Abstract
Stanozolol shows promise as an anabolic and anti-catabolic agent for treating degenerative joint disease (DJD). This study assessed the clinical efficacy of a single intra-articular stanozolol injection in canine knees with DJD and its correlation with serum IL-1β levels. Thirty dogs (n = 30) were divided into a control group (CG, n = 10) and a study group (SG, n = 20) with DJD. Pain levels were assessed using the Brown query, and radiographs were taken at T0 and T3. IL-1β levels were quantified via ELISA. Apart from 2 patients, all showed reduced pain intensity, with 15 patients showing improvement at T1 and 3 patients at T2. A positive correlation (r = 0.84; p < 0.01) was found between pain level and IL-1β in 15 patients. No systemic effects were observed. Most patients (18/20) experienced reduced pain. This pilot study suggests stanozolol's potential in managing DJD in dogs. Further research is warranted to validate these findings and understand stanozolol's mechanism in DJD treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pre-emptive local analgesia with the use of lidocaine is practised increasingly in veterinary medicine as part of applied multimodal analgesia, despite its controversial impact on wound healing. The purpose of this prospective, randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical study was to evaluate if preoperative subcutaneous infiltration of lidocaine has a negative impact on primary wound healing of surgical incisions. Fifty-two companion animals (3 cats and 49 dogs) were enrolled in the study. The inclusion criteria were as follows: American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) score I or II, a minimum body weight of 5 kg, and a planned incisional length of at least 4 cm. Surgical incisions were infiltrated subcutaneously with lidocaine without adrenaline or NaCl (placebo). Follow-up questionnaires for owners and veterinarians and thermography of the surgical wound were used to assess wound healing. Antimicrobial use was documented. RESULTS There was no significant difference in either the total score or the individual assessment points between the treatment and the placebo group on the owner or the veterinary questionnaires in regard to primary wound healing (P > 0.05 for all comparisons). No significant difference was found between the thermography results of the treatment and placebo group (P = 0.78), and there was no significant correlation between the total score from the veterinary protocol and thermography results (Spearman's correlation coefficient - 0.10, P = 0.51). Surgical site infections developed in 5/53 (9.4%) surgeries and its occurrence varied significantly between the treatment and the placebo group as all cases of infection were in the placebo group (P = 0.05). CONCLUSION The results of this study indicate that lidocaine used as a local anaesthetic did not affect wound healing in patients with ASA scores I-II. The results suggest that lidocaine infiltration in surgical incisions can be safely used to reduce pain.

Abstract
The course of multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by striking sex differences in symptoms such as fatigue and impaired thermal regulation, which are associated with aggravated systemic pro-inflammatory processes. The purpose of this study was to replicate these symptoms in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in C57BL/6 mice in the quest to advance the preclinical study of non-motor symptoms of MS. Male and female C57BL/6 mice exposed to a mild form of EAE were evaluated for the progression of clinical, behavioural, thermal, and inflammatory processes. We show higher susceptibility in females to EAE than males based on greater clinical score and cumulative disease index (CDI), fatigue-like and anxiety-like behaviours. Accordingly, infrared (IR) thermography indicated higher cutaneous temperatures in females from post-induction days 12-23. Females also responded to EAE with greater splenic and adrenal gland weights than males as well as sex-specific changes in pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. These findings provide the first evidence of a sex-specific thermal response to immune-mediated demyelination, thus proposing a non-invasive assessment approach of the psychophysiological dynamics in EAE mice. The results are discussed in relation to the thermoregulatory correlates of fatigue and how endogenously elevated body temperature without direct heat exposure may be linked to psychomotor inhibition in patients with MS.

Abstract
To compare the efficacy between the surgical techniques of gingivectomy with high-power laser (HPL) and conventional gingivectomy for correction of a gummy smile (GS) due to altered passive eruption (APE). This was a case series of six female patients diagnosed with GS associated with APE. For the conventional gingivectomy procedure and for the one using the diode laser (808 nm, 2 W, in continuous mode), the six upper anterior teeth were divided into two groups (control (CG)-# 11, # 12, # 13, and test (TG)-# 21, # 22, # 23). Analyses of intraoperative bleeding and levels of pain and postoperative tissue repair were performed. The thermal pattern analysis was performed using infrared thermography. The level of significance was set at p < 0.05. There was no intraoperative bleeding in the TGs (p = 0.002). The CG showed tissue repair significantly better than the TG on the 14th postoperative day (p = 0.004). There were no statistically significant differences regarding the level of postoperative pain between the groups (p > 0.05). Regarding the thermographic analysis, there were also no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05). HPL gingivectomy was more effective, regarding the absence of intraoperative bleeding, while the conventional technique promoted better tissue repair. No significant differences were observed in the other parameters, possibly due to the minimal damage caused by gingivectomy, with either HPL or the conventional procedure, as there was no removal of bone tissue.

