continued treatment use, therapist competence and interpersonal style, format and dose, perceived benefits of the health problem and everyday functioning, discomfort, and attribution of outcomes to treatment. The MDTSM was completed by persons (N = 213) in the intervention group in a large trial of a multi-component behavioral intervention for insomnia within 1 week following treatment completion. The MDTSM's subscales demonstrated internal consistency reliability (α: .65 - .93) and validity (correlated with self-reported adherence and perceived insomnia severity at post-test). The MDTSM subscales can be used to assess satisfaction with behavioral interventions and point to aspects of treatments that are viewed favorably or unfavorably.

Abstract
Patient views about their treatment for insomnia often dictate outcome. This review explores the literature relating to the patients' global perceptions toward treatment for insomnia. A strategic literature search was conducted using five databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO, and Embase). The 57 research articles included for this review were mapped out chronologically across three key stages of treatment-seeking (pretreatment appraisal, actual treatment experiences, and posttreatment evaluation). Patient perceptions played an important role across these three key stages and influenced subsequent health behaviors such as the initiation of help-seeking, treatment uptake, treatment adherence, and treatment adjustment. Patients' perceptions toward treatment were heavily grounded by their psychosocial contexts. Clinical implications and future directions for including patient-centered metrics in mainstream practice and research are discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although satisfaction is recognized as an essential aspect in the evaluation of interventions' effectiveness, there is lack of clarity on its conceptualization and operationalization. In this article, we present conceptual and operational definitions that specify the domains and attributes of satisfaction with nonpharmacological interventions. METHODS An integrative review of conceptual and empirical literature was conducted to generate the conceptual and operational definitions of satisfaction with interventions. Fifty-six publications were included in the review. The definitions of satisfaction and the content of instruments measuring satisfaction were reviewed, compared, and contrasted to identify the domains and attributes of the concept. RESULTS Satisfaction is defined as the appraisal of the interventions' process and outcome. It is operationalized in 4 domains of process: (a) suitability and utility of the intervention's components, (b) attitude toward and desire to continue with the intervention, (c) competence and interpersonal style of interventionist, and (d) implementation (format and dose) of the intervention. The outcome domain includes improvement in the health problem and in everyday functions, discomfort, and attribution of the outcomes to the intervention. CONCLUSIONS The conceptual and operational definitions can guide the development of instruments to assess satisfaction with nonpharmacological interventions, which can point to aspects of interventions that are viewed favorably or unfavorably.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Liver transplantation (LT) is a life-saving intervention for patients with liver failure. LT recipients' adherence to their therapeutic regimen is an essential element for graft survival. According to WHO, the impact of medication non-adherence in solid organ transplantation has shown to cost $15-100 million annually. The aim of the present study was to identify the factors that best predict medication adherence and to explore the relationship between treatment satisfaction and medication adherence in liver transplant recipients. PATIENTS AND METHODS Adult liver transplant patients at King Abdulaziz Medical City were included in the study. Patients completed the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) and the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM 1.4) in addition to several socio-demographic and transplant-related data. RESULTS A total of 154 patients were included in the study and of these 59.7% were adherent. Older age was a significant predictor of adherence (P < 0.05). The mean treatment satisfaction score was 91.9 ± 12.7 in Effectiveness, 80.0 ± 25.9 in Side Effects, 83.5 ± 15.7 in Convenience, and 94.6 ± 8.6 in Global Satisfaction. Further analysis indicated that patients in the adherent group had reported significantly higher satisfaction scores than those in the non-adherent group (P < 0.05) in all treatment satisfaction domains: Effectiveness (94.4 ± 10.4 vs. 88.6 ± 14.8), Side Effects (83.9 ± 22.0 vs. 74.2 ± 30.1), Convenience (87.0 ± 13.9 vs. 77.2 ± 16.1), and Global Satisfaction (96.9 ± 6.6 vs. 91.2 ± 8.6). CONCLUSION Older patients and those who were more satisfied with their treatment tend to have better adherence to the prescribed medications. Therefore, increasing patients' satisfaction with their treatment should be an integral element of future care plans designed to improve treatment outcomes in liver transplant recipients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The recently introduced Practice Accreditation Scheme as part of the Australian National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards raises the question of how dental practices can implement valid and