Abstract
An integral part of understanding and then designing programs to reduce childhood cancer inequities includes adequate representation of people with cancer in research, including children. A scoping review was carried out to understand how cancer research is oriented toward inequities and to identify who has participated in childhood qualitative cancer research. A systematic search identified 119 qualitative studies that met inclusion criteria, with most studies taking place in high-income countries (n=84). Overall, data were lacking on social determinants of health at multiple levels-structural, household, child, and guardian. Only 29 studies reported on race and/or ethnicity, with the majority of those including predominantly or all white children. Six articles included socioeconomic information, and across most articles, attention was absent to the financial ramifications of cancer care. Limited reporting of sociodemographics highlights a broader issue of neglecting key demographics and social factors that contribute to inequities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Undergraduate nursing students may access support from peers after having experienced critical incidents during experiential learning opportunities. While researchers have addressed peer support relative to academic or day-to-day stress in undergraduate nursing students, there is a paucity of data on the context of clinical related critical incidents. OBJECTIVE To better understand undergraduate nursing students' experiences of using peer support after clinical related critical incidents. DESIGN Experiential learning places undergraduate nursing students at risk of encountering critical incidents. Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics was the research approach used to explore the meaning of peer support accessed by undergraduate nursing students who had experienced clinical related critical incidents. SETTING Participants were recruited from a Canadian university. PARTICIPANTS A purposive sample was used to recruit nine students who were enrolled in a baccalaureate nursing program. Data collection involved conducting semi-structured interviews over 12 months in 2021-2022. METHOD The interviews with participants were recorded and transcribed and the data was analyzed using the interpretive method of hermeneutics. RESULTS Findings from this research revealed that peer support was an effective informal method of providing immediate assistance to undergraduate nursing students. Inherent in this support was a safe space where students experienced a sense of belonging which normalized the incident and minimized isolation. Support was perceived by some participants as reciprocal as both the traumatized individual and the peer supporter benefited from the organic connection. CONCLUSIONS This study highlighted the importance of nurturing a psychologically safe clinical learning environment where students who experience critical incidents may seek timely support from peers and clinical instructors.

Abstract
PURPOSE We sought to understand: families' experience of an overnight pediatric oncology camp open to children with cancer and their siblings aged seven to seventeen (Camp Delight); the considerations that factor into families' decision to attend camp for the first time; and what motivates them to reattend. METHOD Eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted with families who attended Camp Delight during or before August 2020. Thematic analysis was performed using a framework developed by four coders and MaxQDA software. RESULT Six overarching themes were compiled: precipitating experiences, barriers to attending camp, facilitating factors, benefits of camp, pro-return factors, and activities to improve transitioning to camp and reduce uncertainty. CONCLUSION Child and parent hesitancy, travel cost, and distance to camp represent barriers to attendance. Organizers may mitigate these barriers by partnering with trusted health professionals, communicating safeness and benefits of camps, including siblings, implementing strategies for reducing uncertainty, and increasing accessibility.

Abstract
Self-management education programs have been highly successful in preparing people to manage medical conditions with recurring events. A detailed curriculum for epilepsy patients, and their caretakers, is lacking. Here we assess what is available for patients who have disorders with recurring events and offer an approach to developing a potential self-care curriculum for patients with seizures and their caregivers. Among the anticipated components are a baseline efficacy assessment and training tailored to increasing self-efficacy, medication compliance, and stress management. Those at risk of status epilepticus will also need guidance in preparing a personalized seizure action plan and training in how to decide when rescue medication is appropriate and how to administer the therapy. Peers, as well as professionals, could teach and provide support. To our knowledge, no such programs are currently available in English. We encourage their creation, dissemination, and widespread use.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to reach a consensus on a set of proposals to optimise the disease management of Multiple myeloma (MM) within the Spanish National Health System (SNHS) and to apply the Social Return on Investment (SROI) method to estimate their social impact. METHODS A Multidisciplinary Working Team (MWT) including MM main stakeholders was organised. A survey was administered to gather information from patients regarding the impact of MM on different life domains. A forecast-type SROI analysis, with a 1-year timeframe, was applied. RESULTS Fifteen proposals were selected, to optimise MM management, including actions for early diagnosis, psychological support, improvement of information for patients and quick access to palliative care, among others. The implementation of these proposals would benefit patients, their informal caregivers and the SNHS. The investment required would amount to 10.32 million euros with a social return of 43.31 million euros: 4.2 euros for each euro invested. According to the sensitivity analysis, this ratio could range from 3.38 to 5.20 euros from the worst to the best-case scenario. CONCLUSIONS The current management of MM could be optimised by implementing a set of proposals that would most likely result in an overall positive social return.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Haemophilia A (HA) has been associated with poor health-related quality of life and a large economic burden, accentuated by severity, arthropathy, and inhibitors. To meet global standards of care, the management of HA should align with the principles of care outlined by the World Federation of Haemophilia. The aims of the present study were to establish a set of proposals to improve HA management within the Spanish National Health System (SNHS) and to estimate the impact its hypothetical implementation would generate from a clinical, healthcare, economic, and social perspective. METHODS A multidisciplinary group of experts agreed on a set of 15 proposals to improve HA management within the SNHS. Thereafter, a forecast-type Social Return on Investment analysis was carried out to estimate the impact of implementing this set of proposals within the SNHS over a one-year timeframe, in relation to the required investment. RESULTS This study estimated that the implementation of the complete set of 15 proposals would require a total investment of 2.34 M€ and have a total impact of 14.60 M€. Accordingly, every euro invested in the complete set of 15 proposals would yield a social return of €6.23 (€3.37 in the worst-case scenario and €9.69 in the best-case scenario) of both tangible and intangible nature in similar proportions (45.71 and 54.29%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS These results can be used to inform policy and practice such that interventions that may potentially improve current public health challenges associated with the management of HA may be implemented.

