Abstract
In the years following the COVID-19 pandemic, issues such as high job demands, burnout, and turnover continue to influence the nursing workforce, with heavier impacts to marginalized groups. Understanding the work and life contexts of nurses of color can help guide strategies for workplace equity and meaningful support. This qualitative study explored the experiences of nurses of color in the United States during the pandemic, focusing on feelings about the profession and job decisions. The overarching theme was "answering the call," with subthemes of "COVID shone a light," "being consumed by COVID," and "is it worth it?" Participants shared how their racial identities shaped their perceptions and job decisions in positive and negative ways, noting how racism impacted many facets of their work and added to the stressors felt in the workplace and the community. Findings provide insight into the underrepresented perspectives of nurses of color and suggest strategies to eliminate racism in nursing.

Abstract
Objective The previous coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) epidemic inflicted significant psychological trauma on emergency and critical care nurses due to various factors, potentially leading to job burnout. Despite the rise of positive psychology, little is known about the post-traumatic growth experience of these nurses after the pandemic. The aim of this study was to assess the experience of post-traumatic growth among emergency and critical care nurses, in order to provide managerial insights for developing effective strategies and facilitating the transformation of nurses' negative emotions into positive ones. Design A qualitative review. Data sources PubMed, EBSCO, Medline, Elsvier, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science, Embase, and Ovid and Chinese databases include the following: Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database (CECDB), VIP Database and China Biomedical Database (CBM). Review methods All articles about emergency and critical care nurses' post-traumatic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic were included after searching and screening 13 databases. The meta-synthesis method was used to integrate and evaluate the included literature in qualitative research. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) was used as a basis for reporting the review. The literature was selected and evaluated by two researchers, and then meta-integration was used for analysis. Results From a total of 11 articles, 90 main results were presented, eight new categories were integrated, and three themes were formed: stress period, adjustment period and growth period. These three themes include eight sub-themes: negative emotion, psychological gap, self adjusting, social support, improvement of personal ability, increased sense of professional belonging, spiritual awakening and extended thinking, look ahead. Conclusion Post-traumatic growth in emergency and critical care nurses is dynamic. Managers should monitor the psychological changes experienced by emergency and critical care nurses following traumatic events, offering targeted support at different stages, providing enhanced professional development opportunities, refining management strategies, guiding nurses in self-adjustment and active coping with trauma, and promoting their physical and mental well-being to ensure a positive mindset for effectively addressing future public health crises.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traumatic stress and moral injury may contribute to burnout, but their relationship to institutional betrayal and moral resilience is poorly understood, leaving risk and protective factors understudied. OBJECTIVES To examine traumatic stress symptoms, moral injury symptoms, moral resilience, and institutional betrayal experienced by critical care nurses and examine how moral injury and traumatic stress symptoms relate to moral resilience, institutional betrayal, and patient-related burnout. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 121 critical care nurses and used an online survey. Validated instruments were used to measure key variables. Descriptive statistics, regression analyses, and group t tests were used to examine relationships among variables. RESULTS Of participating nurses, 71.5% reported significant moral injury symptoms and/or traumatic stress. Both moral injury symptoms and traumatic stress were associated with burnout. Regression models showed that institutional betrayal was associated with increased likelihood of traumatic stress and moral injury. Increases in scores on Response to Moral Adversity subscale of moral resilience were associated with a lower likelihood of traumatic stress and moral injury symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Moral resilience, especially response to difficult circumstances, may be protective in critical care environments, but system factors (eg, institutional betrayal) must also be addressed systemically rather than relying on individual-level interventions to address nurses' needs.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To explore the experiences of nursing students in England who had worked through the first wave and transitioned to qualification in the ongoing pandemic. BACKGROUND Experiences of health professionals and student nurses during the pandemic are now well documented, but the transition of students to qualification is less well understood. In Summer 2020, we interviewed 16 student nurses who had worked as health care assistants on paid extended placements as part of the COVID-19 response in the East of England, finding surprisingly positive experiences, including perceived heightened preparedness for qualification. A year later, we re-interviewed 12 participants from the original study to hear about transitioning to qualification during the ongoing pandemic. This study provides novel insights into their experiences. DESIGN A qualitative study design was used. METHODS Twelve newly qualified nurses who had participated in the original study took part in qualitative, online interviews where they shared their experiences of working and transitioning to qualification during the ongoing pandemic since we spoke to them a year earlier. The data was analysed using thematic analysis. COREQ guidelines were used in developing and reporting this study. RESULTS Three themes were identified. Constant change: in the clinical environment and arising out of the transition to newly qualified nurse, mental health and well-being and reflecting on the past to learn for the future. CONCLUSIONS Participants experienced a unique transition to qualification. The perceived heightened preparedness for qualification that participants who had worked as students during the first wave of the pandemic had become a reality, ameliorating some of the known effects of transition. However, increased expectations and added responsibilities in extremely busy, fluctuating clinical environments with minimal support add weight to calls for mandatory preceptorship programmes. While heightened resilience was evident, provision of ongoing mental health and well-being support is strongly recommended. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE We need a partnership approach with nurse educators and practice colleagues which ensures preparation for qualified practice is appropriate. If we do not effectively prepare students for qualified nurse posts, patient care will almost certainly be compromised.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in negative consequences for nurse well-being, patient care delivery and outcomes, and organizational outcomes. Objective The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of nurses working during the COVID-19 Pandemic in the United States. Design This study used a qualitative descriptive design. Settings The setting for this study was a national sample of nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States over a period of 18 months. Participants Convenience and snowball sampling were used to recruit 81 nurses via social media and both national and state listservs. Methods Using a single question prompt, voicemail and emails were used for nurses to share their experiences anonymously working as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic. Voicemails were transcribed and each transcript was analyzed using content analysis with both deductive and inductive coding. Results The overarching theme identified was Unbearable Suffering. Three additional themes were identified: 1) Facilitators to Nursing Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic, 2) Barriers to Nursing Practice During the COVID-19 pandemic, with the sub-themes of Barriers Within the Work Environment, Suboptimal Care Delivery, and Negative Consequences for the Nurses; and lastly, 3) the Transitionary Nature of the Pandemic.. Conclusions The primary finding of this study was that nurses experienced and witnessed unbearable suffering while working during the COVID-19 pandemic that was transitionary in nature. Future research should consider the long-term impacts of this unbearable suffering on nurses. Intervention research should be considered to support nurses who have worked during the COVID-19 pandemic, and mitigate the potential long-term effects. Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented conditions for clinicians providing end-of-life care in acute care settings, yet almost 2 years since the start of the pandemic, little is known about its impact on clinicians. OBJECTIVES To qualitatively explore how clinicians experienced their role as they cared for dying patients with COVID-19 during the pandemic and the impact of these experiences on their lives as health care professionals. METHODS In-depth, hour-long interviews were conducted by phone in the spring of 2022 at a single time point with 23 physicians and nurses in critical care and emergency department settings from 2 health systems in California. The goal was to elicit perspectives on experiences with end-of-life care and the long-term impact of these experiences. Clinicians were asked to reflect on the different stages of the pandemic, and interviews were analyzed using a thematic analysis. RESULTS The interviews highlighted 2 primary themes around provision of end-of-life care during the COVID-19 pandemic. First, clinicians described challenges around their clinical duties of providing care to dying patients, which included decision-making dilemmas and professionalism challenges. Second, clinicians described the emotional aspects around end-of-life care situations they experienced, including communication with family members, "being patients' family members" at the end of life, and various degrees of meaning-making and remembrance of these experiences. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight the sustained and cumulative emotional challenges and burden clinicians are still shouldering more than 2 years after the start of the pandemic.

