Abstract
Psychological distance (PD) can be a barrier to how students perceive climate change impacts and severity. Localizing climate change using place-based approaches is one way instructors can structure their curricula to help combat students' PD, especially from a spatial and social viewpoint. We created a novel classroom intervention that incorporated elements of place-based education and the Teaching for Transformative Experiences in Science model that was designed to lower undergraduate biology students' spatial and social distance of climate change. Our research questions sought to determine whether students' PD changed following our intervention and whether variables beyond our intervention might have contributed to changes we identified. To measure the efficacy of our intervention, we administered a survey that contained several instruments to measure students' recognition and psychological distance of climate change pre- and post-intervention. We found that students' psychological distance to climate change decreased after participating in our classroom intervention. Additionally, course level was the only outside variable we identified as a predictor of students' post-activity scores. Participation in our activity lowered our students' spatial and social psychological distance, which could have impacts beyond the classroom as these students become the next generation of scientists and voters.

Abstract
One of the key reasons for the poor performance of natural enemies of honeydew-producing insect pests is mutualism between ants and some aphid species. The findings demonstrated that red wood ant, Formica rufa Linnaeus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) had a deleterious impact on different biological parameters of the lady beetle, Hippodamia variegata Goeze (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). H. variegata laid far fewer eggs in ant-tended aphid colonies, laying nearly 2.5 times more eggs in ant absence. Ants antennated and bit the lady beetle eggs, resulting in significantly low egg hatching of 66 per cent over 85 per cent in ant absent treatments. The presence of ants significantly reduced the development of all larval instars. The highest reduction was found in the fourth larval instar (31.33% reduction), and the lowest in the first larval instar (20% reduction). Later larval instars were more aggressively attacked by ants than earlier instars. The first and second larval instars stopped their feeding and movement in response to ant aggression. The third and fourth larval instars modified their mobility, resulting in increased ant aggression towards them. Adult lady beetles were shown to be more vulnerable to ant attacks than larvae. However, H. variegata adults demonstrated counterattacks in the form of diverse defensive reaction behaviours in response to F. rufa aggression.

Abstract
Currently, in Brazil, all researchers involved in animal experimentation must undergo training in laboratory animal science to stay updated on biology, methodology, ethics, and legal considerations related to the use of animals. The training program presented in this study not only aims to fulfill a legal obligation but also intends to train students and professionals to effectively care for their biomodels. It seeks to help them understand the importance of this care, both for the welfare of the animals and for the results of their projects. In total, 58 participants were present at the event (pre-event and full-time course). These participants consisted students and professionals from 11 institutions and 5 different countries. These numbers demonstrate the successful attainment of the desired capillarity in the scientific community and the posterior dissemination of knowledge. Through this course, it was possible to train the participants and raise their awareness about the importance of applying scientific knowledge in their daily practices to maintain the animals, ensuring the welfare of the models and refining the research. Finally, the program presented in this study, as well as the strategies adopted, can serve as a model for other institutions aiming to achieve similar results.

Abstract
Background and Objective Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a subset of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with highly malignant, aggressive, and heterogeneous features. Patients with this disease account for approximately 0.1-0.4% of lung cancer cases. The absence of comprehensive summaries on the basic biology and clinical treatments for PSC means there is limited systematic awareness and understanding of this rare disease. This paper provides an overview of the biological characteristics of PSC and systematically summarizes various treatment strategies available for patients with this disease. Methods For this narrative review, we have searched literature related to the basic biology and clinical treatment approaches of PSC by searching the PubMed database for articles published from July 16, 1990 to August 29, 2023. The following keywords were used: "pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma", "genetic mutations", "immune microenvironment", "hypoxia", "angiogenesis", "overall survival", "surgery", "radiotherapy", "chemotherapy", and "immune checkpoint inhibitors". Key Content and Findings Classical PSC comprises epithelial and sarcomatoid components, with most studies suggesting a common origin. PSC exhibits a higher tumor mutational burden (TMB) and mutation frequency than other types of NSCLC. The tumor microenvironment (TME) of PSC is characterized by hypoxia, hypermetabolism, elevated programmed cell death protein 1/programmed cell death-ligand 1 expression, and high immune cell infiltration. Treatment strategies for advanced PSC are mainly based on traditional NSCLC treatments, but PSC exhibits resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The advancement of genome sequencing has introduced targeted therapies as an option for mutation-positive PSC cases. Moreover, due to the characteristics of the immune microenvironment of PSC, many patients positively respond to immunotherapy, demonstrating its potential for the management of PSC. Conclusions Although several studies have examined and assessed the TME of PSC, these are limited in quantity and quality, presenting challenges for research into the clinical treatment strategies for PSC. With the emergence of new technologies and the advancement of clinical research, for example, savolitinib's clinical study for MET exon 14 skipping mutations positive PSC patients have shown promising outcomes, more in-depth studies on PSC are eagerly anticipated.

Abstract
Due to ongoing changes and a decline in biodiversity, science today should rely on long-term species-based ecological studies. We have conducted a long-term ecological dynamics study on the water beetle family Scirtidae, which, although it is very abundant in benthic communities, is still poorly studied. The main objective of this study was to investigate the population aspects (composition, diversity, sex ratio) and ecological aspects (emergence patterns, seasonal dynamics and preferences for environmental factors) of the family Scirtidae over 15 years in Plitvice Lakes NP, Croatia. The study was conducted at three sites and in five different substrate types. A total of three taxa with different distributions were recorded in the study area: Hydrocyphon novaki and H. deflexicollis on the tufa barriers and the Elodes sp. in the spring area. The sex ratio was in favour of males in spring and early summer, while it shifted in favour of females towards the end of autumn. The abundance and emergence of the family were primarily determined by the environmental parameters which showed the greatest fluctuations over a period of 15 years: water temperature, water discharge and oxygen saturation. Our results clearly show that Scirtidae can be used as indicators of stream zonation and habitat quality. Based on the methodology and the results of this study, we conclude that Scirtidae should be used in future monitoring and protection measures in karst freshwater habitats in southeastern Europe.

