Abstract
Objective Our aim was to evaluate the effect of emigration on fetal birth weight (BW) in a group of pregnant women coming from the Indian subcontinent. Methods This was a retrospective study in a mixed population of pregnant women from the Indian subcontinent that either moved to Europe or stayed in their original countries. The influence of emigration along with several pregnancy characteristics: GA at delivery, fetal gender, maternal age, height, weight, body mass index (BMI) and parity on BW was evaluated by means of multivariable linear regression analysis. Results According to European standards, babies born to Indo-Pakistan emigrants and babies born to women staying in the Indian subcontinent were similarly small (BW centile 30± 29 and 30.1 ± 28, p<0.68). Multivariable regression demonstrated that emigration by itself did not exert a direct influence on BW (p = 0.27), being BMI and gestational age at delivery the true determinants of BW (p<0.0001). Conclusions Maternal BMI is the most relevant parameter affecting fetal growth regardless of the place of residence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Poor oral health, impacting health and wellbeing across the life-course, is a costly and wicked problem. Data (or record) linkage is the linking of different sets of data (often administrative data gathered for non-research purposes) that are matched to an individual and may include records such as medical data, housing information and sociodemographic information. It often uses population-level data or 'big data'. Data linkage provides the opportunity to analyse complex associations from different sources for total populations. The aim of the paper is to explore data linkage, how it is important for oral health research and what promise it holds for the future. METHODS This is a narrative review of an approach (data linkage) in oral health research. RESULTS Data linkage may be a powerful method for bringing together various population datasets. It has been used to explore a wide variety of topics with many varied datasets. It has substantial current and potential application in oral health research. CONCLUSIONS Use of population data linkage is increasing in oral health research where the approach has been very useful in exploring the complexity of oral health. It offers promise for exploring many new areas in the field.

Abstract
Although there is a high rate of pregnant immigrant women in Korea, little is known regarding their pregnancy outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pregnancy outcomes of immigrant women in Korea. Data for all pregnant women who gave birth between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2016 were obtained using the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service Database. Pregnant women were divided into two groups: Korean and immigrant women. The main outcome measures were adverse pregnancy outcomes including gestational diabetes of mellitus, preeclampsia, cesarean section, placental abrnomalities, and postpartum hemorrhage. The odds of gestational diabetes mellitus, preeclampsia, cesarean section, placental previa, placental abruptio, and postpartum hemorrhage was compared between the two groups. Among 4,439,778 pregnant women who gave birth during the study period, 168,940 (3.8%) were immigrant women. The odds of gestational diabetes mellitus (adjusted OR: 1.24; 95% CI: 1.21, 1.28), and cesarean section (adjusted OR: 1.26; 95% CI: 1.25-1.28)were higher in immigrant women than in Korean women, but the odds of preeclampsia (adjusted OR: 0.84; 95% CI: 0.81-0.86) and postpartum hemorrhage (adjusted OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.94-0.97) was lower in immigrant women than in Korean women. Immigrant women had different pregnancy outcomes. Pregnancy and postpartum management that reflects these characteristics will be necessary for immigrant women.

Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes and International Immigration Status: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. Ann Glob Health 2022; 88:44. Abstract
Background: Disparities in health outcomes between immigrant and native-origin populations, particularly pregnant women, pose significant challenges to healthcare systems. The aim of this systematic-review and meta-analysis was to investigate the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes among immigrant-women compared to native-origin women in the host country. Methods: PubMed (including MEDLINE), Scopus, and Web of Science were searched to retrieve studies published in English language up to September 2020. All observational studies examining the prevalence of at least one of the short-term single pregnancy outcomes for immigrants who crossed international borders compared to native-origin pregnant population were included. The meta-prop method was used for the pooled-estimation of adverse pregnancy-outcomes’ prevalence. For pool-effect estimates, the association between the immigration-status and outcomes of interest, the random-effects model was applied using the model described by DerSimonian and Laird. I2 statistic was used to assess heterogeneity. The publication bias was assessed using the Harbord-test. Meta-regression was performed to explore the effect of geographical region as the heterogeneity source. Findings: This review involved 11 320 674 pregnant women with an immigration-background and 56 102 698 pregnant women as the native-origin population. The risk of emergency cesarean section (Pooled-OR = 1.1, 95%CI = 1.0–1.2), shoulder dystocia (Pooled-OR = 1.1, 95%CI = 1.0–1.3), gestational diabetes mellites (Pooled-OR = 1.4, 95%CI = 1.2–1.6), small for gestational age (Pooled-OR=1.3, 95%CI = 1.1–0.4), 5-min Apgar less than 7 (Pooled-OR = 1.2, 95%CI = 1.0–1.3) and oligohydramnios (Pooled-OR = 1.8, 95%CI = 1.0–3.3) in the immigrant women were significantly higher than those with the native origin background. The immigrant women had a lower risk of labor induction (Pooled-OR = 0.8, 95%CI = 0.7–0.8), pregnancy induced hypertension (Pooled-OR = 0.6, 95%CI = 0.5–0.7) preeclampsia (Pooled-OR = 0.7, 95%CI = 0.6–0.8), macrosomia (Pooled-OR = 0.8, 95%CI = 0.7–0.9) and large for gestational age (Pooled-OR = 0.8, 95%CI = 0.7–0.8). Also, the risk of total and primary cesarean section, instrumental-delivery, preterm-birth, and birth-trauma were similar in both groups. According to meta-regression analyses, the reported ORs were not influenced by the country of origin. Conclusion: The relationship between the immigration status and adverse perinatal outcomes indicated a heterogenous pattern, but the immigrant women were at an increased risk of some important adverse pregnancy outcomes. Population-based studies with a focus on the various aspects of this phenomena are required to explain the source of these heterogenicities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe birth prevalence of rare craniofacial anomalies and associations with antenatal and perinatal factors. STUDY DESIGN All live and stillbirths in Western Australia between 1980 and 2010 were identified from the Western Australian Birth Registrations and the Midwives Notification System (also provides information on antenatal and perinatal factors). Rare craniofacial anomalies (craniosynostosis, craniofacial microsomia, and others [Pierre Robin, Van der Woude, and Treacher Collins syndrome]) were ascertained from the Western Australian Register of Developmental Anomalies and linked to other data sources. Trends in prevalence, adjusted for sex and Indigenous status, were investigated by Poisson regression and presented as annual percent change (APC). Strengths of association of related factors were assessed using multivariable log-binomial regression adjusted for sex, Indigenous status, birth year, socioeconomic disadvantage, and remoteness and reported as risk ratios with 95% CIs. RESULTS There was a temporal increase in prevalence of metopic synostosis (APC 5.59 [2.32-8.96]) and craniofacial microsomia (Goldenhar syndrome) (APC 4.43 [1.94-6.98]). Rare craniofacial anomalies were more likely among infants born preterm, as twins or greater-order multiples, with growth restriction, to older parents, to mothers undertaking fertility treatments, and with pre-existing medical conditions, specifically epilepsy, diabetes, or hypothyroidism. Prenatal identification of rare craniofacial anomalies was uncommon (0.6%). CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate a steady increase over time in prevalence of metopic synostosis and craniofacial microsomia (Goldenhar syndrome). Possible associations of fertility treatments and pre-existing maternal medical conditions with rare craniofacial anomalies require further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accurate knowledge of the relationship between craniofacial anomalies (CFA), intellectual disability (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is essential to improve services and outcomes. The aim is to describe the association between CFA, ID and ASD using linked population data. METHODS All births (1983-2005; n = 566,225) including CFA births (comprising orofacial clefts, craniosynostosis, craniofacial microsomia and mandibulofacial dysostosis) surviving to 5 years were identified from the birth, death, birth defects and midwives population data sets. Linked data from these data sets were followed for a minimum of 5 years from birth until 2010 in the intellectual disability database to identify ID and ASD. These associations were examined using a modified Poisson regression. RESULTS Prevalence of ID and ASD was higher among CFA (especially with additional anomalies) than those without [prevalence ratio 5.27, 95% CI 4.44, 6.25]. It was higher among CFA than those with other gastrointestinal and urogenital anomalies but lower than nervous system and chromosomal anomalies. Children with CFA and severe ID had a higher proportion of nervous system anomalies. CONCLUSIONS Findings indicate increased ID and ASD among CFA but lower than nervous system and chromosomal anomalies. This population evidence can improve early identification of ID/ASD among CFA and support service planning. IMPACT Our study found about one in ten children born with craniofacial anomalies (CFA) are later identified with intellectual disability (ID). Prevalence of ID among CFA was higher than those with other gastrointestinal, urogenital, and musculoskeletal birth defects but lower than those with the nervous system and chromosomal abnormalities. Most children with craniofacial anomalies have a mild-to-moderate intellectual disability with an unknown aetiology. On average, intellectual disability is identified 2 years later for children born with non-syndromic craniofacial anomalies than those with syndromic conditions. Our findings can improve the early identification of ID/ASD among CFA and support service planning.

Abstract
Background Women from migrant and refugee backgrounds who live in high-income countries are at increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes, including mental health issues, preterm birth and maternal and infant mortality. There is a need to implement and evaluate models of care to meet their specific needs in order to improve health outcomes, their experiences of care, and overcome barriers to access. In Sydney, Australia, a unique model of care was implemented to support women and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds to access health and community-based services through the continuum of pregnancy to the early parenting period. This model of care is known as the Cross Cultural Workers (CCWs) in Maternity and Child and Family Health Service (the CCW Service). The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions of service providers regarding the CCW Service and identify recommendations for improvement. Methods A mixed-methods study was conducted consisting of surveys and face to face semi-structured interviews. Service providers were recruited from hospital-based maternity and community-based services. Survey data were analysed descriptively. Interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results Sixty-nine service providers completed surveys and 19 were interviewed. The CCW Service was highly regarded by service providers who perceived it to be critical in improving care for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds. The overarching theme from the interviews was the ability of the CCW Service to act as a ‘bridge to health’ through the provision of culturally responsive care. There were three main categories; supporting access to health and community-based services, improving the healthcare experience, and organisational factors, including part-time hours, capacity, heavy workloads and confusion/lack of clarity regarding the CCW role, which affected CCWs’ capacity to optimally support service providers in providing culturally responsive care. These limitations meant CCWs were not able to meet demand, and fully operationalise the model. Conclusion Service providers perceived the CCW model to be a culturally responsive model of care tailored to the needs of women and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds, that reduces barriers to access, and has the potential to improve perinatal outcomes, and women's experience and satisfaction with care.
