Abstract
This study aimed to describe absolute muscle strength and power in children and adolescents with obesity, overweight and normal weight, and the assessment tests and tools used. We retrieved observational studies from MEDLINE (PubMed), TripDataBase, Epistemonikos, EBSCO essentials, NICE, SCOPUS, and LILACs up to February 2023. In addition, we recovered data from studies with at least three comparison groups (obesity, overweight, normal weight) and with a description of the absolute muscle strength and power and the assessment tests and instruments used. The methodologic quality of the studies was assessed with the Joanna Briggs checklist, and the review was carried out using the PRISMA 2020 methodology. Eleven studies with 13,451 participants from 6 to 18 years of age were once included, finding that the absolute muscle strength of their upper extremities was greater when they were overweight or obese; however, in the same groups, absolute muscle strength was lower when they carried their body weight. In addition, lower limb absolute muscle strength was significantly lower in obese participants than in normal weight, regardless of age and gender. The most used tools to measure the absolute muscle strength of the upper limbs were the grip dynamometers and push-up exercises. In contrast, different jump tests were used to measure the power of the lower limbs. There are great differences in muscle strength and power between overweight or obese children and adolescents and those with normal weight. Therefore, it is recommended to use validated tests, preferably that assess strength through the load of the patient's body weight, either of the upper or lower limbs, for greater evaluation objectivity that facilitates the management of these children and adolescents.

Abstract
Minimal but increasing number of assessment instruments for Executive functions (EFs) and adaptive functioning (AF) have either been developed for or adapted and validated for use among children in low and middle income countries (LAMICs). However, the suitability of these tools for this context is unclear. A systematic review of such instruments was thus undertaken. The Systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) checklist (Liberati et al., in BMJ (Clinical Research Ed.), 339, 2009). A search was made for primary research papers reporting psychometric properties for development or adaptation of either EF or AF tools among children in LAMICs, with no date or language restrictions. 14 bibliographic databases were searched, including grey literature. Risk of bias assessment was done following the COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement INstruments) guidelines (Mokkink et al., in Quality of Life Research,63, 32, 2014). For EF, the Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Functioning (BRIEF- multiple versions), Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), Go/No-go and the Rey-Osterrieth complex figure (ROCF) were the most rigorously validated. For AFs, the Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales (VABS- multiple versions) and the Child Function Impairment Rating Scale (CFIRS- first edition) were most validated. Most of these tools showed adequate internal consistency and structural validity. However, none of these tools showed acceptable quality of evidence for sufficient psychometric properties across all the measured domains, particularly so for content validity and cross-cultural validity in LAMICs. There is a great need for adequate adaptation of the most popular EF and AF instruments, or alternatively the development of purpose-made instruments for assessing children in LAMICs. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Psychosocial and educational interventions based on standardized needs assessment can help alleviate distress among parents of premature infants. This study aims to (1) provide an overview of standardized instruments used to assess parental needs in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and (2) discuss their potential to facilitate the provision of appropriate support to parents of premature babies. METHODS A systematic literature review was conducted. PubMed, CiNAHL, PsychARTICLES, PsychINFO, and Medline were searched for studies reporting on the use of validated parental needs assessment instruments in the NICU. RESULTS Following the analysis of 33 publications, 6 instruments designed to assess the needs of premature infants' parents were identified. Based on their good psychometric properties and practicality, the NICU Family Needs Inventory, the Critical Care Maternal Needs Inventory, and the Nurse Parent Support Tool were considered particularly relevant for use in clinical and research settings. CONCLUSIONS Validated parent needs assessment instruments are available for use in the NICU setting. Further research evaluating the benefits and usability of standardized parental needs assessment in the NICU is needed. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Validated needs assessment instruments should be consistently used to facilitate the development of targeted psychosocial and educational interventions for parents in the NICU.