Abstract
Chagas disease is one of the most significant vector-borne diseases in Mexico. The presence of "sylvatic" triatomine vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas) inside human dwellings necessitates estimating their vectorial capacity. To estimate this capacity in Triatoma protracta nahuatlae (Ryckman), Triatoma sinaloensis (Ryckman), and their laboratory hybrids, 6 biological parameters were examined. Triatoma sinaloensis exhibited the shortest development time (155 days), with a median of 12 blood meals. Mortality rates varied from 35% to 45% in the 3 studied cohorts. All 3 cohorts were aggressive, initiating feeding within 0.5-1 min, and had similar feeding periods ranging from 10 to 18 min. A majority (75.3-97.9%) of the hybrids defecated when feeding, immediately after feeding, or in less than 1 min post-feeding. In contrast, only 7-42% of nymphs of T. sinaloensis defecated during the same period. Our results regarding the 6 parameters studied confirm the potential role of T. p. nahuatlae as an efficient vector of T. cruzi. Triatoma sinaloensis, on the other hand, exhibited limited vectorial capacity primarily due to its poor defecation behavior. Continued surveillance of these "sylvatic" triatomine populations is necessary to prevent an epidemiological problem.

Abstract
PURPOSE Viable cartilage allograft (VCA) is a cartilage tissue matrix that contains cryopreserved viable allogeneic cartilage fibres. This study aimed to assess safety and benefits in treating focal knee cartilage defects with VCA. We hypothesized that VCA is a safe single-stage procedure in isolated chondral defects. METHOD In vitro analysis, in vivo studies and a prospective case series were performed. VCA was evaluated in a goat cartilage repair model. Symptomatic International Cartilage Repair Society grade 3/4A lesions of the femoral condyle or patella were implanted with VCA. International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome (KOOS) subscales, Lysholm, Short Form-12, Visual Analog Scale and pain frequency levels were assessed. Radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed at regular intervals postoperatively. Data were analysed by statisticians to determine the power and significance of the results. RESULTS The goat study confirmed that VCA is effective for cartilage repair. Twenty patients were implanted; the mean age was 28.1 (16-56), the mean body mass index (BMI) was 27.9 ± 5.6 and the mean follow-up was 24.1 months (range = 12.0-36.0 months). Lesions were in either the femoral condyle (7) or patella (13). Lesion sizes ranged from 1.5 to 6.0 cm2 (mean = 4.58 cm2 ). Outcome scores improved from preoperative baseline (POB): IKDC (78.2), Lysholm (89.0), KOOS: Pain (95.8), Symptoms (86.3), ADL (87.8), Sports (85.0) and QOL (75.0). MRI imaging demonstrated excellent osteochondral allograft assimilation. Second-look arthroscopy (two patients) demonstrated complete fill and incorporation (Brittberg scores 11/12). Functional scores were maintained at 24 (M): IKDC (86.24 ± 17.2), Lysholm (87.23 ± 15.0), KOOS: Pain (91.72 ± 17.3), Symptoms (84.92 ± 16.1), ADLs (93.80 ± 16.1), Sports (84.45 ± 27.7), QOL (81.30 ± 20.8). CONCLUSION VCA is an off-the-shelf, single-stage, conformable allogeneic graft that treats chondral defects with no additional fixation. Preclinical and short-term prospective clinical studies show that VCA can safely treat chondral defects with potential advantages to existing options. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level IV study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Mucin disfunction is a critical event in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Although hyper mucinous conditions have a still debated implication in the clinical evolution of this disorder, hyper mucinous villous proliferations were found to have a preneoplastic biologic potential. We studied morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics of these lesions in ileocolonic resections for IBD to add evidence about the evolutive potential of these lesions in samples with well oriented wall structures. METHODS Morphologic characteristics of bowel samples from 20 patients resected for IBD and with raised lesions at gross examination were studied and sections from cases with hyper mucinous lesions were stained with the following antibodies: Ki 67, p21, and p27, which were employed to evaluate the characteristics of the proliferative and differentiative activity of the epithelial structures; mismatch repair proteins and p53 have been studied as proteins implicated in carcinogenesis in IBD-affected mucosa; mucins subtypes in hyper mucinous structures were evaluated with MUC-2 and MUC-6. The results in 11 cases of saplings were that they harbored hyper mucinous proliferations. The occurrence of hyper mucinous structures was not related to dysplastic lesions, pseudo pyloric metaplasia, subtype of disease, or activity. In only one of our cases, mild cytologic atypia in the proliferative compartment was detected. Proliferation markers (Ki 67, p53) were expressed in the proliferative compartments of mucosal crypts and antiproliferative proteins p21 and p27 were expressed in differentiated epithelium. MMR proteins expression was limited to the proliferative compartment of the hyper mucinous projections. Mucin subtypes distribution was regular in the epithelium of hyper mucinous proliferations. CONCLUSIONS The present monocentric retrospective study was conducted on surgical samplings with well oriented crypts. Collected data show that hyper mucinous features are frequent occurrences in raised lesions in IBD patients. In hyper mucinous proliferations of the selected cases, the status of the proliferative cycle, the expression of the proteins most frequently involved in carcinogenetic pathways of mucosa affected by IBD, and the mucins subtypes expression have no evident anomalies. Findings are not consistent with the increased risk of neoplastic evolution observed in other studies; rather, they suggest a hyperplastic nature. However, the capacity of hyper mucinous raised lesions for neoplastic evolution should be ruled out with more extensive prospective studies to identify functional defects that could explain the hypothesized neoplastic potential.

Abstract
This paper celebrates the life and legacy of psychiatrist and Jungian author Anthony Stevens, who passed away at age 90 on July 13, 2023. It outlines Stevens's origins as a research fellow in Greece, where his work on infant attachment led to a lifelong dedication to establishing the biological and evolutionary foundation of psychiatry. It details his instrumental role in the debate about the theory of archetypes and describes the current state of the literature including the responses and reactions to Stevens's biological innatist position. The paper concludes with a career retrospective in which Stevens's major works are introduced and briefly described.

