Abstract
Choroid plexus tumors (CPT) are rare and highly vascularized neoplasms that have three histologically confirmed diagnoses, including choroid plexus papilloma, atypical choroid plexus papilloma, and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). This study aimed to determine the epidemiology and survival of patients with CPTs and develop a nomogram to quantify the prognosis of the patients with CPT. Data of 808 patients who were diagnosed as CPT between 2000 and 2020 was obtained from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database. Descriptive analysis was used to assess the distribution and tumor-related characteristics of the patients with CPT. Independent prognostic factors for patients with CPT were identified by univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. The nomogram was established and evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA), calibration curves. The independent prognostic factors for patients with CPT are age, tumor size, surgery, chemotherapy, tumor number, pathologies, and race. For the prognostic nomogram, the area under the curve (AUC) of 60-, 120-, and 180-months were 0.855, 0.869 and 0.857 in the training set and 0.836, 0.864 and 0.922 in the test set. The DCA and calibration curve indicated the good performance of the nomogram. Patients with CPTs can be diagnosed at any age. Among the three histopathological tumors, patients with CPC had the worst prognosis. The nomogram was established to predict the prognosis of patients with CPT, which had satisfactory accuracy, and clinical utility may benefit for clinical decision-making.

Abstract
Background: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare neoplasms found in the central nervous system, comprising 1% of all brain tumors. These tumors include choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP), and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). Although gross total resection for choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) is associated with long-term survival, there is a scarcity of prospective data concerning the role and sequence of neoadjuvant therapy in treating aCPP and CPC. Methods: From the years 2000 to 2019, 679 patients with CPT were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) database. Among these patients, 456 patients had CPP, 75 patients had aCPP, and 142 patients had CPC. Univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazard models were run to identify variables that had a significant impact on the primary endpoint of overall survival (OS). A predictive nomogram was built for patients with CPC to predict 5-year and 10-year survival probability. Results: Histology was a significant predictor of OS, with 5-year OS rates of 90, 79, and 61% for CPP, aCPP, and CPC, respectively. Older age and African American race were prognostic for worse OS for patients with CPP. Older age was also associated with reduced OS for patients with aCPP. American Indian/Alaskan Native race was linked to poorer OS for patients with CPC. Overall, treatment with gross total resection or subtotal resection had no difference in OS in patients with CPP or aCPP. Meanwhile, in patients with CPC, gross total resection (GTR) was associated with significantly better OS than subtotal resection (STR) only. However, there is no difference in OS between patients that receive GTR and patients that receive STR with adjuvant therapy. The nomogram for CPC considers types of treatments received. It demonstrates acceptable accuracy in estimating survival probability at 5-year and 10-year intervals, with a C-index of 0.608 (95% CI of 0.446 to 0.77). Conclusions: This is the largest study on CPT to date and highlights the optimal treatment strategies for these rare tumors. Overall, there is no difference in OS with GTR vs. STR in CPP or aCPP. Furthermore, OS is equivalent for CPC with GTR and STR plus adjuvant therapy.

Abstract
PURPOSE Choroid plexus carcinomas (CPCs) are extremely rare brain tumors and carry a dismal prognosis. Treatment options are limited and there is an urgent need to develop models to further research. In the present study, we established two CPC cell lines and performed multi-omics analyses. These cell lines serve as valuable models to propose new treatments in these rare but deadly brain tumors. METHODS Multi-omic profiling including, (i) methylation array (EPIC 850 K), (ii) whole genome sequencing (WGS), (iii) CANCERPLEX cancer genome panel testing, (iv) RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), and (v) proteomics analyses were performed in CCHE-45 and NGT131 cell lines. RESULTS Both cell lines were classified as methylation class B. Both harbored pathogenic TP53 point mutations; CCHE-45 additionally displayed TP53 loss. Furthermore, alterations of the NOTCH and WNT pathways were also detected in both cell lines. Two protein-coding gene fusions, BZW2-URGCP, and CTTNBP2-ERBB4, mutations of two oncodrivers, GBP-4 and KRTAP-12-2, and several copy number alterations were observed in CCHE-45, but not NGT131. Transcriptome and proteome analysis identified shared and unique signatures, suggesting that variability in choroid plexus carcinoma tumors may exist. The discovered difference's importance and implications highlight the possible diversity of choroid plexus carcinoma and call for additional research to fully understand disease pathogenesis. CONCLUSION Multi-omics analyses revealed that the two choroid plexus carcinoma cell lines shared TP53 mutations and other common pathway alterations and activation of NOTCH and WNT pathways. Noticeable differences were also observed. These cell lines can serve as valuable models to propose new treatments in these rare but deadly brain tumors.