reliable patient experience feedback mechanisms for performance evaluation and enhancement. This article describes the development and use of a dental patient questionnaire (DPQ) that can be used for this purpose. METHODS DPQ was piloted on 58 voluntary dental practices across Australia and resulted in an average of just over 50 patient responses to 35 practices returned. Statistical properties of the DPQ were tested through validity (construct, content and criterion), structural integrity and reliability measurements. RESULTS DPQ is valid and reliable, with statistical analysis showing that there are significant differences in patients' scores depending on their age, gender, regularity of visit and number of years attending the practice. Two patient satisfaction models were derived. However, there may be scope for improving DPQ to more effectively produce patient feedback on summative aspects of services provided by dental practices. CONCLUSIONS DPQ has been shown to be 'fit for purpose' in its first pilot and may prove to be a useful tool for supporting dental practices in the Practice Accreditation Scheme.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate accident casualties' long-term subjective evaluation of treatment outcome 6 weeks and 12 months after discharge and its relation to the experienced surgeon's empathy during hospital treatment after trauma in consideration of patient-, injury-, and health-related factors. The long-term results are compared to the 6-week follow-up outcomes. PATIENTS AND METHODS Two hundred and seventeen surgery patients were surveyed at 6 weeks, and 206 patients at 12 months after discharge from the trauma surgical general ward. The subjective evaluation of medical treatment outcome was measured 6 weeks and 12 months after discharge with the respective scale from the Cologne Patient Questionnaire. Physician Empathy was assessed with the Consultation and Relational Empathy Measure. The correlation between physician empathy and control variables with the subjective evaluation of medical treatment outcome 12 months after discharge was identified by means of logistic regression analysis under control of sociodemographic and injury-related factors. RESULTS One hundred and thirty-six patients were included within the logistic regression analysis at the 12-month follow-up. Compared to the 6-week follow-up, the level of subjective evaluation of medical treatment outcome was slightly lower and the association with physician empathy was weaker. Compared to patients who rated the empathy of their surgeon lower than 31 points, patients with ratings of 41 points or higher had a 4.2-fold higher probability to be in the group with a better medical treatment outcome (3.5 and above) on the Cologne Patient Questionnaire scale 12 months after discharge from hospital (P=0.009, R (2)=33.5, 95% confidence interval: 1.440-12.629). CONCLUSION Physician empathy is the strongest predictor for a higher level of trauma patients' subjective evaluation of treatment outcome 6 weeks and 12 months after discharge from the hospital. Interpersonal factors between surgeons and their patients are possible key levers for improving patient outcomes in an advanced health system. Communication trainings for surgeons might prepare them to react appropriately to their patients' needs and lead to satisfactory outcomes for both parties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although laparoscopic fundoplication effectively alleviates gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in the great majority of patients, some patients remain dissatisfied after the operation. This study was undertaken to report the outcomes of these patients and to determine the causes of dissatisfaction after laparoscopic fundoplication. METHODS All patients undergoing laparoscopic fundoplication in the authors' series from 1992 to 2010 were evaluated for frequency and severity of symptoms before and after laparoscopic fundoplication, and their experiences were graded from "very satisfying" to "very unsatisfying." Objective outcomes were determined by endoscopy, barium swallow, and pH monitoring. Primary complaints were derived from postoperative surveys. Median data are reported. RESULTS Of the 1,063 patients undergoing laparoscopic fundoplication, 101 patients reported dissatisfaction after the procedure. The follow-up period was 33 months. The dissatisfied patients (n = 101) were more likely than the satisfied patients to have postoperative complications (9 vs 4 %; p < 0.05) and to have undergone a prior fundoplication (22 vs 11 %; p < 0.05). For the dissatisfied patients, heartburn decreased in frequency and severity after fundoplication (p < 0.05) but remained notable. Also for the dissatisfied patients, new symptoms (gas bloat/dysphagia) were the most prominent postoperative complaint (59 %), followed by symptom recurrence (23 %), symptom persistence (4 %), and the overall experience (14 %). Primary complaints of new symptoms were most common within the first year of follow-up assessment and less frequent thereafter. Primary complaints of recurrent symptoms generally occurred more than 1 year after fundoplication. CONCLUSIONS Dissatisfaction is uncommon after laparoscopic fundoplication. New symptoms, such as dysphagia and gas/bloating, are primary causes of dissatisfaction despite general reflux alleviation among these patients. New symptoms occur sooner after fundoplication than recurrent symptoms and may become less common with time.

