Abstract
BACKGROUND Whether gastrointestinal hormones in patients with postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) are altered by acupuncture, and whether such alterations are related to the autonomic nervous system (ANS), remains an open question. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the effects of acupuncture on symptoms, serum hormones, and ANS in PDS patients. METHODS This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine affiliated with Capital Medical University. Sixty-two PDS patients were randomly assigned equally to acupuncture or sham acupuncture arm (3 sessions per week for 4-week). The main outcome measures which were evaluated at baseline and 4-week included cardinal symptoms, serum hormones including ghrelin, vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), substance P (SP), and ANS. RESULTS Among the 62 randomly assigned participants, 51 (82%) were included in the baseline characteristics and outcome analysis. Gastrointestinal symptoms including response rate (p = 0.001) and dyspepsia symptom severity (p = 0.002) were significantly improved after acupuncture treatment. Serum ghrelin concentration was significantly higher in acupuncture group than in sham acupuncture group (8.34 ± 3.00 ng/ml versus 6.52 ± 2.00 ng/ml, p = 0.022) after 4-week treatment, instead of VIP and SP (p > 0.05). The acupuncture group had significantly higher vagal activity, showing with increasing of high-frequency component (HF, p ≤ 0.001) and decreasing of the ratio of low-frequency and HF (p ≤ 0.001). In relationship analysis, the HF component exhibited a significant inverse correlation with symptom severity (R = - 0.501, p ≤ 0.001), but not with ghrelin level (R = 0.026, p = 0.865). CONCLUSION Acupuncture may improve the symptoms and increase the ghrelin level of PDS patients, the therapeutic effect of acupuncture was associated with the alteration of vagal activity. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Gastrointestinal motility disorders are highly prevalent without satisfactory treatment. noninvasive electrical neuromodulation is an emerging therapy for treating various gastrointestinal motility disorders. AREAS COVERED In this review, several emerging noninvasive neuromodulation methods are introduced, including transcutaneous auricular vagal nerve stimulation, percutaneous auricular vagal nerve stimulation, transcutaneous cervical vagal nerve stimulation, transcutaneous electrical acustimulation, transabdominal interference stimulation, tibial nerve stimulation, and translumbosacral neuromodulation therapy. Their clinical applications in the most common gastrointestinal motility are discussed, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional dyspepsia, gastroparesis, functional constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and fecal incontinence. PubMed database was searched from 1995 to June 2023 for relevant articles in English. EXPERT OPINION Noninvasive neuromodulation is effective and safe in improving both gastrointestinal symptoms and dysmotility; it can be used when pharmacotherapy is ineffective. Future directions include refining the methodology, improving device development and understanding mechanisms of action.

Abstract
Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) disease affect a large global population and incur substantial health care costs. Impairment in gut-brain communication is one of the main causes of these disorders. The central nervous system (CNS) provides its inputs to the enteric nervous system (ENS) by modulating the autonomic nervous system (ANS) to control the gastrointestinal functions. Therefore, GERD and FGID's might be associated with autonomic dysfunction, which can be identified via heart rate variability (HRV). FGIDs may be treated by restoring the autonomic dysfunction via neuromodulation. This article reviews the roles of HRV in the assessment of autonomic function and dysfunction in (i) gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), and the following FGIDs: (ii) functional dyspepsia (FD) and gastroparesis, (iii) irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and (iv) constipation. The roles of HRV in the assessment of autonomic responses to various interventions were also reviewed. We used PUBMED, Web of Science, Elsevier/Science direct and Scopus to search the eligible studies for each disorder, which also included the keyword 'heart rate variability'. The retrieved studies were screened and filtered to identify the most suitable studies using HRV parameters to associate the autonomic function with any of the above disorders. Studies involving both human and animal models were included. Based on analyses of HRV, GERD as well as the FGIDs were found to be associated with decreased parasympathetic activity and increased sympathetic nervous system activity with the autonomic balance shifted towards the sympathetic nervous system. In addition, the HRV methods were also reported to be able to assess the autonomic responses to various interventions (mostly neuromodulation), typically the enhancement of parasympathetic activity. In summary, GERD and FGIDs are associated with impaired autonomic dysfunction, mainly due to suppressed vagal and overactive sympathetic tone, which can be assessed noninvasively using HRV.

