Abstract
AIM We aimed to compare the prevalence of modifiable and non-modifiable coronary heart disease (CHD) risk factors among those with premature CHD and healthy individuals. METHODS PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched (review protocol is registered in PROSPERO CRD42020173216). The quality of studies was assessed using the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute tool for cross-sectional, cohort and case-control studies. Meta-analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3. Effect sizes for categorical and continuous variables, odds ratio (OR) and mean differences (MD)/standardised mean differences (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported. RESULTS A total of n=208 primary studies were included in this review. Individuals presenting with premature CHD (PCHD, age ≤65 years) had higher mean body mass index (MD 0.54 kg/m2, 95% CI 0.24, 0.83), total cholesterol (SMD 0.27, 95% CI 0.17, 0.38), triglycerides (SMD 0.50, 95% CI 0.41, 0.60) and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (SMD 0.79, 95% CI: -0.91, -0.68) compared with healthy individuals. Individuals presenting with PCHD were more likely to be smokers (OR 2.88, 95% CI 2.51, 3.31), consumed excessive alcohol (OR 1.40, 95% CI 1.05, 1.86), had higher mean lipoprotein (a) levels (SMD 0.41, 95% CI 0.28, 0.54), and had a positive family history of CHD (OR 3.65, 95% CI 2.87, 4.66) compared with healthy individuals. Also, they were more likely to be obese (OR 1.59, 95% CI 1.32, 1.91), and to have had dyslipidaemia (OR 2.74, 95% CI 2.18, 3.45), hypertension (OR 2.80, 95% CI 2.28, 3.45), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (OR 2.93, 95% CI 2.50, 3.45) compared with healthy individuals. CONCLUSION This meta-analysis confirms current knowledge of risk factors for PCHD, and identifying these early may reduce CHD in young adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) activity has been proposed as a promising predictor of atherosclerosis-related complications and a prognostic marker for cardiovascular diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential correlation between serum levels of GGT and early-onset coronary artery disease (EOCAD). METHODS A retrospective, hospital-based case-control study was conducted, which included 860 patients with EOCAD and gender- and age-matched controls. Serum levels of GGT were measured using the reference measurement procedure on an automatic biochemistry analyser. RESULTS The serum GGT levels of patients with EOCAD (34.90 ± 31.44 U/L) were significantly higher than those of the control group (21.57 ± 16.44 U/L, p < .001). Elevated serum levels of GGT were found to be an independent risk factor for EOCAD, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.021 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.014-1.029). Additionally, for every quartile increase in serum GGT levels, the risk of developing EOCAD increased by 1.6-fold. Moreover, serum GGT levels were significantly associated with disease severity, with lower GGT levels observed in patients without significant vascular disease (31.74 ± 24.06 U/L) compared to those with two-vessel disease (33.06 ± 25.00 U/L, p = .002) and three-vessel disease (37.75 ± 36.76 U/L, p = .001). CONCLUSIONS The results of this study suggest that elevated serum GGT levels are associated with the development of EOCAD, and GGT may be implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to explore the potential relationship between serum GGT levels and the dynamic development of EOCAD.

Abstract
Hypertension remains a global threat to public health, affecting the worldwide population. It is one of the most common risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Today's treatments focus on creating a hypotensive effect. However, there is a constant search for additional factors to reduce the potential of developing hypertension complications. These factors may act as a parallel treatment target with a beneficial effect in specific populations. Some studies suggest that uric acid may be considered such a factor. This study investigated the potential effect of uric acid concentrations over 5 mg/dL on the incidence of hypertension complications among patients with very high cardiovascular risk. A total of 705 patients with hypertension and very high cardiovascular risk were selected and included in the analysis. The patients were divided and compared according to serum uric acid levels. The study showed a higher occurrence of heart failure (OR = 1.7898; CI: 1.2738-2.5147; p = 0.0008), atrial fibrillation (OR = 3.4452; CI: 1.5414-7.7002; p = 0.0026) and chronic kidney disease (OR = 2.4470; CI: 1.3746-4.3558; p = 0.0024) among individuals with serum uric acid levels over 5 mg/dL, males and those with a BMI > 25 kg/m2. These findings suggest that even serum uric acid concentrations over 5 mg/dL may affect the prevalence of hypertension-related complications among patients with very high cardiovascular risk.

