Effects of governmental supportive policies on waste management for two substitutable products made of virgin and waste materials: A game-theoretic approach

In recent years, the concept of sustainability has attracted a great amount of attention, due to increasing energy resources scarceness. Waste recycling is known as an efficient approach to improve sustainability and save energy. In this view, a sustainable supply chain is established in the current study to investigate the effects of waste recycling on sustainable development. The considered supply chain consists of the government, two manufacturers, a supplier, a waste depot, and a recycler. Under this structure, two substitutable products are made of the virgin and recyclable waste materials. The supplier provides the virgin materials for the first product. The waste depot collects the non-recycled waste, whereas the recycler recycles it and supplies the recycled waste for the second product. Also, the government supports the second product to provide an incentive for its members to collect and recycle more waste. Then, the game theory is applied to make decisions under the considered structure. Finally, the results are revealed and some managerial insights are provided. It is derived that the governmental supportive policies play a significant role in resources conservation and energy storage. Moreover, increasing the quality of the product made of the recyclable waste improves the government's utility.

Digital transformation, productive services agglomeration and innovation performance

Innovation is a necessary guarantee for sustainable development. Stepping into the digital age, digital transformation has triggered the innovation revolution. This paper takes 30 provinces in China from 2012 to 2022 as the research sample, we verify whether digital transformation has improved innovation performance. Based on the Solow growth model and agglomeration economics theory, we also explore the moderating role and threshold effect of agglomeration in productive service industry between digital transformation and innovation performance. To achieve this, we apply the methods of machine learning and text analysis to construct an evaluation index of regional digital transformation and measure it. The paper finds that China's digital transformation index is increasing, but there is a digital divide between regions. We also determine that digital transformation significantly and positively contributes to the level of innovation performance. Considering the threshold effect of agglomeration in productive service industry, the impact of digital transformation on innovation performance exhibits non-linear characteristics, As the level of agglomeration continues to exceed the threshold, the innovation-driven effect of digital transformation increases. The research results help clarify the relationship between digital transformation and innovation performance, and provide favorable policy directions for regional governments to identify digital divides and make reasonable industrial layouts. Thus, it can promote the construction of digital China and innovation power, injecting strong innovation force into the realization of SDGs.

The development of an integrated BIM-based visual demolition waste management planning system for sustainability-oriented decision-making

In light of the suboptimal resource efficiency persisting in current demolition waste management (DWM) practices caused by inattentive and profit-driven decision-making due to the lack of tailored stringent legislation, monetary incentives, and benchmarking frameworks, this study aims to facilitate sustainability-oriented decision-making at the demolition planning stage. A practical Building Information Modelling (BIM)-based visual DWM planning system is designed, wherein the system seamlessly accommodates inventory analysis and Multi-Criteria Decision-Aiding (MCDA) algorithms into various interconnected modules. Moreover, this research proposes bespoke algorithms and colour coding schemes to quantify and visualise the recycling value of building components for augmenting the visual guidance of sustainable building design and selective demolition planning. Furthermore, a pilot case study demonstrates the system's applicability in a real-world demolition project. The findings unveil that improving the recycling rate substantially offsets carbon emissions and demolition waste disposal expenditures. The increment in beneficial impacts outweighs the additional energy consumption and costs for implementing sustainable DWM strategies based on the predefined geographical settings. This BIM-based system reforms the conventional demolition planning and DWM decision-making workflow by tackling technical barriers concerning data richness, interoperability, and result interpretation. It equips the users with intuitive visual design guidance and parallel scenario analysis when crafting sustainability-oriented DWM schemes. In summary, this research contributes to familiarising industry practitioners with sustainable DWM schematic design and circular economy principles. Moreover, it prompts the development of customised BIM libraries as repositories for updating and capitalising on DWM-related information that can be adapted to different regional contexts.

How to promote knowledge transfer within R&D team? An evolutionary game based on prospect theory

Knowledge transfer is the basis for R&D teams and enterprises to improve innovation performance, win market competition and seek sustainable development. In order to explore the path to promote knowledge transfer within the R&D team, this study considers the bounded rationality and risk preference of individuals, incorporates prospect theory into evolutionary game, constructs a perceived benefits matrix distinct from the traditional benefits matrix, and simulates the evolutionary game process. The results show that, R&D personnel's knowledge transfer decisions depend on the net income difference among strategies; only if perceived cost is less than the sum of perceived synergy benefit, perceived organization reward value, and perceived organization punishment value, can knowledge be fully shared and transferred within the R&D team. Moreover, R&D personnel's knowledge transfer decisions are interfered by the irrational psychological factors, including overconfidence, reflection, loss avoidance, and obsession with small probability events. The findings help R&D teams achieve breakthroughs in improving the efficiency of knowledge transfer, thereby enhancing the capacity of enterprises for collaborative innovation.
