Abstract
Background: Accurate prediction of neurorehabilitation outcomes following Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is crucial for optimizing healthcare resource allocation and improving rehabilitation strategies. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) may identify complex prognostic factors in patients with SCI. However, the influence of psychological variables on rehabilitation outcomes remains underexplored despite their potential impact on recovery success. Methods: A cohort of 303 patients with SCI was analyzed with an ANN model that employed 17 input variables, structured into two hidden layers and a single output node. Clinical and psychological data were integrated to predict functional outcomes, which were measured by the Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM) at discharge. Paired Wilcoxon tests were used to evaluate pre-post differences and linear regression was used to assess correlations, with Pearson's coefficient and the Root Mean Square Error calculated. Results: Significant improvements in SCIM scores were observed (21.8 ± 15.8 at admission vs. 57.4 ± 22.5 at discharge, p < 0.001). The model assigned the highest predictive weight to SCIM at admission (10.3%), while psychological factors accounted for 36.3%, increasing to 40.9% in traumatic SCI cases. Anxiety and depression were the most influential psychological predictors. The correlation between the predicted and actual SCIM scores was R = 0.794 for the entire sample and R = 0.940 for traumatic cases. Conclusions: The ANN model demonstrated the strong impact, especially for traumatic SCI, of psychological factors on functional outcomes. Anxiety and depression emerged as dominant negative predictors. Conversely, self-esteem and emotional regulation functioned as protective factors increasing functional outcomes. These findings support the integration of psychological assessments into predictive models to enhance accuracy in SCI rehabilitation outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify mediating roles of mindfulness, self-efficacy, social support, and functional independence in the relationship between pain and quality of life (QOL) in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using a sample of 272 persons with SCI living in the United States. The participants completed self-report standardized questionnaires on a Qualtrics survey. A parallel mediation analysis adjusting for covariates was performed to test the hypotheses. RESULTS Findings showed significant direct effects of pain on functional independence, self-efficacy, mindfulness, and social support. Self-efficacy, mindfulness, and social support had significant direct effects on QOL. In the mediation analysis, mindfulness, self-efficacy, and social support significantly mediated the relationship between pain and QOL, controlling for other variables in the model. CONCLUSIONS This study adds to the extant literature by providing evidence that mindfulness, self-efficacy, and social support not only directly contribute to QOL but are likely to mitigate the negative effect of pain on QOL in persons with SCI. Identifying these potential factors that can assuage the adverse effects of pain on QOL is a first step toward active intervention to facilitate the adjustment of persons with SCI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate psychological correlates of self-rated resilience, as assessed with the 10-item version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), in older adults. In particular, we were interested in the degree to which self-rated resilience might be a protective factor against cognitive decline. METHOD In total, 100 adults aged 60-90 years who had been referred because of subjective cognitive concerns completed self-report measures of resilience, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and satisfaction with life. They also completed a test of learning and memory. Ratings about daily functioning at home and in the community were obtained from both participants and proxy informants. RESULTS Resilience ratings correlated strongly negatively with concurrent self-rated symptoms of anxiety and depression, and strongly positively with self-rated life satisfaction. However, only informant ratings of daily functioning correlated with actual participant performance on a test of learning and memory, with lower ratings being associated with worse test performance. CONCLUSIONS Self-rated resilience, as measured by the CD-RISC-10, is primarily related to subjective well-being and does not inform sufficiently about relative risk for cognitive dysfunction in older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is disproportionately impacting the health of people with disability. Resilience has remained an important health promoting characteristic during periods of social distancing restrictions. Factors promoting resilience for people with disability under the context of the pandemic remains poorly understood. Studies have yet to investigate evidence-based factors that promote resilience over multiple periods of restrictions for people with disability. METHODS A longitudinal study developed via a collaborative partnership between peer-support workers with lived experience of spinal cord injury (SCI) and university researchers was undertaken to fill knowledge gaps around factors promoting resilience for people with SCI during two periods of stringent social distancing restrictions within Victoria, Australia. Over 12-months, participants with SCI completed two surveys, towards the end of two lockdown periods. Evidence-based factors associated with resilience were measured. The Impact on Participation and Autonomy Questionnaire, the International SCI Quality of Life scale, and the 10-item Conor Davidson Resilience Scale, respectively measured autonomy and participation limitations, life satisfaction and psychological health, and resilience. A structural equation modelling (SEM) approach established factors directly and indirectly associated with resilience. RESULTS A model with excellent fit was produced. During two extended lockdowns over the 12-month period, increased family role limitations and favourable psychological health were respectively, negatively (Lockdown 1 [n = 127]: β = -.251, p < .01, Lockdown 2: β = -.400, p < .01) and positively (Lockdown 1: β = .601, p < .01, Lockdown 2 [n = 65]: β = .430, p < .01) associated with resilience. Indirect negative associations between resilience and increased outdoor autonomy limitations (Lockdown 1: β = -.195, p < .01, Lockdown 2: β = -.255, p < .01) and social life limitations (Lockdown 1: β = -.217, p < .01, Lockdown 2: β = -.142, p < .05) existed, and these relationships were moderated by psychological health. CONCLUSIONS Psychological health, and participation and autonomy are determinants of resilience during periods of crisis. Health and social care providers and public health departments should prioritise programs promoting these domains, to counter the negative impact of social distancing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality of life is considered the most overarching psychosocial adaptation outcome following the rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury. Literature suggests that the quality of life of persons with spinal cord injury is determined by many personal and psychological factors, including mindfulness. This study aimed to identify the direct and indirect effect of mindfulness on the quality of life of persons living with spinal cord injury. METHODS Participants consisted of 231 members of three spinal cord injury organizations in the United States: United Spinal Association, North American Spinal Cord Injury Consortium, and Paralyzed Veterans of America-Wisconsin Chapter. The participants completed a set of standardized self-report questionnaires in an online Qualtrics survey. A hierarchical regression analysis was performed to identify the contribution of mindfulness to quality of life, controlling for sociodemographic and injury-related factors. A serial mediation analysis was performed to examine the indirect effect of mindfulness on quality of life. RESULTS In the hierarchical regression analysis, sociodemographic and injury-related factors (i.e., age, gender, race, marital status, education, employment, level and completeness of injury, comorbidities, frequency of hospitalization, pain intensity, and functional limitation) and mindfulness explained 59% variance on quality of life of the participants with spinal cord injury. Mindfulness uniquely contributed to the higher quality of life above and beyond sociodemographic and injury-related variables. In the serial mediation analysis, pain and functional limitation did not significantly mediate the relationship between mindfulness and quality of life. However, the indirect effects of mindfulness on functional limitation and quality of life through pain were significant. CONCLUSION The findings underscore the vital role of mindfulness in improving the quality of life of persons with spinal cord injury. Implications of these findings for future research and clinical practice are discussed.