Abstract
Background Coronary angiography (CAG) is an invasive examination with high risks and costs and various complications may occur. It is necessary to find a diagnostic method, non-invasiveness, inexpensive with low risk. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the levels of serum homocysteine (Hcy), cystatin C (Cys C) and uric acid (UA) and Gensini score in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and assess their diagnostic value for CHD. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 1412 patients underwent CAG from October 2019 to December 2021, and we conducted this study from January to July 2022. A total of 765 patients with CHD confirmed by CAG were selected as the research group, while 647 patients revealed as non-obstructive stenosis by CAG as the control group. The serum Hcy, Cys C and UA levels were detected and the correlation between Gensini score and variables was analyzed. The receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to assess the diagnostic value of the Hcy, Cys C and UA for CHD. Results The serum Hcy, Cys C and UA levels in the research group were higher as compared with the control group (p<0.05). Spearman correlation and multivariate linear regression analysis showed that there was a significantly positive correlation between Gensini score and serum Hcy, Cys C and UA levels (p<0.05). The ROC curve analysis presented the combined Hcy and Cys C with UA having the highest specificity of diagnostic value for CHD (area under the curve (AUC)=0.768, 95% CI 0.706-0.823, specificity = 72.34%, sensitivity = 67.88%, Youden Index = 0.4022). Conclusion The serum Hcy, Cys C and UA levels in patients with CHD were significantly increased, positive correlation with Gensini score. The combined Hcy and Cys C with UA could be used to assess the severity of coronary artery stenosis and provide predictive and early intervention treatment values for CHD and a new way of diagnosing CHD, which is cheap, safe, effective and deserving of clinical application.

Abstract
AIMS Family history is a known risk factor for early-onset myocardial infarction (EOMI). However, the role of modifiable lifestyle and metabolic factors in EOMI risk is unclear and may differ from that of older adults. METHODS This case-control study included myocardial infarction (MI) patients aged ≤45 years from the Bremen ST-elevation MI Registry and matched controls randomly selected from the general population (German National Cohort) at the same geographical region. Multiple logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the individual and combined associations of lifestyle and metabolic factors with EOMI risk, overall and according to family history for premature MI. RESULTS A total of 522 cases and 1191 controls were included. Hypertension, current smoking, elevated waist-to-hip ratio, and diabetes mellitus were strongly associated with the occurrence of EOMI. By contrast, higher frequency of alcohol consumption was associated with decreased EOMI risk. In a combined analysis of the risk factors hypertension, current smoking, body mass index ≥25.0 kg/sqm, and diabetes mellitus, participants having one (OR = 5.4, 95%CI = 2.9-10.1) and two or more risk factors (OR = 42.3, 95%CI = 22.3-80.4) had substantially higher odds of EOMI compared to those with none of these risk factors, regardless of their family history. CONCLUSION This study demonstrates a strong association of smoking and metabolic risk factors with the occurrence of EOMI. The data suggest that the risk of EOMI goes beyond family history and underlines the importance of primary prevention efforts to reduce smoking and metabolic syndrome in young persons.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disorder that has been associated with adverse cardiovascular (CV) events. Using the data from a nationwide, prospective registry on patients with chronic coronary syndromes (CCS), we assessed the impact of serum uric acid (SUA) levels on quality of life (QoL) and major adverse CV events (MACE), a composite of CV death and hospitalization for myocardial infarction, heart failure (HF), angina or revascularization at 1-year. METHODS AND RESULTS Among the 5070 consecutive CCS patients enrolled in the registry, levels of SUA were available for 2394 (47.2%). Patients with SUA levels available at baseline were grouped as low tertile (n = 860; 4.3 [3.7-4.7] mg/dL), middle tertile (n = 739; 5.6 [5.3-5.9] mg/dL) and high tertile (n = 795; 7.1 [6.7-7.9] mg/dL). At 1 year, the incidence of MACE was 3.7%, 4.1% and 6.8% for low, middle and high tertiles, respectively (p = 0.005 for low vs high tertile). Patients in the high tertile of SUA had a significantly higher rate of CV mortality (1.4% vs 0.4%; p = 0.05) and hospital admission for HF (2.8% vs 1.6%; p = 0.03) compared to the low tertile. However, hyperuricemia did not result as an independent predictor of MACE at multivariable analysis [hazard ratio: 1.27; 95% confidence intervals: 0.81-2.00; p = 0.3]. CONCLUSIONS In this contemporary, large cohort of CCS, those in the high tertile of SUA had a greater burden of CV disease and worse QoL. However, SUA did not significantly influence the higher rate of CV mortality, hospitalization for HF and MACE observed in these patients during 1-year follow-up.

