Study on temperature effects of broadband absorption spectroscopy based on Doppler broadening combined with a multilinear shape superposition

In this study, we determine the relationship between the broadband absorption spectroscopy and temperature using Doppler broadening combined with a multilinear shape superposition. First, a method for temperature effects on broadband absorption spectroscopy is proposed, utilizing the principle of a multiple Gaussian line shape superposition. A theoretical expression of the temperature effect on broadband spectroscopy is then presented for the first time to the best of our knowledge, and the variation law of broadband absorption spectroscopy with temperature is explained. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the expression is demonstrated by comparing experimental and theoretical data of the SO2 broadband absorption spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that the correlation coefficient (r) between the experimental and theoretical spectra of SO2 within the temperature range of 298.15-923.15 K is greater than 0.93. The method and expression presented in this Letter can effectively explain the data of previous research.

Measurement of CS2 Absorption Cross-Sections in the 188-215 nm Region at Room Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure

Carbon disulfide, an important sulfur-containing species, has strong absorption lines in the wavelength range of 188 nm to 215 nm. It is difficult to accurately measure the absorption cross sections of carbon disulfide because carbon disulfide will be easily converted into carbon sulfide when it is exposed to ultraviolet light. In this study, the absorption cross sections of carbon disulfide were measured by reducing carbon disulfide conversion. The factors affecting carbon disulfide conversion, including gas flow rate, ultraviolet light intensity, and duration of illumination, were studied to reduce the conversion of carbon disulfide by controlling experimental conditions in the experiment. Finally, the absorption cross sections of carbon disulfide at room temperature and atmospheric pressure were calculated using the absorption spectrum and the carbon disulfide concentration in the absence of carbon disulfide conversion. The wavelengths of 16 absorption peaks on the carbon disulfide absorption cross sections of the vibration change were marked. Carbon disulfide has the maximum absorption cross section of 4.5 × 10^-16 cm²/molecule at a wavelength of 198.10 nm.

Quantitative SO2 Detection in Combustion Environments Using Broad Band Ultraviolet Absorption and Laser-Induced Fluorescence

Spectrally resolved ultraviolet (UV) absorption cross sections of SO2 in combustion environments at temperatures from 1120 to 1950 K were measured for the first time in well-controlled conditions through applying broad band UV absorption spectroscopy in specially designed one-dimensional laminar flat flames. The temperature was observed to have a significant effect on the absorption cross-section profiles at wavelength shorter than 260 nm, while at the longer wavelength side, the absorption cross-section profiles have much less dependence on temperature. The absorption cross section at 277.8 nm with a value of 0.68 × 10-18 cm2/molecule was suggested for the evaluation of the SO2 concentration because of the weak dependence on temperature. To make spatially resolved measurements, laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) of SO2 excited by a 266 nm laser was investigated. Spectrally resolved LIF signal was analyzed at different temperatures. The LIF signal showed strong dependence on temperature, which can potentially be used for temperature measurements. At elevated temperatures, spatially resolved LIF SO2 detection up to a few ppm sensitivity was achieved. Combining UV broad band absorption spectroscopy and LIF, highly sensitive and spatially resolved quantitative measurements of SO2 in the combustion environment can be achieved.