Abstract
PURPOSE To systematically search for current research on the role of resilience in the physical rehabilitation of SCI and describe the research to date. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach was used. Five databases were searched for papers published up to March 2020. The sample included adults who have sustained an SCI; outcomes included a physical rehabilitation outcome and a measure of psychological or personal resilience/resilience training. RESULTS The initial search found 2074 studies. 12 studies were included. Six suggest positive effects of resilience on physical functioning/recovery, six report resilience as not affecting physical functioning/recovery. CONCLUSIONS Resilience may positively affect physical outcomes; however, the relationship is under-researched and contrasting findings may be due to measurements and methods employed by research. Future research may distinguish between two sources of resilience following an SCI: prior resilient experiences, and resilience as a product of the injury. Individuals' past events that triggered resilient behaviour may be able to promote a resilient response to an SCI. Focussing on emotional coping may result in poorer outcomes than building a sense of control. Resilience training may affect psychosocial rehabilitation; it is difficult to establish if it would affect physical outcomes. A negative approach to an injury can have negative effects on functioning; when identifying patients for psychoeducational training, those with the presence of negative appraisals of their injury are most in need.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONResilience may positively affect physical outcomes; however, the relationship is under-researched.Individuals' past events that triggered resilient behaviour may be able to promote a resilient response to an SCI.Focussing on emotional coping may result in poorer outcomes than building a sense of control.When identifying patients for psychoeducational training, it may be those with the presence of negative appraisals of their injury that are most in need.

Abstract
Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in autonomic, motor, and sensory impairments that can compromise mental health. Guidelines directing the management of mental health following SCI presently address clinical anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, substance use disorders, and suicide. However, evidence suggests that perhaps as many as 70% of individuals with SCI do not develop a clinically diagnosable mental health disorder. Therefore, the authors contend that understanding non-clinical cognitive and psychological aspects of adjustment post-SCI is paramount and that the application of this knowledge to the formulation of adjustment-enhancing interventions is crucial. To assist with this endeavour, we examine existing mental health guidelines targeting SCI, and present a narrative review of research on the under-represented topics of adjustment, coping, grief, and resilience. We include mild cognitive impairment, which reflects a common factor that can compromise adjustment. Loss and stress trigger processes of adjustment, coping, grief, and resilience. SCI involves loss and stress triggering these processes, arguably without exception. Our study applied a narrative review methodology searching Google Scholar and PsychInfo databases for terms adjustment, coping, grief, resilience, and cognitive impairment. Qualitative studies and quantitative studies were selected to capture bottom-up and top-down perspectives. Reference lists of retrieved papers were searched as appropriate. Reviewed literature suggested that existing guidelines concerning mental health following SCI neglect positive processes of adjustment and suggest this neglect contributes to a deficits-based view of mental health following SCI. Research into "positive" or adjustment-enhancing processes is mostly cross-sectional, heterogenous, and poorly positioned to inform future guideline-development. Researchers should achieve consensus over the operationalisation of essential processes and overcome a fixation with "outcomes" to better inform management of mental health after SCI.

Abstract
The purpose of this current study is to find the characteristics and influence mechanism of the perceived social support (PSS) and general well-being (GWB) of adolescents and to explore the mediating role of resilience on the relationship between PSS and GWB in the worst-stricken areas 10 years after the Wenchuan Earthquake. This study was conducted in two secondary schools in Beichuan (N = 1969) using the Perceived Social Support Scale, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the General Well-Being Scale. Results showed that PSS of adolescents in the worst-stricken area significantly decreased compared to 10 years ago and their current PSS was lower than their peers' in developed cities. Significant correlations were observed between PSS, resilience, and GWB. PSS significantly predicted resilience and GWB, and resilience significantly predicted GWB with resilience having a partially mediating effect ratio of 16.39% between PSS and GWB. These results indicated that PSS not only directly affected GWB but also had a mediated effect on GWB through resilience. The present results suggest that interventions to strengthen resilience and social networks could be effective ways to enhance adolescents' general well-being.
