Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with chronic illnesses, especially rare autoimmune and/or systemic diseases associated with significant diagnostic uncertainty, have a representation of their illness and a sometimes prolonged hospitalization experience that can be traumatic and anxiety-provoking. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of a non-medicinal medical hypnosis intervention in reducing the stress state and improving the experience of patients hospitalized in an internal medicine department. METHODS We conducted a prospective study of 24 patients hospitalized in the Internal Medicine Department of Lille University Hospital in 2023. Twelve patients received a non-drug medical hypnosis intervention known as the "place of safety" (case group) and were compared with 12 patients who did not (control group). Stress was assessed by the STAI questionnaire and hospitalization experience by a satisfaction questionnaire. RESULTS The 24 patients, 13 of whom were women, had a mean age of 55±17 years at inclusion. On admission to hospital, the median STAI-ETAT between the two groups was 43.5 (38.0; 56.6) in the case group versus 42.0 (37.0; 48.5) in the control group (P=0.45). In the case group, the median STAI-ETAT questionnaire taken immediately after the hypnosis session was significantly lower than at the start of hospitalization (30.0 [25.5; 36.5] vs. 43.5 [38.0; 56.5] P=0.003), indicating a significant reduction in stress. At the end of hospitalization, there was also a significant persistence of the median significant reduction between cases and controls (29.5 [26.5; 35.0] for cases vs. 41.5 [33.5; 45.5] for controls P=0.002). Experience of hospitalization was better in the case group (median 5.0 [4.5; 5.0] vs. 4.0 [4.0; 4.5], P=0.016). CONCLUSION This study suggests that medical hypnosis is a promising non-medicinal supportive intervention for reducing perceived stress and improving the experience of stress in patients hospitalized on an internal medicine ward.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Changes to the wound dressing frequently cause pain. Some adverse side effects of pharmacologic pain management may cause problems or even impede wound healing. There is no systematic study of non-pharmacologic therapies for pain during wound dressing changes, despite the gradual promotion of non-pharmacologic pain reduction methods. OBJECTIVES To give clinical wound pain management a new direction, locating and assessing non-pharmacological interventions regarding pain brought on by wound dressing changes are necessary. METHOD The researchers conducted a comprehensive literature review on non-pharmacological interventions for pain during wound dressing changes across five databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Library spanning the period from January 2010 to September 2022. The evaluation of literature and data extraction was carried out independently by two researchers, and in cases of disagreement, a third researcher participated in the deliberation. To assess the risk of bias in the literature, the researchers utilised the Cochrane Handbook for Reviews of Interventions, version 5.1.0. RESULTS In total, 951 people were involved in 11 investigations covering seven non-pharmacological therapies. For pain triggered by dressing changes, virtual reality (VR) distraction, auditory and visual distractions, foot reflexology, religious and spiritual care, and guided imaging demonstrated partially positive effects, with hypnosis therapy and jaw relaxation perhaps having a weak effect. CONCLUSION The key to managing wounds is pain management. According to our review, there is some indication that non-pharmacologic interventions can help patients feel less discomfort when having their wound dressings changed. However, the evidence supporting this view is weak. It needs to be corroborated by future research studies with multicentre and large samples. To promote and use various non-pharmacologic interventions in the future, it is also necessary to build standardised and homogenised paths for their implementation.

Abstract
Multicomponent mind-body interventions are increasingly studied in oncology to improve patients' quality of life (QOL). However, the respective usefulness of each of their components or their long-term use by the participants are rarely assessed. In this study, 95 women with different cancer diagnoses participated in a self-hypnosis and self-care group. Different questionnaires were administrated before (T1), right after (T2), 3 to 4 months after (T3), and 1 year after (T4) the intervention. After the intervention, 97.5% of the participants regularly practiced any kind of relaxation (vs. 50% at baseline), especially hypnosis. The different components of the intervention (i.e., being in a group, hypnosis exercises during the sessions and at home, self-care tasks, and discussions during the group sessions) were all considered to be very useful (M = 6.91-7.75/10). One year after the intervention, the 10 most used techniques were mainly concrete activities to take care of oneself. This intervention seems very relevant for women who had cancer. Our results allow a first reflection about the mechanisms of action of our intervention.Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03144154). Registered on the 1st of May 2017.

Abstract
IntroductionPsycho-oncological interventions can reduce distress by activating individual resources and enhancing coping skills. Since medical cancer treatment is performed increasingly in outpatient settings, there is a growing need for evidence-based and brief interventions to be integrated seamlessly into these treatment procedures. The aim of the present pilot study is to examine the feasibility of brief interventions to cope with illness in this area.MethodsA single center quasi-experimental design was developed in oncological outpatients at the University Medical Center Ulm, Germany, including N = 60 individuals with cancer undergoing chemotherapy or immunotherapy. The intervention group (IG) consisted of N = 40 participants. These were assigned to either cognitive behavioral interventions (CBI) or hypnotherapeutic interventions (HTI). The interventions each comprised three individual one-hour sessions. In addition, a waiting control group (WCG of N = 20) was set up, receiving care-as-usual. Primary outcomes were feasibility measures such as recruitment rates, participant retention rates, and complete data rates. Clinical results were discussed for the feasibility of a comprehensive efficacy study.ResultsThe recruitment and completion rates illustrate demand and acceptance of the offer. Of the 208 individuals with cancer offered to participate in the study, 77 were interested in enrolling. This rate of 37% roughly corresponds to the use of psycho-oncological services in general. 17 individuals (22%) withdraw from participation before the intervention began due to severe deterioration in their disease. Once started, all 40 individuals of the IG (100%) completed the intervention, and 17 individuals of the WCG (85%) completed the accompanying questionnaires. Tentative results on clinical outcomes indicate that brief interventions on resource activation could have lasting effects on well-being and stress management.DiscussionWith this feasibility study, we aimed to explore the potential of brief interventions such as hypnotherapeutic and cognitive-behavioral approaches in psycho-oncology as an integral part of oncology day care. Even with a small number of participants results seem to indicate that the study design and brief interventions such as those presented can offer a low-threshold service that can be seamlessly integrated into oncological therapy. Given the promising results of this pilot study, we propose a full RCT on the effectiveness of such a brief intervention program.Clinical trial registrationhttps://www.drks.de, German Trials Register (DRKS00019095).