Abstract
Infrared thermography (IRT) has been proposed as a method for clinical research to detect local inflammatory processes, wounds, neoplasms, pain, and neuropathies. However, evidence of the effectiveness of the thermal windows used in dogs and cats is discrepant. This review aims to analyze and discuss the usefulness of IRT in diverse body regions in household animals (pets) related to recent scientific evidence on the use of the facial, body, and appendicular thermal windows. IRT is a diagnostic method that evaluates thermal and circulatory changes under different clinical conditions. For the face, structures such as the lacrimal caruncle, ocular area, and pinna are sensitive to assessments of stress degrees, but only the ocular window has been validated in felines. The usefulness of body and appendicular thermal windows has not been conclusively demonstrated because evidence indicates that biological and environmental factors may strongly influence thermal responses in those body regions. The above has led to proposals to evaluate specific muscles that receive high circulation, such as the bicepsfemoris and gracilis. The neck area, perivulvar, and perianal regions may also prove to be useful thermal windows, but their degree of statistical reliability must be established. In conclusion, IRT is a non-invasive technique that can be used to diagnose inflammatory and neoplastic conditions early. However, additional research is required to establish the sensitivity and specificity of these thermal windows and validate their clinical use in dogs and cats.

Abstract
Evaluating laboratory animals' health and thermostability are fundamental components of all experimental designs. Alterations in either one of these parameters have been shown to trigger physiological changes that can compromise the welfare of the species and the replicability and robustness of the results obtained. Due to the nature and complexity of evaluating and managing the species involved in research protocols, non-invasive tools such as infrared thermography (IRT) have been adopted to quantify these parameters without altering them or inducing stress responses in the animals. IRT technology makes it possible to quantify changes in surface temperatures that are derived from alterations in blood flow that can result from inflammatory, stressful, or pathological processes; changes can be measured in diverse regions, called thermal windows, according to their specific characteristics. The principal body regions that were employed for this purpose in laboratory animals were the orbital zone (regio orbitalis), auricular pavilion (regio auricularis), tail (cauda), and the interscapular area (regio scapularis). However, depending on the species and certain external factors, the sensitivity and specificity of these windows are still subject to controversy due to contradictory results published in the available literature. For these reasons, the objectives of the present review are to discuss the neurophysiological mechanisms involved in vasomotor responses and thermogenesis via BAT in laboratory animals and to evaluate the scientific usefulness of IRT and the thermal windows that are currently used in research involving laboratory animals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low back pain during pregnancy is very common and thermography seems to be a promising method of evaluation for pregnant women, because it is painless and safe. The aim of the present study was to evaluate low back pain, during pregnancy, using thermography together with artificial intelligence. METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out with pregnant women recruited from a university hospital. The following data were collected: (a) clinical data; (b) physical assessment with mobility and low back pain provocation tests; and (c) thermograms acquisitions, in a controlled environment. Artificial intelligence and the statistical tests were used to compare the groups' mean: with low back pain (LBP) and without low back pain (WLBP). RESULTS Thirty pregnant women took part, with fifteen in each group. The mean ± Standard Deviation temperature of the lumbar region in both groups were 32.7 ± 1.05 °C and 32.6 ± 1.01 °C for LBP and WLBP, respectively. There was not any difference in temperature between the groups; however, the artificial intelligence software found thermogram differences between groups; furthermore, the correlation between pain intensity and functionality was found. CONCLUSION Thermography associated with artificial intelligence analyses demonstrated to be a promising method as an adjunct to clinical evaluation.

