Abstract
Fibromyalgia (FM) patients present impaired cardiac autonomic regulation during maximal exercise; however, it is unknown whether these alterations also manifest during submaximal exercise. The aim of this study was to compare the on-transient heart rate (HR) response and HR variability during a constant-load submaximal cycling exercise between FM and control (CON) women. Ten women with FM (age: 45.2±9.3 years) and 10 age-matched CON women (age: 48.4±6.1 years) performed a 15-min cycling exercise, with the work rate fixed at 50% of the individual peak power output attained in a maximal graded exercise test. The time intervals between consecutive heartbeats were recorded regularly during the exercise for subsequent analysis of on-transient HR response and HR variability indices. The on-transient HR time constant was similar (P=0.83) between the FM (41.0±14.1 sec) and CON (42.2±10.4 sec). During the 5-10 and 10-15 min of exercise, HR variability indices indicating sympathetic and parasympathetic activities were similar (P>0.05) between FM and CON groups. In conclusion, women with FM presented a normal cardiac autonomic response to submaximal cycling exercise. These findings have clinical relevance, as submaximal exercises are commonly prescribed for FM patients.

Abstract
Background The thyroid gland is an indispensable organ exerting control over the activity of multiple organ systems including the autonomic nervous system. This study attempted to monitor the variations in autonomic function parameters such as galvanic skin response (GSR) and muscle grip strength (HGS) in conjunction with changes in body fat percentage (BFP). Methodology This case-control study was conducted among 40 female hypothyroid patients as cases and 40 age-matched female healthy volunteers as controls. Anthropometric data were collected using standard techniques. GSR and HGS were measured using Equivital Sensory Electronic Module and Grip Force Transducer, respectively. Data extraction and analysis were done using the LabChart software. Results The mean age of the 40 female hypothyroid patients was 30.14 ± 5.91 years, whereas the mean age of the female controls was 29.37 ± 6.59 years. The waist circumference of cases was 85.81 ± 10.39 cm while that of controls was 80.90 ± 11.18 cm. The BFP of cases was 35.38% ± 6.74% while that of controls was 31.72% ± 5.63%. The GSR amplitude showed a significant difference between hypothyroid and healthy volunteers with values of 1.34 ± 1.14 μS and 2.40 ± 1.86 μS, respectively. The HGS indices showed no significant difference between the two groups. A statistically negative correlation was noted between BFP and GSR amplitude (-0.32), whereas a positive correlation was noted between BFP and mean handgrip strength (0.31) in hypothyroid patients. Conclusions The changes in BFP and autonomic function through GSR and HGS were evaluated in female hypothyroid patients with respect to healthy females. The interrelationship between anthropometry and autonomic function was also explored in this study. The findings of this study can augment prognosis in patients and ensure timely corrective treatment for improving quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of endurance training on heart rate (HR) on-kinetics in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SH). METHODS Eighteen women were randomly assigned to trained group (TG) or control group (CG). Both groups performed three tests at 50 W in a cycle ergometer for 6 min. HR kinetics was obtained during the tests and the mean response time (MRT), which is equivalent to the time taken to reach 63% of the HR at steady state, was extracted. The TG was then submitted to 12 weeks of endurance training (50 min, 3x/week, intensity between 70 and 85% of the maximum HR predicted for the age). Statistical analysis was performed by the mixed analysis of variance. RESULTS At baseline, TG and CG were similar for TSH (7.7 ± 3.1 vs. 6.9 ± 3.3 mUI/L, p = 0.602, respectively) and FT4 (12.31 ± 1.51 vs. 12.20 ± 1.89 pmol/L, p = 0.889, respectively). After adjustment for body mass index and age, interactions between moment (baseline or after 12 weeks) and group (trained or control) were only significant for MRT (TG: 39.6 ± 10 to 28.9 ± 8.4 s, CG: 53.6 ± 20.3 to 55 ± 19.7 s, p = 0.001) and physical activity level (CG: 7.3 ± 0.7 to 8 ± 0.9, CG: 6.8 ± 0.8 in both moments, p = 0.005). CONCLUSION The preliminary results suggest that 12 weeks of endurance training improve HR on-kinetics and physical activity level in SH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical guidelines recommend pregnant women without contraindication engage in regular physical activity. This is based on extensive evidence demonstrating the safety and benefits of prenatal exercise. However, certain medical conditions or contraindications warrant a reduction, modification or cessation of activity due to potential health risks. AIM To review and evaluate the evidence related to medical disorders which may warrant contraindication to prenatal exercise. METHODS Online databases were searched up to 5 April 2019. Forty-four unique studies that reported data on our Population (pregnant women with contraindication to exercise), Intervention (subjective/objective measures of acute or chronic exercise), Comparator (not essential) and Outcomes (adverse maternal or fetal outcomes) were included in the review. KEY FINDINGS We found that the majority of medical conditions listed as contraindications were based on expert opinion; there is minimal empirical evidence to demonstrate harm of exercise and benefit of activity restriction. We identified 11 complications (eg, gestational hypertension, twin pregnancy) previously classified as contraindications where women may in fact benefit from regular prenatal physical activity with or without modifications. However, the evidence suggests that severe cardiorespiratory disease, placental abruption, vasa previa, uncontrolled type 1 diabetes, intrauterine growth restriction, active preterm labour, severe pre-eclampsia and cervical insufficiency are associated with strong potential for maternal/fetal harm and warrant classification as absolute contraindications. CONCLUSION Based on empirical evidence, we provide a call to re-evaluate clinical guidelines related to medical disorders that have previously been considered contraindications to prenatal exercise. Removing barriers to physical activity during pregnancy for women with certain medical conditions may in fact be beneficial for maternal-fetal health outcomes.

Abstract
This study analyzed the differences in effects of a 12-week combination of exercise training program with resistance training and aerobic exercises on the risk factors of metabolic syndrome, carotid wall thickness, and thyroid function, between subclinical hypothyroidism patients and obese groups, in middle-aged women. Subjects consisted of either 20 middle-aged women in the subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) group or 20 obese (body mass indices [BMI], ≥ 25 kg/m2) women without hypothyroidism in the obese (OB) group. The body composition, blood lipid factors, hormones associated with thyroid functions, blood pressure (BP), and carotid intima-media thickness were measured, while physical fitness was ascertained. In the SCH group, waist circumference (WC) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol values were outside the normal ranges, while WC and systolic BP (SBP) were outside the normal ranges in the OB group. Following the 12-week training program, significantly positive changes occurred in body fat percentage, sit and reach test results, and SBP (p < 0.05) in the SCH group, while in the OB group, significantly positive changes in BMI, WC, sit and reach test results, SBP, and diastolic BP (DBP, p < 0.05) were observed. In addition, both groups showed significant decreases in intima-media thickness of the right carotid bifurcation (p < 0.05). However, in the two groups, the 12-week exercise training program did not have similar significant impact on the hormones related to thyroid functions and blood lipids. Therefore, further research on exercise training that can effectively induce changes in the hormones associated with thyroid functions in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism is necessary.
