Abstract
Cellular membranes serve as an epicentre combining extracellular and cytosolic components with membranous effectors, which together support numerous fundamental cellular signalling pathways that mediate biological responses. To execute their functions, membrane proteins, lipids and carbohydrates arrange, in a highly coordinated manner, into well-defined assemblies displaying diverse biological and biophysical characteristics that modulate several signalling events. The loss of membrane homeostasis can trigger oncogenic signalling. More recently, it has been documented that select membrane active dietaries (MADs) can reshape biological membranes and subsequently decrease cancer risk. In this review, we emphasize the significance of membrane domain structure, organization and their signalling functionalities as well as how loss of membrane homeostasis can steer aberrant signalling. Moreover, we describe in detail the complexities associated with the examination of these membrane domains and their association with cancer. Finally, we summarize the current literature on MADs and their effects on cellular membranes, including various mechanisms of dietary chemoprevention/interception and the functional links between nutritional bioactives, membrane homeostasis and cancer biology.

Abstract
Background The association between dyslipidaemia and breast cancer remains controversial, especially regarding the dynamic changes in lipid levels. Objectives This study aimed to elucidate the role of serum lipid levels and the changes in disease outcomes in patients with breast cancer. Methods The lipid profiles of patients with breast cancer who underwent surgery between 2013 and 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. The lipid profiles comprised triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein. Serum lipid levels were categorized into three groups based on the tertiles. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare changes in serum lipid levels during follow-up. Hazard ratios (HRs) for survival outcomes were estimated using a multivariate Cox regression analysis. Results A total of 3499 women diagnosed with nonmetastatic invasive breast cancer were included in this study, with a median follow-up of 60.4 months. We confirmed that each 1-tertile increased TG at baseline [HR = 1.19, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.02-1.39] and 1-year follow-up (HR = 1.46, 95% CI 1.07-1.98) led to worse relapse-free survival (RFS). A lower risk of disease relapse was observed with each 1-tertile upregulation in HDL at 1-year follow-up (HR = 0.72, 95% CI 0.56-0.92). Receiving systemic therapies tends to induce an elevation in plasma lipid levels 1 year after surgery, especially in terms of TG. Regarding the prognostic value of dynamic changes in lipid levels, patients with sustained high levels of TG had poorer RFS (HR = 1.90, 95% CI 1.16-3.11), whereas maintaining high levels of HDL led to better survival (HR = 0.60, 95% CI 0.37-0.97). Conclusion High TG at baseline and during follow-up was associated with worse disease outcome in early breast cancer patients. Systemic treatment would lead to an elevation of serum lipid levels. Patients with sustained high HDL level at 1-year follow-up after surgery had a superior prognosis, warranting further clinical evaluation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research on the impact of metabolic abnormalities on breast cancer prognosis is limited by small samples and assessment of laboratory values at a single time point, often prior to cancer diagnosis and treatment. In this population-based cohort, time-updated laboratory values were adjusted for cancer treatment to assess the association between metabolic risk factors (glucose, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides) and breast cancer survival. METHODS 13,434 women diagnosed with stage I-III breast cancer from 2005-15 at Kaiser Permanente were included. All outpatient fasting glucose, HDL-C, LDL-C, and triglyceride values from diagnosis through 2019 or death were extracted from electronic medical records. Risk of breast cancer-specific mortality was evaluated with Cox proportional hazards models adjusted for metabolic labs, demographics, body mass index, diabetes, dyslipidemia and anti-hypertensive medications, tumor characteristics (stage, ER and HER2 receptor status) and cancer treatment (use of chemotherapy, tamoxifen, and aromatase inhibitors). RESULTS Mean (SD) age at diagnosis was 62.3 (11.8) years. Over a median follow-up of 8.6 years, 2,876 patients died; 1,080 of breast cancer. Patients with low HDL-C (≤ 45 vs. > 45 mg/dL) had higher breast cancer-specific mortality (HR, 1.77; 95% CI, 1.53-2.05), as did those with elevated fasting glucose (> 99 vs. 60-99 mg/dL) (HR, 1.19; 95% CI, 1.03-1.37). Elevated levels of triglycerides and LDL-C were not associated with breast cancer-specific mortality. CONCLUSIONS High fasting glucose and low HDL-C evaluated over time after cancer diagnosis were associated with higher breast cancer mortality independent of cancer treatments and changes in other metabolic risk factors. Future studies should address whether pharmacologic or lifestyle treatment of glucose and lipids after breast cancer diagnosis can optimize survival outcomes.