Abstract
Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common disorder of gut-brain interaction, affecting approximately 7% of individuals in the community, with most patients managed in primary care. The last British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) guideline for the management of dyspepsia was published in 1996. In the interim, substantial advances have been made in understanding the complex pathophysiology of FD, and there has been a considerable amount of new evidence published concerning its diagnosis and classification, with the advent of the Rome IV criteria, and management. The primary aim of this guideline, commissioned by the BSG, is to review and summarise the current evidence to inform and guide clinical practice, by providing a practical framework for evidence-based diagnosis and treatment of patients. The approach to investigating the patient presenting with dyspepsia is discussed, and efficacy of drugs in FD summarised based on evidence derived from a comprehensive search of the medical literature, which was used to inform an update of a series of pairwise and network meta-analyses. Specific recommendations have been made according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. These provide both the strength of the recommendations and the overall quality of evidence. Finally, in this guideline, we consider novel treatments that are in development, as well as highlighting areas of unmet need and priorities for future research.

Abstract
The vagus nerve is crucial in the bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain. It is involved in the modulation of a variety of gut and brain functions. Human studies indicate that the descending vagal signaling from the brain is impaired in functional dyspepsia. Growing evidence indicate that the vagal signaling from gut to brain may also be altered, due to the alteration of a variety of gut signals identified in this disorder. The pathophysiological roles of vagal signaling in functional dyspepsia is still largely unknown, although some studies suggested it may contribute to reduced food intake and gastric motility, increased psychological disorders and pain sensation, nausea and vomiting. Understanding the alteration in vagal signaling and its pathophysiological roles in functional dyspepsia may provide information for new potential therapeutic treatments of this disorder. In this review, we summarize and speculate possible alterations in vagal gut-to-brain and brain-to-gut signaling and the potential pathophysiological roles in functional dyspepsia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional dyspepsia (FD) is one of the most common conditions in clinical practice. In spite of its prevalence, FD is associated with major uncertainties in terms of its definition, underlying pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. METHODS A Delphi consensus was initiated with 41 experts from 22 European countries who conducted a literature summary and voting process on 87 statements. Quality of evidence was evaluated using the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluation (GRADE) criteria. Consensus (defined as >80% agreement) was reached for 36 statements. RESULTS The panel agreed with the definition in terms of its cardinal symptoms (early satiation, postprandial fullness, epigastric pain, and epigastric burning), its subdivision into epigastric pain syndrome and postprandial distress syndrome, and the presence of accessory symptoms (upper abdominal bloating, nausea, belching), and overlapping conditions. Also, well accepted are the female predominance of FD, its impact on quality of life and health costs, and acute gastrointestinal infections, and anxiety as risk factors. In terms of pathophysiological mechanisms, the consensus supports a role for impaired gastric accommodation, delayed gastric emptying, hypersensitivity to gastric distention, Helicobacter pylori infection, and altered central processing of signals from the gastroduodenal region. There is consensus that endoscopy is mandatory for establishing a firm diagnosis of FD, but that in primary care, patients without alarm symptoms or risk factors can be managed without endoscopy. There is consensus that H. pylori status should be determined in every patient with dyspeptic symptoms and H. pylori positive patients should receive eradication therapy. Also, proton pump inhibitor therapy is considered an effective therapy for FD, but no other treatment approach reached a consensus. The long-term prognosis and life expectancy are favorable. CONCLUSIONS AND INFERENCES A multinational group of European experts summarized the current state of consensus on the definition, diagnosis and management of FD.