Abstract
The phrase 'in it together' has been used liberally since the outbreak of COVID-19, but the extent that frontline workers felt 'in it together' is not well understood. Here, we consider the factors that built (or eroded) solidarity while working through the pandemic, and how frontline workers navigated their lives through periods of disconnection. Semi-structured interviews with 21 frontline workers, across all sectors, were conducted in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The qualitative data were analysed systematically using reflexive thematic analysis. The three themes identified in the data were: (1) Solidarity as central to frontline experiences; (2) Leadership as absent, shallow and divisive: highlighting 'us-them' distinctions and (3) The rise of 'us' and 'we' among colleagues. Our research offers insights into how frontline workers make sense of their experiences of solidarity and discordance during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, with relevance for government and organizational policy-makers shaping future conditions for frontline workers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the experiences of labor and delivery (L&D) nurses and certified nurse-midwives who cared for women during labor and birth in the United States during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. DESIGN Subgroup analysis of a larger study with a qualitative descriptive design. SETTING Telephone interviews. PARTICIPANTS The parent study included 100 nurses across various specialty areas who provided patient care during the first wave of COVID-19 in the United States. Our subgroup analysis included 19 participants: L&D nurses (n = 11) and certified nurse-midwives (n = 8). METHODS Semistructured interview guide. RESULTS Participants described their experiences providing patient care in L&D settings during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. We identified five major themes: Separation of COVID-19-Positive Mothers and Newborns, Isolation of Women in Active Labor, Disparities in Access to Care, Barriers to Communication, and Effect on the Mental Health of Members of the Care Team. CONCLUSION Our findings captured the experiences of maternity care team members who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic when standards of quality maternity care were compromised. The challenges of caring for COVID-19-positive mothers, including isolation during active labor and infant removal from mothers at birth, affected their psychological well-being and their mental health and must now be addressed to prevent burnout and turnover.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to determine relationships between moral injury (MI), well-being, and resilience among staff nurses and nurse leaders practicing during the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic. BACKGROUND Attention to MI among health professionals, including nurses, increased in 2021, particularly related to the pandemic. Few studies examined MI, well-being, and resilience; even fewer provided implications for leadership/management. METHODS The sample included 676 RNs practicing in Ohio. The electronic survey included assessments of MI, well-being, and resilience distributed via the Ohio Nurses Association and the schools of nursing alumni Listservs. RESULTS There was a significant association between MI and negative well-being and negative association between MI and resilience. Differences were observed between staff nurses and leaders. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study relating MI, resilience, and well-bring among nurses and nurse leaders during the pandemic. There is a need for additional research to further our understanding about nurses' health and well-being during the pandemic and beyond.

Abstract
Results of a two-question survey of nurses at one hospital identified 5 clear themes related to nurses' experiences during the pandemic and 7 areas for improvement, providing potential strategies for nurse leaders.
