Abstract
PURPOSE Many studies have examined the ocular pulse amplitude (OPA) to better understand its physiology and clinical relevance, but the papers are scattered, not consistently indexed, and sometimes difficult to locate. We aimed to identify and summarize the relevant published evidence on OPA and, in a meta-analysis, outline specific differences of this parameter between healthy individual, primary open-angle glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and cataract patients. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS A thorough literature search and data extraction were conducted by 2 reviewers independently. Reports on OPA measured by the dynamic contour tonometry in conjunction with different ocular and systemic diseases or potential influencing factors were included. RESULTS Of the 527 initially found reports, 97 met the inclusion criteria assessing 31 clinical conditions. A meta-analysis based on 6850 eyes and 106 study arms (68.8%) revealed differences in mean OPA values in millimeters of mercury between various entities. Among healthy eyes, the OPA was 2.58 mm Hg (95% CI: 2.45-2.71), whereas OPA values were higher in glaucoma (unspecified glaucoma 2.73 mm Hg, 95% CI: 2.38-3.08; normal-tension glaucoma 2.66 mm Hg, 95% CI: 2.36-2.97; and primary open-angle glaucoma 2.92 mm Hg, 95% CI: 2.75-3.08). Although ocular hypertension showed the highest OPA values (3.53 mm Hg, 95% CI: 3.05-4.01), the lowest values were found in cataract eyes (2.26 mm Hg, 95% CI: 1.57-2.94). CONCLUSION We found different OPA values characteristic of different clinical entities, with above-normal values in glaucoma and ocular hypertension and lower values in cataract patients. Our work is intended for clinicians and researchers who want to get a quick overview of the available evidence or who need statistical data on OPA distributions in individual diseases.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to investigate hemodynamic changes in the retina, peripapillary area, and choroid in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). METHODS This prospective case series included 35 eyes of 35 patients. Vessel density (VD) of superficial capillary plexus, deep capillary plexus, radial peripapillary capillary, foveal avascular zone area, and subfoveal choroidal thickness changes were evaluated using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) 1 day before and 2 weeks after surgery. The correlation of these parameters with aortic cross-clamp (ACC) duration and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) duration was evaluated. RESULTS There were no differences in the OCTA measurements of the patients after CABG compared to before surgery (P > 0.05). Inside-disc VD showed a negative correlation with both ACC (P = 0.036) and CPB duration (P = 0.048); peripapillary inferior hernia showed a negative correlation with both ACC (P = 0.042) and CPB duration (P = 0.027). Another negative correlation was observed between mean peripapillary VD and CPB duration (P = 0.039). CONCLUSION The CPB procedure had no permanent effect on retinal choroid and optic disc blood flow postoperatively. Prolonged ACC and CPB times seem to be important in terms of optic nerve blood flow. Clinicians should be alert for postoperative ocular complications after long surgeries.

Abstract
Background Cardiac surgery has been associated with adverse ocular events. Off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery evades the systemic inflammatory response seen in extracorporeal circulation and is superior to on-pump surgery with regard to end-organ dysfunction and neurological outcomes. Objectives To determine the effects of off-pump (without extracorporeal circulation) coronary artery bypass graft surgery on choroidal thickness, ganglion cell complex, and the retinal nerve fiber layer. Design Prospective, longitudinal study. Methods Patients who underwent off-pump surgery were examined preoperatively and postoperatively at 1 week and 6 weeks after surgery. Choroidal thickness, ganglion cell complex, and the retinal nerve fiber layer measurements were recorded, and the effects of off-pump coronary artery bypass on these parameters were assessed. Results A total of 44 eyes of 44 patients were included in the study. There was a statistically significant increase in subfoveal choroidal thickness from 252.84 ± 56.24 µm preoperatively to 273.82 ± 39.76 µm at 1 week and 301.97 ± 44.83 µm at 6 weeks after off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery (p = 0.044; p ⩽ 0.001). Ganglion cell complex and retinal nerve fiber measurements showed no significant difference compared to preoperative values. Conclusion Off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery showed no negative effects on ganglion cell complex and retinal nerve fiber measurements. A significant increase in subfoveal choroidal thickness was seen after off-pump surgery, which might be advantageous in patients who are at high risk or have preexisting ocular diseases that are affected by the choroid.