Abstract
Choroid plexus carcinomas (CPC) are rare aggressive tumours that primarily affect very young children. Treatment for CPC typically involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Whilst considered necessary for a cure, these therapies have significant neurocognitive consequences for patients, negatively impacting cognitive function including memory, attention, executive functioning, and full-scale intelligence quotients (FSIQ). These challenges significantly impact the quality of life and ultimately socioeconomic parameters such as the level of educational attainment, marital status, and socioeconomic status. This review looks at the tumour- and treatment-related causes of neurocognitive damage in CPC patients and the progress made in finding strategies to reduce these. Opportunities to mitigate the neurodevelopmental consequences of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy are explored in the context of CPC treatment. Evaluation of the pathological and biological mechanisms of injury has identified innovative approaches to neurocognitive protection and neurorehabilitation, which aim to limit the neurocognitive damage. This review aims to highlight multiple approaches physicians can use when treating young children with CPC, to focus on neurocognitive outcomes as a measure of success.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuroimaging has evolved from anatomical imaging toward a multi-modality comprehensive anatomical and functional imaging in the past decades, important functional data like perfusion-weighted imaging, permeability imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), tractography, metabolic imaging, connectomics, event-related functional imaging, resting state functional imaging, and much more is now being offered. SUMMARY Precision diagnostics has proven to be essential for precision treatment. Many minimal invasive techniques have been developed, taking advantage of digital subtraction angiography and interventional neuroradiology. Furthermore, intraoperative CT and/or MRI and more recently MR-guided focused ultrasound have complemented the diagnostic and therapeutic armamentarium. KEY MESSAGES In the current manuscript, we discuss standard imaging sequences including advanced techniques like DWI, DTI, susceptibility-weighted imaging, and 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy, various perfusion weighted imaging approaches including arterial spin labeling, dynamic contrast enhanced imaging, and dynamic susceptibility contrast imaging. Pre-, intra, and postoperative surgical imaging including visualize imaging will be discussed. The value of connectomics will be presented for its value in neuro-oncology. Minimal invasive therapeutic possibilities of interventional neuroradiology and image-guided laser ablation and MR-guided high-intensity-focused ultrasound will be presented for treatment of pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors. Finally, a comprehensive review of spinal cord tumors and matching neuropathology has been included.

Abstract
Introduction/background Although central nervous system tumors are the most common etiology of malignancies in the pediatric age group, choroid plexus carcinomas are rare, with an annual incidence rate of 0.10 per 100,000 children. Case presentation We report the case of an adolescent male belonging to central India who had presented with a history of persistent headache, projectile vomiting, neck stiffness, and an episode of generalized tonic-clonic seizure. Neurological examination was suggestive of a space-occupying lesion. Further neuroimaging was suggestive of a large left-sided choroid plexus carcinoma, later confirmed on pathological examination. Gross total resection was achieved and followed by radiation therapy. His recovery was satisfactory without any major events despite suffering from such a malignancy with a poor prognosis. Conclusion In the absence of a global consensus on choroid plexus carcinoma management, our patient underwent a successful gross total resection and received postoperative radiotherapy. He made a satisfactory recovery with a further plan to review with gadolinium-enhanced neuroimaging at a later date. We conclude that, when possible, achieving gross total resection is of utmost importance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Choroid plexus tumours (CPT) are rare intraventricular tumours representing less than 0.5 % of brain tumours. The tumour is commonly located in the supratentorial region, but the location varies depending on the age. We present our experience of managing these tumours in a tertiary hospital. METHODS Retrospectively, we reviewed our operative database and recruited 80 cases of CPT who underwent surgical treatment in our institute from 1995 to 2018. We analysed the factors affecting the outcome and the perioperative complications of the choroid plexus tumour. RESULTS A total of 80 choroid plexus tumours were recruited in our retrospective review, of which 44 were choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), 13 were atypical choroid plexus tumours (ACPP), 23 were choroid plexus carcinomas (CPC). The mean age was 16.75 (SD 16.71) in the overall cohort. Males were found to be predominant in all tumour groups (M/F: 46/34). Headache was the most common symptom (52.5 %). Hydrocephalus was seen in 53.8 % of cases. The median overall survival was 89.88 months. Gross total resection was achieved in 62.5 % cases (n = 50/80), and near-total resection in 27. 5 % cases (n = 22/80). The median overall survival was 89.88 months. The median overall survival for CPP, ACPP, CPC was 106.83, 37.37, 36.19 months, respectively. Median Event-free survival was 65.83 months. A Cox regression analysis of predictors of overall survival of atypical CPP and CPC was done, in which age, sex, location, size, the extent of the resection, and complications were considered. The extent of the resection (p = 0.01) and the size (p = 0.02) were related to overall survival CONCLUSION: CPT's are the rare intraventricular tumours, which requires aggressive resection strategies. The extent of resection offers survival benefit based on the histological grades.