Abstract
Aulacophora lewisii Baly (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is an important pest of Luffa acutangula (L.) Roxb. (Cucurbitaceae) in India. Larvae of A. lewisii feed on the roots, while adults consume leaves of L. acutangula. In the current study, effects of three L. acutangula cultivars (Abhiskar, Debsundari, and Jaipur Long) on the life table parameters by age-stage, two-sex approach, and key digestive enzymatic activities (amylolytic, proteolytic, and lipolytic) of the larvae and adults of A. lewisii were determined. Further, nutrients (total carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, amino acids, and nitrogen content) and antinutrients (total phenols, flavonols, and tannins) present in the roots and leaves of three cultivars were estimated. The development time (egg to adult emergence) was fastest and slowest on Jaipur Long (31.80 days) and Abhiskar (40.91 days), respectively. Fecundity was highest and lowest on Jaipur Long (279.91 eggs) and Abhiskar (137.18 eggs), respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) was lowest on Abhiskar (0.0511 day-1) and highest on Jaipur Long (0.0872 day-1). The net reproductive rate (R0) was lowest on Abhiskar (23.32 offspring female-1). The mean generation time (T) was shortest on Jaipur Long (52.59 days) and longest on Abhiskar (61.58 days). The amylolytic, proteolytic, and lipolytic activities of larvae and adults of A. lewisii were highest and lowest on Jaipur Long and Abhiskar, respectively. The lower level of nutrients and higher level of antinutrients influenced higher larval development time and lower fecundity of A. lewisii on Abhiskar than other cultivars. Our results suggest that Abhiskar cultivar could be promoted for cultivation.

Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing rapidly and continually evolving in various fields. Recently, the release of ChatGPT has sparked significant public interest. In this study, we revisit the '100 Important Questions Facing Plant Science' by leveraging ChatGPT as a valuable tool for generating thought-provoking questions relevant to plant science. These questions primarily revolve around the utilization of plants in product development, understanding plant mechanisms, plant-environment interactions, and enhancing plant traits, with an emphasis on sustainable product development. While ChatGPT may not capture certain crucial aspects highlighted by scientists, it offers valuable insights into the questions generated by experts. Our analysis demonstrates that ChatGPT can be cautiously employed as a supportive tool to facilitate, streamline, and expedite specific tasks in plant science.

Abstract
The Foundation of Osteopathic Research and Clinical Endorsement (FORCE) is an organization that includes various figures involved in clinical and non-profit research and does not depend on any private or government body. To better understand how the human body behaves, we need to observe cellular behavior. Considering the human body as layers, districts, and regions, or just as a machine, is severely limiting to understanding the systemic mechanisms that are implemented to maintain bodily health. For some years, FORCE has contributed several articles to the literature to support the view of a human body as a unit, a fascial continuum (solid and fluid fascia) capable of interacting consciously, and not as a passive mirror, with respect to external stresses. The article reviews the tensegrity theory applied to the cell, trying to bring to light that the mechanistic vision on which this theory is based does not meet biological reality. We review some concepts related to biology, the science that studies life, and quantum physics, the science that studies the invisible physical phenomena that underlie life. Understanding that the cells and tissues are aware of the therapeutic approaches they receive could better guide the decisions of the osteopathic clinician.

Abstract
Uromodulin is a kidney-specific glycoprotein which is exclusively produced by the epithelial cells lining the thick ascending limb and early distal convoluted tubule. It is currently recognized as a multifaceted player in kidney physiology and disease, with discrete roles for intracellular, urinary, interstitial, and serum uromodulin. Among them, uromodulin modulates renal sodium handling through the regulation of tubular sodium transporters that reabsorb sodium and are targeted by diuretics, such as the loop diuretic-sensitive Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter type 2 (NKCC2) and the thiazide-sensitive Na+/Cl- cotransporter (NCC). Given these roles, the contribution of uromodulin to sodium-sensitive hypertension has been proposed. However, recent studies in humans suggest a more complex interaction between dietary sodium intake, uromodulin, and blood pressure. This review presents an updated overview of the uromodulin's biology and its various roles and focuses on the interaction between uromodulin and sodium-sensitive hypertension.

Abstract
Here, high-throughput tomography (HiTT), a fast and versatile phase-contrast imaging platform for life-science samples on the EMBL beamline P14 at DESY in Hamburg, Germany, is presented. A high-photon-flux undulator beamline is used to perform tomographic phase-contrast acquisition in about two minutes which is linked to an automated data processing pipeline that delivers a 3D reconstructed data set less than a minute and a half after the completion of the X-ray scan. Combining this workflow with a sophisticated robotic sample changer enables the streamlined collection and reconstruction of X-ray imaging data from potentially hundreds of samples during a beam-time shift. HiTT permits optimal data collection for many different samples and makes possible the imaging of large sample cohorts thus allowing population studies to be attempted. The successful application of HiTT on various soft tissue samples in both liquid (hydrated and also dehydrated) and paraffin-embedded preparations is demonstrated. Furthermore, the feasibility of HiTT to be used as a targeting tool for volume electron microscopy, as well as using HiTT to study plant morphology, is demonstrated. It is also shown how the high-throughput nature of the work has allowed large numbers of `identical' samples to be imaged to enable statistically relevant sample volumes to be studied.

Abstract
Culture is typically studied as socialized and learned. Yet lay intuitions may hold that culture is associated with biology via perceptions of race, presenting a problem for those who study culture: There may be a mismatch between how psychologists study culture and how their research is interpreted by lay audiences. This article is a call to researchers to recognize this mismatch as a problem and to critically evaluate the way we study culture. We first describe evidence that laypeople tend to associate culture with notions of folk biology. Next, we propose three suggestions for researchers: explicitly address whether biological processes are, or are not, relevant for studying culture in their work; consider using multiple methods because different methods for studying culture may come with assumptions about culture as more tied to socialization or biology; and represent all people as cultural by studying multiple forms of culture and by contextualizing all psychological research. Last, we provide an example for how researchers can implement these suggestions to encourage more accurate interpretations of findings.