Abstract
Background Childhood bereavement is common, and is associated with elevated symptoms of grief with distress and impairment. However, few developmentally appropriate interventions to support grieving children are available to date. In Toulouse, France we developed an innovative four-session group intervention to support grieving families and evaluated its feasibility and acceptability. Methods The workshop consists of four sessions over 4 months, open to children bereaved of a sibling or parent, and co-facilitated by two mental health professionals. After an intake assessment, children were placed into closed groups according to age and relation to the deceased. The session content was balanced between creative activities and grief-related discussions. Overall satisfaction was evaluated in March-April of 2020 by an 8-question online survey of children and parents having participated between 2011 and 2019. Freeform commentaries were analysed using the thematic synthesis process. Results Of the 230 emails sent in March 2020, 46 children and 81 parents agreed to participate (55% response rate). The families reported an overall high level of satisfaction regarding the intervention that was rated as good to excellent. A majority of respondents considered their participation in the workshop helpful and in accordance with their expectations. Most would recommend the workshop to a friend, and would participate again in the group if needed. The group intervention helped reduce social isolation, facilitated grief expression, and supported the creation of a sense of community among bereaved families. Conclusions Encouraging community and mutual support among grieving families is fundamental in bereavement care. Our four-session workshop held over 4 months and led by mental health professionals aimed to help reduce social isolation and foster coping skills through artistic creation and group discussion. Our results highlight the potential need for family bereavement support over a longer period and a provision of a variety of services. Our intervention model is feasible for families, and further studies examining its efficacy are warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Camps for children with cancer and their families aim to promote positive psychosocial and physical outcomes for attendees. However, evidence for this is inconsistent, and previous reviews have not delineated between camps for children (patient/survivors and siblings) and family camps (including parents/guardians). Such understanding is necessary to understand the evidence-based benefits of each type of camp. Our systematic review summarizes the findings and limitations of the recent literature for children's camps and family camps. METHODS We searched MEDLINE/PubMed, PsycINFO, Social Work Abstracts, and Google Scholar for relevant articles published between 2013 and 2018. RESULTS Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol, we included 19 articles (from 15 studies) in the review. Evidence for the impact of camps was mixed. All articles reported positive outcomes, yet 3 quantitative articles also reported nonsignificant changes. Camps for children (representing 2151 children with cancer/survivors) appeared to facilitate social skills, self-esteem, and physical activity. Family camps (representing 96 families) may provide families the opportunity to reconnect. Both types of camp provide attendees with social support and fun/respite. In 2 qualitative articles, some parents attending family camps reported tension between families of children on treatment and bereaved families. The literature is limited by small sample sizes and the lack of multisite, longitudinal, and controlled study designs. CONCLUSION The recent literature provides evidence for some positive, short-term psychosocial and physical outcomes of camps. Future research should use rigorous quasiexperimental designs and should assess the long-term impact of camp attendance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Childhood bereavement after sibling death is common, but often unrecognized. The psychosomatic and socioeconomic outcomes of bereaved children can be compromised if appropriate care is unavailable during the formative years leading into adulthood. AIM This review aims to describe the methods, structures and procedures of bereavement care for children and adolescents after the loss of a sibling, and the impact on the families benefiting from these interventions. DESIGN A systematic review without restriction on study design was conducted. DATA SOURCES Four databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Cochrane Library) were searched for articles published from 2000 to 2019. The search was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines and the protocol is registered on PROSPERO under number CRD42019124675. Articles were assessed against eligibility criteria by both authors, and quality was appraised using CASP checklists and NHMRC grading guidelines. RESULTS Twenty-three studies met inclusion criteria. Bereavement care was most often accessed by children ages 6-18 who lost a sibling to cancer 6-12 months prior. The interventions were typically group sessions or weekend camps, run predominantly by unpaid staff from a variety of backgrounds. Some staff members received priori specific training. Grief education is taught through mediated discussion and bereavement-centered activities balanced with playful and relaxed activities. Several services have effectuated evaluations of their interventions, and preliminary results show a positive effect for families. CONCLUSION Existing literature most likely gives an incomplete picture of appropriate childhood bereavement care, and many interventions possibly remain unpublished or published in other non-scientific sources. An effective response to childhood grief would involve collaboration between medical resources and community services, reinforced through the development of outreach and training programs.

