Abstract
The aim of this narrative mini review was to investigate the potential association of the diabetic foot (DF) with sarcopenia and frailty. Data is still limited, but it appears that DF patients may be more prone to frailty. In addition, patients with DF and sarcopenia exhibit more frequently foot ulcers and amputations, as well as increased mortality rates post-operatively. Further studies are now needed to see how these realizations may be used in clinical practice, aiming to improve DF outcomes.

Abstract
In a world where automation is becoming increasingly common, easier collection of mass of data and powerful computer processing has meant a transformation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The diabetic foot is a multifactorial problem; its issues render it suitable for analysis, interrogation, and development of AI. The latter has the potential to deliver many solutions to issues of delayed diagnosis, compliance, and defining preventative treatments. We describe the use of AI and the development of artificial neural networks that may supplement the failed networks in the diabetic foot. The potential of this technology, current developing applications, and their limitations for diabetic foot care are suggested.

Abstract
Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) remain a common debilitating and costly complication of diabetes mellitus. Indeed, despite all efforts and emerging technologies, many DFUs are difficult to heal and frequently recur. Thus, novel therapeutic approaches are urgently needed. Specific targeting of different molecular and cellular pathways implicated in wound healing emerges as an attractive therapeutic modality to improve outcomes. One of the novel pathways that carry this potential is the wingless-type mouse mammary tumor virus integration site family/beta-catenin signaling pathway (WβcSP). It plays an important role in different stages of wound healing, including inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Potential therapeutic implications of WβcSP activation include producing agonists and/or blocking its endogenous inhibitors. Thus, we should perhaps start exploring potential ways of its therapeutic implication to improve DFU healing.

Abstract
Both obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and diabetes mellitus (DM) are common conditions that often coexist and share many similar risk factors. Diabetic foot is a common complication of DM, which may lead to lower-limb amputation. OSAS is considered a risk factor for type 2 DM (T2DM). There is also evidence that OSAS may be linked with the development, as well as the healing of diabetic foot. Multiple mechanisms triggered by sleep fragmentation and intermittent hypoxaemia in OSAS could contribute to the development of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). More interestingly, emerging evidence implies a favourable impact of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment on DFU healing. Healing DFUs and minimising recurrence rates remains a challenge for health care professionals. In this context, management of OSAS might prove a useful therapeutic adjunct for DFUS. However, data is still limited and randomised controlled trials are needed to further explore this interesting potential.

Abstract
There is accumulating evidence to indicate an association between coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19) and clusters of incident cutaneous eruptions. Of these, chilblains-like perniosis have received widespread medical and media attention. These typically affect the toes, and have been called "COVID-toes." Other acral lesions such as large bullae have also been reported. However, a definitive causal relationship with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has not yet been definitively proven, nor has a pathogenic mechanism been established. These episodes are self-limiting, but we need to know whether long-term sequelae exist.

Abstract
This retrospective study aimed to compare the outcomes and healing parameters of 3 groups of surgical treatment combined with and without local antibiotic administration in diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO). Overall, 25 patients with DFO who met the criteria were included in the study. Surgical debridement was used with systemic antibiotic administration alone (group A; n = 8) or combined with local application of antibiotic-loaded polymethylmethacrylate beads (group B; n = 9) or antibiotic-loaded hydroxyapatite and calcium sulfate beads (group C; n = 8). In total, 87.5% patients in group A, 100% in group B, and 87.5% in group C healed (P = .543). Median time to healing was 17 weeks in group A, 18 weeks in group B, and 19 weeks in group C (P = .094). One patient (12.5%) in group A was amputated. DFO recurrence rate was 12.5% in group A and 12.5% in group C (P = .543). Median hospitalization was 9 days in group A, 8 days in group B, and 9 days in group C (P = .081). In conclusion, adjunctive local antibiotic therapy was not shown to improve outcomes in surgically treated DFO.