Abstract
Sleep disturbance can negatively affect physical and psychological health. Hypnotherapy may be effective for improving sleep with fewer side effects than other treatments. The purpose of this systematic review is to comprehensively identify studies and evidence regarding hypnotherapy for sleep disturbances. Four databases were searched to identify studies examining the use of hypnotherapy for sleep in adult populations. The search yielded 416 articles, of which 44 were included. Qualitative data analysis revealed that 47.7% of the studies showed positive results regarding the impact of hypnotherapy for sleep, 22.7% showed mixed results, and 29.5% showed no impact. A subset of 11 studies that set sleep disturbance as an inclusion criterion and included suggestions for sleep were examined separately and had more favorable results, such that 54.5% showed positive results, 36.4% showed mixed results, and 9.1% showed no impact results. Hypnotherapy appears to be a promising treatment for sleep disturbance. Future studies should report effect sizes, adverse events, and hypnotizability and include sleep-specific suggestions, standardized measures, and descriptions of hypnotherapy intervention procedures.

Abstract
The usefulness of hypnosis in patients with obesity needs to be better understood in terms of various outcomes, in addition to weight loss. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of hypnosis and self-hypnosis in combination with nutrition education for patients with obesity, as opposed to nutrition education alone, on the secondary outcomes of quality of life (QoL), coping strategies, and self-esteem within a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Eighty-two participants were included in this study (84.3% were women), with 41 in each group. Further, 70 participants had completed treatment. The intervention consisted of eight group sessions (about one every two weeks). Participants completed self-reported questionnaires assessing their QoL, coping strategies, and self-esteem (SF-36, CISS, SEI) before and after the intervention. Non-parametric analyses were performed. Both groups had comparable characteristics at inclusion (sociodemographic information, clinical information, and scores for the self-reported scales). At eight months (i.e. two months after intervention completion), patients from the hypnosis group used more task-oriented coping (p < .001), less emotion-oriented coping (p < .01) and distraction (p < .05), and had more energy/less fatigue (p < .001) compared to the group who did not undergo hypnosis. Other improvements were observed in the hypnosis group, but there were no significant differences compared with the non-hypnosis group in terms of QoL dimensions and general self-esteem. In conclusion, hypnosis and self-hypnosis in combination with nutrition education seem to be promising interventions to help patients deal with obesity, especially by improving their coping strategies.

Abstract
This article provides an overview of the fields of psychosocial and integrative oncology, highlighting common psychological reactions to being diagnosed with and treated for cancer, including distress, anxiety, depression, fear of cancer recurrence and caregiver burden, as well as symptoms of fatigue, pain, and sleep disturbance. Patterns of symptomatology across the disease continuum are also discussed. Interventions targeted at treating these symptoms are reviewed, including acceptance-based and mindfulness therapies, mind-body therapies, and meaning-based approaches designed for people with advanced stages of disease, including psychedelic therapy. Common methodological issues and shortcomings of the evidence base are summarized with design recommendations, and a discussion of trends in future research including pragmatic research design, digital health interventions, and implementation science completes the article.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) has an enormous adverse impact on quality of life and subsequent therapy of cancer patients. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is reported to improve CRF in many systematic reviews (SRs), but the effects are controversial because of variations in the quality and outcomes. METHODS Thirteen databases were searched from inception to September 2022. Only SRs of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. We assessed the quality of included SRs with the AMSTAR-2 tool, the strength of evidence with the GRADE system, the risk of bias with the ROBIS tool, and the integrity of SRs with the PRISMA checklist. RESULTS We included 30 eligible SRs (27 meta-analyses). Based on the AMSTAR-2 tool, 29 SRs were rated as "critically low" quality, and only one was rated as "low" quality. With the ROBIS tool, 19 SRs demonstrated a low risk of bias. According to the PRISMA checklist, no SRs reported all the items, and 10 SRs sufficiently reported over 70%. Based on the GRADE system, 7 outcomes were assessed as high-quality evidence. CONCLUSION This overview demonstrates promising evidence for the effectiveness of CAM interventions in the treatment of CRF in adults. The roles of qigong, music, auricular point therapy, and dietary supplements in CRF need further evaluation. Although findings are mixed, it is recommend to select appropriate CAM to manage cancer-related fatigue under the guidance of physicians. More studies with rigorous methodological designs and sufficient sample sizes are needed.

Abstract
Some women experience bothersome symptoms around the time of menopause that may have a negative impact on their quality of life and prompt them to seek treatments. Menopausal hormone therapy was historically the treatment of choice. However, medical contraindications and personal preference for nonhormonal therapy have prompted the evaluation of a range of nonhormonal pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies. This review provides an update focusing on the latest evidence-based approach for the management of bothersome symptoms of menopause.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this joint guideline is to provide evidence-based recommendations to practicing physicians and other health care providers on integrative approaches to managing pain in patients with cancer. METHODS The Society for Integrative Oncology and ASCO convened an expert panel of integrative oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, palliative oncology, social sciences, mind-body medicine, nursing, and patient advocacy representatives. The literature search included systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and randomized controlled trials published from 1990 through 2021. Outcomes of interest included pain intensity, symptom relief, and adverse events. Expert panel members used this evidence and informal consensus to develop evidence-based guideline recommendations. RESULTS The literature search identified 227 relevant studies to inform the evidence base for this guideline. RECOMMENDATIONS Among adult patients, acupuncture should be recommended for aromatase inhibitor-related joint pain. Acupuncture or reflexology or acupressure may be recommended for general cancer pain or musculoskeletal pain. Hypnosis may be recommended to patients who experience procedural pain. Massage may be recommended to patients experiencing pain during palliative or hospice care. These recommendations are based on an intermediate level of evidence, benefit outweighing risk, and with moderate strength of recommendation. The quality of evidence for other mind-body interventions or natural products for pain is either low or inconclusive. There is insufficient or inconclusive evidence to make recommendations for pediatric patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND Surgery is a cornerstone of breast cancer management. Prior to surgery, a wire marker is placed at the site of the tumor, to enable the surgeon to accurately localize the lesion during later surgery. This procedure can generate considerable anxiety for many patients. We investigated the value of conversational hypnosis (CH) in reducing anxiety in patients undergoing preoperative wire placement under radiographic control. METHODS Randomized, multicentre study in 7 centers in France. Inclusion criteria were patients aged >18 years with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status ≤2, scheduled to undergo preoperative wire placement in one or several breast lesions. Patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio, stratified by center to undergo preoperative wire placement with or without the use of CH by a radiological technician trained in the CH technique. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients with an anxiety score ≥ 6 on a visual analog scale ranging from 0 (absence of anxiety) to 10 (maximal anxiety). Secondary endpoints were pain score, perceived duration reported by the patient, technician satisfaction with their relationship with the patient, and ease of marker insertion reported by the radiologist. Semi-structured interviews were performed with patients to assess their perception of the marker placement procedure. RESULTS The trial was prematurely interrupted for futility after a planned interim analysis after accrual of 167 patients, i.e., half the planned sample size. Prior to marker placement, 29.3% (n = 24) of patients in the control group had an anxiety score ≥ 6, versus 42.3% (n = 33) in the CH group (p = 0.08). After marker placement, the change of anxiety score was not significantly different between groups (11.0% (n = 9) versus 14.3% (n = 11), p = 0.615). There was no significant difference in any of the secondary endpoints. In the interviews, patients from both groups frequently spoke of a feeling of trust. CONCLUSION This study failed to show a benefit of conversational hypnosis on anxiety in patients undergoing marker placement prior to surgery for breast cancer. The fact that some caregivers had learned this personalized therapeutic communication technique may have had a positive impact on the whole caregiving team. Abstract
Background: Dementia has a negative impact on the quality of life of the person with dementia and their spouse caregivers, as well as on the couple’s relationship, which can lead to high levels of distress for both partners. Hypnosis has been shown to be effective in managing distress and increasing the quality of the relationship. Objective: The aim was to develop a standardized hypnosis intervention for couples confronted with Alzheimer’s disease and evaluate its feasibility, acceptability, and helpfulness in managing the distress of both partners and increasing the quality of the relationship. Methods: In a single-arm study, sixteen couples received the 8-week intervention. Qualitative and quantitative assessments were conducted pre- and post-intervention as well as three months after. Results: 88.9% of couples (n = 16) of the final sample (n = 18) completed the intervention. Despite the negative representations of hypnosis, several factors led couples to accept to participate in this study: positive expectations, professional endorsement, medical application, non-drug approach, home-based, free, flexible, and couple-based intervention. The results showed a significant decrease in distress for both partners. These effects were maintained three months after the intervention. Couples felt more relaxed, had fewer negative emotions, accepted difficulties more easily, were more patient, and reported better communication and more affection in the relationship. Conclusion: Overall, this pilot study shows the feasibility and acceptability of hypnosis with couples confronted with Alzheimer’s disease. Although measures of the preliminary pre- and post-intervention effects are encouraging, confirmatory testing with a randomized controlled trial is needed.