Abstract
CO2 surgical lasers are widely used for procedures in veterinary and human medicine. There is evidence to suggest surgery using a CO2 laser reduces pain and swelling and improves healing time compared with surgery with a scalpel. Millions of piglets in North America are surgically castrated each year using a scalpel. Therefore, piglet welfare may be improved by making refinements to the surgical procedure. The objectives of this preliminary study were to determine the ability of a CO2 surgical laser to (1) reduce pain and (2) improve wound healing of piglets undergoing surgical castration. Two-day-old male Yorkshire × Landrace piglets were used and randomly assigned to 1 of 3 treatments (n = 10 piglets/treatment group): surgical castration with the CO2 laser, surgical castration with a scalpel, or sham (uncastrated control). Piglets were video recorded in their pens for 1 hr preprocedure and from 0 to 2, 6 to 8, and at 24 hr postprocedure for behavior scoring. Surgical site images were collected at baseline, 0, 8, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, and 168 hr postcastration for wound healing assessment. Infrared thermography images of the surgical site were also taken at baseline, 0, 0.5, 8, and 24 hr postprocedure to assess inflammation. Finally, blood was collected from each piglet at baseline and 0.5 hr postcastration to assess cortisol levels, prostaglandin E metabolite and pig-major acute phase protein concentration. Laser-castrated piglets displayed more pain behaviors across the observation period than scalpel-castrated piglets (P = 0.05). Laser-castrated piglets also displayed significantly more agonistic behavior than both scalpel-castrated piglets (P = 0.005) and sham piglets (P = 0.036); yet, laser-castrated piglets had significantly lower temperatures at the site of incision compared with scalpel-castrated piglets (P = 0.0211). There was no significant difference in wound healing or any of the blood parameters assessed between laser-castrated and scalpel-castrated piglets. There was evidence of thermal tissue damage on the scrotum of piglets that were castrated using the CO2 laser. This may have resulted in the unremarkable healing time and the increased pain behavior observed in this study. The surgical laser technique should be refined before conclusions can be made regarding the utility of a CO2 laser for piglet castration.

Abstract
Even though animal trials are a controversial topic, they provide knowledge about diseases and the course of infections in a medical context. To refine the detection of abnormalities that can cause pain and stress to the animal as early as possible, new processes must be developed. Due to its noninvasive nature, thermal imaging is increasingly used for severity assessment in animal-based research. Within a multimodal approach, thermal images combined with anatomical information could be used to simulate the inner temperature profile, thereby allowing the detection of deep-seated infections. This paper presents the generation of anatomical thermal 3D models, forming the underlying multimodal model in this simulation. These models combine anatomical 3D information based on computed tomography (CT) data with a registered thermal shell measured with infrared thermography. The process of generating these models consists of data acquisition (both thermal images and CT), camera calibration, image processing methods, and structure from motion (SfM), among others. Anatomical thermal 3D models were successfully generated using three anesthetized mice. Due to the image processing improvement, the process was also realized for areas with few features, which increases the transferability of the process. The result of this multimodal registration in 3D space can be viewed and analyzed within a visualization tool. Individual CT slices can be analyzed axially, sagittally, and coronally with the corresponding superficial skin temperature distribution. This is an important and successfully implemented milestone on the way to simulating the internal temperature profile. Using this temperature profile, deep-seated infections and inflammation can be detected in order to reduce animal suffering.

Abstract
Simple Summary Pain management is lacking in U.S. commercial sheep production systems. This is, in part, due to the limited amount of scientific data evaluating sheep pain responses after analgesia treatment. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as meloxicam (MEL) and flunixin meglumine (FLU), are the most common drug class provided to livestock species to manage pain. Pain assessment tools, such as facial grimace scales, which use changes in facial expression to monitor pain, are also needed to improve pain management and sheep welfare. In this study, sheep undergoing a laparotomy (a surgical procedure where an incision is made into the abdominal cavity) were treated with either MEL or FLU to manage pain. A third group of ewes did not undergo surgery and served as study controls (CON). Behavior and physiologic outcome measures were collected pre-procedure and up to 48 h post-procedure. The results suggest that MEL and FLU were equally effective at providing post-operative analgesia; however, even with NSAID administration, acute pain and inflammation were still present in surgical sheep compared to non-surgical controls. The facial grimace scale results were not consistent with the other outcome measures taken in this study and it should not be used as a stand-alone pain assessment tool. Abstract The amount of scientific data evaluating sheep pain responses after analgesia treatment is limited. The aims of this study were to compare the efficacy of flunixin meglumine (FLU) and meloxicam (MEL) at relieving post-surgical pain in sheep and to evaluate the utility of the Sheep Grimace Scale (SGS). Thirty ewes were assigned to one of three treatment groups: oral MEL or intravenous FLU to manage pain associated with a laparotomy procedure, or a non-surgical control (CON) group. Behavior and physiologic outcome measures were collected pre-procedure and up to 48 h post-procedure. There were no significant differences in behavior, gait, degree of inflammation or pain around the surgical site when MEL and FLU sheep were compared, suggesting that both drugs provided similar levels of analgesia. Significant differences in behavior, gait, abdominal inflammation and pain were found when surgical sheep were compared to non-surgical controls. More work is needed to characterize the amount of pain relief provided by MEL and FLU. The SGS had moderate reliability between scorers; however, the results were inconsistent with the other study outcome measures. The SGS may have some utility as a pain assessment tool but should be used in conjunction with other pain measures.