Abstract
Background: Esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) is a disease with a male predominance. Accordingly, the applicability of prognostic indicators values previously set for the general population with ESCC has not been reported for determining the physical state in females.Methods: Patients with ESCC were pooled from 2009 to 2017 at Sichuan Cancer Hospital. We determined the differences in the nutritional and inflammatory indicators between gender by sex-stratified survival analysis in all cohorts (n = 2,660) and matching cohorts (n = 483 pairs) separately. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to eliminate selection bias between genders. We further performed the prognostic value of total cholesterol (TC) by subgroup analysis in the female cohort. The area ROC curve was used to assess the predictive performance of TC in females.Results: There were a total of 2,660 patients with ESCC, of whom 2,173 (81.7%) were male and 487 (18.3%) were female. Before PSM, the prognostic nutritional index was an independent factor for OS in males but not in females. For cohort with or without matching, TC was an independent prognostic factor in females not for males. Furthermore, female patients with high TC level had significant poor OS in stages III and IV. The AUCs of TC were 0.63 and 0.70 for predicting 3- and 5-year OS, respectively.Conclusion: Based on a much larger cohort, we confirmed that gender was a significant prognostic factor for ESCC patients. Interestingly, we found a significant difference in TC related to ESCC prognosis between genders. Collectively, TC might be an independent prognostic factor in females with ESCC.

Abstract
Background The association between insulin resistance and cancer-mortality is not fully explored. We investigated the association between several insulin sensitivity indices (ISIs) and cancer-mortality over 3.5 decades in a cohort of adult men and women. We hypothesized that higher insulin resistance will be associated with greater cancer-mortality risk. Methods A cohort of 1,612 men and women free of diabetes during baseline were followed since 1979 through 2016 according to level of insulin resistance (IR) for cause specific mortality, as part of the Israel study on Glucose Intolerance, Obesity and Hypertension (GOH). IR was defined according to the Mcauley index (MCAi), calculated by fasting insulin and triglycerides, the Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA), the Matsuda Insulin Sensitivity Index (MISI), and the Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index (QUICKI), calculated by plasma glucose and insulin. Results Mean age at baseline was 51.5 ± 8.0 years, 804 (49.9%) were males and 871 (54.0%) had prediabetes. Mean follow-up was 36.7±0.2 years and 47,191 person years were accrued. Cox proportional hazard model and competing risks analysis adjusted for age, sex, country of origin, BMI, blood pressure, total cholesterol, smoking and glycemic status, revealed an increased risk for cancer-mortality, HR = 1.5 (95% CI: 1.1–2.0, p = 0.005) for the MCAi Q1 compared with Q2-4. No statistically significant associations were observed between the other ISIs and cancer-mortality. Conclusion The MCAi was independently associated with an increased risk for cancer-mortality in adult men and women free of diabetes and should be further studied as an early biomarker for cancer risk.

Abstract
Introduction. Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most frequent cancer diagnosis in men worldwide. Our ability to identify those men whose cancer will decrease their lifespan and/or quality of life remains poor. The ReIMAGINE Consortium has been established to improve PCa diagnosis. Materials and methods. MRI will likely become the future cornerstone of the risk-stratification process for men at risk of early prostate cancer. We will, for the first time, be able to combine the underlying molecular changes in PCa with the state-of-the-art imaging. ReIMAGINE Screening invites men for MRI and PSA evaluation. ReIMAGINE Risk includes men at risk of prostate cancer based on MRI, and includes biomarker testing. Results. Baseline clinical information, genomics, blood, urine, fresh prostate tissue samples, digital pathology and radiomics data will be analysed. Data will be de-identified, stored with correlated mpMRI disease endotypes and linked with long term follow-up outcomes in an instance of the Philips Clinical Data Lake, consisting of cloud-based software. The ReIMAGINE platform includes application programming interfaces and a user interface that allows users to browse data, select cohorts, manage users and access rights, query data, and more. Connection to analytics tools such as Python allows statistical and stratification method pipelines to run profiling regression analyses. Discussion. The ReIMAGINE Multimodal Warehouse comprises a unique data source for PCa research, to improve risk stratification for PCa and inform clinical practice. The de-identified dataset characterized by clinical, imaging, genomics and digital pathology PCa patient phenotypes will be a valuable resource for the scientific and medical community.