Abstract
Monkeypox virus (MPXV), a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus, shares its genus with Variola virus (VARV), the causative agent of smallpox, and Vaccinia virus (VACV), used for smallpox vaccination. While smallpox has been eradicated, MPXV and related poxviruses continue to pose a global health threat. Monkeypox (Mpox), similar in clinical presentation to smallpox but milder, is endemic in Central and West Africa. Sporadic outbreaks emphasize the potential for wider dissemination. Understanding their biology, transmission, immune evasion, and clinical features informs disease control strategies. The intersection of medical innovation and biotechnology with poxviruses underscores their importance in both disease and scientific advancement. Further research is essential to enhance prevention, management, and therapeutic interventions for these viruses.

Abstract
Cellular communication relies on signaling circuits whose statuses are mainly modulated by soluble biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and metabolites as well as extracellular vesicles (EVs). Therefore, the active secretion of such biomolecules is critical for both cell homeostasis and proper pathophysiological responses in a timely fashion. In this context, proteins are among the main modulators of such biological responses. Hence, profiling cell line secretomes may be an opportunity for the identification of "signatures" of specific cell types (i.e., stromal or metastatic cells) with important prognostic/therapeutic value. This review will focus on the biological implications of cell secretomes in the context of cancer, as well as their functional roles in shaping the tumoral microenvironment (TME) and communication status of participating cells.

Abstract
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) shows a high degree of clinical and biological heterogeneity. Primary testicular lymphoma (PTL) is an extranodal variant of DLBCL associated with a higher risk of recurrence, including contralateral testicles and central nervous system sanctuary sites. Several molecular aberrations, including somatic mutation of MYD88, CD79B, and upregulation of NF-kB, PDL-1, and PDL-2, are thought to contribute to the pathogenesis and poor prognosis of PTL. However, additional biomarkers are needed that may improve the prognosis and help understand the PTL biology and lead to new therapeutic targets. RNA from diagnostic tissue biopsies of the PTL-ABC subtype and matched nodal DLBCL-ABC subtype patients was evaluated by mRNA and miRNA expression. Screening of 730 essential oncogenic genes was performed, and their epigenetic connections were examined using the nCounter PAN-cancer pathway, and Human miRNA assays with the nCounter System (NanoString Technologies). PTL and nodal DLBCL patients were comparable in age, gender, and putative cell of origin (p > 0.05). Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) expression in PTL exceeded that in nodal DLBCL (>6-fold; p = 0.01, FDR <0.01) and WT1 associated pathway genes THBS4, PTPN5, PLA2G2A, and IFNA17 were upregulated in PTL (>2.0-fold, p < 0.01, FDR <0.01). Additionally, miRNAs targeting WT1 (hsa15a-5p, hsa-miR-16-5p, has-miR-361-5p, has-miR-27b-3p, has-miR-199a-5p, has-miR-199b-5p, has-miR-132-3p, and hsa-miR-128-3p) showed higher expression in PTL compared to nodal DLBCL (≥2.0-fold; FDR 0.01). Lower expression of BMP7, LAMB3, GAS1, MMP7, and LAMC2 (>2.0-fold, p < 0.01) was observed in PTL compared to nodal DLBCL. This research revealed higher WT1 expression in PTL relative to nodal DLBCL, suggesting that a specific miRNA subset may target WT1 expression and impact the PI3k/Akt pathway in PTL. Further investigation is needed to explore WT1's biological role in PTL and its potential as a therapeutic target.