Abstract
Background In metastatic colorectal cancer (CRCm), fatigue is pervasive, reduces quality of life, and is negatively associated with survival. Its course is explained in part by psychosocial variables such as emotional distress, coping strategies, or perceived control. Thus, to reduce fatigue, psychosocial interventions appear to be relevant. In some cancers, Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) reduce fatigue. Hypnosis is also used as a complementary therapy to reduce the side effects of cancer. While CBT requires specific training often reserved for psychologists, hypnosis has the advantage of being increasingly practiced by caregivers and is therefore less expensive (Montgomery et al., 2007). On the other hand, CBT and hypnosis remain understudied in the CRC, do not focus on the symptom of fatigue and in Europe such programs have never been evaluated. Objectives Implementing an intervention in a healthcare setting is complex (e.g., economic and practical aspects) and recruiting participants can be challenging. The primary objective will therefore be to study the feasibility of two standardized interventions (hypnosis and CBT) that aim to reduce fatigue in patients with CRCm treated in a French cancer center. Methods and design A prospective, single-center, randomized interventional feasibility study, using mixed methods (both quantitative and qualitative). A total of 60 patients will be allocated to each intervention group [Hypnosis (n = 30) and CBT (n = 30)]. Participants will be randomized into two parallel groups (ratio 1:1). Both programs will consist of 6 weekly sessions focusing on the CRF management over a period of 6 weeks. Trained therapists will conduct the program combining 3 face-to-face sessions and 3 online sessions. The feasibility and experience of interventions will be evaluated by the outcome variables, including the adhesion rate, the reasons for acceptability, relevance or non-adherence, the satisfaction, the fatigue evolution (with ecological momentary assessments), and the quality of life. All questionnaires will be self-assessment using an online application from the cancer center. Discussion Results will highlight the barriers/facilitators to the implementation of the program and the relevance of the program to the patients, and will be used to generate hypotheses for a randomized control trial. Abstract
Cancer can provoke fatigue, sleep disturbances, and emotional distress. Hypnosis interventions have shown positive short-term effects on these symptoms. However, less is known about their long-term effects. This study assessed the short- and long-term effects of a group intervention combining self-care and self-hypnosis on these symptoms in posttreatment cancer patients. Ninety-five female cancer survivors were randomized to either a hypnosis group intervention or wait-list control. Results showed significant decreases in fatigue, sleep difficulties and emotional distress after intervention for the hypnosis group intervention in comparison to the wait-list control. Most of these positive effects were maintained at 1-year follow-up. Most participants received the hypnosis group intervention approximately 10.65 months after diagnosis, and it is possible that delivering the intervention earlier after diagnosis could have achieved a more robust impact. Further studies are needed to replicate these results in comparison to an active control condition and investigate the best time postdiagnosis for initiating the intervention.