Abstract
Female breast cancer is a complex, multifactorial disease. Studies have shown that hyperglycemia is one of the most important contributing factors to increasing the risk of breast cancer that also has a major impact on the efficacy of chemotherapy. At the cellular level, hyperglycemia can promote the proliferation, invasion, and migration of breast cancer cells and can also induce anti-apoptotic responses to enhance the chemoresistance of tumors via abnormal glucose metabolism. In this article, we focus on the latest progress in defining the mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in hyperglycemic patients including the abnormal behaviors of cancer cells in the hyperglycemic microenvironment and the impact of abnormal glucose metabolism on key signaling pathways. To better understand the advantages and challenges of breast cancer treatments, we explore the causes of drug resistance in hyperglycemic patients that may help to better inform the development of effective treatments.

Abstract
Background Experimental and epidemiological studies demonstrate a role for 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC) in breast cancer development, though results are conflicting. Cholesterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1) and oxysterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase (CYP7B1) regulate 27HC concentrations, while differential expression of the liver X receptor (LXR) and estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) may impact the association between 27HC and breast cancer risk. Methods We evaluated correlates of tumor tissue expression of CYP27A1, CYP7B1, LXR-β, and ERβ and the association between circulating prediagnostic 27HC concentrations and breast cancer risk by marker expression in a nested case-control study within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)-Heidelberg cohort including 287 breast cancer cases with tumor tissue available. Tumor protein expression was evaluated using immunohistochemistry, and serum 27HC concentrations quantified using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results A higher proportion of CYP7B1-positive cases were progesterone receptor (PR)-positive, relative to CYP7B1-negative cases, whereas a higher proportion of ERβ-positive cases were Bcl-2 low, relative to ERβ-negative cases. No differences in tumor tissue marker positivity were observed by reproductive and lifestyle factors. We observed limited evidence of heterogeneity in associations between circulating 27HC and breast cancer risk by tumor tissue expression of CYP27A1, CYP7B1, LXR-β, and ERβ, with the exception of statistically significant heterogeneity by LXR-β status in the subgroup of women perimenopausal at blood collection (p = 0.02). Conclusion This exploratory study suggests limited associations between tumor marker status and epidemiologic or breast cancer characteristics. Furthermore, the association between circulating 27HC and breast cancer risk may not vary by tumor expression of CYP27A1, CYP7B1, LXR-β, or ERβ. Abstract
Background The pretreatment aspartate aminotransferase-to-alanine aminotransferase (De Ritis) ratio is reportedly valuable in prognosis prediction of various malignancies. However, its value in the prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has not yet been reported. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the De Ritis ratio on the survival outcomes of patients with nonmetastatic NPC. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical data of 1023 patients with nonmetastatic NPC admitted between 2009 and 2013 at a single center. The Fine and Gray competing risk regression model was used to analyze the associations between the De Ritis ratio and the survival outcomes of cancer-specific survival (CSS) and progression-free survival (PFS) by using the subdistribution hazard ratio (SHR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) as size effects. The Cox proportional hazard model was used to evaluate the correlation between the De Ritis ratio and overall survival (OS) by using hazard ratio (HR) and 95% CI as size effects. Results Patients were divided into two groups in accordance with the pretreatment De Ritis ratio by using an optimal cutoff value of 1.65. Compared with the patients with low De Ritis ratio (< 1.65), those with elevated De Ritis ratio (≥ 1.65) had poorer prognosis with regard to CSS, PFS, and OS. Notably, multivariate analyses showed that high De Ritis ratio was independently associated with poor CSS (SHR = 1.64, 95% CI: 1.25–2.16), PFS (SHR = 1.69, 95% CI: 1.30–2.19), and OS (HR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.39–2.40). Conclusion Pretreatment De Ritis ratio can be an independent prognostic predictor for patients with nonmetastatic NPC.