Abstract
Background The discovery and development of new medicines requires high-throughput screening of possible therapeutics in a specific model of the disease. Infrared thermal imaging (IRT) is a modern assessment method with extensive clinical and preclinical applications. Employing IRT in longitudinal preclinical setting to monitor arthritis onset, disease activity and therapeutic efficacies requires a standardized framework to provide reproducible quantitative data as a precondition for clinical studies. Methods Here, we established the accuracy and reliability of an inexpensive smartphone connected infrared (IR) camera against known temperature objects as well as certified blackbody calibration equipment. An easy to use protocol incorporating contactless image acquisition and computer-assisted data analysis was developed to detect disease-related temperature changes in a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mouse model and validated by comparison with two conventional methods, clinical arthritis scoring and paw thickness measurement. We implemented IRT to demonstrate the beneficial therapeutic effect of nanoparticle drug delivery versus free methotrexate (MTX) in vivo. Results The calibrations revealed high accuracy and reliability of the IR camera for detecting temperature changes in the rheumatoid arthritis animal model. Significant positive correlation was found between temperature changes and paw thickness measurements as the disease progressed. IRT was found to be superior over the conventional techniques specially at early arthritis onset, when it is difficult to observe subclinical signs and measure structural changes. Conclusion IRT proved to be a valid and unbiased method to detect temperature changes and quantify the degree of inflammation in a rapid and reproducible manner in longitudinal preclinical drug efficacy studies.

Abstract
The science of animal welfare has evolved over the years, and recent scientific advances
have enhanced our comprehension of the neurological, physiological, and ethological
mechanisms of diverse animal species. Currently, the study of the affective states
(emotions) of nonhuman animals is attracting great scientific interest focused primarily
on negative experiences such as pain, fear, and suffering, which animals experience in
different stages of their lives or during scientific research. Studies underway today seek
to establish methods of evaluation that can accurately measure pain and then develop
effective treatments for it, because the techniques available up to now are not
sufficiently precise. One innovative technology that has recently been incorporated into
veterinary medicine for the specific purpose of studying pain in animals is called
infrared thermography (IRT), a technique that works by detecting and measuring levels of
thermal radiation at different points on the body’s surface with high sensitivity. Changes
in IRT images are associated mainly with blood perfusion, which is modulated by the
mechanisms of vasodilatation and vasoconstriction. IRT is an efficient, noninvasive method
for evaluating and controlling pain, two critical aspects of animal welfare in biomedical
research. The aim of the present review is to compile and analyze studies of infrared
thermographic changes associated with pain in laboratory research involving animals.