Abstract
Introduction A symptom cluster is very common among oncological patients: cancer-related fatigue (CRF), emotional distress, sleep difficulties, pain, and cognitive difficulties. Clinical applications of interventions based on non-ordinary states of consciousness, mostly hypnosis and meditation, are starting to be investigated in oncology settings. They revealed encouraging results in terms of improvements of these symptoms. However, these studies often focused on breast cancer patients, with methodological limitations (e.g., small sample size, no control group, and no follow-up). Another non-ordinary state of consciousness may also have therapeutic applications in oncology: self-induced cognitive trance (SICT). It seems to differ from hypnosis and meditation, as it involves the body more directly. Thus, investigating its clinical applications, along with hypnosis and meditation interventions, could improve available therapeutic options in oncology. This article details the study protocol of a preference-based longitudinal controlled superiority trial aiming to assess the effectiveness of 3 group interventions (hypnosis, meditation, and SICT) to improve oncological patients’ quality of life, and more specifically CRF, emotional distress, sleep, pain, and cognitive difficulties (primary outcomes). Methods and analysis A power analysis required a total sample of 160 patients. Main inclusion criteria are: cancer diagnosis, active treatments completed for less than a year, no practice of hypnosis, meditation, or SICT, and presence of at least one of these four symptoms: fatigue, sleep difficulties, depression, or anxiety. Each participant will choose the intervention in which they want to participate (hypnosis, mindful self-compassion meditation, SICT, or no intervention—control group). To test the effectiveness of the interventions, data will be collected by questionnaires and neurobiological measures and directly from the medical record at four time points: before inclusion in the study (baseline); immediately after the intervention; and at 3- and 12-month follow-up. The longitudinal data in each group will then be measured. Discussion In addition to standard cancer therapies, there is a growing interest from patients in complementary approaches, such as hypnosis, meditation, and SICT. The results of this study will be useful to increase knowledge about short- and long-term effectiveness of 3 group interventions for CRF, emotional distress, sleep, pain, and cognitive difficulties in patients with different cancers. Abstract
BACKGROUND Pain is a common symptom in cancer patients. Hypnosis is considered one of the most recognized non-pharmacological techniques in pain management. In oncology, this technique can be used as a complementary treatment to reduce the level of pain and anxiety. The objective of this study is to systematically review and evaluate controlled clinical trials (CCTs) examining the effect of hypnosis on the intensity of pain, and anxiety in cancer patients. METHODS A systematic review was conducted according to the recommendations of the "Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses" (PRISMA). The Cochrane systematic review database, the abstract databases, Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Library have been systematically reviewed from 2005 to 2018. RESULTS Eleven CCT with a total of 1182 participants met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. The participants were mainly women (n = 968). Their average age alternates between 48 and 58 years. Perceived pain was measured primarily by visual analog scale (VAS)/numerical pain rating scale (NPRS), which showed that anxiety was measured by Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale (HADS). Hypnosis-related anxiety and pain decreased significantly with respect to usual treatment. CONCLUSIONS Evidence suggests promising results of hypnosis on the management of pain, and anxiety levels in the vast majority of cancer patients. Therefore, because of the exploratory design and high risk of bias, the effectiveness of hypnosis or hypnotherapy in reducing pain and anxiety levels remains unclear. There is a need for more rigorous randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Abstract
Persistent pain following treatment for breast cancer is common and often imprecisely labeled as post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS). PMPS is a disorder with multiple potential underlying causes including intercostobrachial nerve injury, intercostal neuromas, phantom breast pain, and pectoralis minor syndrome. Adding further complexity to the issue are various musculoskeletal pain syndromes including cervical radiculopathy, shoulder impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder, and myofascial pain that may occur concurrently and at times overlap with PMPS. These overlapping pain syndromes may be difficult to separate from one another, but precise diagnosis is essential, as treatment for each pain generator may be distinct. The purpose of this review is to clearly outline different pain sources based on anatomic location that commonly occur following treatment for breast cancer, and to provide tailored and evidence-based recommendations for the evaluation and treatment of each disorder.

Abstract
Simple Summary Reducing side effects of cancer treatments is a major challenge for clinicians involved in the management of breast cancer patients. Among patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery, radiotherapy and endocrine therapy, prolonged side effects frequently mentioned are: polyneuropathy, musculoskeletal pain, postoperative pain and cancer-related fatigue. Conventional drugs have proven to be ineffective in treating theses effects, except for postoperative pain. This is the reason why we prospectively tested the impact of hypnosis sedation used as anesthetic technique for breast cancer surgery on the different side effects of cancer treatment. Despite the limitations of this small non-randomized cohort, preliminary results are very encouraging. Abstract Background: Reducing side effects of cancer treatments is a major challenge for clinicians involved in the management of breast cancer patients. Methods: We analyzed data from 63 patients (32 in the general anesthesia group and 31 in the hypnosis sedation group) who were included in 1 prospective non-randomized trial evaluating hypnosis sedation in breast cancer treatment. The patients were followed every 3 months for 2 years. All patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy with 4 cycles of epirubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by taxanes. Thereafter, patients underwent surgery while on general anesthesia or while on hypnosis sedation. Radiotherapy was administered according to institutional guidelines. Endocrine therapy was prescribed if tumors expressed hormone receptors. Prevalence, intensity and duration of polyneuropathy, musculoskeletal pain, postoperative pain and cancer-related fatigue were assessed at each medical visit. Results: Symptoms duration was statistically reduced for polyneuropathy (p < 0.05), musculoskeletal pain (p < 0.05) postoperative pain and cancer-related fatigue (p < 0.05) in the hypnosis group. Conclusion: Despite the limitations of this study (lack of randomization and small size) we conclude that hypnosis sedation may exert a role on different side effects of breast cancer treatment in patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy, mainly by reducing their duration.

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the complementary and traditional-spiritual practices applied by individuals diagnosed with cancer when experiencing significant pain. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 110 patients who were receiving chemotherapy treatment in a university hospital outpatient treatment unit (Chemotherapy Unit) between 1st March and 30th June 2019. The study sample size was calculated using the 'unknown-population sample selection formula' (n = t2·p·q·/d2). Study data were collected using a patient information form comprising 13 questions about the participants' sociodemographic characteristics, diseases, and complementary practices. The data were analyzed using descriptive percentage tests and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) software. The study found that 45.5% of the cancer patients took a walk, 38.2% listened to music, 27.3% watched movies, 24.5% received massages, 20.0% read newspapers or books, 20.0% did sports, and 10.9% dreamed in painful situations. Spiritual practices used by the patients were determined as praying (46.4%), engaging in salat (the daily ritual prayers of Islam) (30.9%) and reading religious books (23.6%). The herbal practices applied by the patients include the use of garlic, mulberry molasses, pomegranate, green tea; furthermore, herbs such as honey, sage, lime, black cumin, ginger, centaury, thyme, nettle, flaxseeds, and rosehip were also used. Most of the patients learned complementary practices from television programs (62.7%); only 8.2% learned these practices from healthcare professionals. Nurses should investigate patients' use of complementary practices and provide them with the necessary evidence-based information to prevent unconscious use of these practices. Considering that determining patients' spiritual needs and practices is seen as the first step in the holistic care of patients, it is important to satisfy cancer patients by providing necessary healthcare services and help them improve their physical and mental health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, and postoperative breast pain has been reported to be anywhere from 25% to 60%. However, there is sparse data regarding racial/ethnic differences in breast pain among breast cancer patients. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional anonymous survey of breast cancer patients from the Hawaii Cancer Consortium over a 6-week period between 2019 and 2020. The 237 breast cancer participants were ages 29 to 98, 74% Asian, and mainly from outpatient oncology clinics. We evaluated the prevalence of breast pain in a diverse group of breast cancer patients and characterized the pain using a modified short-form McGill pain questionnaire (sfMPQ). RESULTS Eighty-fourrespondents(35.4%) reported breast pain. On univariable analysis, we found significant racial/ethnic differences in the amount of breast pain, where Chinese and Japanese participants reported significantly less pain compared to White participants on a 10-point pain scale. We found differences in breast pain according to age and endocrine therapy use as well as survey location, however, no differences were seen according to chemotherapy, radiation, or breast surgery. Based on the sfMPQ, the most common descriptors of breast pain were sensory (throbbing, shooting, and stabbing) compared to affective (tiring-exhausting, sickening, fearful, and punishing-cruel) characteristics. Although they were described as mild and intermittent, in women with breast pain, 33.4% reported the breast pain affected their sleep, 16.7% their work, and 15.4% their sexual activity. CONCLUSIONS Breast pain is a significant problem in our breast cancer community. This survey assessment has informed our understanding of breast pain in our diverse population. In turn, we are developing culturally appropriate pain management strategies to treat this challenging symptom common in breast cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dementia has negative implications for the quality of life of person and lead to situations of distress. Hypnosis is effective in several health domains but its use in people with dementia is debated. OBJECTIVE The aim was to scope the research activity on the use of hypnosis with persons with dementia to manage their distress, symptoms or daily life. METHOD We used five international databases: PubMed/Medline, the Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar. RESULTS Only seven articles were listed and three articles described the same longitudinal pilot study. Hypnosis was used either in one or several sessions, alone or as an adjunct and reinforced with daily self-hypnosis with or without audio tapes in people with dementia. The results show that they experienced moderate-to-high hypnotizability, but some adaptations were needed given their attention disabilities. They showed benefit on symptoms. Nevertheless, some methodological weaknesses such as small heterogeneous samples, the use of non-validated tools for hypnotizability or outcomes, or the insufficient definition of the content of sessions limit the scope of the results. CONCLUSION Hypnosis seems feasible and acceptable for people with dementia and could provide interesting clinical benefits, but a randomized controlled trial with a large homogeneous sample would be highly informative.