Abstract
Background Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) is a cancer predisposition syndrome characterized by the early-onset of multiple primary cancers which can occur at different moments (metachronous onset) or, more rarely, coincidentally (synchronous onset). Here we describe a previously unreported patient with presentation of synchronous Wilms tumor and Choroid plexus papilloma, leading to the diagnosis of a Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS). Case presentation A 6-year-old girl without previous complains presented with abdominal pain. Abdominal US and MRI showed a left renal tumor with subcapsular hematoma. Due to mild headaches, the diagnostic workup included a brain MRI that unexpectedly identified a large left parietal lobe tumor. Histopathological analysis determined the diagnosis of classic Wilms tumor and choroid-plexus papilloma (CPP), respectively. Both neoplasms showed intense nuclear p53 immunostaining associated with the pathogenic TP53 mutation c.844C > T (p.Arg282Trp). Our patient and her father shared the same heterozygous germline TP53 mutation, confirming the diagnosis of familiar Li-Fraumeni syndrome in the girl. The treatment was tailored to simultaneous tumor presentations. Conclusions LFS has been associated with Choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC), but rarely with CPP as in our patient. That suggests that it may be advisable to consider the possibility of analyzing TP53 mutation, not only in all patients with CPC, but also in some patients with CPP, especially when histological or clinical evidences point out to perform this study. The dissimilar presentation of LFS among our patient’s father, not having so far any neoplasia diagnosed, while her daughter presented precociously with two simultaneous different tumors, could be related to possible effects of modifier genes on the underlying mutant p53 genotype. Abstract
Macrocephaly affects up to 5% of the pediatric population and is defined as an abnormally large head with an occipitofrontal circumference (OFC) >2 standard deviations (SD) above the mean for a given age and sex. Taking into account that about 2-3% of the healthy population has an OFC between 2 and 3 SD, macrocephaly is considered as "clinically relevant" when OFC is above 3 SD. This implies the urgent need for a diagnostic workflow to use in the clinical setting to dissect the several causes of increased OFC, from the benign form of familial macrocephaly and the Benign enlargement of subarachnoid spaces (BESS) to many pathological conditions, including genetic disorders. Moreover, macrocephaly should be differentiated by megalencephaly (MEG), which refers exclusively to brain overgrowth, exceeding twice the SD (3SD-"clinically relevant" megalencephaly). While macrocephaly can be isolated and benign or may be the first indication of an underlying congenital, genetic, or acquired disorder, megalencephaly is most likely due to a genetic cause. Apart from the head size evaluation, a detailed family and personal history, neuroimaging, and a careful clinical evaluation are crucial to reach the correct diagnosis. In this review, we seek to underline the clinical aspects of macrocephaly and megalencephaly, emphasizing the main differential diagnosis with a major focus on common genetic disorders. We thus provide a clinico-radiological algorithm to guide pediatricians in the assessment of children with macrocephaly.