Abstract
AIMS We aim to agree on a set of proposals to improve the current management of heart failure (HF) within the Spanish National Health System (SNHS) and apply the social return on investment (SROI) method to measure the social impact that these proposals would generate. METHODS AND RESULTS A multidisciplinary working team of 16 experts was set up, with representation from the main stakeholders regarding HF: medical specialists (cardiologists, internal medicine physicians, general practitioners, and geriatric physicians), nursing professionals, health management professionals, patients, and informal caregivers. This team established a set of proposals to improve the management of HF according to the main areas of HF care: emergency and hospitalization, primary care, cardiology, and internal medicine. A forecast-type SROI method, with a 1-year time frame, was applied to measure the social impact resulting from the implementation of these proposals. The required investment and social return were estimated and summarized into a ratio indicating how much social return could be generated for each euro invested. Intangible returns were included and quantified through financial proxies. The approach to improve the management of HF consisted of 28 proposals, including the implementation of a case management nurse network, standardization of operational protocols, psychological support, availability of echocardiography machines at emergency departments, stationary units and primary care, early specialist visits after hospital discharge, and cardiac rehabilitation units, among others. These proposals would benefit not only patients and their informal caregivers but also the SNHS. Regarding patients, proposals would increase their autonomy in everyday activities, decrease anxiety, increase psychological and physical well-being, improve pharmacological adherence and self-care, enhance understanding of the disease, delay disease progression, expedite medical assessment, and prevent the decrease in work productivity associated with HF management. Regarding informal caregivers, proposals would increase their quality of life; improve their social, economic, and emotional well-being; and reduce their care burden. The SNHS would benefit from shorter stays of HF patients at intensive care units and reduction of hospitalizations and admissions to emergency departments. The investment needed to implement these proposals would amount to €548m and yield a social return of €1932m, that is, €3.52 for each euro invested. CONCLUSIONS The current management of HF could be improved by a set of proposals that resulted in an overall positive social return, varying between areas of analysis. This may guide the allocation of healthcare resources and improve the quality of life of patients with HF.