Abstract
AIMS Aortic stenosis is characterized by fibrosis and calcification of the valve, with a higher proportion of fibrosis observed in women. Stenotic bicuspid aortic valves progress more rapidly than tricuspid valves, which may also influence the relative composition of the valve. We aimed to investigate the influence of cusp morphology on quantitative aortic valve composition quantified from contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography in severe aortic stenosis. METHODS AND RESULTS Patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation with bicuspid and tricuspid valves were propensity matched 1:1 by age, sex, and comorbidities. Computed tomography angiograms were analysed using semi-automated software to quantify the fibrotic and calcific scores (volume/valve annular area) and the fibro-calcific ratio (fibrotic score/calcific score). The study population (n = 140) was elderly (76 ± 10 years, 62% male) and had a peak aortic jet velocity of 4.1 ± 0.7 m/s. Compared with those with tricuspid valves (n = 70), patients with bicuspid valves (n = 70) had higher fibrotic scores [204 (interquartile range 118-267) vs. 144 (99-208) mm3/cm2, P = 0.006] with similar calcific scores (P = 0.614). Women had greater fibrotic scores than men in bicuspid [224 (181-307) vs. 169 (109-247) mm3/cm2, P = 0.042] but not tricuspid valves (P = 0.232). Men had greater calcific scores than women in both bicuspid [203 (124-355) vs. 130 (70-182) mm3/cm2, P = 0.008] and tricuspid [177 (136-249) vs. 100 (62-150) mm3/cm2, P = 0.004] valves. Among both valve types, women had a greater fibro-calcific ratio compared with men [tricuspid 1.86 (0.94-2.56) vs. 0.86 (0.54-1.24), P = 0.001 and bicuspid 1.78 (1.21-2.90) vs. 0.74 (0.44-1.53), P = 0.001]. CONCLUSIONS In severe aortic stenosis, bicuspid valves have proportionately more fibrosis than tricuspid valves, especially in women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological cancer in women globally. It is linked to increasing obesity rates and longer life spans. The molecular mechanisms leading to EC are unclear; however, women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have a 3- to 5-fold increased EC risk. According to a pilot study conducted in the United Kingdom, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) gene and protein were raised in the endometrium and blood of women with EC and PCOS, compared with those without PCOS (controls). Therefore, raised serum IGF-1 levels may contribute to an increased EC risk in women with PCOS, but it is necessary to test this hypothesis since not all studies have demonstrated this association. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the role of IGF-1 in mediating EC risk in PCOS. This will be achieved by evaluating the proliferative effects of PCOS serum, IGF-1, and IGF-1 antagonist on human endometrial cancer 1-A and 1-B cell lines, with a comparison to controls (using serum from women without PCOS and cell culture media). The study will also identify differentially expressed genes and pathways activated by various treatments. METHODS We intend to recruit 20 women with PCOS and 20 women without PCOS for this cross-sectional study. All experiments will be carried out 4 times to ensure consistency. We will perform transcriptomic and phosphoproteomic profiling to identify differentially expressed genes and phosphoproteins between different treatments using RNA sequencing and phosphoproteomics. We will also perform bioinformatics pathway analysis to identify whether any unique collection of genes or phosphoproteins explains increased EC risk in PCOS. The primary outcome measure will be the cell proliferation (growth) difference measured by cell index values. Our protocol stands out due to its unique approach; no previous study has used this approach to investigate the oncogenic effect of serum from women with PCOS. Additionally, no previous study has considered the differential mutations of genes related to the insulin signaling pathway across various types of human EC cell lines and the potential impact of these variations on their experimental findings. RESULTS Participants are currently being recruited. It is expected that preliminary findings suitable for analysis and publication will be available by the summer of 2024. CONCLUSIONS Although we currently do not have any results to report, sharing our protocol at this stage will aid in research collaboration, provide an opportunity for early feedback, and help reduce duplication of effort by other research groups. The findings of our study will have broader implications. A deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the regulation of the IGF system in PCOS and EC will improve our ability to develop effective treatment modalities for EC and will be a vital step toward reducing EC in women globally. Abstract
Although uncommon, Epstein-Barr virus-related neurological disorders represent the seventh most frequent cause of infectious encephalitis in adults. The limited number of publications on EBV encephalitis mainly document isolated clinical cases. This study aimed to summarize published data on EBV encephalitis. A systematic literature search identified 97 EBV encephalitis cases. In the selected cases, EBV-related neurological disorders manifested as lymphocytic pleocytosis in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with moderate hyperproteinorachia. The EBV PCR test was positive in 87% of the CSF samples, with wide-ranging viral loads. When encephalitis occurred in the context of past EBV infections, all of the EBV PCR tests on CSF samples were positive. On the contrary, negative EBV PCR tests on CSF samples occurred only in the context of primary infections. EBV PCR was rarely carried out on blood samples, contributing minimally to the diagnosis. For the treatment of EBV encephalitis, Aciclovir was used alone in 29% of cases, and in association with other drugs in 40% of cases. Ganciclovir (30%), corticoids (52%), and immunoglobulins (15%) were mainly used in association with other drugs. Cerebral imaging was abnormal in 69% of cases, mostly in the cerebellum and basal ganglia. This work highlights that the EBV PCR test on CSF samples is currently the main laboratory diagnostic test to diagnose EBV encephalitis. This diagnostic test is useful; however, it is imperfect. New complementary diagnostic tools, approved treatments, and standardized practices could improve patient management.

Abstract
The adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) were developed to accelerate evidence-based chemical risk assessment by leveraging data from new approach methodologies. Thanks to their stressor-agnostic approach, AOPs were seen as instrumental in other fields. Here, we present AOPs that report non-chemical stressors along with the challenges encountered for their development. Challenges regarding AOPs linked to nanomaterials include non-specific molecular initiating events, limited understanding of nanomaterial biodistribution, and needs for adaptations of the in silico modeling and testing systems. Development of AOPs for radiation face challenges in how to incorporate ionizing events type, dose rate, energy deposition, and how to account for targeting multiple macromolecules. AOPs for COVID-19 required the inclusion of SARS-CoV-2-specific replicative steps to capture the essential events driving the disease. Developing AOPs to evaluate efficacy and toxicity of cell therapies necessitates addressing the cellular nature and the therapeutic function of the stressor. Finally, addressing toxicity of emerging biological stressors like microbial pesticides can learn from COVID-19 AOPs. We further discuss that the adaptations needed to expand AOP applicability beyond chemicals are mainly at the molecular and cellular levels while downstream key events at tissue or organ level, such as inflammation, are shared by many AOPs initiated by various stressors. In conclusion, although it is challenging to integrate non-chemical stressors within AOPs, this expands opportunities to account for real-world scenarios, to identify vulnerable individuals, and to bridge knowledge on mechanisms of adversity.

Abstract
The red palm weevil (RPW) poses a significant threat to date palm ecosystems, highlighting the necessity of sustainable pest management strategies that carefully consider the delicate ecological balance within these environments. This comprehensive review delves into innovative approaches to sustainable pest management, specifically focusing on date palm, and seeks to unravel the intricate ecological dynamics underlying RPW infestations. We thoroughly analyze biocontrol methods, eco-friendly chemical interventions, and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies, aiming to minimize the ecological impact while effectively addressing RPW infestations. By emphasizing the interplay of both living organisms (biotic) and environmental factors (abiotic) in shaping RPW dynamics, we advocate for a holistic and sustainable management approach that ensures the long-term resilience of date palm ecosystems. This review aims to contribute to an ecologically sound framework for pest management, promoting the sustainability and vitality of date palm ecosystems amidst the challenges posed by the RPW.

Abstract
Abstract This scholarly article delves into the multifaceted domains of human cloning, encompassing its biological underpinnings, ethical dimensions, and broader societal implications. The exposition commences with a succinct historical and contextual overview of human cloning, segueing into an in-depth exploration of its biological intri-cacies. Central to this biological scrutiny is a comprehensive analysis of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and its assorted iterations. The accomplishments and discoveries in cloning technology, such as successful animal cloning operations and advances in the efficiency and viability of cloned embryos, are reviewed. Future improvements, such as reprogramming procedures and gene editing technology, are also discussed. The discourse extends to ethical quandaries intrinsic to human cloning, entailing an extensive contemplation of values such as human dignity, autonomy, and safety. Furthermore, the ramifications of human cloning on a societal plane are subjected to scrutiny, with a dedicated emphasis on ramifications encompassing personal identity, kinship connections, and the fundamental notion of maternity. Culminating the analysis is a reiteration of the imperative to develop and govern human cloning technology judiciously and conscientiously. Finally, it discusses several ethical and practical issues, such as safety concerns, the possibility of exploitation, and the erosion of human dignity, and emphasizes the significance of carefully considering these issues.