Abstract
Background Patient treatment satisfaction is likely to be a highly relevant outcome measure in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition for which the benefits of treatment must be weighed against frequent, undesirable side effects, inconvenience, and complications associated with therapy. In this study, we sought to evaluate the psychometric properties of a patient-reported treatment satisfaction measure and its relationship to quality of life (QoL) among patients transitioning from inhaled iloprost (iILO) to inhaled treprostinil (iTRE). Methods We studied treatment satisfaction among 66 subjects with PAH in a single-arm, open-label, multi-center trial of iTRE following transition from iILO. Treatment satisfaction was assessed using the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM, version 1.4) administered to subjects immediately before and 12 weeks after transition of inhaled therapy. The TSQM is comprised of 4 domains: effectiveness, side effects, convenience, and global satisfaction. Scores range from 0 to 100 with higher scores indicating greater satisfaction. Six-minute walk distance (6MWD), functional class, adverse events, drug administration time, and PAH-specific QoL (CAMPHOR) were concurrently assessed. Results Domains of the TSQM demonstrated evidence of strong internal consistency at baseline and at 12 weeks (Cronbach α = 0.88-0.93). Transition from iILO to iTRE was associated with an improvement in 3 of 4 TSQM domains: effectiveness (+20 ± 21, p < 0.0001), side effects (0 ± 22, p = 0.97), convenience (+39 ± 26, p < 0.0001), and global satisfaction (+20 ± 24, p = 0.0005). Change in effectiveness scores correlated with change in 6MWD (r = 0.43, p = 0.0004) and side effects scores at 12 weeks correlated inversely with number of severity-weighted treatment-emergent adverse events (r = −0.44, p = 0.0002). In multiple regression models adjusted for baseline characteristics, changes in effectiveness and convenience satisfaction scores were significantly associated with improvement in PAH-specific QoL (p = 0.002 and p = 0.01). Conclusions The TSQM demonstrated acceptable performance characteristics in patients with PAH. Changes in treatment satisfaction resulting from transitioning from iILO to iTRE were associated with improvements in PAH-specific QoL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gut-directed hypnotherapy is an effective treatment option for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, clinical observations suggest that patient satisfaction with hypnotherapy is not always associated with improvement in IBS symptoms. METHODS We evaluated 83 patients with IBS treated with gut-directed hypnotherapy (1 h week(-1), 12 weeks). After the treatment period, patients reported their satisfaction with the treatment (ranging from 1 = not at all satisfied, to 5 = very satisfied) and completed questionnaires to assess IBS symptom severity, quality of life, cognitive function, sense of coherence, depression, and anxiety before and after treatment. KEY RESULTS After hypnotherapy improved IBS symptom severity, quality of life, cognitive function, and anxiety were seen. Thirty patients (36%) were very satisfied with the treatment and 57 (69%) patients scored 4 or 5 on the patient satisfaction scale. Patient satisfaction was associated with less severe IBS symptoms and better quality of life after the treatment. In a multiple linear regression analysis, only the quality of life domain sexual relations was independently associated with patient satisfaction after hypnotherapy, explaining 22% of the variance. Using 25% reduction of IBS symptom severity to define an IBS symptom responder, 52% of the responders were very satisfied with hypnotherapy, but this was also true for 31% in the non-responder group. CONCLUSIONS & INFERENCES Patient satisfaction with gut-directed hypnotherapy in IBS is associated with improvement of quality of life and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. However, other factors unrelated to GI symptoms also seems to be of importance for patient satisfaction, as a substantial proportion of patients without GI symptom improvement were also very satisfied with this treatment option.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous reviews have highlighted the benefit of loaded therapeutic exercise in the treatment of tendinopathy. Changes in observable structural outcomes have been suggested as a possible explanation for this response to therapeutic exercise. However, the mechanism for the efficacy of therapeutic exercise remains unclear. OBJECTIVE To systematically review the relationship between the observable structural change and clinical outcomes following therapeutic exercise. DATA SOURCES An electronic search of AMED, CiNAHL, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, PEDro and SPORTDiscus was undertaken from their inception to June 2012. STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Any study design that incorporated observable structural outcomes and clinical outcomes when assessing the effect of therapeutic exercise on participants with tendinopathy. STUDY APPRAISAL AND SYNTHESIS METHODS Included studies were appraised for risk of bias using the tool developed by the Cochrane Back Review Group. Due to heterogeneity of studies, a qualitative synthesis was undertaken. RESULTS Twenty articles describing 625 patients were included. Overall, there is a strong evidence to refute any observable structural change as an explanation for the response to therapeutic exercise when treated by eccentric exercise training. Moderate evidence does exist to support the response of heavy-slow resistance training (HSR). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS OF KEY FINDINGS The available literature does not support observable structural change as an explanation for the response of therapeutic exercise except for some support from HSR. Future research should focus on indentifying other explanations including neural, biochemical and myogenic changes. REGISTRATION NUMBER Registered with PROSPERO, registration number CRD42011001638.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient satisfaction is increasingly regarded as an important aspect of measuring treatment success in individuals with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). OBJECTIVE To review how satisfied patients with GERD are with their medication, and to analyze the usefulness of patient satisfaction as a clinical end point by comparing it with symptom improvement. METHODS Systematic searches of the PubMed and EMBASE databases identified clinical trials and patient surveys published between 1966 and 2009. RESULTS Twelve trials reported that 56% to 100% of patients were 'satisfied' or 'very satisfied' with proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment for GERD. Patient satisfaction levels were higher for PPIs than other GERD medications in two trials. The sample-size-weighted average proportion of patients 'satisfied' with their PPI after four weeks of treatment in trials was 93% (95% CI 87% to 99%), with 73% (95% CI 62% to 83%) being 'very satisfied'. In four surveys, the average proportion of patients 'satisfied' with their PPI treatment was 82% (95% CI 73% to 90%) and 62% (95% CI 48% to 75%) were 'very satisfied'. Seven trials found a positive association between patient satisfaction and symptom improvement, and two surveys between satisfaction and improved health-related quality of life. Three trials found that continuous treatment yielded higher rates of satisfaction than on-demand therapy. CONCLUSIONS More than one-half of patients were satisfied with their PPI medication in trials, and more patients were satisfied with PPIs than other medication types. An association between patient satisfaction and symptom resolution was found, suggesting that patient satisfaction is a useful end point for evaluating GERD treatment success.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Satisfaction with care is an important measure of quality, from the patients' perspective, and could also affect outcomes. However, there is no standard measure of patient satisfaction for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) care; a multi-item, condition-specific instrument is needed. METHODS Using standard qualitative methods, we conducted focus groups to identify items that patients associated with satisfaction in their care for IBS. These and additional items identified by experts were placed into a preliminary questionnaire, which was refined through pilot testing and cognitive debriefing by additional patients, as well as standard statistical methods. The resulting instrument and several external validation measures were administered to 300 adult US patients with IBS. Factor analysis was performed to identify clinically relevant subscales and then psychometric properties were assessed. RESULTS We developed an IBS satisfaction with care scale (IBS-SAT) that has 38 items from 5 clinically relevant subscales (connection with provider, education, benefits of visit, office attributes, and access to care). This IBS-SAT had a high level of internal consistency (Crohnbach's α = .96). Convergent validity was established by correlations between the IBS-SAT and a single, global satisfaction with care question (r = 0.68; P < .001), and a generic, multi-item satisfaction scale (physician satisfaction questionnaire-18) (r = 0.75, P < .001). Discriminant validity (among known groups) was established across groups that were stratified based on IBS-quality of life (r = 0.34; P < .0001), IBS severity (functional bowel disorders severity index) (r = -0.21; P < .001), and number of unmet expectations (r = -0.38; P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS The IBS-SAT is a validated measure of patient satisfaction with IBS care. As a new, condition-specific instrument, it is likely to be a useful tool for quality measurement, health services research, and clinical trials.