Integrative Effects and Vagal Mechanisms of Transcutaneous Electrical Acustimulation on Gastroesophageal Motility in Patients With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Impaired esophageal and gastric motilities are known to contribute to symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, there is a lack of GERD therapy, targeting both gastric and esophageal functions. This study was designed to investigate the effects of transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) on symptoms of GERD and gastroesophageal functions and possible mechanisms in patients with GERD. METHODS Thirty patients with GERD with ineffective esophageal motility were equally divided and randomized into a 4-week sham-TEA or 4-week TEA treatment. The GERD questionnaire (GerdQ), GERD health-related quality-of-life questionnaire, high-resolution esophageal manometry, a nutrient drink test, the electrogastrogram, and ECG were performed to assess the severity of reflux symptoms, low esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure, distal contractile integral (DCI), gastric accommodation, gastric slow waves (GSW), and autonomic functions, respectively. RESULTS Compared with sham-TEA, the 4-week TEA treatment significantly decreased the GerdQ score (P = 0.011) and GERD health-related quality of life (P = 0.028) and improved nutrient drink-induced fullness (P < 0.001) and belching (P < 0.001) in patients with GERD. Although only acute TEA significantly enhanced LES pressure (P < 0.05), both acute and chronic TEA remarkedly increased DCI (P < 0.05) and reduced the incidence of ineffective esophageal contractions during wet swallows (P = 0.02). In addition, chronic TEA significantly increased gastric accommodation and the percentage of postprandial normal GSW compared with sham-TEA and baseline. Concurrently, TEA-enhanced vagal activity (P = 0.02) and the vagal activity positively correlated with LES pressure (r = 0.528; P = 0.003) and DCI (r = 0.522; P = 0.003). DISCUSSION The TEA treatment performed in this study improves reflux-related symptoms, increases DCI, reduces the incidence of ineffective esophageal contractions during wet swallows, and improves gastric accommodation and slow waves. The improvement in GERD symptoms might be attributed to the integrative effects of TEA on these gastroesophageal functions mediated via the vagal mechanism.

Abstract
Background Functional dyspepsia (FD) is one of the most common conditions in clinical practice. In spite of its prevalence, FD is associated with major uncertainties in terms of its definition, underlying pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Methods A Delphi consensus was initiated with 41 experts from 22 European countries who conducted a literature summary and voting process on 87 statements. Quality of evidence was evaluated using the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluation (GRADE) criteria. Consensus (defined as >80% agreement) was reached for 36 statements. Results The panel agreed with the definition in terms of its cardinal symptoms (early satiation, postprandial fullness, epigastric pain, and epigastric burning), its subdivision into epigastric pain syndrome and postprandial distress syndrome, and the presence of accessory symptoms (upper abdominal bloating, nausea, belching), and overlapping conditions. Also, well accepted are the female predominance of FD, its impact on quality of life and health costs, and acute gastrointestinal infections, and anxiety as risk factors. In terms of pathophysiological mechanisms, the consensus supports a role for impaired gastric accommodation, delayed gastric emptying, hypersensitivity to gastric distention, Helicobacter pylori infection, and altered central processing of signals from the gastroduodenal region. There is consensus that endoscopy is mandatory for establishing a firm diagnosis of FD, but that in primary care, patients without alarm symptoms or risk factors can be managed without endoscopy. There is consensus that H. pylori status should be determined in every patient with dyspeptic symptoms and H. pylori positive patients should receive eradication therapy. Also, proton pump inhibitor therapy is considered an effective therapy for FD, but no other treatment approach reached a consensus. The long‐term prognosis and life expectancy are favorable. Conclusions and Inferences A multinational group of European experts summarized the current state of consensus on the definition, diagnosis and management of FD.