Abstract
Backgrounds: High blood glucose or hyperglycemia is an established risk factor for the development and progression of cancer at many sites, whereas data on the relevance between low blood glucose or hypoglycemia and cancer survival are lacking. Aims: We aimed to assess the shape of risk trajectory between preoperative fasting glucose and postoperative digestive cancer-specific mortality in Chinese. Methods: In total, 6865 patients who underwent radical surgery for esophageal cancer (n=2535), gastric cancer (n=3012) and colorectal cancer (n=1318) during 2000-2010 were followed up as of December 2015. All patients received neither chemotherapy nor radiotherapy before and after the surgery. Optimal cutoff points were determined using survival tree analysis. Results: The median follow-up time was 44.9 months (range: 0.5-188.9 months), with 1065 deaths from esophageal cancer, 1331 from gastric cancer and 412 from colorectal cancer. Using fasting glucose (4.36, 6.09] mmol/L as the reference group, hazard ratios for fasting glucose ≤4.36, (6.09, 8.95], (8.95, 11.5] and >11.5 mmol/L were 1.35 (95% confidence interval: 1.19, 1.54), 2.82 (2.57, 3.11), 3.56 (3.10, 4.08) and 4.27 (3.67, 4.97), respectively (p<0.001). Conclusions: Our findings indicate a U-shaped risk trajectory between preoperative fasting glucose and digestive tract cancer-specific mortality in Chinese. Further external validation is warranted.

Abstract
The cell plasma membrane serves as a nexus integrating extra- and intracellular components, which together enable many of the fundamental cellular signaling processes that sustain life. In order to perform this key function, plasma membrane components assemble into well-defined domains exhibiting distinct biochemical and biophysical properties that modulate various signaling events. Dysregulation of these highly dynamic membrane domains can promote oncogenic signaling. Recently, it has been demonstrated that select membrane-targeted dietary bioactives (MTDBs) have the ability to remodel plasma membrane domains and subsequently reduce cancer risk. In this review, we focus on the importance of plasma membrane domain structural and signaling functionalities as well as how loss of membrane homeostasis can drive aberrant signaling. Additionally, we discuss the intricacies associated with the investigation of these membrane domain features and their associations with cancer biology. Lastly, we describe the current literature focusing on MTDBs, including mechanisms of chemoprevention and therapeutics in order to establish a functional link between these membrane-altering biomolecules, tuning of plasma membrane hierarchal organization, and their implications in cancer prevention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High triglycerides and low levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol are observed to promote tumor growth. However, whether breast cancer heterogeneity may explain the contradictory influence of triglycerides and cholesterol observed on breast cancer prognosis remains unclear. METHODS A population-based survival study among 464 breast cancer cases identified within the Tromsø study was conducted. Pre-diagnostic triglycerides, total-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were measured, and detailed clinical and histopathological data were obtained. Using tissue microarray, all breast cancer cases were reclassified into the following subtypes: Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched, and triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to study the associations between pre-diagnostic lipids and breast cancer recurrence, mortality, and survival. RESULTS A total of 464 breast cancer patients, with mean age at diagnosis of 57.9 years, were followed for a mean 8.4 years. TNBC patients in the highest tertile of triglycerides (≥ 1.23 mmol/l) had 3 times higher overall mortality compared to TNBC patients in the lowest tertile (≤ 0.82 mmol/l) (HR 2.99, 95% CI 1.17-7.63), and the 5-year overall survival was 19% lower for TNBC patients in the highest vs. lowest tertile of triglycerides (65% vs. 84%). TNBC patients in the highest tertile of the HDL-cholesterol/total-cholesterol ratio (≥0.35), compared to those in the lowest tertile (≤0.27), had a 67% reduced overall mortality risk (HR 0.33, 95% CI 0.12-0.89). No associations were observed between lipids and prognostic outcome among breast cancer patients overall, or among patients with luminal A and luminal B subtypes. Among HER2-enriched patients, pre-diagnostic triglyceride level was inversely associated with overall mortality. CONCLUSION Our study suggests that pre-diagnostic triglycerides and the HDL-cholesterol/total-cholesterol ratio may independently provide unique information regarding prognostic outcome among triple negative breast cancer patients. However, a small sample size underlines the need for additional studies.

