Abstract
Precise monitoring of nitrite from real samples has gained significant attention due to its detrimental impact on human health. Herein, we have fabricated poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) functionalized carbon matrix suspended Cu nanoparticles (PEDOT-C@Cu-NPs) through a facile green synthesis approach. Additionally, we have used machine learning (ML) to optimize experimental parameters such as pH, drying time, and concentrations to predict current of the designed electrochemical sensor. The ML optimized concentration of fabricated C@Cu-NPs was further functionalized by PEDOT (π-electron mediator). The designed PEDOT functionalized C@Cu-NPs (PEDOT-C@Cu-NPs) electrode has shown excellent electro-oxidation capability towards NO2- ions due to highly exposed Cu facets, defects rich graphitic C and high π-electron density. Additionally, the designed material has shown low detection limit (3.91 μM), high sensitivity (0.6372 μA/μM/cm2), and wide linear range (5-580 μM). Additionally, the designed electrode has shown higher electrochemical sensing efficacy against real time monitoring from pickled vegetables extract.

Abstract
In this study, we developed an electrochemical sensor utilizing a composite material consisting of zirconium‑copper bimetallic metal-organic framework functionalized with ionic liquid [BMIM][PF6]. This composite material was fabricated by simple wet impregnation method, which not only maintains excellent electrocatalytic activity but also enhances electron transfer rate and electroactive surface area. The ZrCu-MOF-818/ILs composite modified electrode has been demonstrated as an effective tool for the detection of nitrite. The electrode exhibited a remarkable limit of detection (LOD) of 0.148 μM and wide linear ranges of 6-3000 μM and 3000-5030 μM. It is worth noting that the sensor displayed excellent reproducibility and repeatability, with relative standard deviation (RSD) values of 1.06% and 1.37%, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed method was successfully applied for the detection of nitrite in tap water and pickle juice.

Abstract
The catalytic performance of titania-supported carbon mesoporous-derived from fish bones (TiO2/CFB) has been investigated in styrene oxidation with aqueous H2O2. The preparation steps of (TiO2/CFB) catalyst involved the carbonization of fish bones powder at 500 °C for 2 h. followed by impregnation of titania using titanium(IV) isopropoxide (500 µmol) precursor, and calcined at 350 °C for 3 h. The physical properties of the adsorbents were characterized using Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), and nitrogen adsorption-desorption studies. The catalytic test was carried out using styrene oxidation with H2O2 as an oxidant at room temperature for 24 h. Its catalytic activity was compared with Fe2O3/CFB, CuO/CFB, TiO2, and CFB catalysts. It is demonstrated that the catalytic activity of TiO2/CFB catalyst has the highest compared to Fe2O3/CFB, CuO/CFB, TiO2, and CFB catalysts in the oxidation of styrene with styrene conversion ~23% and benzaldehyde selectivity ~90%. Kinetics of TiO2/CFB catalyzed oxidation of styrene has been investigated and mechanism for oxidation of styrene has been proposed. Copyright © 2021 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Abstract
In recent years, several devices have been developed for the direct measurement of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), a key compound in biological processes and an important chemical reagent in industrial applications. Classical enzymatic biosensors for H2O2 have been recently outclassed by electrochemical sensors that take advantage of material properties in the nano range. Electrodes with metal nanoparticles (NPs) such as Pt, Au, Pd and Ag have been widely used, often in combination with organic and inorganic molecules to improve the sensing capabilities. In this review, we present an overview of nanomaterials, molecules, polymers, and transduction methods used in the optimization of electrochemical sensors for H2O2 sensing. The different devices are compared on the basis of the sensitivity values, the limit of detection (LOD) and the linear range of application reported in the literature. The review aims to provide an overview of the advantages associated with different nanostructures to assess which one best suits a target application.

Abstract
Eggshell is an extremely large source of domestic waste and has a huge scientific research potential because of its unique porous hierarchical structure. By converting eggshell waste into valuable functional materials, it can be recycled in many fields. Herein, we envisioned an economical and environmentally friendly conversion method for synthesizing Au nanoparticle loaded eggshell nanocomposites (defined as Au/CaCO3 nanocomposites) for the detection of trace amounts of nitrite in oolong tea. Compared with bare electrodes, the prepared Au/CaCO3 nanocomposite-based electrodes have obvious electrochemical enhancement behavior. A wide linear response range of 0.01 to 1.00 mM and a relatively low detection limit of 11.55 nM have been obtained in this study. The "turning waste into treasure" transformation strategy not only provides a practical and low-cost method for comprehensive utilization of eggshells as valuable functional materials, but also provides a new approach for sensitive detection of pollutants.