Functional dyspepsia is one of the most common conditions encountered in clinical practice. There is a lack of guidance for clinicians in guiding diagnosis and treatment of this prevalent condition. No treatments are currently approved for the treatment of functional dyspepsia in Europe.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fructus aurantii is a flavonoid derived from Citrus aurantium (bitter orange) that is used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to treat gastric motility disorders. This study aimed to investigate the effects of low-dose and high-dose decoctions of Fructus aurantii in a rat model of functional dyspepsia (FD). MATERIAL AND METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats (n=90) were divided into nine study groups: the control group, the FD model group, the domperidone-treated (Domp) group, the low-dose raw Fructus aurantii (FA-L) group, the high-dose raw Fructus aurantii (FA-H) group, the low-dose Fructus aurantii with stir-fried wheat bran (Bran-L) group, the high-dose Fructus aurantii with stir-fried wheat bran (Bran-H) group, the low-dose Fructus aurantii with stir-fried wheat bran and honey (Honey-L) group, and the high-dose Fructus aurantii with stir-fried wheat bran and honey (Honey-H) group. The FD rat model was established by semi-starvation, followed by tail damping, stimulation, and forced exercise with fatigue. Change in weight, rate of gastric emptying and intestinal propulsion, and serum levels of leptin, motilin, vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), gastrin, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), ghrelin, and cholecystokinin were compared between the groups. RESULTS In the FD model group, weight, rate of gastric emptying and intestinal propulsion significantly decreased, the expression of leptin, VIP and CGRP increased, and expression of motilin, gastrin, ghrelin, and cholecystokinin significantly decreased. Treatment with low-dose Fructus aurantii with stir-fried wheat bran significantly reversed these effects. CONCLUSIONS In the rat model of FD, low-dose Fructus aurantii with stir-fried wheat bran increased gastrointestinal motility and gastrointestinal hormone levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Meal-related symptoms are common in paediatric functional dyspepsia (FD). There are only a small number of paediatric studies assessing mechanisms for meal-related symptoms, and these have not utilized Rome IV criteria. The aim of the current study was to assess gastric myoelectric and autonomic nervous system (ANS) responses to both liquid and solid meals in youth with Rome IV-defined FD. METHODS In healthy controls (N = 14) and youth with FD (N = 12), we recorded electrocardiograph (to assess heart rate variability; HRV) and electrogastrograph (EGG) signals before and after two test meals, one liquid and one solid. EGG parameters and HRV were assessed for the entire pre- and postprandial periods and in short time intervals. Additionally, liquid gastric emptying was assessed utilizing a 13 C-acetate breath test. KEY RESULTS During the EGG, the dominant power increased with both meals in controls but not patients with FD. During HRV assessment, the low frequency to high frequency ratio was higher after the liquid meal in controls, despite being similar preprandial, as compared to patients with FD. In controls, both standard deviation of normal to normal waves (SDNN) and root mean square of successive ECG R peaks (R-R interval) differences (rMSSD) increased after the liquid meal (but not after the solid meal) in controls but not patients with FD. CONCLUSIONS AND INFERENCES Youth with Rome IV-defined FD lacks the normal postprandial EGG dominant power response or autonomic nervous system response following a liquid meal. The latter appears to indicate a lack of ANS flexibility.

Abstract
Background/Aims Gastroparesis is commonly seen in patients with diabetes and functional dyspepsia with no satisfactory therapies. Dysautonomia is one of the main reasons for the imbalanced motility. We hypothesized that spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a viable therapy for gastroparesis via the autonomic modulation to improve gastric motility. The aim is to find an optimal method of SCS for treating gastroparesis. Methods Eight healthy-female dogs were implanted with a gastric cannula, a duodenal cannula, 2 multi-electrode spinal leads, and an implantable pulse generator. Gastric motility index (MI) was used to determine the best stimulation location/parameters of SCS. Optimized SCS was used to improve glucagon-induced gastroparesis. Results With fixed parameters, SCS at Thoracic 10 (T10) was found most effective for increasing gastric MI (37.8%, P = 0.013). SCS was optimized with different parameters (pulse width: 0.05–0.6 msec, frequency: 5–500 Hz, motor