Synchronous Diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma, Breast Cancer, and Monoclonal B-Cell Lymphocytosis on Initial Presentation

The cooccurrence of more than one oncologic illness in a patient can present a diagnostic challenge. Here we report an unusual case of concomitant existence of multiple myeloma, breast cancer, and monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis on initial presentation. The challenge was to accurately diagnose each disease and stage in order to maximize the therapeutic regimen to achieve cure/remission. Successful management of the patient and increased life expectancy can be achieved by multidisciplinary management and patient-oriented approach in multiple primary malignant synchronous tumors.

Morphologic Mimics of Invasive Lobular Carcinoma

Invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast is a relatively common diagnosis. However, other carcinomatous as well as noncarcinomatous neoplasms, either primary or metastatic to the breast, may mimic invasive lobular carcinoma. As treatment may differ, establishing the correct diagnosis is paramount to providing the appropriate care for these patients. This review outlines important mimics of invasive lobular carcinoma and the key clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features as well as additional studies helpful in establishing their diagnoses.

Plasmacytoma in the breast with axillary lymph node involvement: a case report

Plasmacytic tumors in the breast are extremely rare neoplasms that can mimic mammary adenocarcima. A literature review revealed approximately 43 reports worldwide of plasmacytic tumors in the breast since 1928, the majority with a synchronous diagnosis of multiple myeloma. We discuss management of a 78-year-old man with plasmacytoma in the breast who underwent a left total mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection. This report characterizes the histologic and immunochemical characteristics of plasmacytoma in the breast and reviews the consensus on treatment. This could be the first recorded account of plasmacytomas in the breast with axillary lymph node involvement and extracapsular extension of tumor.

Breast plasmacytoma

An unusual case of breast plasmacytoma associated with a multiple myeloma is reported. Breast plasmacytoma is exceedingly rare. We identified 37 cases published between 1928 and 1999, and reviewed the clinical features of this unusual presentation of plasmacytoma.
