Abstract
BACKGROUND To prevent school injuries, thorough epidemiological data is an essential foundation. We aimed to investigate the characteristics of school injuries in Asia and explore risk factors for major trauma. METHODS This retrospective study was conducted in the participating centers of the Pan-Asian Trauma Outcome Study from October 2015 to December 2020. Subjects who reported "school" as the site of injury were included. Major trauma was defined as an Injury Severity Score (ISS) value of ≥16. RESULTS In total, 1305 injury cases (1.0% of 127,715 events) occurred at schools. Among these, 68.2% were children. Unintentional injuries were the leading cause and intentional injuries comprised 7.5% of the cohort. Major trauma accounted for 7.1% of those with documented ISS values. Multivariable regression revealed associations between major trauma and factors, including age, intention of injury (self-harm), type of injury (traffic injuries, falls), and body part injured (head, thorax, and abdomen). Twenty-two (1.7%) died, with six deaths related to self-harm. Females represented 28.4% of injuries but accounted for 40.9% of all deaths. CONCLUSIONS In Asia, injuries at schools affect a significant number of children. Although the incidence of injuries was higher in males, self-inflicted injuries and mortality cases were relatively higher in females. IMPACT Epidemiological data and risk factors for major trauma resulting from school injuries in Asia are lacking. This study identified significant risk factors for major trauma occurring at schools, including age, intention of injury (self-harm), injury type (traffic injuries, falls), and body part injured (head, thoracic, and abdominal injuries). Although the incidence of injuries was higher in males, the incidence of self-harm injuries and mortality rates were higher in females. The results of this would make a significant contribution to the development of prevention strategies and relative policies concerning school injuries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unintentional injuries among children and adolescents are a major public health problem worldwide. These injuries not only have negative effects on children's physiology and psychology, but also bring huge economic losses and social burdens to families and society. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of disability and death among Chinese adolescents, and left-behind children (LBC) are more prone to experience unintentional injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the type and incidence of unintentional injury among Chinese children and adolescents and explore the influences of personal and environmental factors by comparing the differences between LBC and not left-behind children (NLBC). METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in January and February 2019. Additionally, 2786 children and adolescents from 10 to 19 years old in Liaoning Province in China were collected in the form of self-filled questionnaires, including Unintentional Injury Investigation, Unintentional Injury Perception Questionnaire, Multidimensional Subhealth Questionnaire of Adolescent (MSQA), Negative life events, "My Class" questionnaire and Bullying/victim Questionnaire. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to explore the factors associated with unintentional injury among children and adolescents. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to explore the factors affecting unintentional injuries between LBC and NLBC. RESULTS The top three unintentional injuries were falling injuries (29.7%), sprains (27.2%) and burns and scalds (20.3%) in our study population. The incidence of unintentional injuries in LBC was higher than that in NLBC. Burn and scalds, cutting injury and animal bites in LBC were higher than those in NLBC. The results show that junior high school students (odds ratio (OR) = 1.296, CI = 1.066-1.574) were more likely to report multiple unintentional injuries than primary school students. Girls (OR = 1.252, CI = 1.042-1.504) had higher odds of reporting multiple unintentional injuries. The odds of multiple injuries in children and adolescents with low levels of unintentional injury perception were higher than those in children and adolescents with high levels of unintentional injury perception (OR = 1.321, C = 1.013-1.568). Children and adolescents with a higher levels of mental health symptoms (OR = 1.442, CI = 1.193-1.744) had higher odds of reporting multiple unintentional injuries. Compared with teenagers who had never experienced negative life events, teenagers who had experienced negative life events many times (OR = 2.724, CI = 2.121-3.499) were more likely to suffer unintentional injuries many times. Low-level discipline and order (OR = 1.277, CI = 1.036-1.574) had higher odds of reporting multiple unintentional injuries. In-school adolescents who were bullied were more likely to report being injured multiple times than their counterparts who were not bullied (OR = 2.340, CI = 1.925-2.845). Low levels of unintentional injury perception, experienced negative life events and bullying had greater impacts on LBC than on NLBC. CONCLUSION The survey found that the incidence of at least one unintentional injury was 64.8%. School level, sex, unintentional injury perception, subhealth, negative life events, discipline and order and bullying were associated with incidents of unintentional injury. Compared with NLBC, LBC had a higher incidence of unintentional injury, and special attention should be given to this group.

Abstract
Background Unintentional injuries are the leading preventable cause of mortality across different demographics. This study aims to assess the prevalence, severity, contributing factors, and clinical outcomes of unintentional injuries among adolescent patients. Methods A retrospective study was conducted using the charts of patients admitted with unintentional injuries (motor vehicle accidents (MVA), falls, pedestrian injuries, burns, etc.) to the emergency department (ED) from January 2016 to December 2018 at a level-one trauma center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A total of 721 patients' charts were reviewed, but only 52 patients were consecutively included as per the definition of an adolescent. All variables, including severity and outcome, were assessed. Results The overall prevalence of unintentional injuries was 7.2 per 100 adolescent patients. The most common cause of unintentional injury were MVAs, which were reported in 35 (71%), with head and neck region injuries among 38 (73%) patients. The overall mortality was noted at 10 per 52 (19%) patients. The mean Injury Severity Score (ISS) score was 17.81±12.76. The patients who stayed longer in the ED were not associated with pelvic and lower extremity injuries, with a p-value=0.008. The ISS was the significant predictor of mortality, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.6, a confidence interval (CI) of 1.02-2.65, and a p-value=0.04. Conclusion MVAs were the main cause of unintentional injuries among adolescents. Future recommendation plans for adolescents should include stricter implementation of road traffic laws to control this early, preventable death among adolescents.

Abstract
Background: Globally, unintentional injury has been a documented public health problem among adolescents having debilitating consequences and accountable for economic burden. The study was undertaken to estimate the prevalence of unintentional injury, identify the determinants and consequences among adolescents. Design and Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 222 adolescents using systematic random sampling from a site covered under UHTC Srinagar Garhwal, Uttarkhand. Binary and multivariate logistic regression was used to compute crude and adjusted odds ratio (95% CI) for establishing an association between risk factors and unintentional injury. Descriptive measures (causes, consequences, etc.) describing injuries were presented in tabular, graphical form in proportions. Results: 73.1% of the adolescents suffered from unintentional injury. The risk factors associated (statistically insignificant) with unintentional injury was males (AOR=1.019, 95% CI=0.524-1.979), living in nuclear family (AOR=1.540, 95% C =0.766-3.093), smoked tobacco (AO=2.797, 95% CI=0.227-34.4377), visually impaired (AOR=1.629 95% CI=0.548-6.458) and living in house with overcrowding (AOR =1.66, 95% CI=0.818-3.395). Five percent of those affected with unintentional injury had disability.% of those affected with unintentional injury had disability. Conclusions: Health education addressing causes, risk factors, consequences of unintentional injury among adolescents, parents, school, and district health authorities should be mandated for the formulation of policy to prevent unintentional injuries. Significance for public health Adolescence is often a period of life that connects adolescence to maturity and is marked by significant physical, psychological, and social changes. The country's changing disease profile is profoundly embedded in the country's recent social, fiscal, and environmental developments. The cost of adolescent accidental injury to the country is rising as a result of damage and death. As a result, avoiding accidental accidents is crucial. More evidence on the overall costs and benefits of injury prevention is also required. This will assist governments in prioritising investments, and it is a subject on which leading scholars and organisations will collaborate. Injury prevention can be low-cost, with a high return on investment in terms of preventable years of life loss and disability-adjusted life years for young children.