Abstract
Background A previous study has documented the reliability and validity of the Treatment Satisfaction with Medicines Questionnaire (SATMED-Q) in exploring patient satisfaction with medicines for chronic health conditions in routine medical practice, but the minimally important difference (MID) of this tool is as yet unknown. The objective of this research was to estimate the MID for the SATMED-Q total score and six constituent domains. Methods The sample of patients (456 subjects, mean age 59 years, 53% male) used for testing psychometric properties was also used to assess MID. Item #14 of the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM) was used as an anchor reference since it directly explores satisfaction with medicine on a 7-point ordinal scale (from extremely satisfied to extremely dissatisfied, with a neutral category). Patients were classified into four categories according to responses to this item (extremely satisfied/dissatisfied, very satisfied/dissatisfied, satisfied/dissatisfied, neither satisfied nor dissatisfied (neutral), and calculations were made for the total score and each domain of the SATMED-Q using standardised scores. The mean absolute differences in total score (and domains) between the neutral category and the satisfied/dissatisfied category were considered to be the MID. Effect sizes (ES) were also computed. Results The MID for the total score was 13.4 (ES = 0.91), while the domain values ranged from 10.3 (medical care domain, ES = 0.43) to 20.6 (impact on daily living, ES = 0.85). Mean differences in satisfaction (as measured by the total SATMED-Q score and domain scores) using the levels of satisfaction established by item #14 were significantly different, with F values ranging from 12.2 to 88.8 (p < 0.001 in all cases). Conclusion The SATMED-Q was demonstrated to be responsive to different levels of patient satisfaction with therapy in chronically ill subjects. The MID obtained was 13.4 points for the overall normalised scoring scale, and between 10.3 and 20.6 points for domains.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Substitution with opioid-agonists (e.g., methadone) has shown to be an effective treatment for chronic long-term opioid dependency. Patient satisfaction with treatment has been associated with improved addiction treatment outcomes. However, there is a paucity of studies evaluating patients' satisfaction with Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST). In the present study, participants' satisfaction with OST was evaluated at 3 and 12 months. We sought to test the relationship between satisfaction and patients' characteristics, the treatment modality received and treatment outcomes. METHODS Data from a randomized controlled trial, the North American Opiate Medication Initiative (NAOMI), conducted in Vancouver and Montreal (Canada) between 2005-2008, was analyzed. The NAOMI study compared the effectiveness of oral methadone vs. injectable diacetylmorphine over 12 months. A small sub-group of patients received injectable hydromorphone on a double blind basis with diacetylmorphine. The Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ-8) was used to measure satisfaction with treatment. CSQ-8 scores, as well as retention and response to treatment, did not differ between those receiving hydromorphone and diacetylmorphine at 3 or 12 months assessments; therefore, these two groups were analyzed together as the 'injectable' treatment group. RESULTS A total of 232 (92%) and 237 (94%) participants completed the CSQ-8 at 3 and 12 months, respectively. Participants in both groups were highly satisfied with treatment. Independent of treatment group, participants satisfied with treatment at 3 months were more likely to be retained at 12 months. Multivariate analysis indicated that satisfaction was greater among those randomized to the injection group after controlling for treatment effectiveness. Participants who were retained, responded to treatment, and