Abstract
Purpose. The aim of this work was to compare the temperature fluctuations that occur during the development of the implant bed using three different implant systems and the impact on their value of cooling method and rotational speed of drill. Material and Methods. As a model of the human jaw due to the analogy of bone structure and hardness, pig ribs were used. Drills from three different implant systems were used in the study: Straumann® (Straumann GmbH, Basel, Switzerland), AnyRidge® (Megagen Implant Co., Ltd., Daegu, South Korea), and Osstem (OSSTEM IMPLANT CO., LTD., Seoul, South Korea). The sequence of three successive drills was given—from pilot drill to final drill. For each system, a group with two water cooling methods, without cooling, and three different speed ranges, 800, 1200, and 1500 rpm, and their effect on temperature fluctuations was evaluated. The temperature was measured by thermography. Results. The highest temperature increases were noted during preparation with pilot drills. The maximum temperature (50.8°C) was noted for the AnyRidge pilot drill at 1500 rpm without cooling. When cooling with physiological saline, none of the applied drills exceeded 28°C. Significant differences between lack of cooling and cooling with saline at 20°C and 3°C have been demonstrated. During preparation with cooling, the difference between the times of the maximum temperature achievement was observed between AnyRidge® and Osstem (2.6 vs. 1.6 s, p=0.004). Conclusion. The experiment showed that the drills of the tested implant systems differed in the amount of heat generated during operation. The temperature of the cooling solution and the rotational speed applied have an influence on its amount.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the potential adverse effects of the dermal administration of Dillenia indica Linnaeus (D. indica) fruit extract in healthy rodents; the extract was standardized to betulinic acid. In the initial phase, the acute effects were evaluated on the skin application site of a single extract dose. A skin irritation test was performed in male Wistar rats (n = 8/group) receiving the extract (50–150 mg/mL) with betulinic acid (0.5–1.5%, respectively). A photosensitivity test was performed in male BALB/c mice (n = 6/group) receiving the extract (150 mg/mL). Afterwards, other BALB/c mice (n = 20, male:female, 1:1) were used to assess the systemic alterations caused by 14 daily repeated doses (150 mg/mL) by monitoring the effects on mortality, body morphology, behavior, nutrition status, neuromotor reactions, organ morphology and weight, and blood tests. At this time, 0.5 mg/mL clobetasol was used as the positive control. The skin irritation index suggested that negligible skin irritation had occurred, even when the extract was applied to the rat skin at 150 mg/mL. However, the extract acted as a photosensitizer on mouse skin, showing a photosensitizing activity close to that of 10 mg/mL 5-methoxypsoralen. Repeated doses caused no mouse mortality, aggressiveness, piloerection, diarrhea, convulsions, neuromotor alterations or nutrition status changes. The mouse organ weights did not change, and the mice did not have alterations in their blood compositions. Clobetasol caused a reduction in the mononuclear leukocyte numbers. In general, the data suggest that the extract was safe in healthy rodents but indicate that caution should be taken with the photosensitizing activity; in addition, this activity should be further explored as it may be useful for phototherapeutic drug development.

Abstract
RESUMO Objetivou-se estudar o efeito do ômega 3 e da vitamina B12 no espermograma, na histomorfometria dos órgãos reprodutivos e na temperaturas do corpo com termografia infravermelha em ratos Wistar. Utilizaram-se 16 ratos, em quatro grupos (n=4), que receberam injeções diárias por 30 dias, sendo: grupo controle - solução salina; grupo ômega 3 - óleo de peixe 1g/kg; grupo B12 - vitamina B12 3µg; e grupo ômega 3 + B12 - óleo de peixe 1g/kg e vitamina B12 3µg. Imagens termográficas de áreas do corpo foram obtidas. No 30º dia, os ratos foram sacrificados e realizaram-se as análises de morfologia espermática e histomorfometria. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e ao teste de Tukey a 5%. A temperatura da superfície do escroto foi superior no grupo B12 (P<0,05). Não houve diferenças entre grupos (P>0,05) para temperaturas do globo ocular. Houve correlação entre temperatura da superfície do escroto e porcentagem de gota citoplasmática distal (P=0,678). A elevação da temperatura do escroto resulta no aumento da porcentagem de gotas citoplasmáticas distais. A temperatura do globo ocular não sofre influência significativa do ômega 3 e da vitamina B12. O ômega 3 reduz o epitélio seminífero, e a vitamina B12 minimiza esse efeito.

Abstract
Temperature monitoring during critical care provides important data required to guide treatment delivery. Body temperatureis an easily quantified clinical parameter that can yield much information concerning the health of an animal. In researchsettings, temperature has been adopted as a means to judge humane endpoints. Therefore, reliable, noninvasive, and inexpensivemethods for temperature monitoring are becoming a necessity in research laboratories. This study aimed to determinethe accuracy and agreement of using an infrared camera as an alternative method of temperature measurement in mice andto compare the accuracy of this noninvasive method with established subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and rectal techniques.Measurement of body-surface temperature by using an infrared camera was compared with these 3 established methods inmale NMRI nude mice (n = 10; age, 10 mo); data were obtained 3 times daily over 14 d. Subcutaneous temperatures weremeasured remotely by using a previously implanted subcutaneous temperature transponder, after which temperature wasmeasured by using noncontact infrared thermometry and a rectal probe. Measurements from intraperitoneal data loggers wereobtained retrospectively. The data show that using an infrared camera provides a simple, reliable method for measuring bodytemperature in male NMRI nu/nu mice that minimizes handling and is minimally invasive. Whether infrared thermometry is a useful method for measuring body temperature in furred mice warrants further investigation.