Abstract
Medication nonadherence continues to be a serious issue in a range of long-term medical conditions and has been studied extensively over the past few decades. However, despite the plethora of research studies on medication adherence, poor methodological rigour in many studies has contributed to limited generalisability of the positive findings, limited impact on patients' medication adherence, and inability to compare between studies. This paper focuses on current guidelines designed specifically for research on medication adherence. It discusses key elements to consider during study design, selection of adherence measurements, and reporting on medication adherence research, to ensure a higher quality of research in medication adherence. Overall, there appears to be variations in adherence terminology reported in the literature despite improvements in defining medication taking behaviour and the availability of taxonomies. In addition, limited guidance exists on how best to measure adherence. Recommendations are provided on appropriate adherence measures for the adherence behaviour being investigated, including careful consideration of adherence concepts, validity of adherence instruments, appropriate instrument selection, definition of nonadherence threshold, and how to report medication adherence. Improving adherence research requires greater clarity and standardisation of descriptions of nonadherence behaviour, increased methodological rigour in study designs, better selection of adherence measurements, and comprehensive reporting.

Abstract
The topic of personnel assessment in psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics is currently of great importance in terms of health policy. Sufficient empirical evidence for the development of a comprehensive system for staffing is not yet available. The platform model developed by the psychiatric psychosomatic societies and associations pursues a combined empirical normative approach for a future-oriented assessment instrument for the various professional groups. The concept presented has been proven in the health policy discussion as a sensible system of comprehensive personnel assessment; however, an empirically sound control is still lacking as to whether this system can be used practically for the task described and thus can withstand the task of a resilient and future-proof measurement instrument for the necessary personnel. The task of the present study was to examine the extent to which the assumptions of the platform model are confirmed, whether methodological indications can be identified and whether there are limitations of the study that can be used in the validation and foundation of the model. The study confirmed the feasibility of the model and refers to a number of methodological findings and limitations that can be used for the further development of the model. The developed model allows the necessary staffing to be derived and justified, regardless of diagnoses and settings. It is future-oriented and dynamic.

Abstract
Background During the last decades, a renewed interest for negative symptoms (NS) was brought about by the increased awareness that they interfere severely with real-life functioning, particularly when they are primary and persistent. Methods In this guidance paper, we provide a systematic review of the evidence and elaborate several recommendations for the conceptualization and assessment of NS in clinical trials and practice. Results Expert consensus and systematic reviews have provided guidance for the optimal assessment of primary and persistent negative symptoms; second-generation rating scales, which provide a better assessment of the experiential domains, are available; however, NS are still poorly assessed both in research and clinical settings. This European Psychiatric Association (EPA) guidance recommends the use of persistent negative symptoms (PNS) construct in the context of clinical trials and highlights the need for further efforts to make the definition of PNS consistent across studies in order to exclude as much as possible secondary negative symptoms. We also encourage clinicians to use second-generation scales, at least to complement first-generation ones. The EPA guidance further recommends the evidence-based exclusion of several items included in first-generation scales from any NS summary or factor score to improve NS measurement in research and clinical settings. Self-rated instruments are suggested to further complement observer-rated scales in NS assessment. Several recommendations are provided for the identification of secondary negative symptoms in clinical settings. Conclusions The dissemination of this guidance paper may promote the development of national guidelines on negative symptom assessment and ultimately improve the care of people with schizophrenia.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Pain is a multi-faceted symptom. Effective pain assessment involves properly defining the pain syndrome, utilizing various assessment tools, and recognizing different conditions which may affect the expression and the management of pain. RECENT FINDINGS Pain results from multiple physical and psychosocial etiological interplay. It has traditionally been categorized as acute or chronic with chronic pain having been categorized further into 6 categories in ICD 11. At the same time, the opioid epidemic and the recent surge in cannabis popularity further complicates pain assessment and effective pain management. Adequate management of pain begins with proper assessment including conducting extensive medical and psychosocial history and physical examination, and utilizing various pain and substance risk assessment tools. An interdisciplinary team approach may be more effective in managing complex pain behaviors compared to a solo approach.