Abstract
A novel and cost-effective synthesis of biopolymer-based organic and inorganic composite materials have received substantial attention in a broad range application including electroanalysis of small molecules. In this perspective, we report the synthesis of gum guar (guar) biopolymer stabilized cupric oxide decorated on exfoliated graphite (GR-guar/CuO) composite. Different physicochemical characterization methods were used to confirm the successful exfoliation of graphite and formation of the GR-guar/CuO composite. A simple sonochemical method has been used for the preparation of guar stabilized exfoliated graphite (GR-guar). The flower-like CuO on GR-guar and guar stabilized CuO (CuO-guar) composites were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. Cyclic voltammetric studies revealed that the GR-guar/CuO composite modified screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) had enhanced electro-reduction ability towards H2O2 than GR-guar and pristine graphite/CuO-guar modified SPCEs. Under optimized experimental conditions, the GR-guar/CuO composite modified electrode detects H2O2 in the response ranges from 0.02 to 1296.6 µM. The sensor shows a lower detection limit of 5.8 nM with high sensitivity. The as-prepared GR-guar/CuO composite sensor is highly reproducible and had excellent selectivity and practicality towards the detection of H2O2. Consequently, the fabricated sensor can be used for the accurate detection of H2O2 in real samples.

Abstract
Electrochemical dissolution of metallic copper into slightly acidic aqueous solutions of chitosan yields a clear and stable dispersion of Copper Oxide nanoparticles into the organic polymer host. The electrochemically synthesized chitosan:CuOx nanocomposite is characterized by means of spectrophotometry, frequency domain electrical measurements and morphological analysis. Solid state electrochemical cells having pure chitosan as the electrolyte and using chitosan:CuOx as the electrode, are developed and characterized by means of electrical measurements performed in the ±1 V voltage window. The current-voltage loops of the cells, measured in deionized water, are found to reversibly change in response to hydrogen peroxide added to the water in 0.2 μM subsequent steps. Such changes, clearly distinguishable from changes recorded in response to other analytes, can be exploited in order to develop a hydrogen peroxide sensor able to work without the need for any supporting electrolyte.

Abstract
Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) are favorable in nanotechnology based on some remarkable properties. In this study, the crystalline CeO2 NPs are successfully prepared by an efficient microwave combustion (MCM) and conventional route sol-gel (CRSGM) methods. The structural morphology of the as-prepared CeO2 NPs was investigated by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques. Moreover, the XRD pattern confirmed the formation of CeO2 NPs as a face centered cubic structure. The magnetometer studies indicated the low saturation magnetization (23.96 emu/g) of CeO2 NPs for weak paramagnetic and high saturation magnetization (32.13 emu/g) of CeO2 NPs for super paramagnetic. After that, the oxidation effect of benzyl alcohol was investigated which reveals good conversion and selectivity. Besides, the CeO2 NPs modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) used for the detection of nitrite with linear concentration range (0.02–1200 μM), low limit of detection (0.21 μM) and higher sensitivity (1.7238 μAμM−1 cm−2). However, the CeO2 NPs modified electrode has the fast response, high sensitivity and good selectivity. In addition, the fabricated electrode is applied for the determination of nitrite in various water samples. Eventually, the CeO2 NPs can be regarded as an effective way to enhance the catalytic activity towards the benzyl alcohol and nitrite.

Abstract
Copper oxide films with composition Cu1-x-yFexCoyO (where x⩽0.06 and y⩽0.03 in a molar ratio) and thickness of about 2 μm were spin coated onto ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates. These films were annealed at 500 °C in the air. XRD results show that films are CuO of polycrystalline and monoclinic structures without the detection of any Fe or Co traces. The average crystallite size of pure CuO is 20.44 nm reduced to 18.72 nm after Fe doping, then increased to 26.82 nm due to the co-doping with Co atoms. The optical band gap blue-shifted from 2.15 eV to 2.3 eV followed by red-shift to 2.15 eV after the Co incorporation. The influence of Fe doping and Co co-doping on the optical constants of CuO films as well as the photocatalytic removal of methylene blue (MB) dye is reported. The correlations between the structural modifications and the resultant optical properties are discussed. The obtained results of the fabricated system are compared with those of similar materials.

Abstract
Background Biosensors have attracted increasing attention as reliable analytical instruments in in situ monitoring of public health and environmental pollution. For enzyme-based biosensors, the stabilization of enzymatic activity on the biological recognition element is of great importance. It is generally acknowledged that an effective immobilization technique is a key step to achieve the construction quality of biosensors. Results A novel disposable biosensor was constructed by immobilizing laccase (Lac) with silica spheres on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-doped screen-printed electrode (SPE). Then, it was characterized in morphology and electrochemical properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The characterization results indicated that a high loading of Lac and a good electrocatalytic activity could be obtained, attributing to the porous structure, large specific area and good biocompatibility of silica spheres and MWCNTs. Furthermore, the electrochemical sensing properties of the constructed biosensor were investigated by choosing dopamine (DA) as the typical model of phenolic compounds. It was shown that the biosensor displays a good linearity in the range from 1.3 to 85.5 μM with a detection limit of 0.42 μM (S/N = 3), and the Michaelis-Menten constant (Kmapp) was calculated to be 3.78 μM. Conclusion The immobilization of Lac was successfully achieved with silica spheres to construct a disposable biosensor on the MWCNTs-doped SPE (MWCNTs/SPE). This biosensor could determine DA based on a non-oxidative mechanism in a rapid, selective and sensitive way. Besides, the developed biosensor could retain high enzymatic activity and possess good stability without cross-linking reagents. The proposed immobilization approach and the constructed biosensor offer a great potential for the fabrication of the enzyme-based biosensors and the analysis of phenolic compounds.