Abstract
Uric acid (UA) is the final product of the catabolism of endogenous and exogenous purine nucleotides. While its association with articular gout and kidney disease has been known for a long time, new data have demonstrated that UA is also related to cardiovascular (CV) diseases. UA has been identified as a significant determinant of many different outcomes, such as all-cause and CV mortality, and also of CV events (mainly Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) and even strokes). Furthermore, UA has been related to the development of Heart Failure, and to a higher mortality in decompensated patients, as well as to the onset of atrial fibrillation. After a brief introduction on the general role of UA in CV disorders, this review will be focused on UA's relationship with CV outcomes, as well as on the specific features of patients with ACS and Chronic Coronary Syndrome. Finally, two issues which remain open will be discussed: the first is about the identification of a CV UA cut-off value, while the second concerns the possibility that the pharmacological reduction of UA is able to lower the incidence of CV events.

Abstract
Background: Serum uric acid (SUA) is a well-known predictor of adverse outcomes in patients with various clinical conditions. However, the impact of SUA on patients with myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) remains unclear. Here, we aimed at investigating the potential association between hyperuricemia and the adverse outcomes in MINOCA patients. Methods: Overall, 249 MINOCA patients were enrolled in the present study. Clinical characteristics and laboratory data, were measured in all patients. Based on SUA levels, patients were classified into two groups; the hyperuricemia group [SUA level > 6 mg/dL (360 μmol/L) in women and > 7 mg/dL (420 μmol/L) in men], and the normuricemia group. The primary endpoint of our study was major adverse cardiac events (MACE), defined as cardiovascular death, stroke, heart failure, non-fatal MI, and angina rehospitalization. Results: Seventy-two patients were in hyperuricemia group and 177 in normuricemia group. Fifty-two MACE events were recorded after 30 months of follow-up period. The incidence of MACE was higher in hyperuricemia group compared with normuricemia group (31.9 vs. 16.3%, P = 0.006). Kaplan-Meier survival curves illustrated a significantly increased risk of MACE in hyperuricemia group (log-rank P = 0.006). The multivariable logistic analysis demonstrated that hyperuricemia was independently associated with a high risk of MACE after 30 months of follow-up (OR, 2.234; 95% CI, 1.054-4.737, P = 0.036). Conclusion: Hyperuricemia is associated with adverse outcomes and appears to be an independent predictor of MACE in MINOCA patients. This finding suggests that the SUA levels may serve as a surrogate biomarker related to risk prediction and adverse outcomes of MINOCA patients.