Abstract
This study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of serum lipids in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients who underwent esophagectomy. Preoperative serum lipids were collected from 214 patients who were diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. All of the patients received esophagectomy in Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from January 2007 to December 2008. The records and data were analyzed retrospectively. We found that low total cholesterol (for T stage, p = 0.006; for TNM stage, p = 0.039) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (for T stage, p = 0.031; for TNM stage, p = 0.035) were associated with advanced T stage and TNM stage. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis indicated that low total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were associated with shorter disease-free survival(for total cholesterol, p = 0.045; for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, p < 0.001) and overall survival (for total cholesterol, p = 0.043; for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, p < 0.001). Lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (LHR) indicated poorer disease-free survival and overall survival (both p < 0.001). In the multivariate analysis, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and LHR were independent prognostic factors for disease-free survival and overall survival. In conclusion, our study indicated that preoperative serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol are prognostic factors for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients who underwent esophagectomy. LHR can serve as a promising serum lipids-based prognostic indicator.

Abstract
Survival data analysis becomes complex when the proportional hazards assumption is violated at population level or when crude hazard rates are no longer estimators of marginal ones. We develop a Bayesian survival analysis method to deal with these situations, on the basis of assuming that the complexities are induced by latent cohort or disease heterogeneity that is not captured by covariates and that proportional hazards hold at the level of individuals. This leads to a description from which risk-specific marginal hazard rates and survival functions are fully accessible, 'decontaminated' of the effects of informative censoring, and which includes Cox, random effects and latent class models as special cases. Simulated data confirm that our approach can map a cohort's substructure and remove heterogeneity-induced informative censoring effects. Application to data from the Uppsala Longitudinal Study of Adult Men cohort leads to plausible alternative explanations for previous counter-intuitive inferences on prostate cancer. The importance of managing cardiovascular disease as a comorbidity in women diagnosed with breast cancer is suggested on application to data from the Swedish Apolipoprotein Mortality Risk Study. Abstract
PURPOSE Breast cancer is the most common cancer in females and the leading cause of death worldwide. The effects of statins on breast cancer prognosis have long been controversial; thus, it is important to investigate the relationship between statin type, exposure time, and breast cancer prognosis. This study sought to explore the effect of statins, as well as the different effects of statin solubility and variable follow-up times, on breast cancer prognosis. METHODS We searched the MEDLINE (via PubMed), EMBASE (via OvidSP), Cochrane Library, and ISI Web of Knowledge databases using combinations of the terms "breast neoplasms[MeSH]," "statins" or "lipid-lowering drug," "prognosis" or "survival," or "mortality" or "outcome" with no limit on the publication date. We searched the databases between inception and October 15, 2016. Reference lists of the included studies and relevant reviews were also manually screened. The initial search identified 71 publications, and 7 of these studies, which included a total of 197,048 women, met the selection criteria. Two authors independently screened each study for inclusion and extracted the data. The data were analyzed using Stata/SE 11.0. RESULTS Overall statin use was associated with lower cancer-specific mortality and all-cause mortality, although the benefit appeared to be constrained by statin type and follow-up time. Lipophilic statins were associated with decreased breast cancer-specific and all-cause mortality; however, hydrophilic statins were weakly protective against only all-cause mortality and not breast cancer-specific mortality. Of note, one group with more than 4 years of follow-up did not show a significant correlation between statin use and cancer-specific mortality or all-cause mortality, whereas groups with less than 4 years of follow-up still showed the protective effect of statins against cancer-specific mortality and all-cause mortality. CONCLUSIONS Although statins can reduce breast cancer patient mortality, the benefit appears to be constrained by statin type and follow-up time. Lipophilic statins showed a strong protective function in breast cancer patients, whereas hydrophilic statins only slightly improved all-cause mortality. Finally, the protective effect of statins could only be observed in groups with less than 4 years of follow-up. These findings are meaningful in clinical practice, although some conclusions contradict conventional wisdom and will thus require further exploration.