threshold: 30–90%) on T10. Our findings revealed that 0.5 msec, 20 Hz with 90% motor threshold at T10 were the best parameters in increasing MI. Glucagon significantly delayed gastric emptying, and this inhibitory effect was partially blocked by SCS. Gastric emptying at 120 minutes was 25.6% in the control session and 15.7% in glucagon session (P = 0.007 vs control), while it was 22.9% with SCS session (P = 0.041 vs glucagon). SCS with the optimal parameters was found to maximally enhance vagal activity and inhibit sympathetic activity assessed by the spectral analysis of heart rate variability. Conclusions SCS with optimized stimulation location and parameters improves gastric motility in healthy-dogs and accelerates gastric emptying impaired by glucagon via enhancing vagal activity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Gastric dysmotility is one of pathophysiologies of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) on gastric accommodation and gastric slow waves, and evaluate possible mechanisms in patients with GERD. METHODS Thirty patients were studied in two randomized sessions of sham-TEA and TEA with the measurements of esophageal high-resolution manometry (HRM), gastric accommodation assessed by a nutrient-drinking test, electrogastrogram (EGG), electrocardiogram (ECG), and postprandial dyspeptic symptoms. RESULTS Compared with sham-TEA, TEA improved nutrient drinking-induced fullness (42.0 ± 3.3 vs. 31.0 ± 3.5, P = 0.003) at 10 min after the drink, and belching right after the drink (22.0 ± 4.6 vs. 11.7 ± 3.1, P = 0.012) and at 10 min (16.0 ± 3.8 vs. 3.0 ± 1.5, P = 0.002) after the drink. TEA also improved gastric accommodation (954 ± 37 mL vs. 857 ± 47 mL, P = 0.001) and normalized maximal drink-induced impairment in gastric slow waves. Concurrently, TEA enhanced vagal activity assessed from spectral analysis of heart rate variability in the postprandial state (0.42 ± 0.03 vs. 0.49 ± 0.04, P = 0.039). The vagal activity was positively correlated with the percentage of normal slow waves (r = 0.528; P = 0.003) and negatively correlated with the regurgitation score (r = -0.408, P = 0.025). CONCLUSIONS Acute TEA increases gastric accommodation, improves gastric slow waves, and reduces postprandial fullness and belching, possibly mediated via the vagal mechanisms.

Abstract
Functional gastrointestinal disorders, including delayed gastric emptying and decreased gastric motility, are more prevalent in women, suggesting a potential role for circulating gonadal hormones, including estrogen. Gastric motility is tuned by the vagal inputs arising from the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV), which is itself controlled by tonic GABAergic inputs. Estrogen increases GABA functions in various central nervous system areas; however, the effect of the estrus cycle in modulating GABAergic inputs onto DMV neurons, hence vagal control of gastric motility, has not been investigated. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that GABAergic tone to DMV neurons, hence the vagal output to the stomach, varies according to sex and the estrus cycle. Experiments were performed on age-matched Sprague-Dawley male and virgin female rats; females were subdivided according to the high-estrogen (HE) or low-estrogen (LE) period of their cycle. Whole-cell patch-clamp recordings were made from gastric-projecting DMV neurons, and the response to perfusion with the GABAA receptor antagonist bicuculline was examined. The response of corpus and antrum tone and motility to bicuculline microinjected in the dorsal vagal complex, recorded via strain gauges sewn to the anterior gastric surface, was also assessed. Bicuculline increased the firing rate of DMV neurons, as well as gastric tone and motility, to a larger extent in HE compared with LE or male rats, suggesting a higher GABAergic tone in HE female rats. Taken together, the data support the hypothesis that GABAergic tone to DMV neurons varies according to sex and estrus cycle.NEW & NOTEWORTHY GABAergic neurotransmission to the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV) plays a pivotal role in the modulation of gastric tone and motility. Gastric motility is reduced in women and may contribute to the higher incidence of functional gastrointestinal disorders. In the present study, we report that GABAergic tone to rat DMV neurons, hence vagal output to the stomach, varies according to sex and estrus cycle, and the GABAergic tone is increased during the high-estrogen period of the estrus cycle.