Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify and analyze the scientific literature, both national and international, concerning the primary maternal concerns about caring for premature newborns at home. METHODS This integrative review is based on the guiding question: "What scientific publications from 2012 to 2021 address maternal concerns about the care of premature newborns at home?". Searches were conducted in the electronic databases: Embase, Medline, Web of Science, Lilacs, Scielo, and Cochrane Library. RESULTS A total of 21 articles were identified. The qualitative analysis showed that maternal concerns pertained to breastfeeding, hygiene, sunbathing practices, managing infant colic, identifying signs, symptoms, and clinical changes, temperature control, and the third phase of the kangaroo method. CONCLUSIONS Maternal uncertainties underscore the importance of enhancing strategies focused on supporting families and ensuring continued care for neonates at home.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maternal stress can affect both the neonate and the mother and deter them from participating in the care of preterm neonates. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the supportive care program (SCP) based on Bandura's self-efficacy on stress and participation of mothers of neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. MATERIALS AND METHODS This quasi-experimental study was performed in 2020 on 90 mothers of premature infants admitted to the NICU of Hajar Hospital in Shahrekord, Iran. First, the control group and then the experimental group were selected and a training package based on Bandura's self-efficacy theory was implemented for the intervention group. The research instruments in this study were the Heidari mothers stress questionnaire and Melnyk mother's participation questionnaire which was completed before and after the intervention. The analysis was performed based on SPSS (version 24) and Chi-square, independent t-test, and paired tests. RESULTS The results indicated that the demographic variables of mothers and neonatal characteristics of the two groups did not have significant differences except for the history of abortion and infertility in mothers and the weight of preterm neonates (P < 0.05). Mothers in the experimental group had less stress (t (88) = 29.50, P < 0.001) and more participation than the control group (t (88) = -27.18, P < 0.001) after the intervention. CONCLUSIONS Using self-efficacy-based SCP for maternal education besides routine education could positively affect the reduction of stress and the increase of maternal participation in caring for preterm neonates during hospitalization. Thus, using this supportive program is suggested for mothers with preterm neonates admitted to NICU.

Abstract
Background The early postpartum period is a critical time for first-time parents as they adapt to their new role. Perceived lack of social support is a risk factor for developing mental health problems. Insufficient or inappropriate professional support for both parents has been reported by many studies. Social support that appropriately meets parents' needs is an important protective factor for parents' wellbeing; however, little is known about the social support needs of both first-time parents. Aims and objectives To describe both first-time parents' formal social support needs in the early postpartum period. Method Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with first-time parents recruited on the postpartum ward of a Swiss university hospital. Thematic analysis was used to identify themes and sub-themes. Results Fifteen mothers and eleven fathers were interviewed. Twelve themes were identified. Mothers' themes were "experiencing postpartum changes," "creation of a family unit," "self-esteem," "emotional needs," "difficulty in communicating their needs," and "the postpartum stay." Fathers' themes were "to be included in care procedures on the postpartum ward," "to be reassured," "to anticipate their postpartum stay" and "to consider their need as non-priority." Parental shared needs were: "to care for their newborn," and "returning home." Conclusion Mothers' and fathers' needs differed. Mothers needed more emotional support than fathers and fathers considered themselves as the main support for their partner. Fathers wanted to be integrated in the care of their newborn.

Abstract
Background Most parents of Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) babies often expressed dissatisfaction with the nursing care in NICU because of their unaddressed needs, resulting in emotional strain. This raises an essential question of how NICU nurses provide support for the parents. However, this can be relatively challenging in the NICU setting. Objective To explore nurses' views on the nature of parental support provided in NICU settings in Brunei Darussalam. Methods This study employed a qualitative research approach conducted in 2020. Ten nurses were individually interviewed in semi-structured interviews. The data were analysed using thematic analysis. Results Three broad themes were identified, namely: (1) Emotional and informational support (2) Keeping the support going (3) Seeking help from others. The data provide insights into how nurses provide emotional and informational support to parents in the NICU setting. Challenges were encountered in providing support and were addressed through the involvement of the doctors and emotional support continuity by nursing colleagues. Conclusion This paper describes two critical supports given to the parents in the NICU setting and the challenges that underline these supports and proposes strategies used by nurses to help the parents. The balance needed between work demand and parental support is highlighted. In order to give more robust parental support, ongoing interactions with doctors and nursing colleagues are required.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Psychosocial and educational interventions based on standardized needs assessment can help alleviate distress among parents of premature infants. This study aims to (1) provide an overview of standardized instruments used to assess parental needs in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and (2) discuss their potential to facilitate the provision of appropriate support to parents of premature babies. METHODS A systematic literature review was conducted. PubMed, CiNAHL, PsychARTICLES, PsychINFO, and Medline were searched for studies reporting on the use of validated parental needs assessment instruments in the NICU. RESULTS Following the analysis of 33 publications, 6 instruments designed to assess the needs of premature infants' parents were identified. Based on their good psychometric properties and practicality, the NICU Family Needs Inventory, the Critical Care Maternal Needs Inventory, and the Nurse Parent Support Tool were considered particularly relevant for use in clinical and research settings. CONCLUSIONS Validated parent needs assessment instruments are available for use in the NICU setting. Further research evaluating the benefits and usability of standardized parental needs assessment in the NICU is needed. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Validated needs assessment instruments should be consistently used to facilitate the development of targeted psychosocial and educational interventions for parents in the NICU.