Abstract
PURPOSE Several mechanistic studies support a role of cholesterol or its metabolites in breast cancer etiology, but associations have been inconsistent in epidemiological studies. In observational studies, possible reverse causation must be accounted for using a prospective design. We investigated prospective associations between pre-diagnostic serum lipid concentrations [total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides], and both breast cancer risk and survival in the E3N cohort study. METHODS Analyses were performed on 583 cases from the E3N prospective cohort diagnosed between 1994 and 2005, and 1,043 controls matched on date, age, recruitment center and menopausal status at blood collection. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals were estimated using conditional logistic regression. Risks of recurrence were estimated among cases using Cox proportional hazards model. Models were adjusted for lifestyle risk factors and mutually adjusted for lipid concentrations. Survival analyses were additionally adjusted for tumor characteristics. RESULTS Overall, there was no association between any serum lipid and breast cancer risk or survival. In stratified analyses, statistically significant interaction was observed between TC and menopausal status (P interaction = 0.05) and between TC and waist circumference (P interaction = 0.03), although the ORs did not reach statistical significance in any of the strata. There was no statistically significant effect modification by BMI, time between blood donation and diagnosis or ER status. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that serum lipids are not associated with breast cancer risk overall, but that menopausal status and waist circumference should be considered in further studies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Although dyslipidemia has been documented to be associated with several types of cancer including breast cancer, it remains uncertainty the prognostic value of serum lipid in breast cancer. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the association between the preoperative plasma lipid profile and the prognostic of breast cancer patients. METHODS The levels of preoperative serum lipid profile (including cholesterol [CHO], Triglycerides [TG], high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol [HDL-C], low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol [LDL-C], apolipoprotein A-I [ApoAI], and apolipoprotein B [ApoB]) and the clinical data were retrospectively collected and reviewed in 1044 breast cancer patients undergoing operation. Kaplan-Meier method and the Cox proportional hazards regression model were used in analyzing the overall survival [OS] and disease-free survival [DFS]. RESULTS Combining the receiver-operating characteristic and Kaplan-Meier analysis, we found that preoperative lower TG and HDL-C level were risk factors of breast cancer patients. In multivariate analyses, a decreased HDL-C level showed significant association with worse OS (HR: 0.528; 95% CI: 0.302-0.923; P = 0.025), whereas a decreased TG level showed significant association with worse DFS (HR: 0.569; 95% CI: 0.370-0.873; P = 0.010). CONCLUSIONS Preoperative serum levels of TG and HDL-C may be independent factor to predict outcome in breast cancer patient.

Abstract
Purpose: Previous studies have reported that the triacylglycerol (TG) level and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) are connected with breast cancer. However, the prognostic utility of the TG level and the TG/HDL-C ratio (THR) as conventional biomarkers in patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) has not been elucidated. In this research, we investigate and compare the predictive value of the pretreatment serum TG level and THR in TNBC patients. Methods: We evaluated 221 patients with TNBC who had pretreatment conventional blood biochemical examinations and calculated the THR. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to assess the effect of the TG level and the THR on overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Results: The optimal cutoff values of the TG level and the THR were determined to be 0.935 mmol/L and 0.600, respectively. As shown in a Kaplan-Meier analysis, TNBC patients with a high TG level and THR had shorter OS and DFS than patients in the low-level groups (p < 0.05). The multivariate analysis suggested that the pretreatment THR level is an independent prognostic factor of OS (HR: 1.935; 95%CI: 1.032-3.629; p = 0.040) in TNBC patients. Conclusions: In conclusion, our data indicate that a high THR is an independent predictor and is superior to the TG level for predicting poor clinical outcomes in TNBC patients.