Abstract
In 2009, the Swedish government launched a nationwide dissemination and implementation project regarding substance abuse treatment, Knowledge to Practice (KTP), which was commissioned by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (SoS). AIM The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a national project to disseminate and implement evidence-based assessment instruments and treatment methods, and to promote cross-sectional collaboration in substance abuse treatment. DESIGN AND RECRUITMENT This study was a naturalistic prospective follow-up study of a sample of 3063 participants in 203 municipalities via five consecutive online surveys. Of the 21 Swedish regions, we included 20. All participants, representing 79.5% of the population, were employed in substance abuse treatment/care within social work and psychiatry. We used individual background variables and factors in the organizational readiness for change (ORC) questionnaire for prediction. METHODS We calculated descriptive statistics using SPSS 24.0. We applied latent profile analysis (LPA) to identify respondents with distinct growth profiles across five assessment points. Next, we calculated multilevel growth curve analyses using full information maximum likelihood analysis (FIML) in Mplus 8.3. In the analyses, we nested "within-person change" (level 1) in "between-persons analysis" (level 2). We, in turn, nested these in municipalities/regions (level 3). We included both respondents and organizational predictors in levels 2 and 3. We tested four statistical models in the multilevel analyses to predict the outcome. RESULTS The annual response rate was 59% on average across the five years. Respondents were a homogenous group with regard to education and years of employment, and two thirds were women. We identified four different trajectories nationwide, which showed different growth profiles for the use of methods and assessment instruments. Our results showed a larger between-region variation than within-region variation in outcome indicators. Some regions were more successful than others over the five years. At the respondent level, the years of employment in treatment work was associated with increased use of assessment instruments, while the ORC factor, institutional resources, predicted decreased use of assessment instruments. Specialist competence and the ORC factors staff attributes (job satisfaction, efficacy, and influence) and institutional resources predicted increased use of psychosocial treatment methods. The ORC factor organizational climate was positively associated with increased cross-sectional collaboration activities.

Abstract
People with intellectual disability (ID) have a high vulnerability to develop mental health problems. The prevalence of mental disorders is higher than in the general population and, in addition, adults with ID often show behavioral problems that imply a need for psychiatric psychotherapeutic care. In view of the impairments of intellectual functioning, impaired adaptive behavioral skills and physical illnesses, the needs of this target group are usually complex and require particular expertise. A number of specific assessment instruments are available for target group-specific diagnostics to collate the cognitive performance and emotional development as well as for psychopathological symptoms and behavioral disorders. To improve the accuracy of diagnosis in the ID population, existing alternatives to DSM or ICD should be applied especially to adults with moderate or severe ID. Guidelines for psychopharmacotherapy and adapted user guides for psychotherapeutic treatment provide support in the context of target group-specific treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Observing and analyzing movement quality (MQ) in patients with non-specific low back pain (NS-LBP) is important in the clinical reasoning of primary care physiotherapists and exercise therapists. However, there is no standardized form of assessment. RESEARCH QUESTION which MQ domains are measured with which instruments, and which activities are relevant, appropriate and methodologically sound for assessing MQ in patients with NS-LBP? METHODS The study had three phases. In phase 1 we conducted a systematic review in PubMed, CINAHL and SPORTDiscus of literature published until October 2018. The selected studies measured MQ domains with instruments that enabled us to 1) compare MQ in self-paced dynamic activities of patients with NS-LBP and healthy controls, and/or 2) determine change over time of MQ in patients with NS-LBP. In phase 2 we established relevant dynamic activities to assess in patients with NS-LBP. In phase 3 we determined appropriateness and methodological qualities of the selected instruments. RESULTS Thirty cross-sectional and three pre-post-test studies were eligible. The instruments consisted of complex (n = 19) and simple (n = 7) instrumented motion analysis systems and standardized observational tests (n = 7). We identified three domains representative for MQ: range of motion (ROM), inter-segmental coordination, and whole-body movements. In these domains, patients with NS-LBP significantly differed from healthy controls, respectively 7/12, 12/13 and 13/20 studies. Moreover, ROM and whole-body movements significantly improved over time in patients with NS-LBP (3/3 studies). Based on phase 3, we concluded that none of the instruments are appropriate to assess MQ in patients with NS-LBP in primary care. SIGNIFICANCE Forward bending, lifting, and walking seem the most relevant activities to evaluate in patients with NS-LBP. However, we found no suitable instruments to measure ROM, inter-segmental coordination, or whole-body movements as determinants of MQ in these activities in daily practice. We therefore recommend such an instrument be developed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While many instruments have been developed, validated, and used to assess health literacy skills, their use and appropriateness among patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are not widely studied. OBJECTIVE To identify, appraise, and synthesize available health literacy assessment instruments used in patients with CVDs. METHODS Electronic databases were searched for studies that used validated measures to assess health literacy in patients with CVDs. Included studies were assessed for risk of bias and the identified instruments were evaluated based on their psychometric properties. Data were synthesized using a narrative approach. RESULTS Forty-three studies were included in the review, of which 20 were cross-sectional studies and 12 were randomized controlled trials. Eleven health literacy assessment instruments were identified, of which only one was disease-specific. The Abbreviated version of the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (S-TOFHLA) (n = 19) and the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM) (n = 13) were found to be the most commonly used instruments to assess health literacy in CVDs. CONCLUSIONS The S-TOFHLA and the REALM are the most widely used instruments to evaluate health literacy in CVD population. More CVD-specific health literacy screening instruments are warranted. Assessment of health literacy should be a standard of care in patients with CVDs and effective interventions should be developed to improve the impact of limited health literacy on health outcomes in this population.