Abstract
The yellow-spined bamboo locust (YSBL), Ceracris kiangsu Tsai, has historically had a significant impact on different bamboo varieties in East Asia and Southeast Asia. Since 2014, there have been many outbreaks of YSBL populations in Laos, and YSBLs subsequently invaded Southwest China in 2020 and 2023. However, there was limited information about the damage to staple crops. Life table parameters and fitness parameters were assessed using wheat, rice, waxy maize, and sweet maize under three different temperatures (25 °C, 30 °C, and 35 °C) in the laboratory. The results indicated that the YSBLs feeding on wheat seedlings displayed a significantly higher survival rate, a shorter developmental time, and a higher adult emergence rate compared to YSBLs feeding on the other host species at 30 °C. The developmental durations of 1st and 3rd instar YSBLs on wheat (1st: 8.21 ± 0.35 d; 3rd: 6.32 ± 0.34 d) and rice (1st: 7.19 ± 0.23 d; 3rd: 9.00 ± 0.66 d) were significantly shorter than those of 1st and 3rd instar YSBLs on waxy maize (1st: 13.62 ± 1.22 d; 3rd: 13.67 ± 6.33 d) and sweet maize (1st: 16.00 ± 1.79 d; 3rd: 18.00 ± 3.49 d) at 30 °C. The body lengths of male and female YSBLs on wheat (male: 29.52 ± 0.40 mm, female: 34.97 ± 0.45 mm) and rice (male: 28.85 ± 0.68 mm, female: 34.66 ± 0.35 mm) were significantly longer than those observed when they were fed on sweet maize (male: 25.64 ± 1.60 mm, female: 21.93 ± 6.89 mm). There were only male adults obtained on waxy maize. The phenotypic characteristics of the YSBLs feeding on rice seedlings were very close to those of the YSBLs feeding on wheat seedlings. A relatively slower decline was observed in the survival rates of YSBL nymphs on wheat and rice compared to those on waxy maize and sweet maize at 25 °C, 30 °C, and 35 °C. In short, this study implied that YSBLs prefer wheat and rice. This study is the first report of direct damage caused by the YSBL to wheat in the laboratory, and its results could be useful in improving our understanding of the host preference of the YSBL and providing strategies for the management of this pest in field crops.

Abstract
Neoscytalidium dimidiatum, a plant- and human-associated fungus, has emerged as a substantial global ecological and agricultural threat aggravated by global warming. It inflicts various diseases, including canker, blight, dieback, leaf spot, root rot, and fruit rot, across a wide spectrum of fruit trees, field crops, shrubs, and arboreal species, with a host range spanning 46 plant families, 84 genera, and 126 species, primarily affecting eudicot angiosperms. Six genera are asymptomatic hosts. Neoscytalidium dimidiatum exhibits worldwide distribution, with the highest prevalence observed in Asia and North America, notably in Iran, Turkey, and California. Rising disease prevalence and severity, aggravated by climate change, particularly impact tropical arid places across 37 countries spanning all 7 continents. This comprehensive review encapsulates recent advancements in the understanding of N. dimidiatum, encompassing alterations in its taxonomic classification, host range, symptoms, geographic distribution, epidemiology, virulence, and strategies for effective management. This study also concentrates on comprehending the taxonomic relationships and intraspecific variations within N. dimidiatum, with a particular emphasis on N. oculus and N. hylocereum, proposing to consider these two species as synonymous with N. dimidiatum. Furthermore, this review identifies prospective research directions aimed at augmenting our fundamental understanding of host-N. dimidiatum interaction.

Abstract
The early postnatal period represents a critical window for the maturation and development of orthopedic tissues, including those within the knee joint. To understand how mechanical loading impacts the maturational trajectory of the meniscus and other tissues of the hindlimb, perturbation of postnatal weight bearing was achieved through surgical resection of the sciatic nerve in neonatal mice at 1 or 14 days old. Sciatic nerve resection (SNR) produced significant and persistent disruptions in gait, leading to reduced tibial length and reductions in Achilles tendon mechanical properties. However, SNR resulted in minimal disruptions in morphometric parameters of the menisci and other structures in the knee joint, with no detectable differences in Col1a1-YFP or Col2a1-CFP expressing cells within the menisci. Furthermore, micromechanical properties of the meniscus and cartilage (as assessed by atomic force microscopy-based nanoindentation testing) were not different between experimental groups. In contrast to our initial hypothesis, reduced hindlimb weight bearing via neonatal SNR did not significantly impact the growth and development of the knee meniscus. This unexpected finding demonstrates that the input mechanical threshold required to sustain meniscus development may be lower than previously hypothesized, though future studies incorporating skeletal kinematic models coupled with force plate measurements will be required to calculate the loads passing through the affected hindlimb and precisely define these thresholds. Collectively, these results provide insight into the mechanobiological responses of the meniscus to alterations in load, and contribute to our understanding of the factors that influence normal postnatal development.

Abstract
Mechanistic insight into ageing may empower prolonging the lifespan of humans; however, a complete understanding of this process is still lacking despite a plethora of ageing theories. In order to address this, we investigated the association of lifespan with eight phenotypic traits, that is, litter size, body mass, female and male sexual maturity, somatic mutation, heart, respiratory, and metabolic rate. In support of the somatic mutation theory, we analysed 15 mammalian species and their whole-genome sequencing deriving somatic mutation rate, which displayed the strongest negative correlation with lifespan. All remaining phenotypic traits showed almost equivalent strong associations across this mammalian cohort, however, resting heart rate explained additional variance in lifespan. Integrating somatic mutation and resting heart rate boosted the prediction of lifespan, thus highlighting that resting heart rate may either directly influence lifespan, or represents an epiphenomenon for additional lower-level mechanisms, for example, metabolic rate, that are associated with lifespan.