Abstract
Background: Post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS) has been reported to occur in 25–60% of patients following surgeries for breast cancer, the highest occurring cancer in women worldwide. There has been much research interest due to this high prevalence. However, there is still a lack of incorporation of PMPS prevention strategies in standard perioperative plans, and our understanding of this condition is still incomplete. Objectives: This narrative review discusses recent literature on modifiable risk factors, current approaches to prevention and treatment and potential directions for future treatment and research. Methods: A PubMed search with the relevant keywords was done for articles published in the last 10 years. Results: The incidence of PMPS can be reduced by early recognition and management of modifiable risk factors as well as the perioperative use of analgesics and regional nerve blocks. These also have a significant role in the management of established PMPS together with surgical interventions and physical therapy. Conclusions: PMPS is still poorly defined and hence underdiagnosed and undertreated at this point. Perioperative peripheral nerve blocks have a very promising role as preventive analgesia to reduce the risk of developing PMPS, but large-scale randomised controlled studies will need to be done to evaluate their comparative efficacy. There is a need to prioritise PMPS prevention as a standard inclusion into the perioperative plans of mastectomy patients.

Abstract
Emotional distress, communication, and dyadic coping difficulties are common among cancer patients and their partners. Hypnosis-based interventions can improve emotional distress in patients. We designed a group intervention combining self-hypnosis and self-care techniques. We hypothesized an effect of the intervention on emotional distress, conjugal communication, and dyadic coping, considered in patients and their partners. Our exploratory controlled study included 55 women with cancer and 55 partners. Participants completed questionnaires before and after the intervention, which was delivered to patients only. No significant effect of the intervention was revealed for patients or partners. Positive correlations between patients' and partners' communication and dyadic coping were revealed. However, to address couples' or partners' difficulties, interventions specifically designed for couples or partners must be tested.

Abstract
Objectif : Les études qui s’interrogent sur l’efficacité des interventions non médicamenteuses, dans la prise en charge de la fatigue associée au cancer, comprennent le plus souvent des sessions d’activités physiques adaptées ou des prises en charge psychologiques. Parmi elles se trouve l’hypnose, mais elle est principalement proposée en combinaison avec une autre thérapie, limitant une interprétation en termes d’efficacité. À travers cette revue de la littérature, nous voulons comprendre quelle est la place de l’hypnose pour la prise en charge de la fatigue associée au cancer.
Méthode : Nous avons recherché les articles scientifiques indexés dans les bases de données Cochrane, PsycINFO, Pubmed et Web of Science. Les principaux mots clés étaient « fatigue », « cancer » et « hypnosis ». La qualité méthodologique des études a été évaluée.
Résultats : Quatre-vingt-deux études ont été recensées. Après sélection, 11 études ont été retenues à la lecture. Les résultats sur l’efficacité de l’hypnose seule (non combinée à une autre thérapie) ont porté sur 6 études. Bien qu’il faille distinguer l’hypnose délivrée par autrui, de l’autohypnose par audioenregistrement, nos résultats indiquent que 4 études rapportent une efficacité significative de l’hypnose pour réduire la fatigue des patients soignés pour un cancer.
Conclusion : Au niveau international, trop peu d’études évaluent l’efficacité de l’hypnose en oncologie. Ainsi, sur un symptôme spécifique comme la fatigue, les études se font encore plus rares. De plus, il est difficile d’évaluer l’efficacité d’une méthode pour laquelle l’homogénéisation de la procédure est difficile à mettre en place. Cependant, au regard de cette étude, l’hypnose présente un réel intérêt et une efficacité dans la réduction des symptômes de fatigue.

Abstract
Complementary and integrative health (CIH) modalities have therapeutic value in the multidisciplinary rehabilitation of chronic pain patients. Evidence of such has been seen with the Whole Health Model at the (Veterans Affairs) VA Healthcare system. CIH therapies, including yoga, tai chi, mindfulness meditation, hypnosis, self-massage, and acupressure, are significantly effective for managing chronic pain with little to no negative effects, and can be easily incorporated into telemedicine care with great potential benefit. The future of wellness in telemedicine is evolving with great potential, and needs further attention to addressing barriers of care.