had fewer psychological symptoms were more satisfied with treatment. Finally, open-ended comments were made by 149 (60.3%) participants; concerns about the randomization process and the study ending were most commonly reported by participants receiving the oral and injectable medications, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The higher satisfaction among those receiving medically prescribed injectable diacetylmorphine (or hydromorphone) supports current evidence regarding the attractiveness of this treatment for long-term, opioid-dependent individuals not benefiting sufficiently from other treatments. In addition, the measurement of treatment satisfaction provides valuable information about participants at risk of relapse and in need of additional services. Abstract
BACKGROUND Physicians may be unaware of the severity and extent of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in their patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate patient-physician agreement concerning proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment. METHODS 1818 French primary-care physicians and 5174 adult patients with GERD who were taking PPIs answered questions regarding symptoms and treatment satisfaction. Patient-physician agreement was scored using the Kappa (κ) method. RESULTS There was moderate patient-physician agreement for PPI treatment satisfaction (κ = 0.60), PPI prescription adherence (κ = 0.57) and use of over-the-counter gastrointestinal medications (κ = 0.44-0.51). Patient satisfaction with PPI therapy and PPI treatment adherence rates were both ~90%. There was poor patient-physician agreement concerning PPI therapy expectations (κ = 0.22-0.33). Residual reflux symptoms occurred in 61% of patients. Physicians underestimated residual symptom severity compared with their patients (κ = 0.43-0.47), though there was good agreement regarding the presence (κ = 0.62-0.78) and frequency (κ = 0.61-0.66) of these symptoms and their effect on patients' daily life (κ = 0.64). CONCLUSIONS Patient-physician agreement regarding PPI therapy for GERD was moderate or good for the presence of residual symptoms and moderate for treatment satisfaction, but poor for treatment expectations. PPI treatment resulted in high satisfaction rates, but residual symptoms were fairly common and their severity was underestimated by physicians.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT) is a treatment capable of modifying the natural course of allergy, so ensuring good adherence to SIT is fundamental. Up until now there has not existed an instrument specifically developed to measure patient satisfaction with SIT, although its assessment could help us to comprehend better and improve treatment adherence and effectiveness. The aim of this study was to develop an instrument to measure adult patient satisfaction with SIT. METHODS Items were generated from a literature review, focus groups with allergic adult patients undergoing SIT, and a meeting with experts. Potential items were administered to allergic patients undergoing SIT in an observational, cross-sectional, multicenter study. Item reduction was based on quantitative and qualitative criteria. A preliminary assessment of feasibility, reliability, and validity of the retained items was performed. RESULTS An initial pool of 70 items was administered to 257 patients undergoing SIT. Fifty-four items were eliminated resulting in a provisional instrument with 16 items. Factor analysis yielded four factors that were identified as perceived efficacy, activities and environment, cost-benefit balance, and overall satisfaction, explaining 74.8% of variance. Ceiling and floor effects were negligible for overall score. Overall score was associated with the type and intensity of symptoms. CONCLUSION This is the first attempt to develop a satisfaction with SIT measure from the perspective of the allergic patient, and evidence has been found in favor of its reliability and validity.