Abstract
Background: Fatty acids (FAs) play crucial roles in modulating and preventing diseases in humans, including early-onset coronary artery disease (EOCAD). In this study, we aimed to provide a profile of FAs in the serum of EOCAD patients and identify potential EOCAD-associated FAs. Methods: In the first stage, we analyzed the FAs profiles in pooled samples of patients with EOCAD using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. In the second stage, the serum levels of the candidate FAs were validated in EOCAD patients. Results: A total of 128 EOCAD patients and 64 controls were included in the study. Forty-nine serum FAs were quantified in pooled samples; three ω-3 FAs were identified to be associated with EOCAD. Moreover, results from the validation stage indicated that serum levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were significantly lower in EOCAD patients (55.43 ± 33.86 µg/ml) and myocardial infarction (MI) patients (47.49 ± 28.44 μg/ml) than those in the controls (70.65 ± 43.56 µg/ml). Multivariate regression analysis revealed that elevated serum DHA level was an independent protective factor for EOCAD [odds ratio (OR) = 0.8917, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.879–0.957] and MI (OR = 0.835, 95% CI: 0.799–0.862). Decreased serum levels of docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) were observed in the early-onset MI group. Conclusion: The study provided the serum FAs profile of EOCAD and confirmed that the decrease in serum levels of DHA, DPA, and EPA was associated with EOCAD. These findings might contribute to understanding the cardiovascular effects of FAs, particularly the protective effects of ω-3 polyunsaturated FAs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Elevated serum uric acid (SUA) is associated with hypertension according to its traditional definition. We investigated the association between SUA and incident hypertension according to the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and American Society of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines. METHODS AND RESULTS In this retrospective cohort study, we enrolled 10,537 healthy individuals ≥30 years old who underwent a routine annual health examination with office blood pressure recorded at our hospital in 2016; of the participants, 7349 repeated the exam in 2017. According to the ESC and ACC guidelines, hypertension was defined as office BP ≥ 140/90 mmHg or ≥130/80 mmHg. Hyperuricemia (HUA) was defined as SUA ≥7 mg/dL in men and ≥6 mg/dL in women. The hypertension incidence was 5.8% among 6378 individuals in the ESC cohort and 19% among 4330 individuals in the ACC cohort. Incident hypertension was significantly more common in the hyperuricemic group than in the normouricemic group (ESC: 8.6% vs. 4.7%, P < 0.001; ACC: 25.5% vs. 16.9%, P < 0.001). In the fully adjusted multivariate logistic regression analyses, each increase in SUA was associated with an increase in incident hypertension risk (ESC: adjusted OR: 1.167, 95% CI: 1.061-1.284, P = 0.001; ACC: adjusted OR: 1.125, 95% CI: 1.044-1.213, P = 0.002). The association can be explained by a significant correlation of baseline SUA with the BP in the following year (r = 0.24, P < 0.001 for baseline SUA and SBP in the following year; r = 0.239, P < 0.001 for baseline SUA and DBP in the following year). CONCLUSION Elevated SUA was associated with incident hypertension in healthy individuals according to various contemporary BP guidelines (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03473951). Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Studies have shown inconsistent results about the association between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and mortality in hemodialysis patients. We performed this meta-analysis to determine whether higher SUA values comprised a risk factor of cardiovascular or all-cause mortality in maintenance hemodialysis patients. METHODS AND RESULTS Pubmed, Embase and the Cochrane library were searched up to August 31, 2020 for the longitudinal studies that investigated the association between the elevated SUA and cardiovascular or all-cause mortality risk in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Pooled adjusted hazard ratios (HR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using a random-effects model. We included 10 studies with an overall sample of 264,571 patients with hemodialysis in this meta-analysis. Patients with the highest SUA were associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular mortality (HR = 0.72, 95% CI 0.59-0.87) compared with patients with the lowest SUA after adjustment for potential confounders in a random effects model. Moreover, for each increase of 1 mg/dl of SUA, the overall risks of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality decreased by 6% and 9%, respectively (HR = 0.94, 95% CI 0.90-0.99; HR = 0.91, 95% CI 0.89-0.94). CONCLUSION Elevated SUA levels are strongly and independently associated with lower risk of cardiovascular mortality in maintenance hemodialysis patients. More designed studies, especially randomized controlled trials, should be conducted