Abstract
This is a personal account of using hypnosis as an adjunct to specialist palliative care (SPC) treatment approaches. After a brief systematic review of the literature, one clinician's experience is outlined illustrated by short, anonymized case histories. It argues that the approach is underused in SPC. The barriers currently restricting its routine adoption in SPC are discussed including (1) a lack of SPC clinical trials, (2) a misunderstanding of hypnosis leading to stigma, and (3) its absence from clinicians' training pathways. While the evidence base for the effectiveness of hypnosis in 'supportive care', for example, managing chemotherapy-induced vomiting, is appreciable, there is a gap in SPC. There is little data to guide the use of hypnosis in the intractable symptoms of the dying, for example, breathlessness or the distress associated with missed or late diagnosis. There are many people now 'living with and beyond cancer' with chronic symptomatic illness, 'treatable but not curable'. Patients often live with symptoms over a long period, which are only partially responsive to pharmacological and other therapies. Hypnosis may help improve symptom control and quality of life. SPC trials are needed so that this useful tool for self-management of difficult symptoms can be more widely adopted.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer patients often report low self-esteem and high emotional distress. Two factors seem particularly linked to these symptoms: emotion regulation strategies and mindfulness. The interest of hypnosis and self-care to relieve these symptoms is not well documented. Our randomized controlled trial aimed at assessing the effect of a group intervention combining self-hypnosis and self-care on self-esteem, emotional distress, emotion regulation, and mindfulness abilities of post-treatment cancer patients, as well as investigating the links between these variables. METHODS One hundred and four patients who had suffered from cancer were randomized into the intervention group (N = 52) and the wait-list control group (N = 52). They had to answer questionnaires before (T1) and after the intervention (T2). Nine men were excluded from the analyses, leading to a final sample of 95 women with cancer. Group-by-time changes were assessed with MANOVA, and associations with self-esteem and emotional distress were investigated with hierarchical linear regression models. RESULTS Participants in the intervention group (mean age = 51.65; SD = 12.54) reported better self-esteem, lower emotional distress, a decreased use of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies, and more mindfulness abilities after the intervention, compared to the WLCG. This increase in mindfulness explained 33% of the improvement of self-esteem and 41.6% of the decrease of emotional distress in the intervention group. Self-esteem and emotional distress also predicted each other. CONCLUSION Our study showed the efficacy of our hypnosis-based intervention to improve all the investigated variables. Mindfulness predicted the improvement of self-esteem and emotional distress. The primary impact of our intervention on mindfulness abilities seems to explain, at least in part, its efficacy. Abstract
Physical medicine providers work to cure organic aspects of disease while simultaneously enhancing quality of life and well-being. Mind-body interventions are evidence-based, cost-effective approaches to serve these aims. This article enhances provider knowledge and acceptance of the most effective and prevalent mind-body modalities: meditation, guided imagery, clinical hypnosis, and biofeedback. The scientific evidence is strongest for mind-body applications for chronic pain, primary headache, cardiac rehabilitation, and cancer rehabilitation, with preliminary evidence for traumatic brain injury and cerebrovascular events. Mind-body interventions are well-tolerated by patients and should be considered part of standard care in physical medicine and rehabilitation settings.

Abstract
Pain management for cancer patients should include pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions. Integrative medicine therapies, such as mind-body practice, acupuncture, massage therapy, and music therapy, have been studied for their roles in pain management. Data from randomized controlled trials support the effect of hypnosis, acupuncture, and music therapy in reduction of pain. Mindfulness meditation, yoga, qigong, and massage therapy, although may not reduce pain per se, can relieve anxiety and mood changes, which are commonly associated with pain. In clinical practice, one should also consider burdens and risks to patients, patient preference, and the presence or absence of better alternatives when making decisions on whether an integrative medicine therapy is of clinical value.

Abstract
The delivery of radiation therapy shares many of the challenges encountered in imaging procedures. As in imaging, such as MRI, organ motion must be reduced to a minimum, often for lengthy time periods, to effectively target the tumor during imaging-guided therapy while reducing radiation dose to nearby normal tissues. For patients, radiation therapy is frequently a stress- and anxiety-provoking medical procedure, evoking fear from negative perceptions about irradiation, confinement from immobilization devices, claustrophobia, unease with equipment, physical discomfort, and overall cancer fear. Such stress can be a profound challenge for cancer patients' emotional coping and tolerance to treatment, and particularly interferes with advanced radiation therapy procedures where active, complex and repetitive high-level cooperation is often required from the patient.In breast cancer, the most common cancer in women worldwide, radiation therapy is an indispensable component of treatment to improve tumor control and outcome in both breast-conserving therapy for early-stage disease and in advanced-stage patients. High technological complexity and high patient cooperation is required to mitigate the known cardiac toxicity and mortality from breast cancer radiation by reducing the unintended radiation dose to the heart from left breast or left chest wall irradiation. To address this, radiation treatment in daily deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH), to create greater distance between the treatment target and the heart, is increasingly practiced. While holding the promise to decrease cardiac toxicity, DIBH procedures often augment patients' baseline stress and anxiety reaction toward radiation treatment. Patients are often overwhelmed by the physical and mental demands of daily DIBH, including the nonintuitive timed and sustained coordination of abdominal thoracic muscles for prolonged breath holding.While technologies, such as DIBH, have advanced to millimeter-precision in treatment delivery and motion tracking, the "human factor" of patients' ability to cooperate and perform has been addressed much less. Both are needed to optimally deliver advanced radiation therapy with minimized normal tissue effects, while alleviating physical and cognitive distress during this challenging phase of breast cancer therapy.This article discusses physical training and psychotherapeutic integrative health approaches, applied to radiation oncology, to leverage and augment the gains enabled by advanced technology-based high-precision radiation treatment in breast cancer. Such combinations of advanced technologies with training and cognitive integrative health interventions hold the promise to provide simple feasible and low-cost means to improve patient experience, emotional outcomes and quality of life, while optimizing patient performance for advanced imaging-guided treatment procedures - paving the way to improve cardiac outcomes in breast cancer survivors.