Abstract
It is known that the reduction of blood vessels by epinephrine that are part of the local anesthetic leads to a decrease in oxygen intake and the development of hypoxia, which has a significant effect on the excitability of nerve fibers. This is due to the fact that epinephrine is present in the local anesthetic cartridge, which helps to reduce, until termination, microcirculation in the depot area, which leads to local hypothermia. With the introduction of local anesthetics, the temperature of which is significantly lower than the depot temperature, the patient experiences severe discomfort, which is associated with unsuccessful local anesthesia. The goal of the study was the need to analyze the feasibility of using the thermography method in assessing the degree of ischemia of the soft tissues of the maxillofacial region against the background of local anesthesia with a different concentration of epinephrine in dentistry. MATERIAL AND METHODS In the pilot study, 22 healthy volunteers aged between 29-35 years of both sexes participated. To assess the degree of external vasoconstriction, a buccal region was chosen near the maxilla. Infiltration anesthesia was used with a 4% solution of articaine with epinephrine 1: 100 000 and 1: 200 000 at a dosage of 0.5-0.7 ml. The temperature distribution in the study area was estimated using a thermal imager Nec InfReC Thermo Gear G30. RESULTS The study showed that the use of epinephrine in local anesthetics naturally has a moderate effect on hemodynamics in areas adjacent to the anesthesia depot. When using a low concentration of epinephrine (1:200 000), the projection hyperthermia of the skin is determined. Perhaps this is due to the activation of microcirculation due to an increase in capillary blood flow in the region above the zone of action of the epinephrine. From the point of view of physiological arterial hyperemia, this mechanism carries positive properties, since leads to an increase in tissue oxygenation. When using a high concentration of epinephrine (1:100 000), the zone of hypothermia of the skin is determined, which corresponds to the phenomenon of angiospastic ischemia.

Abstract
The excessive temperature fluctuations during dental implant site preparation may affect the process of bone-implant osseointegration. In the presented studies, we aimed to assess the quality of cooling during the use of 3 different dental implant systems (BEGO®, NEO BIOTECH®, and BIOMET 3i®). The swine rib was chosen as a study model. The preparation of dental implant site was performed with the use of 3 different speeds of rotation (800, 1,200, and 1,500 rpm) and three types of cooling: with saline solution at room temperature, with saline solution cooled down to 3°C, and without cooling. A statistically significant difference in temperature fluctuations was observed between BEGO and NEO BIOTECH dental systems when cooling with saline solution at 3°C was used (22.3°C versus 21.8°C). In case of all three evaluated dental implant systems, the highest temperature fluctuations occurred when pilot drills were used for implant site preparation. The critical temperature, defined in the available literature, was exceeded only in case of pilot drills (of all 3 systems) used at rotation speed of 1,500 rpm without cooling.

Abstract
A significant role is played in inflammation by the liver, which, stimulated by inflammatory mediators, synthetizes plasma proteins with various dynamics. The purpose of these studies is to generate a detailed dynamic analysis of changes to concentrations of plasma and serum protein fractions and selected acute-phase proteins as well as nonspecific biochemical indices during the course of an induced pleurisy. The studies were conducted on female inbred Buffalo rats, which were divided into two groups: a control group (C) and an experimental group (IP) in which pleurisy was induced. In the IP group, significant changes in biochemical indices were observed between the 48th and 96th hours of pleurisy. A reduction of albumin, transferrin, urea, and creatinine concentrations was observed, while concentrations of the complement components C3 and C4, haptoglobin, and fibrinogen increased. An early increase of IL-1 was observed, while increases of IL-6 and TNF were noted in the later period. The maximum intensity of the processes described above occurred between the 72nd and 96th hours of pleurisy.