Abstract
AIM The purpose of this study was to assess satisfaction level and related factors among patients who had an anesthesia during endoscopic procedures; and also validate a questionnaire for evaluating satisfaction with anesthesia. BACKGROUND The level of patient satisfaction with GI endoscopic procedure is an important criterion to indicate the level of expertise in endoscopy. PATIENTS AND METHODS We performed a prospective descriptive study at Resalat Hospital, Tehran, Iran. Three hundred seventy nine elective patients undergoing anesthesia for GI endoscopy procedure in 2010 were recruited. A 20-item questionnaire was used to evaluate the satisfaction with the anesthesia. The questionnaire was answered within 72 hours after the procedure. The satisfaction was graded into four major groups: anesthesia delivery, procedural recall, side effects and global satisfaction. RESULTS The level of satisfaction with anesthesia and its related factors were determined. The mean score of satisfaction with anesthesia delivery, procedural recall, side effects, global satisfaction, and total satisfaction (question 1-16) were 6.15 ± 1.23, 5.65± 1.48, 5.24± 1.16, 5.01± 1.29, and 5.46± 1.14, respectively. There was a significant difference in patients' satisfaction level between different jobs (p=0.02) as well as different levels of education (p=0.01). CONCLUSION Higher educational level was accompanied with greater satisfaction. The highest satisfaction score was seen among retired patients and the lowest level was found in housekeepers.

Abstract
Background Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) are considered important outcomes because they reflect the patient's experience in clinical trials. PROs have been included in the field of haemophilia only recently. Purpose Comparing the contents of PROs measures used in haemophilia, based on the ICF/ICF-CY as frame of reference. Methods Haemophilia-specific PROs for adults and children were selected on the grounds of international accessibility. The content of the selected instruments were examined by linking the concepts within the items of these instruments to the ICF/ICF-CY. Results Within the 5 selected instruments 365 concepts were identified, of which 283 concepts were linked to the ICF/ICF CY and mapped into 70 different categories. The most frequently used categories were "b152: Emotional functions" and "e1101: Drugs". Conclusions The present paper provides an overview on current PROs in haemophilia and facilitates the selection of appropriate instruments for specific purposes in clinical and research settings. Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to ascertain the scoring and assess the psychometric properties of the Eye-Drop Satisfaction Questionnaire (EDSQ), a 43-item Patient-Reported Outcome instrument developed to assess patients' satisfaction and compliance with glaucoma treatment. METHODS The EDSQ was administered during an observational, retrospective study to 184 French patients treated for glaucoma. The hypothesized structure, including six dimensions (patient-clinician relationship; patient experience; patient-treatment interaction; apprehension; patient knowledge; travel), was tested by assessing the internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alpha) and construct-related validity (item convergent and discriminant validity). As unsatisfactory results were demonstrated, another structure was defined using a principal component analysis (PCA) combined with content of items. Psychometric properties of this new structure were assessed. Scores were compared between low, moderate and high compliance profile groups defined using data collected with the Travalert electronic device. RESULTS Analyses were performed with the 169 patients who completed at least half of the EDSQ items. The hypothesized structure showed a Cronbach's alpha lower than 0.70 for four dimensions out of six and an overall poor construct-related validity (range of item-scale correlations: 0.00-0.68). The new structure obtained with the PCA included six dimensions: concern about treatment (five items); concern about disease (two items); satisfaction with patient-clinician relationship (five items); positive beliefs (three items); treatment convenience (three items); and self-declared compliance (three items). A score ranging from 0 to 100 was calculated for each dimension, with higher scores indicating more of the attribute referred to in the dimension. Internal consistency reliability was good (Cronbach's alpha greater than 0.70 for five dimensions). The structure offered good construct-related validity (range of item-scale correlations: 0.36-0.82). Ceiling effects of 21% and 49%, were observed for the satisfaction with patient-clinician relationship and self-declared compliance scores. Patients in low compliance profile group reported the lowest score for the satisfaction with patient-clinician relationship, positive beliefs, treatment convenience and self-declared compliance dimensions, and the highest score for the concern about treatment dimension. CONCLUSIONS The scoring of the EDSQ was developed and the questionnaire proved to have satisfactory psychometric properties. EDSQ scores showed a promising relationship to compliance profiles. The EDSQ could be used in future studies.