Abstract
Introduction: This article critically examines the systematic
reviews (SR) and meta-analysis (MA) of complementary therapies for cancer
patients to appraise the evidence level, and offers suggestions for future
research and practice. Methods: The Cochrane Library and MEDLINE
were searched from their inception to January 2018, to identify SR and MA of
complementary therapies available for cancer patients. Final selected SR and MA
were methodologically evaluated for their quality by applying the Assessing the
Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR2) instrument. Data
extraction and risk of quality assessments were performed by 2 independent
reviewers. Results: A total of 104 studies were included in the
analysis. The majority of the individual clinical trials included in the SR and
MA were performed in China (48%) and the United States (26.9%). Breast cancer
was the most studied cancer type (25%), and acupuncture was the most studied
intervention (21%). Side effects of cancer such as pain, depression, and fatigue
were effectively managed with complementary therapies. The methodologically
problematic items included not listing the excluded studies and lack of protocol
or protocol registration. Conclusions: With increasing interest in
research, complementary therapies appear to be beneficial in reducing side
effects and raising the quality of life of cancer patients. Complementary
therapies have generally been studied for all cancers, with acupuncture being
the most researched, regardless of the cancer type. Since AMSTAR2 is a stricter
assessment tool than before, future studies need to consider the risk of
methodological bias with caution and discuss appropriate overall quality
assessment tools.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cancer has a lot of consequences such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, emotional distress, cognitive impairment and reduced physical activity. Some hypnosis-based psychological interventions showed positive effects on fatigue, sleep and emotional distress, but generally focused on breast cancer patients. Our study aimed at assessing the effects of a group intervention combining self-care and self-hypnosis on quality of life of cancer patients. METHODS Our longitudinal randomized-controlled trial assessed the benefits of the intervention first on fatigue and secondly on associated symptoms (sleep, emotional distress, cognitive impairment and reduced physical activity) of post-treatment cancer patients, and investigated predictors of the evolution of fatigue. All variables were measured with questionnaires and an actigraph (for sleep and physical activity). RESULTS Ninety five women with different cancers were included in our study. Group-by-time effects were showed for fatigue, sleep, emotional distress and cognitive functioning: symptoms have improved in the intervention group compared to wait-list control group. Three predictors of the evolution of fatigue were revealed: depression, anxiety and worry. CONCLUSIONS Our group intervention had benefits for post-treatment cancer patients' quality of life. Impacting emotional distress could be important in order to decrease fatigue. Further studies are needed to replicate our results. This intervention could be easily implemented to improve quality of life of cancer patients. Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03144154). Retrospectively registered on the 1st of May, 2017.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although cognitive behavior therapies (CBTs) have shown great promise in the reduction of symptom burden from as well as anxiety around various gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, there are substantial issues involving the scalable delivery of such interventions within the clinical setting of a gastroenterology practice, leaving most patients without access to psychological care. GOALS This paper discusses the application of positive psychology principles and techniques for adoption by various GI providers to initiate early, effective psychological care for patients with GI disorders, saving CBTs for more complex cases. STUDY/RESULTS Authors provide a comprehensive framework of patient well-being known as REVAMP, which is consistent with CBT principles, and elaborate on research and interventions that can be adopted within the gastroenterology practice setting. Building positive resources can bolster patients with GI disorders against comorbid psychological and psychiatric distress. CONCLUSIONS Positive psychology interventions can be implemented within gastroenterology practice. Research is necessary to evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of positive psychology interventions among patients with different digestive disorders and baseline psychological characteristics, as well as the feasibility of administration by different clinicians in the gastroenterology practice setting.

Abstract
Many children with cancer and their parents suffer from distress, fatigue, and relational difficulties. Hypnosis is often used to decrease children's procedure-related pain and distress in pediatric oncology and to improve the well-being of adults with cancer. This article describes a pilot study assessing the acceptability and feasibility of a group intervention combining self-care and hypnosis for children with cancer and their parents, and a quasi-experimental protocol aimed at assessing the efficacy of this intervention to improve quality of life, distress, fatigue, and coping. The pilot study showed that the intervention was feasible and perceived positively. Future research is needed to test the efficacy of group interventions combining self-care and hypnosis to improve quality of life for children with cancer and their families.