Abstract
Objective: Pediatric oncology nurses can experience burnout, vicarious traumatization, and compassion fatigue related to the unique stressors of their profession. Opportunities to enhance nurses' professional commitment and nurse-patient connectedness may mitigate these stressors. This study explored the impact of volunteering at a local oncology camp on pediatric oncology nurses' professional quality of life and connectedness with their oncology patients. Method and Sample: Pediatric oncology nurses from a single institution were invited to participate in this mixed methods study. Participants completed a survey assessing professional quality of life, professional commitment, and patient connectedness. Nurses who had oncology camp volunteer experience were invited to participate in a qualitative interview. Results: Compared with noncamp nurses (n = 23), camp nurses (n = 25) had increased odds of a low burnout score (odds ratio = 6.74, 95% confidence interval [1.10, 41.43], p = .039) and increased odds of a high compassion satisfaction score (odds ratio = 4.69, 95% confidence interval [1.14, 19.32], p = .033). Qualitative interviews supported the impact of volunteering at camp on nurses' personal and professional perspective, nursing practice, and delivery of person-centered care. Conclusion: Volunteering at a pediatric oncology camp provided nurses the opportunity to engage with patients, share experiences, and view patients as individuals while still maintaining professional boundaries. Nurses who volunteer at camp described a perspective moving beyond patient-centered to person-centered care, and for some pediatric oncology nurses, camp volunteering may be a novel way to mitigate burnout and an important tool to enhance resiliency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although childhood cancer mortality rates are decreasing, intensive treatment modalities and missed school days may leave childhood cancer patients psychologically and socially vulnerable. Children with cancer often have increased anxiety, lower levels of self-esteem, and higher rates of depression, all of which may impair their psychosocial wellbeing. Specialized camps for children with cancer are becoming increasingly popular, as they provide a stress-free, outdoor environment in which children are able to interact with individuals similar to themselves, while experiencing the joys of a "normal childhood." OBJECTIVE The aim of this review was to explore how camp participation impacts the psychosocial wellbeing of childhood cancer patients and survivors. METHODS Six databases (MEDLINE, PsychINFO, EMBASE, CINHAL, Sociological Abstracts, Social Sciences Citation Index) were systematically searched for English literature published between 2007 and 2018. The search generated 1707 titles, and after being evaluated for relevance, 18 articles met the inclusion criteria. A thematic analysis was conducted. RESULTS A variety of camp programs and methodologies were employed among the studies. Camp participation led to improved social health, followed by enhanced constructions of the self, quality of life, sense of normalcy, and attitude. CONCLUSION This review demonstrates the potential ability of camp to buffer psychosocial losses for children affected by cancer. Addressing limitations, such as the lack of child-centered methodologies employed in camp settings, may not only help to guide future research on therapeutic recreation experiences for children with cancer, but also expand the evidence base for children living with other chronic illnesses and disabilities.

Abstract
Background Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) face unique problems that attendance at a camp with their peers is well suited to address. However, because the staff members at ordinary summer camps are not accustomed to accommodating children with chronic diseases, the potential for significant health consequences exists. Methods We searched the literature in PubMed and CINAHL using the keywords summer camp, camp, sickle, and anemia to identify the unique characteristics of camps for children with SCD and the recommendations for care and/or lessons learned. Results Published data are limited. Accommodations to avoid triggering sickle vaso-occlusive pain have been developed empirically and extrapolated from other settings. Camp experiences provide peer learning opportunities, positive role models, and a safe area to explore personal growth. The supportive atmosphere of the camp and escape from social stigma are welcome changes from the daily routine. Camp experiences can help with education on self-care and the transition from adolescent to adult healthcare. Conclusion Camp offers unique opportunities for care coordination. Camps for children with SCD provide a setting for dissemination of best practices for the disease. Community-based organizations should partner in recruiting young adults with SCD as counselors. Educational material now available could be modified for use in the camp setting. All stakeholders in the care of children with SCD should work in unison to ensure these children enjoy the benefits of summer camp.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine whether the methodology of social return on investment (SROI) could be a way in which the value of a healthcare-related program (children's cancer camp) could be captured, evaluated, and communicated. BACKGROUND The value of healthcare goes beyond what can be captured in financial terms; however, this is the most common type of value that is measured. The SROI methodology accounts for a broader concept of value by measuring social, environmental, and economic outcomes and uses monetary values to represent them. METHODS The steps/stages of an SROI analysis were applied to the context of a children's camp for this article. RESULTS Applying the SROI methodology to this healthcare-related program was feasible and provided insight and understanding related to the impacts of this program. CONCLUSIONS Because of SROI's flexibility, it is a tool that has great potential in a healthcare environment and for leaders to evaluate programmatic return on investment.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the long-term benefits to families of childhood cancer survivors who attended a weekend childhood cancer survivor family retreat. DESIGN Descriptive-qualitative study including families who had attended the weekend retreat at least once but not in the past 12 months, and who attend a large pediatric hematology and oncology cancer survivorship program in Texas. METHODS A semistructured interview guide was used during three audio-taped focus groups to explore the benefits of having attended a weekend retreat. Descriptive qualitative analysis was used to analyze the focus groups' transcripts. FINDINGS Seven families participated in the focus groups, and the themes identified were reconnecting (with others or family), putting life in perspective, and changing outlook on life. CONCLUSIONS Retreats offer families of cancer survivors opportunities to reconnect with others and their own family members in a therapeutic environment. These reconnections in a therapeutic environment enriched the families' positive outlooks on life and changed their perspectives. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Families of childhood cancer survivors report a lack of support following the completion of therapy. Retreats in a nonclinical therapeutic setting optimize family-perceived support, relationship building, and reconnecting survivor families.