Abstract
Background Atypical choroid plexus papilloma is a recently introduced entity with intermediate pathological characteristics. These tumors are relatively rare and the optimal management of these tumors is a matter of debate. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and pooled analysis about the effects of adjuvant therapies on outcome measures of these patients. We also compared these effects on totally and partially resected tumors and pediatric and adult populations. Methods A systematic search of 3 databases based on inclusion/exclusion criteria was performed. Data extraction was separately performed by 2 authors, and the summarized data were presented in the form of tables. Pooled estimates of different outcome measures were calculated for each adjuvant therapy and presented separately for studies with pediatric, adult, or mixed populations. Results A review of 14 included studies consisting of 144 patients revealed the effect of adjuvant treatment on reduction of tumor recurrence, metastasis, and reoperation rates and increasing survival rates in patients with subtotal tumor resection. This advantage was not seen in the case of gross total tumor resection. Almost all outcome measures were more favorable in the pediatric population. Conclusions It can be concluded that whenever gross total resection is not feasible, the implementation of adjuvant therapy can improve the outcome and prognosis. In other cases, it should be decided on an individual basis. Also, more aggressive behavior and higher rates of recurrence and mortality in the adult population suggest the consideration of more aggressive adjuvant treatments for adult patients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) represent one of the most common intraventricular tumors. Although most are benign, they often reach considerable sizes before clinical manifestation, challenging their surgical management. We aim to describe the clinical characteristics and the impact of current management on the survival of patients harboring intraventricular CPT. METHODS The National Cancer Database (NCDB) was queried to identify biopsy-proven intraventricular CPT patients (2004-2015). Demographic and patterns of care were described, the log-rank method was used to independently analyze survival according to age, WHO grade and extent of resection (EOR). Multivariate analysis was performed to investigate the impact of prognostic factors on overall survival (OS). RESULTS A total of 439 CPT patients with known WHO grade were included. WHO grade I tumors were more frequent in adults, while WHO grade III tumors were more common in pediatric population. Most CPTs were benign, with a median tumor size of 3-4 cm. Mean tumor size in pediatric population was greater than in adult population (4.39 cm vs. 2.7 cm; p < 0.01). Frequency was similar between males and females (51.7% vs. 48.3%; p > 0.0.5). Five- and ten-year OS among all patients was 87% and 84%, respectively. EOR was not associated with survival for any WHO grade. On multivariable analysis, only patient age (p = 0.022), WHO grade (p = 0.003) and medical comorbidity scores (p = 0.002) were independently associated with OS after diagnosis. CONCLUSION Patients with CPTs present at different stages of life, with sizable tumor burden and distinct WHO grade prevalence. Considering their favorable survival, efforts to improve tumor control should be meticulously weighed against the long-term risk associated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

Abstract
PURPOSE Choroid plexus tumors comprise of choroid plexus papilloma (CPP, WHO grade I), atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP, WHO grade II) and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC, WHO grade III). Molecular events driving the majority of choroid plexus tumors remain poorly understood. Recently, DNA methylation profiling has revealed different epigenetic subgroups. METHODS Comprehensive review of epigenetic profiles of choroid plexus tumors in the context of histopathological, genetic, and clinical features. DNA methylation profiling segregates choroid plexus tumors into three distinct epigenetic subgroups: supratentorial pediatric low-risk choroid plexus tumors (CPP and aCPP), infratentorial adult low-risk choroid plexus tumors (CPP and aCPP), and supratentorial pediatric high-risk choroid plexus tumors (CPP and aCPP and CPC). Epigenetic subgrouping provides additional prognostic information in comparison to histopathological grading. CONCLUSIONS Epigenetic profiling of choroid plexus tumors can be used for the identification of patients at risk of recurrence and is expected to play a role for treatment stratification and patient management in the context of future clinical trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Large vascular brain tumors pose an exceptional challenge in young children. Choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) is an example of a rare, often large and especially vascular neuroepithelial tumor that most commonly arises in children under 5 yr old. Although patients may be cured by total resection, this tumor poses significant surgical risks and challenges related to intraoperative hemostasis. OBJECTIVE To describe our experience using a transcollation system during brain tumor surgery in a child to achieve hemostasis and minimize blood loss while preserving normal brain tissue. METHODS A 3-yr-old girl presented following a fall and was found to have a giant CPP growing from the right lateral ventricle. Given the vascularity of the tumor and the low intravascular reserve in a small child, a transcollation device was used to reduce blood loss intraoperatively. RESULTS Gross total resection was achieved with approximately 300 mL of blood loss without complications. The patient did well postoperatively. Imaging performed at 3 mo after resection revealed return of normal brain architecture. CONCLUSION Transcollation devices appear to be an effective and safe addition to the armamentarium of neurosurgical hemostatic options in intracranial tumor resection in which there is a high risk of intraoperative hemorrhage.

