Abstract
INTRODUCTION The prevalence of potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) is becoming a major safety concern, as it has been previously linked to a significant number of adverse drug events and could have serious consequences for patients, including death. This is especially relevant for patients with chronic renal failure, as they are particularly vulnerable to drug-drug interactions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and associated factors of pDDIs in patients receiving chronic peritoneal dialysis. METHODS An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted on consecutive peritoneal dialysis patients attending four tertiary care hospitals for regular monthly examination. The primary outcome was the number of pDDIs identified using Lexicomp. Potential predictors were determined using multiple linear regression. RESULTS Total number of patients included in the study was 140. The results showed that pDDIs were highly prevalent, especially in patients who use antiarrhythmics (p = 0.001), have diabetes mellitus (p = 0.001), recently started peritoneal dialysis (p = 0.003), or have higher number of prescribed drugs (p < 0.001). Number of prescribed drugs (p < 0.001) remained a significant predictor of high-risk pDDIs in addition to the female gender (p = 0.043). CONCLUSION Clinicians should be particularly cautious when prescribing multiple medications to high-risk patients, such as peritoneal dialysis patients, to mitigate the risk of drug-drug interactions and associated adverse health outcomes.

Abstract
For the past 30 years, nephrologists have focused on a single minimal threshold of Kt/Vurea to determine the adequacy of peritoneal dialysis (PD). To date, there is no evidence that shows Kt/Vurea to be a good surrogate measure of uremic symptom control or nutritional state in patients on PD. Volume of distribution (Vurea) generally is considered equivalent to total body water (TBW). Yet, accurate determination of TBW is difficult. The most recent International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis practice recommendations on prescribing high-quality PD emphasized incorporation of multiple measures rather than the single value of Kt/Vurea. These measures include shared decision-making between the patient and the care team and assessment of health-related quality of life, burden of uremic symptoms, presence of residual kidney function, volume status, and biochemical measures including serum potassium and bicarbonate levels. In some cases, PD prescriptions can be tailored to the patient priorities and goals of care, such as in frail and pediatric patients. Overall, there has been a paradigm shift in providing high-quality care to PD patients. Instead of focusing on small solute clearance in the form of Kt/Vurea, nephrologists are encouraged to use a more comprehensive assessment of the patient as a whole.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypokalemia (LK) was associated with peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, while the role of its degree and duration have not been fully established. Here, we conducted a retrospective cohort study to identify the relationships of LK degree and duration with peritonitis in PD patients. METHODS A total of 602 PD patients in our department from Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2019 entered the last analysis. Data were collected from their medical records. Serum potassium (SK) levels, degree of hypokalemia, and duration of hypokalemia were analysed with peritonitis. The time association of hypokalemia and peritonitis was also analysed. RESULTS There were totally 320 (53.7%) and 123 (20.7%) patients who had ever suffered from LK and serious hypokalemia (SLK) in the cohort. Only 6.82% and 0.5% of patients had LK and SLK at baseline, while the incidence increased and kept in 25%-32% and 5.5%-8.2% after PD. Both LK (HR 1.437, 95% CI 1.014-2.038, P = .042) and SLK (HR 2.021, 95% CI 1.429-2.857, P < .001) did correlate to peritonitis after adjusted analyses, while only SLK remained the significance at each follow-up point. The LK/SLK durations were 6 (3-12) and 6 (3-6) months, and only longer SLK duration correlated with peritonitis after adjusted analyses. After categorised, those LK durations more than 6 months and SLK durations more than 3 months presented a significant association with peritonitis. Of the patients who suffered from both hypokalemia and peritonitis, 70.4% patients' LK times were earlier than peritonitis time, while most SLK times (62.7%) were later. SLK also correlated with combined endpoint. CONCLUSIONS Hypokalemia degree and duration were tightly associated with peritonitis. Hypokalemia might be a causal factor of peritonitis, while peritonitis might also aggravate hypokalemia. We should manage SK as much as possible and avoid hypokalemia, especially serious hypokalemia in clinic practice.

Abstract
Objective To develop and validate a preoperative index-based nomogram for the prediction of hypokalemia in patients with pituitary adenoma (PA). Methods This retrospective cohort study included 205 patients with PAs between January 2013 and April 2020 in the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Guangzhou, China. The patients were randomly classified into either a training set (N = 143 patients) and a validation set (N = 62 patients) at a ratio of 7:3. Variables, which were identified by using the LASSO regression model were included for the construction of a nomogram, and a logistic regression analysis was used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in the training set. The area under the curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the performance of the nomogram for predicting hypokalemia. Multivariate logistic regression analysis with a restricted cubic spline analysis was conducted to identify a potential nonlinear association between the preoperative index and hypokalemia. Results The incidence of hypokalemia was 38.05%. Seven preoperative indices were identified for the construction of the nomogram: age, type of PA, weight, activated partial thromboplastin time, urea, eosinophil percentage, and plateletocrit. The AUCs of the nomogram for predicting hypokalemia were 0.856 (95% CI [0.796–0.915]) and 0.652 (95% CI [0.514–0.790]) in the training and validation sets, respectively. Restricted cubic splines demonstrated that there was no nonlinear association between hypokalemia and the selected variables. Conclusion In this study, we constructed a preoperative indices-based nomogram that can assess the risk of hypokalemia after the surgical treatment of pituitary adenomas. This nomogram may also help to identify high risk patients who require close monitoring of serum potassium.

Abstract
Magnesium as an enzymatic activator is essential for various physiological functions such as cell cycle, metabolic regulation, muscle contraction, and vasomotor tone. A growing body of evidence supports that magnesium supplementation (mainly magnesium sulfate and magnesium oxide) prevents or treats various types of disorders or diseases related to respiratory system, reproductive system, nervous system, digestive system, and cardiovascular system as well as kidney injury, diabetes and cancer. The ongoing pandemic coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) characterized by respiratory tract symptoms with different degrees of important organ and tissue damages has attracted global attention. Particularly, effective drugs are still lacking in the COVID-19 therapy. In this review, we find and summarize the effectiveness of magnesium supplementation on the disorders or diseases, and provide a reference to the possibility of magnesium supplementation for supportive treatment in patients with COVID-19.