Abstract
Background Cancer has a lot of consequences on patients’ quality of life (such as cancer-related fatigue (CRF), sleep difficulties and emotional distress) and on patients’ partners and their relationship, such as distress and communication difficulties. These consequences are undertreated, and interventions based on hypnosis often focus on breast cancer patients only. This paper describes the study protocol of a longitudinal randomized controlled trial aiming to assess the efficacy of an 8-week intervention combining hypnosis and self-care to improve cancer patients’ CRF, sleep and emotional distress and to indirectly improve their partners’ distress. Methods A power analysis required a total sample of 88 patients. To test the efficacy of the intervention, results of the experimental group receiving the intervention will be compared to those of the control group. Data will be collected by questionnaires, relaxation tasks, an attentional bias task, and everyday life assessments measured at four different times: 1.) before inclusion in the study (baseline); 2.) after the intervention; and 3.) at 4- and 12-month follow-up. Partners’ symptoms will also be evaluated with questionnaires at the same measurement times. Discussion There is a growing interest in alternative approaches (such as hypnosis) in addition to standard therapies in oncology settings. The results of this study should be useful for improving knowledge about long-term efficacy of hypnosis-based group interventions for CRF, sleep and distress among all types of cancer patients and their partners, and to better understand the mechanisms of emotional regulation in cancer patients through the attentional bias task. Abstract
Persistent Post-Mastectomy Pain (PPMP) is a common condition that can follow surgeries for breast cancer, the most common cancer in women. Because of the frequency of PPMP and its potential severity, it has received increasing research attention. This manuscript reviews the recent research literature, beginning with a brief history and then relevant medical, surgical, demographic, and psychosocial risk factors. Subsequently, social, psychological, and functional sequelae that have been linked to PPMPS are considered, as is research on current pharmacological, psychological, and rehabilitative approaches to treatment. The review concludes with a discussion of directions for future research and treatment that might reduce the incidence and impact of PPMP on breast cancer survivors. PERSPECTIVE: This article describes current research literature involving mechanisms, risks, and treatments related to persistent post-mastectomy pain. Implications of research findings also are discussed for pre- and post-surgical approaches to pain management, current treatments, and promising research directions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prostate and breast cancer can have a lot of negative consequences such as fatigue, sleep difficulties and emotional distress, which decrease quality of life. Group interventions showed benefits to emotional distress and fatigue, but most of these studies focus on breast cancer patients. However, it is important to test if an effective intervention for breast cancer patients could also have benefits for prostate cancer patients. METHODS Our controlled study aimed to compare the efficacy of a self-hypnosis/self-care group intervention to improve emotional distress, sleep difficulties, fatigue and quality of life of breast and prostate cancer patients. 25 men with prostate cancer and 68 women with breast cancer participated and were evaluated before (T0) and after (T1) the intervention. RESULTS After the intervention, the breast cancer group showed positive effects for anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep difficulties, and global health status, whereas there was no effect in the prostate cancer group. We showed that women suffered from higher difficulties prior to the intervention and that their oncological treatments were different in comparison to men. CONCLUSION The differences in the efficacy of the intervention could be explained by the baseline differences. As men in our sample reported few distress, fatigue or sleep problems, it is likely that they did not improve on these dimensions. Abstract
INTRODUCTION As a result of advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, two-thirds of individuals suffering with cancer survive more than 5 years after diagnosis, resulting in a large proportion of patients with chronic cancer pain alone or associated with chronic noncancer pain. There is a paucity of literature in reference to diagnosis and management of chronic cancer pain, specifically in relation to persistent opioid use, its effectiveness, and adverse consequences. Areas covered: This review covers the prevalence of chronic cancer pain and its association with multiple comorbidities, persistent opioid use and related consequences, and challenges in managing persistent chronic cancer pain patients. In addition, discussion includes therapeutic opioid use, effectiveness of opioid therapy, assessment of risk of persistent opioid use, and guidance for responsible, persistent opioid prescribing for chronic cancer pain patients. Expert commentary: Despite extensive availability of opioids and related common adverse consequences, including the potential for escalating use, abuse, and deaths, greater awareness is needed to counteract the present atmosphere and appropriately manage patients with chronic cancer pain. Chronic cancer pain is a complex biopsychosocial phenomenon with multiple comorbidities. Opioid therapy has become extremely complex with negative connotations related to escalating abuse and related deaths.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent reviews support that hypnosis has great potential for reducing pain and anxiety during mini-invasive surgery. Here, we assessed the feasibility of hypnotic induction session as adjunct therapy in conscious sedation for venous access device implantation. Primary outcomes were safety and patient satisfaction. METHODS Thirty consecutive women with breast cancer were proposed adjunct of hypnosis before implantation under conscious sedation (midazolam: 0.5 mg ± bolus of Ketamin: 5 mg on demand) indicated for chemotherapy. Self-hypnosis was programmed and guided by one of two trained anesthesiologists. Implantation was performed by one of two experimented surgeons. It consisted of blind subclavian implantation of Braun ST 305 devices using a percutaneous technique adapted from Selinger's procedure. Clinical data were prospectively collected and retrospectively analyzed. A comprehensive custom-made questionnaire recorded patient satisfaction. RESULTS In all, 30/30 patients consented to the procedure. The median age was 54 years (range: 35-77 years). The primary procedure was successful in 29/30. One case was converted into internal jugular vein access after a first attempt. Median length time of the implantation procedure in the operative room was 20 min (range: 10-60 min). Median length time in the recovery room preceding home discharge was 65 min (range: 15-185 min). None of the patients suffered complications. The satisfaction rate was ≥90%, 27/30 patients would get hypnosis in case of reimplantation if necessary and 27/30 would recommend this procedure to others. CONCLUSION Hypnosis under conscious sedation appears feasible and safe for port implantation under conscious sedation in cancer patients. Further studies would determine the exact value of hypnosis effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In oncology, hypnosis has been used for pain relief in metastatic patients but rarely for induction of anesthesia. MATERIAL AND METHOD Between January 2010 and October 2015, 300 patients from our Breast Clinic (Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, Université catholique de Louvain) were included in an observational, non-randomized study approved by our local ethics committee (ClinicalTrials.gov - NCT03003611). The hypothesis of our study was that hypnosis intervention could decrease side effects of breast surgery. 150 consecutive patients underwent breast surgery while on general anesthesia (group I), and 150 consecutive patients underwent the same surgical procedures while on hypnosis sedation (group II). After surgery, in each group, 32 patients received chemotherapy, radiotherapy was administered to 123 patients, and 115 patients received endocrine therapy. RESULTS Duration of hospitalization was statistically significantly reduced in group II versus group I: 3 versus 4.1 days (p = 0.0000057) for all surgical procedures. The number of post-mastectomy lymph punctures was reduced in group II (1-3, median value n = 1.5) versus group I (2-5, median value n = 3.1) (p = 0.01), as was the quantity of lymph removed (103 ml versus 462.7 ml) (p = 0.0297) in the group of mastectomies. Anxiety scale was also statistically reduced in the postoperative period among the group of patients undergoing surgery while on hypnosis sedation (p = 0.0000000000000002). The incidence of asthenia during chemotherapy was statistically decreased (p = 0.01) in group II. In this group, there was a statistically non-significant trend towards a decrease in the incidence of nausea/vomiting (p = 0.1), and the frequency of radiodermitis (p = 0.002) and post-radiotherapy asthenia (p = 0.000000881) was also reduced. Finally, the incidence of hot flashes (p = 0.0000000000021), joint and muscle pain (p = 0.0000000000021) and asthenia while on endocrine therapy (p = 0.000000022) were statistically significantly decreased in group II. DISCUSSION Hypnosis sedation exerts beneficial effects on nearly all modalities of breast cancer treatment. CONCLUSION Benefits of hypnosis sedation on breast cancer treatment are very encouraging and further promote the concept of integrative oncology.

Abstract
Background: Long-term effects of psychosocial interventions to reduce emotional distress, sleep difficulties, and fatigue of breast cancer patients are rarely examined. We aim to assess the effectiveness of three group interventions, based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), yoga, and self-hypnosis, in comparison to a control group at a 9-month follow-up. Methods: A total of 123 patients chose to participate in one of the interventions. A control group was set up for those who agreed not to participate. Emotional distress, fatigue, and sleep quality were assessed before (T0) and after interventions (T1), and at 3-month (T2) and 9-month follow-ups (T3). Results: Nine months after interventions, there was a decrease of anxiety (P=0.000), depression (P=0.000), and fatigue (P=0.002) in the hypnosis group, and a decrease of anxiety (P=0.024) in the yoga group. There were no significant improvements for all the investigated variables in the CBT and control groups. Conclusions: Our results showed that mind–body interventions seem to be an interesting psychological approach to improve the well-being of breast cancer patients. Further research is needed to improve the understanding of the mechanisms of action of such interventions and their long-term effects on quality of life.

Abstract
Hypnosis has been proven to be a powerful tool in the management of anxiety and pain. It allows for an increase of pain threshold, which can reach the level of surgical analgesia. Recently injection of local anesthetics around the serratus muscle has been presented as an alternative to paravertebral block for cancer breast surgery. We report the successful use of hypnosis in combination with an axillary compartment block for lumpectomy and axillary lymph node dissection.

Abstract
The Healing Skills Project, consisting of five, four-session self-hypnosis classes, was a pilot-study to evaluate the impact of self-hypnosis on the quality of life for breast cancer patients. The impact of self-hypnosis in women with breast cancer was measured using a self-report instrument, the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast, pre- and post-intervention (Brady, et al., 1997; Maratia, Cedillo, & Rejas, 2016). After employing the self-hypnosis interventions, statistically significant changes were noted on 16 of the 36 items, despite the small sample size (N = 23). In summary, participants reported significantly less trouble meeting the needs of their family; less side effects; felt less ill, sad, and nervous; had less worry about dying and their condition getting worse; less shortness of breath; less swelling or tenderness in their arms; and less worry about the effects of stress on their illness. Participants also reported being significantly more able to enjoy life and sleep well; enjoy the usual things they do for fun; more content with their quality of life; feeling more attractive and more like a woman. Additionally, on a brief evaluation of the intervention form 86% of the participants indicated that the self-hypnosis classes were very useful and 100% indicated that it contributed to a noticeably improved quality of life. The pilot study offers support for the value of teaching self-hypnosis to breast cancer patients. This article includes an outline of the protocol for the four-session self-hypnosis classes.