Abstract
Background: Microcirculatory changes in congenital heart disease (CHD) patients undergoing cardiac surgery are not fully understood. We aimed to investigate the changes of retinal microcirculation in CHD patients after cardiac surgery by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and explore the association between retinal microcirculation and surgical outcome. Methods: This prospective observational study consisted of 71 CHD patients aged ≥6 years undergoing cardiac surgery including 19 cyanotic CHD (CCHD) and 52 acyanotic CHD (ACHD). Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was used to measure vessel density (VD) and capillary density (CD) of radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) and peripapillary, VD of superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP), thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell complex (GCC) preoperatively and 1 month postoperatively. Transthoracic echocardiography was conducted to measure macrocirculation. Results: In CCHD patients, VD and CD of RPC and peripapillary increased postoperatively (all P < 0.05). In ACHD patients, VD of peripapillary, CD of RPC and peripapillary, and RNFL thickness increased postoperatively (all P < 0.05). VD of SCP and DCP, and GCC thickness did not change significantly in CHD patients after surgery. Lower preoperative retinal microvascular density was associated with longer cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time and postoperative length of stay (PLOS). No correlation was found between microcirculatory and macrohemodynamic parameters (all P > 0.05). Conclusions: Improved retinal microcirculation was observed after congenital cardiac surgery and impaired preoperative retinal microvasculature was associated with prolonged CPB time and PLOS, which might provide potential information about the outcome of congenital cardiac surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitiligo is a disease characterized by depigmented macules and patches that occur as a result of the loss of functional melanocytes from the affected skin through a mechanism which has not been elucidated yet. Destruction of pigment cells in vitiligo may not remain limited to the skin; the eyelashes, iris, ciliary body, choroid, retinal pigment epithelium and meninges may also be affected. This study aims to compare the choroidal thickness of patients with and without vitiligo using optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) (Retina Scan Advanced RS-3000 NIDEK, Japan) instrument (with λ = 840 nm, 27,000 A-scans/second and 5 μm axial resolution) was used for the imaging. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 21.0 software package. RESULTS In all values except optic nevre area measurements, the choroidal thickness of all vitiligo patients was found out to be thinner compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS In vitiligo, the choroidal thickness may be affected by the loss of melanocytes.

Abstract
Background Excessive weight is a well-known risk factor for microvascular diseases. Changes in thickness in a vascular tissue, such as the choroid, can be useful to evaluate the effect of obesity on the microvascular system. The aim of this study was to evaluate the choroidal thickness (CT) changes in obese women, using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods The prospective clinical study included examination of the right eyes of 72 patients. The right eyes of 68 patients were examined and served as the controls. A complete ophthalmological examination and OCT imaging were performed for each group studied. The CT in each eye was measured using OCT. Results The obese group consisted of 72 female patients with a mean age of 37.27 ± 1.18 years. The control group included 68 female subjects with a mean age of 37.85 ± 7.98 years (p > 0.05). There was no statistical significant difference for the foveal retinal thickness measurements between the two groups (p > 0.5). Our study revealed significant choroidal tissue thickening subfoveally and at areas 500 μm temporal, 500 μm nasal, and 1500 μm nasal to the fovea in the obese group (all p < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between body mass index (BMI) and CT changes. Conclusions CT may increase in obese women and a positive correlation was found between BMI and CT. The trial protocol was approved by the Local Ethical Committee of the Kırıkkale University, date of registration: April 27, 2015 (registration number: 10/11).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the potential significance of the central macular thickness (foveal thickness-FT) and choroidal thickness (CT) in the eyes of patients with iron-deficiency anemia, the most common form of the anemia, via enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT). We also investigated whether such changes might serve as an early indicator of underlying hematological disease. METHODS This prospective clinical study compared 96 female patients with iron-deficiency anemia and 60 healthy female control subjects. The macular and choroidal thicknesses in the temporal and nasal subfoveal areas were measured using enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) at 500 and 1500 microns and in five different regions (FCT, T1500, T500, N500, and N1500). RESULTS The mean ages of the patients and healthy controls were 34.08 ± 10.39 years and 32.29 ± 8.28 years, respectively (P =0.232). There were no significant changes in macular thickness between the groups (225.58 ± 19.76 vs. 222.45 ± 13.51, P =0.2). The choroidal thickness was significantly reduced in the patient group relative to the controls at all measured points (foveal choroidal thickness, P = 0.042; nasal-500 microns, P = 0.033; temporal-500 microns, P = 0.033; and temporal-1500 microns, P = 0.019). At some points, the choroidal thickness findings correlated with the hemoglobin values (temporal-500 microns, r = -0.287, P = 0.001; nasal-500 microns, r = -0.287, P = 0.005; nasal-1500 microns, r = -0.245, P = 0.016; and temporal-1500 microns, r = -0.280, P = 0.06). CONCLUSIONS Patients with iron-deficiency anemia had a significantly reduced choroidal thickness.