Abstract
Dilaridae are a distinctive and phylogenetically ambiguous neuropteran family. So far, the anatomy of the immature stages remains largely unknown. We examined the 1st instar larvae of Dilar montanus in detail and present results of live observations for the first time. The minute, cryptic larvae display features correlated with their underground lifestyle: for instance, a strongly flattened head, stout antennae, eyelessness, and burrowing forelegs. In contrast to molecular data, several characters suggest a 'dilarid clade' combining Dilaridae with Mantispoidea, for instance a very thin and curved or reduced tentorial bridge, and an elongated postmentum. We found intrinsic antennal muscles and Johnston's organ, the first record of these structures in holometabolous larvae. This proves that the first 2 larval antennomeres are homologous with the scapus and pedicellus. The described characters are discussed and analyzed with an updated matrix of neuropteran larval characters. Alternative scenarios of character evolution are presented. Additionally, we show how the 1st-instar larvae move and feed in the substrate, and also provide a high-resolution video recording of the function of the elongate tubular ovipositor and the egg-laying behavior in an adult female under natural conditions.

Abstract
With the characteristics of fast prototyping and personalized manufacturing, 3D-printing (three-dimensional printing) is an emerging technology with promising applications for orthopedic medical devices. It can complete the process of medical devices with complex shape which can not be completed by conventional fabrication process. At present, a variety of orthopedic medical devices manufactured by 3D printing technology, has been approved for marketing, and their use has been proved to be beneficial. 3D bioprinting in this area has also made a few breakthroughs. However, many challenges still remain to be addressed as well. In this study, the research status, as well as the development of the 3D-printing technology in the field of orthopedic medical devices is elaborated.

Abstract
New data on distribution, ecology and biology of the rare extant species Paracyphoderris erebeus of the almost completely ancient family Prophalangopsidae (Orthoptera) are given. This montane species prefers humid areas with relatively low summer temperatures. Habits, mating behaviour and life history of P. erebeus are extremely similar to those of the North American representatives of the genus Cyphoderris. Nowadays, the Amurian grig is known from the Myaochan, Badzhalsky, Dusse-Alin, Bureinsky and Aezop ridges in the Khabarovsk Territory (north of the Amur River) and Bydyr Mountain in the Jewish Autonomous Region of Russia only. The analysis of the predicted distribution of P. erebeus based on the occurrence data reveals that the populations of the species may be more widely distributed over the southern part of the Russian Far East, at least up to 56° N. The ecologo-geographic model of the species distribution over its range is generated using the Maxent 3.4.4 software for the first time. Modelling of the P. erebeus distribution for 2021-2040 and 2041-2060 shows that the position of the species range appears to be relatively stable but a weak decline in the foretold suitability during climate warming may result in a reduction in population sizes and the subsequent fragmentation of the species population system. In this case, the Amurian grig will become a prospective to be included on the IUCN Red List.

Abstract
Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a nonmalignant clonal hematopoietic disorder characterized by the lack of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins (GPI-APs) as a consequence of somatic mutations in the phosphatidylinositol glycan anchor biosynthesis class A (PIGA) gene. Clinical manifestations of PNH are intravascular hemolysis, thrombophilia, and bone marrow failure. Treatment of PNH mainly relies on the use of complement-targeted therapy (C5 inhibitors), with the newest agents being explored against other factors involved in the complement cascade to alleviate unresolved intravascular hemolysis and extravascular hemolysis. This review summarizes the biology and current treatment strategies for PNH with the aim of reaching a general audience with an interest in hematologic disorders.

Abstract
In the last few decades, the number of published papers that include search terms such as thermodynamics, entropy, ecology, and ecosystems has grown rapidly. Recently, background research carried out during the development of a paper on "thermodynamics in ecology" revealed huge variation in the understanding of the meaning and the use of some of the central terms in this field-in particular, entropy. This variation seems to be based primarily on the differing educational and scientific backgrounds of the researchers responsible for contributions to this field. Secondly, some ecological subdisciplines also seem to be better suited and applicable to certain interpretations of the concept than others. The most well-known seems to be the use of the Boltzmann-Gibbs equation in the guise of the Shannon-Weaver/Wiener index when applied to the estimation of biodiversity in ecology. Thirdly, this tendency also revealed that the use of entropy-like functions could be diverted into an area of statistical and distributional analyses as opposed to real thermodynamic approaches, which explicitly aim to describe and account for the energy fluxes and dissipations in the systems. Fourthly, these different ways of usage contribute to an increased confusion in discussions about efficiency and possible telos in nature, whether at the developmental level of the organism, a population, or an entire ecosystem. All the papers, in general, suffer from a lack of clear definitions of the thermodynamic functions used, and we, therefore, recommend that future publications in this area endeavor to achieve a more precise use of language. Only by increasing such efforts it is possible to understand and resolve some of the significant and possibly misleading discussions in this area.

Abstract
Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is an age-related progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by mental deterioration, memory deficit, and multiple cognitive abnormalities, with an overall prevalence of ∼2% among industrialized countries. Although a proper diagnosis is not yet available, identification of miRNAs and mRNAs could offer valuable insights into the molecular pathways underlying AD's prognosis. Method: This study aims to utilize microarray bioinformatic analysis to identify potential biomarkers of AD, by analyzing six microarray datasets (GSE4757, GSE5281, GSE16759, GSE28146, GSE12685, and GSE1297) of AD patients, and control groups. Furthermore, this study conducted gene ontology, pathways analysis, and protein-protein interaction network to reveal major pathways linked to probable biological events. The datasets were meta-analyzed using bioinformatics tools, to identify significant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and hub genes and their targeted miRNAs'. Results: According to the findings, CXCR4, TGFB1, ITGB1, MYH11, and SELE genes were identified as hub genes in this study. The analysis of DEGs using GO (gene ontology) revealed that these genes were significantly enriched in actin cytoskeleton regulation, ECM-receptor interaction, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Eventually, hsa-mir-122-5p, hsa-mir-106a-5p, hsa-mir-27a-3p, hsa-mir16-5p, hsa-mir-145-5p, hsa-mir-12-5p, hsa-mir-128-3p, hsa-mir 3200-3p, hsa-mir-103a-3p, and hsa-mir-9-3p exhibited significant interactions with most of the hub genes. Conclusion: Overall, these genes can be considered as pivotal biomarkers for diagnosing the pathogenesis and molecular functions of AD.