Abstract
Choroid plexus tumours (CPTs) account for 2–5% of brain tumours in children. They can spread along the neuraxis and can recur after treatment. Little is known about the molecular mechanisms underlying their formation and only few high fidelity mouse models of p53-deficient malignant CPTs are available. We show here that c-MYC overexpression in the choroid plexus epithelium induces T-cell inflammation-dependent choroid plexus papillomas in a mouse model. We demonstrate that c-MYC is expressed in a substantial proportion of human choroid plexus tumours and that this subgroup of tumours is characterised by an inflammatory transcriptome and significant inflammatory infiltrates. In compound mutant mice, overexpression of c-MYC in an immunodeficient background led to a decreased incidence of CPP and reduced tumour bulk. Finally, reduced tumour size was also observed upon T-cell depletion in CPP-bearing mice. Our data raise the possibility that benign choroid plexus tumours expressing c-MYC could be amenable to medical therapy with anti-inflammatory drugs.

Abstract
Choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC) is a rare brain tumor that occurs most commonly in very young children and has a dismal prognosis despite intensive therapy. Improved outcomes for patients with CPC depend on a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the disease. Here we developed transgenic models of CPCs by activating the Myc oncogene and deleting the Trp53 tumor suppressor gene in murine neural stem cells or progenitors. Murine CPC resembled their human counterparts at a histologic level, and like the hypodiploid subset of human CPC, exhibited multiple whole-chromosome losses, particularly of chromosomes 8, 12, and 19. Analysis of murine and human CPC gene expression profiles and copy number changes revealed altered expression of genes involved in cell cycle, DNA damage response, and cilium function. High-throughput drug screening identified small molecule inhibitors that decreased the viability of CPC. These models will be valuable tools for understanding the biology of choroid plexus tumors and for testing novel approaches to therapy. SIGNIFICANCE: This study describes new mouse models of choroid plexus carcinoma and uses them to investigate the biology and therapeutic responsiveness of this highly malignant pediatric brain tumor.

Abstract
Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare, benign tumors that can arise in young children. Most pediatric patients present with signs of hydrocephalus and require immediate treatment. The natural history of choroid plexus tumors in children without hydrocephalus is poorly defined. In this report, the authors present the very rare case of a child without hydrocephalus but with two intraventricular choroid plexus tumors discovered shortly after birth. Initial imaging had been performed for seizures and showed agenesis of the corpus callosum and enhancing tumors in the third and left lateral ventricles. Sequential imaging demonstrated rapid growth of both tumors. The lateral tumor was removed when the child was 3 months of age. A histological examination of the specimen showed benign features with an elevated mitotic rate. Given the patient's age of under 3 years, the diagnosis was WHO grade I CPP. The third ventricle tumor grew rapidly. A second surgery was performed and this tumor was resected. Again, the pathological diagnosis was WHO grade I CPP. The authors present this rare case and discuss the current relevant literature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS We sought to describe pediatric "big data" publications since 2000, their statistical output, and clinical implications. METHODS We searched 4 major North American neurosurgical journals for articles utilizing non-neurosurgery-specific databases for clinical pediatric neurosurgery research. Articles were analyzed for descriptive and statistical information. We analyzed effect sizes (ESs), confidence intervals (CIs), and p values for clinical relevance. A bibliometric analysis was performed using several key citation metrics. RESULTS We identified 74 articles, which constituted 1.7% of all pediatric articles (n = 4,436) published, with an exponential increase after 2013 (53/74, 72%). The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) databases were most frequently utilized (n = 33); hydrocephalus (n = 19) was the most common study topic. The statistical output (n = 49 studies with 464 ESs, 456 CIs, and 389 p values) demonstrated that the majority of the ESs (253/464, 55%) were categorized as small; half or more of the CI spread (CIS) values and p values were high (274/456, 60%) and very strong (195/389, 50%), respectively. Associations with a combination of medium-to-large ESs (i.e., magnitude of difference), medium-to-high CISs (i.e., precision), and strong-to-very strong p values comprised only 20% (75/381) of the reported ESs. The total number of citations for the 74 articles was 1,115 (range per article, 0-129), with the median number of citations per article being 8.5. Four studies had > 50 citations, and 2 of them had > 100 citations. The calculated h-index was 16, h-core citations were 718, the e-index was 21.5, and the Google i10-index was 34. CONCLUSIONS There has been a dramatic increase in the use of "big data" in the pediatric neurosurgical literature. Reported associations that may, as a group, be of greatest interest to practitioners represented only 20% of the total output from these publications. Citations were weighted towards a few highly cited publications.