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Water balance influences gastrointestinal (GI) activity. Our aim was to evaluate how dehydration and rehydration with different types of water are able to affect GI activity in healthy and dyspeptic athletes. METHODS Twenty non-competitive athletes, respectively 10 healthy and 10 dyspeptic subjects, were enrolled. All subjects underwent three test sessions (0, A, B) of 6 hours. Dehydration was achieved with a walking/jogging exercise test on a treadmill. After exercising, 500 mL of calcium-bicarbonate (Test A) or soft water (Test B) were administered, while no rehydration was provided during Test 0; thereafter, all subjects consumed a light lunch. GI symptoms were evaluated during each test and an electrocardiogram (ECG) Holter recording was performed at the end of the exercise. KEY RESULTS Dyspeptic subjects exhibited higher overall symptoms during Test 0 (VAS: 30.8 ± 0.8 mm) compared to Test A (18.4 ± 1.1, P < 0.001) and Test B (24.4 ± 1.3, P < 0.001). However, analyzing GI symptoms, only subjects receiving calcium-bicarbonate water (Test A) showed significantly lower symptomatic scores compared to Test 0 or Test B. Moreover, heart rate variability analyses revealed that only in Test A dyspeptic patients exhibit a trend to a decrease in the post-prandial low/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio, similarly to healthy subjects, while in Test 0 and Test B, post-prandial LF/HF ratio was increased compared to the pre-prandial phase. CONCLUSIONS AND INFERENCES Our results show that mild dehydration in dyspeptic athletes is able to increase GI symptoms but an adequate rehydration, with calcium-bicarbonate water, is able to improve post-exercise disturbances restoring sympathovagal imbalance.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review summarizes recent progress in the epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment of gastroduodenal motility disorders with an emphasis on functional dyspepsia and gastroparesis. RECENT FINDINGS Pathophysiological research has focused on the association of delayed emptying and impaired accommodation with symptom pattern. Studies also confirmed the presence of altered mucosal integrity and low-grade immune activation in the duodenum in functional dyspepsia, while changes in numbers of interstitial cells of Cajal and myenteric neurons were confirmed in gastroparesis. Treatment advances in gastroparesis include new prokinetics such as the ghrelin receptor agonist relamorelin and the antiemetic agent aprepitant. The efficacy and use of neuromodulators were reviewed and new management guidelines for functional dyspepsia were published. SUMMARY Pathophysiological research has focused on cellular changes in gastroparesis and gastroduodenal motility disorders. New treatments include relamorelin and aprepitant for gastroparesis.

Abstract
Background: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common upper gastrointestinal disorder worldwide, but the current treatments for FD are still unsatisfactory. The aims of this study were to investigate the efficacy and safety of Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules in patients with postprandial distress syndrome (PDS)-predominant FD. Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized, double-blinded, multicenter, placebo-controlled design in 197 patients with PDS. All participants received placebo treatment for 1 week. Patients whose total symptom score decreased by <50% after the placebo treatment were recruited into the 4-week treatment period, in which they were randomly assigned to be treated with either Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules or placebo. The patients were then followed for 2 weeks without any treatment. Dyspeptic symptoms were scored at weeks 2 and 4 during the random treatment period and 2 weeks after the treatment. Anxiety and depression symptoms were also scored and compared. Results: (1) The total effective rates in the Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules group at weeks 2 and 4 during the random treatment period and 2 weeks after treatment were all significantly higher than those in the placebo group (38.82% vs. 8.75%, P < 0.001; 69.14% vs. 16.25%, P < 0.001; 77.65% vs. 21.25%, P < 0.001). (2) The total dyspeptic symptoms scores in the Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules group at weeks 2 and 4 and 2 weeks after treatment were significantly lower than those in the placebo group. (3) The severity and frequency of each dyspeptic symptom at weeks 2 and 4 and the follow-up period were all significantly lower than those in the placebo group. (4) The anxiety scores in the Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules group were significantly lower than those in the placebo group. (5) Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules did not have more adverse effects than the placebo. Conclusion: Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules offer significant symptomatic improvement in PDS with no more adverse effects than placebo. Trial Registration: https://clinicaltrials.gov/, NCT02460601.