Abstract
Effective bioinspiration requires dialogue between designers and biologists, and this dialogue must be rooted in a shared scientific understanding of living systems. To support learning from "nature's overarching design lessons" the Biomimicry Institute has produced ten "Unifying Patterns of Nature". These patterns have been developed to engage with those interested in finding biologically inspired solutions to human challenges. Yet, although well-intentioned and appealing, they are likely to dishearten biologists. The aim of this paper is to identify why and propose alternative principles based on evolutionary theory.

Abstract
Instructor discourse, defined as verbal interactions with students in the classroom, can play an important role in student learning. Instructors who use dialogic discourse invite students to develop their own ideas, and both students and the instructor share ideas in back-and-forth exchanges. This type of discourse is well-suited to facilitate deep learning for students but is rare in undergraduate biology classrooms. Understanding the reasoning that underlies the use of dialogic discourse can inform teaching professional development for instructors who are learning to use discourse to support student learning. Through classroom video recordings to identify dialogic discourse and stimulated recall interviews to elicit instructor reasoning, we investigated why undergraduate biology instructors used dialogic discourse in active-learning lessons. Using inductive and deductive qualitative analysis of interview transcripts, we identified and characterized seven reasons that instructors used dialogic discourse, including three aligned with a theoretical framework of student cognitive engagement and four that emerged from our data set. In addition to aiming to prompt generative cognitive engagement in 34% of instances of dialogic discourse, instructors used dialogic discourse to prompt activity, supply information, provide feedback, decipher student thinking, leverage student thinking, and cue students to make connections. Reasoning varied across different types of dialogic discourse. These findings provide valuable insights that can inform research, teaching professional development, and individual instructors' reflections.

Abstract
Stingless bees (Meliponini) are a ubiquitous and diverse element of the pantropical melittofauna, and have significant cultural and economic importance. This review outlines their diversity, and provides identification keys based on external morphology, brief accounts for each of the recognized genera, and an updated checklist of all living and fossil species. In total there are currently 605 described extant species in 45 extant genera, and a further 18 extinct species in nine genera, seven of which are extinct. A new fossil genus, Adactylurina Engel, gen. nov., is also described for a species in Miocene amber from Ethiopia. In addition to the systematic review, the biology of stingless bees is summarized with an emphasis on aspects related to their nesting biology and architecture.

Abstract
Ferroptosis, a term coined by Dixon et al. in 2012, refers to an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death driven by an overload of lipid peroxides on cellular membranes. It is morphologically and mechanistically distinct from apoptosis and other types of regulated cell death. Many studies have confirmed that ferroptosis is involved in the occurrence and development of many diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases, chronic cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and even tumors. While in the systemic diseases of obstetrics and gynecology, the related researches are still limited. In this article, we retrieved PubMed and WEB OF SCI databases for articles and reviews published before May 6, 2022, using "ferroptosis, ferroptosis regulator, gynecological tumors" as keywords, and comprehensively reviewed on their basis. Here, we systematically summarize the studies on the mechanism and characteristics of ferroptosis, investigate the role of ferroptosis in clinical systemic diseases of obstetrics and gynecology, evaluate the research status, unsolved problems and further research directions of ferroptosis, so as to let people learn more about ferroptosis and establish a research foundation for the exploration of the treatment strategies for ferroptosis-mediated diseases.

Abstract
Copper is an essential trace element that acts as a cofactor in various enzyme active sites in the human body. It participates in numerous life activities, including lipid metabolism, energy metabolism, and neurotransmitter synthesis. The proposal of "Cuproptosis" has made copper metabolism-related pathways a research hotspot in the field of tumor therapy, which has attracted great attention. This review discusses the biological processes of copper uptake, transport, and storage in human cells. It highlights the mechanisms by which copper metabolism affects hepatocellular carcinogenesis and metastasis, including autophagy, apoptosis, vascular invasion, cuproptosis, and ferroptosis. Additionally, it summarizes the current clinical applications of copper metabolism-related drugs in antitumor therapy.

Abstract
Increasing evidence indicates that circadian and diurnal rhythms robustly influence stroke onset, mechanism, progression, recovery, and response to therapy in human patients. Pioneering initial investigations yielded important insights but were often single-center series, used basic imaging approaches, and used conflicting definitions of key data elements, including what constitutes daytime versus nighttime. Contemporary methodologic advances in human neurovascular investigation have the potential to substantially increase understanding, including the use of large multicenter and national data registries, detailed clinical trial data sets, analysis guided by individual patient chronotype, and multimodal computed tomographic and magnetic resonance imaging. To fully harness the power of these approaches to enhance pathophysiologic knowledge, an important foundational step is to develop standardized definitions and coding guides for data collection, permitting rapid aggregation of data acquired in different studies, and ensuring a common framework for analysis. To meet this need, the Leducq Consortium International pour la Recherche Circadienne sur l'AVC (CIRCA) convened a Consensus Statement Working Group of leading international researchers in cerebrovascular and circadian/diurnal biology. Using an iterative, mixed-methods process, the working group developed 79 data standards, including 48 common data elements (23 new and 25 modified/unmodified from existing common data elements), 14 intervals for time-anchored analyses of different granularity, and 7 formal, validated scales. This portfolio of standardized data structures is now available to assist researchers in the design, implementation, aggregation, and interpretation of clinical, imaging, and population research related to the influence of human circadian/diurnal biology upon ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