Abstract
Background Hospitalization of preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) is a stressful experience for parents. Iranian NICUs do not have specified levels of care, nor do they integrate supportive methods of parent support such as family-centered care approaches. This study investigated the range and types of neonatal nursing support, as perceived by mothers of preterm infants, and its association with mothers' satisfaction with infant care in the NICU. Methods This is a descriptive, correlational study of mothers of preterm infants who were hospitalized in three different NICUs in Iran. A convenience sampling method was used. Data were collected using three questionnaires that identified (i) demographic information; (ii) social support available; and (iii) parent satisfaction with infant care. Results Mothers (N = 110) generally rated the support from nurses as being moderate. Correlation analysis identified a moderate association of neonatal nurse social support domains for affirmational (r = 0.44) and concrete aid (r = 0.41), a moderately strong association for affectional support (r = 0.64), and total social support (r = 0.60) with mothers' satisfaction. Conclusion There were positive associations between social support from nurses and mothers' satisfaction with the care of their infants. Therefore, planning to promote and create opportunities for neonatal nurses to support mothers in NICU is important to promote increased maternal satisfaction in infant care.

Abstract
Family-centered care (FCC) currently takes a greater role in health care, due to the increasing empowerment parents experience. Within neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), family participation has an impact on the humanized care of the preterm newborn (PN). This integrative review conducted according to Whittemore and Knafl investigated current knowledge of the FCC model and its application in PN care in specific units. The data were collected from PubMed, Cochrane, CINHAL, Scopus, and Google Scholar. A total of 45 articles were used, of which 13 were selected which met inclusion criteria. Their methodological quality was evaluated using the mixed method appraisal tool (MMAT), and after they were analyzed and grouped into four thematic blocks: (1) parental participation; (2) health parental training; (3) benefits of family empowerment; and (4) humanized care. The results revealed that FCCs promote the integration of health equipment and family. In addition, parents become the primary caregivers. The benefits of the family–PN binomial enable an earlier hospital discharge. Humanized care involves an ethical approach, improving health care. Changes are still needed by health managers to adapt health services to the needs of the family and PNs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Mothers of infants hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) need to be recognized as essential partners of the care team as their presence and involvement are key to infants' health and developmental outcomes. Addressing mothers' perceived needs is beneficial for the improvement of supportive nursing care; however, little qualitative research on their unmet needs has been conducted in South Korea. This study assessed mothers' perspectives on their NICU experiences and their unmet needs within the South Korean cultural context. METHOD A cross-sectional, multicentered, secondary analysis study was conducted using the written responses to an open-ended questionnaire. Of the 344 NICU-experienced mothers, 232 throughout South Korea (seven cities and five provinces) voluntarily completed the questionnaire via smartphone-based or web-based surveys. Their narrative responses were analyzed using thematic content analysis guided by the critical incident technique. RESULTS Four themes emerged. NICU-experienced mothers of preterm infants referred to the "family-friendly environment" (16.4%) as a positive experience. The greatest unmet need was "relationship-based support" (58.2%), followed by "information and education-based support" (20.0%) and "system-level challenges" (5.4%). CONCLUSION The importance of creating a family-friendly NICU environment should be emphasized by ensuring 24-hour unrestricted access and encouraging active parental involvement in infant care, as well as actively supporting NICU families through supportive words and actions. The assurance of antiinfection management and better staffing levels should be fundamentally guaranteed to NICU staff.