to determine whether high SUA levels is an independent risk factor of all-cause mortality in hemodialysis patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Uric acid (UA) possesses antioxidant features and potential neuroprotective effects. However, conflicting results regarding the association between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and the prognosis of stroke have been obtained. We aimed to assess whether SUA is related to discharge recovery and short-term outcomes in patients who underwent thrombolysis therapy. METHODS We recruited 393 consecutive patients who were diagnosed with acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) and treated with thrombolysis. The demographic information, including sex and age, was collected. Haematology tests, including SUA, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and blood lipid parameters, were performed under fasting conditions the morning after admission. The modified Rankin Scale (mRS) was used to assess the functional outcome of patients at discharge and 3 months after onset. RESULTS A negative correlation was observed between the levels of SUA and the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score at discharge (r = - 0.171, P = 0.003). Additionally, a positive correlation was observed between the levels of SUA and the difference between the baseline NIHSS and discharge NIHSS (r = 0.118, P = 0.032). The levels of SUA in the patients with good outcomes (353.76 ± 93.05) were higher than those in the patients with poor outcomes (301.99 ± 92.24; P = 0.015) at 3 months. The multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that a higher SUA level (odds ratio 0.988, 95% confidence interval 0.985-0.991, P = 0.002) was an independent predictor of a good outcome at 3 months. CONCLUSION Higher SUA levels were associated with better discharge recovery and 3-month outcomes in patients with ischaemic stroke who received thrombolysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS It has been reported that elevated serum uric acid (SUA) is related to inflammation and potentially to platelet hyper-reactivity. However, the relationship between elevated SUA and residual platelet reactivity is uncertain in patients on dual antiplatelet treatment (DAPT) with aspirin and clopidogrel. METHODS AND RESULTS A cross-sectional cohort study was conducted on 2569 patients undergoing DAPT with aspirin and clopidogrel. Patients' SUA levels, residual platelet aggregation, routine blood tests and clinical characteristics were recorded. The relationship between SUA level and residual platelet aggregation was assessed by correlation analysis, and the relationship between SUA level and the prevalence of clopidogrel low response (CLR) was assessed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) induced platelet aggregation (PLADP) was higher in normal-SUA group than that in hyperuricemia group [30(21, 40) % vs. 27(19, 39) %, p = 0.032]. No significant difference was found for arachidonic acid (AA) induced platelet aggregation (PLAA) between the two groups [4(2, 5) % vs. 3(2, 5) %, p = 0.557]. The correlation between SUA and PLADP was statistically significant(r = -0.115, p < 0.001), while that between SUA and PLAA was non-significant (r = -0.012, p = 0.643). Using the multivariate logistic regression analysis, higher SUA concentration was associated with a decreased risk of clopidogrel low response (CLR) (OR [95%CI] = 0.997 [0.995-0.999], p = 0.001). CONCLUSION This is the largest study to date showing that in patients receiving DAPT with aspirin and clopidogrel, SUA is independently and negatively associated with the prevalence of clopidogrel low response. Abstract
Background: Genome-wide linkage analysis revealed the polymorphism of rs6748040 and glutamic acid repeat are potential pathogenic factors of early-onset myocardial infarction (MI). The present study was designed to investigate the associations of Alström syndrome 1 (ALMS 1) gene in Chinese populations with early-onset coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: The two variants of the ALMS 1 gene were genotyped in 1252 early-onset CAD patients and 1378 controls using PCR, followed by Sml I restriction enzyme digestion or direct sequencing of the PCR product. The associations were estimated using the odds ratio (OR) and the 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: A significant association between the ALMS 1 G/A variant and the risk of early-onset MI was detected in G vs.A (OR = 1.371, 95% CI: 1.183–1.589), GG vs. AA (OR = 2.037, 95% CI: 1.408–2.948), dominant genetic model (OR = 1.794, 95% CI: 1.254–2.567), and recessive genetic model (OR = 1.421, 95% CI: 1.177–1.716). 14 glutamic acid repeat (A14) is risk factor for early-onset MI (OR = 1.605, 95% CI: 1.313–1.962) and 17 glutamic acid repeat (A17) is protective factor for the disease (OR = 0.684, 95% CI: 0.601–0.827). These associations were not detected in early-onset CAD patients. Conclusions: Our findings indicated that G/A variant (rs6748040) and glutamic acid repeat polymorphism of the ALMS 1 gene associated with the risk of early-onset MI in the Chinese population.