Abstract
Background: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare neoplasms accounting for only 0.3–0.6% of all brain tumors in adults and 2–5% in children. The World Health Organization (WHO) classification describes three histological grades: grade I is choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), grade II is atypical papilloma, and grade III is the malignant form of carcinoma. In adults, CPTs rarely have a supratentorial localization. Case Description: Here we report a very rare case of an intraparenchymal parietal CPP with a rapid histological transition from grade I to grade III WHO in a 67-year-old man, in <7 months. Conclusion: Because of the rarity of these oncotypes, descriptions of each new case are useful, mostly to consider this diagnostic entity in extraventricular brain tumors of adults, despite an unusual location.

Abstract
Choroid plexus (CP) carcinoma is a rare pediatric brain neoplasm. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of genome-wide methylation and gene expression profiling to provide additional layers of information to improve tumor risk-stratification. There is a lack of data regarding the best therapy, and approaches have been heterogeneous. Despite multidisciplinary treatment approaches, the outcome remains guarded and treatments have been based on case series and expert opinions. In this study, we discuss the recent wealth of data regarding CP carcinoma molecular biology and current management. We also briefly highlight the remaining barriers to formulate the best treatment strategies, and future therapeutic potentials.

Abstract
Choroid plexus tumors (CPT) are intraventricular neoplasms accounting for 10% of all primary central nervous system tumors in dogs. They are frequently classified according to the human WHO classification into choroid plexus papilloma (CPP, grade I), atypical CPP (aCPP, grade II), and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC, grade III). Histological features observed in canine CPT such as increased vascular density (IVD) and glomeruloid microvascular proliferation (GMVP) are not part of the WHO classification. This multi-centric study aimed to investigate tumor-associated vascular hyperplasia in dogs by determining the prevalence of GMVP and IVD in 52 canine CPT and their association with tumor grade. In addition, the expression of angiogenic factors was assessed by immunohistochemistry in 25 tumors to investigate the pathogenesis of tumor-associated vascular hyperplasia. Based on the classical histological hallmarks, this study of 52 CPT identified 22 (42%) CPP (grade I) and 30 of (58%) CPC (grade III). GMVP was more prevalent in CPC (13/30; 43%) than CPP (1/22; 4%), whereas IVD occurred to a similar extent in CPP and CPC. Desmoplasia was more common in CPC (19/30; 63%) than CPP (2/22; 9%), and similarly, the proliferative index (PI) of neoplastic epithelium was significantly higher in CPC (5.14%) than CPP (0.94%). The majority of CPT expressed platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), PDGFRα, PDGFRβ, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) irrespective of tumor grade or tumor-associated vascular hyperplasia. These results suggest that tumor-associated GMVP, desmoplasia, and PI may serve as histological indicators of malignancy in CPT.

Abstract
Background: Choroid plexus tumors (CPT) in the pediatric population are usually discovered in symptomatic patients often with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, with hydrocephalus as the most common presentation, along with seizures, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or focal neurological deficit. Most CPTs are found to be benign choroid plexus papillomas (CPP), whereas a small number are intermediate and malignant choroid plexus carcinomas (CPC). Total surgical resection is the established definitive treatment for symptomatic CPP. Case Description: We describe a young female who was found to have an incidental CPT during workup for recent head trauma without neurological deficits or hydrocephalus. She underwent a surgical operation to remove the tumor successful, with 1-year follow-up showing no recurrence and normal developmental milestones. Conclusion: This rare presentation of an asymptomatic CPT brings attention to the fact that there is no clear evidence for how or when to treat such patients. Because discovery of a CPT in an asymptomatic patient is uncommon, the treatment plan appears to be developed on a case-by-case basis. We hope to generate discussion for establishing an agreed upon treatment approach for CPTs in asymptomatic patients.