Abstract
Objectives To synthesize the evidence on the psychometrics functional capacity evaluation (FCE) methods. Methods A systematic literature search in nine databases. The resulting articles were screened based on predefined in- and exclusion criteria. Two reviewers independently performed this screening. Included studies were appraised based on their methodological quality. Results The search resulted in 20 eligible studies about nine different FCE methods. The Baltimore Therapeutic Equipment work simulator showed a moderate predictive validity. The Ergo-Kit (EK) showed moderate variability and high inter- and intra-rater reliability. Low discriminative abilities and high convergent validity were found for the EK. Concurrent validity of the EK and the ERGOS Work Simulator was low to moderate. Moderate to high test-retest, inter- and intra-reliability was found in the Isernhagen Work-Systems (IWS) FCE. The predictive validity of the IWS was low. The physical work performance evaluation (PWPE) showed moderate test-retest reliability and moderate to high inter-rater reliability. Low internal and external responsiveness were found for the PWPE, predictive validity was high. The predictive validity of the short-form FCE was also high but need to be further examined on several psychometric properties. Low discriminative and convergent validity were found for the work disability functional assessment battery. The WorkHab showed moderate to high test-retest, inter- and intra-rater reliability. Conclusion Well-known FCE methods have been rigorously studied, but some of the research indicates weaknesses in their reliability and validity. Future research should address how these weaknesses can be overcome.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the most widely used tools in the assessment of medical competencies, analyse their prevalence of use, their advantages and disadvantages and propose an appropriate model for our context. METHODS We conducted a narrative review of articles from MEDLINE, following the PRISM protocol, and analysed a total of 62 articles. RESULTS The assessment of competencies is heterogeneous, especially in the educational and professional settings. The specific and technical competencies acquired during university education are mainly assessed using the objective structured clinical assessment. In the professional setting, core competencies are assessed using the 360° technique. CONCLUSIONS We need a rigorous empiric comparison of the efficiency of the tools according to the type of competency. We propose a competency management model for the «undergraduate/graduate/active professional» continuum, whose goal is to improve training and professional practice and thereby increase the quality of patient care.