Abstract
To investigate the correlation between uric acid (UA) and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels and coronary artery severity in acute coronary syndrome patients of different sexes.A total of 134 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) were investigated. According to sex, there were 96 cases in male group and 38 cases in female group. According to the number of diseased vessels, the degree of coronary artery lesion was determined and divided into negative group (n = 21), single vessel lesion group (n = 43), double vessel lesion group (n = 38), and 3 vessel lesion group (n = 32).Univariate analysis showed that UA, NT-proBNP was correlated with the severity of ACS (P < .05). UA was an independent risk factor for the severity of coronary artery disease in female group (P < .05), but not in male group (P > .05). There was no significant correlation between NT-proBNP and severity of coronary artery disease in different sex (P > .05).UA was significantly correlated with the severity of coronary heart disease, especially in women, but not in men. The level of NT-proBNP was positively correlated with the severity of coronary artery, but no significant difference was found in different sexes.

Abstract
Introduction: Hyperuricemia has been associated with increased cardiovascular events in the general population. However, the role of serum uric acid (SUA) level on the severity of coronary artery stenosis (CAS) in nondialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients is obscure. Methods: We implement a retrospective cohort study of 734 patients diagnosed with stage 3-5 CKD. All selected patients underwent coronary artery angiography. The associations of SUA with the present, and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) were analyzed. Results: Of these 734 patients, 511 patients had angiographically proven CAD. Compared with non-CAD group, the SUA level in CAD group was much higher (388.00 vs. 363.00 μmol/l, P < 0.01). After adjusting for multiple confounding factors, a multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that SUA was relevant to the presence of CAD when SUA as a continuous variable. However, this relationship was not observed with SUA as a categorical variable. In a subgroup analysis for the CAD group, we found that the rates of severe CAS in the third tertile of SUA (58.6%) was higher than that in the first tertile (41.6%) (P < 0.01). Compared with the first tertile of SUA, the third tertile of SUA was an independent risk factor for severe arterial stenosis (odds ratio, OR, 1.976 [1.203-3.248]), a pattern that was recapitulated by multivariate logistic regression analysis with SUA as a continuous variable (1.002 [1.000-1.004]). Conclusions: The SUA level may serve as a predictor of the severity of CAS among nondialysis CKD patients with CAD.

Abstract
Background: Adenosine deaminase (ADA) regulates purine metabolism through the conversion
of adenosine to uric acid (UA). Adenosine and UA are closely associated with
cardiovascular events, but the correlation between serum ADA activity and
coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been defined. Methods: We performed a hospital-based retrospective case-control study that included
a total of 5212 patients with CAD and 4717 sex- and age-matched controls.
The serum activity of ADA was determined by peroxidase assays in an
automatic biochemistry analyzer. Results: Serum ADA activity in the CAD group (10.08 ± 3.57 U/l) was significantly
lower than that of the control group (11.71 ± 4.20 U/l, p
< 0.001). After adjusting for conventional factors, serum ADA activity
negatively correlated with the presence of CAD (odds ratio = 0.852, 95%
confidence interval: 0.839–0.865, p < 0.001). Among the
patients with CAD, serum ADA activity was lowest in patients with myocardial
infarction (MI; 9.77 ± 3.80 U/l). Diabetes mellitus and hypertension
increased the serum ADA activity in CAD patients. Conclusions: Serum ADA activity is significantly attenuated in patients with CAD,
particularly in MI. We propose a mechanism by which the body maintains
adenosine levels to protect the cardiovascular system in the event of
CAD.

Abstract
Objective: The objective of the present study was to meta-analyze relevant literature to gain a comprehensive understanding of the potential relationship between serum uric acid levels and risk of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Methods: The databases of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, and SinoMed were systematically searched for observational case-control studies of the association between BPPV and serum uric acid levels published up to October 2018. Data from eligible studies were meta-analyzed using Stata 12.0. Results: A total of 12 studies were included in the analysis. There was a strong tendency for serum uric acid levels to be associated with risk of BPPV among studies conducted in China (OR 0.69, 95%CI 0.01–1.40, p = 0.053), but not among studies outside China (OR 1.07, 95%CI 1.08–3.22, p = 0.33). Across all studies, serum uric acid level was significantly higher among individuals with BPPV than among controls (OR 0.78, 95%CI 0.15–1.41, p = 0.015), yet it did not independently predict risk of the disorder (OR 1.003, 95%CI 0.995–1.012, p = 0.471). Conclusion: The available evidence suggests that BPPV is associated with elevated levels of serum uric acid, but these levels may not be an independent risk factor of BPPV.
