Abstract
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) encompass a variety of conditions affecting muscles, joints, and nerves. In Portugal, MSDs are the most prevalent occupational health problem in companies. Based on the relevance of work-related MSD (WMSD), this study aims to assess the prevalence of MSD complaints in a needle manufacturing industry in Northern Portugal, following a cross-sectional approach. Thus, 526 workers from five departments (i.e., operator, tuning, maintenance, administration, and logistics) answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). Within the last 12 months, females exhibited a higher frequency of complaints than males across all body parts except for ankles/feet. The body parts eliciting the most percentage of complaints for both genders include the lower back (54.2%), neck (42.2%), shoulders (39.0%), ankles/feet (38.2%), and wrists/hands (35.7%). No significant association was found between Body Mass Index (BMI) and body part complaints. Tuners reported the highest complaint rate, with occupations as substantial predictors of complaints in certain body parts. Likewise, complaints tend to increase with age. The findings advocate for ergonomic interventions that are gender-, age-, and job-sensitive.

Abstract
This review is an update of a previous systematic review and assesses the evidence for the association of work-related physical and psychosocial risk factors and specific disorders of the shoulders. Medline, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, Cochrane Central and PsycINFO were searched and study eligibility and risk of bias assessment was performed by two independent reviewers. A total of 14 new articles were added with the majority focusing on rotator cuff syndrome (RCS) with seven studies. Nine articles reported psychosocial exposures in addition to physical exposures. The strongest evidence was found for the association between elevation, repetition, force and vibration and the occurrence of SIS and tendinosis/tendonitis. Evidence also suggests that psychosocial exposures are associated with the occurrence of RCS and tendinosis/tendonitis. Other findings were inconsistent which prevents drawing strong conclusions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ultrasound imaging has emerged as one of the most useful tools for evaluating shoulder disorders. To date, the association between shoulder ultrasonography and a patient's work status has rarely been explored by antecedent studies. AIM This study aimed to investigate the association between sonographically diagnosed shoulder pathologies and job discontinuation and return to work. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING Outpatient clinic in the university hospital. POPULATION Fifty-nine patients who were older than 20 years of age and had worked in a full-time job within the past three years. METHODS All participants underwent clinical evaluation using the visual analog scale (for pain), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and shoulder ultrasound examination. The work-related ergonomic risks, including dealing with heavy objects, repeated use and requiring forceful motion of the affected upper extremity, were assessed. The ultrasound-identified shoulder pathologies associated with job discontinuation, that is, sick leave due to painful shoulder for more than two consecutive months, were considered as the primary outcome. In the job discontinuation subgroup, we further investigated the association between return to work and the clinical/sonographic findings. RESULTS Univariate analysis revealed a positive association between job discontinuation and shoulder surgery or work types requiring forceful upper-limb movements. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that job discontinuation was positively associated with supraspinatus tendon full-thickness tears (risk ratio, 8.80; 95% CI, 1.77-10.56; P=0.018). Of the patients who received shoulder surgery, 46.6% had recurrent rotator cuff tears. Return to work was likely to be related to pain scores during overhead activities and shoulder function impairment but not to sonographic findings. CONCLUSIONS Job discontinuation is associated with shoulder surgery, work that necessitates forceful upper-extremity movements and supraspinatus tendon full-thickness tears detected by ultrasound. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT Sonographic findings should not be used as the only standard for evaluating the patient's work capability.

Abstract
CONTEXT Therapeutic exercise is considered the mainstay in the management of rotator cuff-related shoulder pain (RCRSP). Manual therapy (MT) interventions have also shown to be effective in RCRSP. However, the benefits of adding MT along with exercise interventions for the management of RCRSP remain unknown. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the additional benefits of MT with exercise compared with exercise in isolation for the management of RCRSP. DATA SOURCES A search of PubMed, Scopus, PEDro, and EBSCO from the inception date of each database through April 20, 2022, was conducted for randomized trials comparing the additional effects of MT in exercise interventions compared with exercise alone for pain management and function in patients with RCRSP. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% CIs were calculated using a random-effects inverse variance model according to the outcome of interest and comparison group. Methodological quality was assessed with PEDro and quality of evidence with the grading of recommendations assessment, development and evaluation approach. STUDY DESIGN Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 2. RESULTS Twelve articles were found eligible and 8 of them demonstrated high methodological quality. Eleven articles were included for quantitative analysis. Pain with movement was not significantly different between MT and exercise versus exercise alone (SMD [95% CI] = -0.15 [-0.41 to 0.12]; I2 = 0%), whereas pain at rest was significantly improved in the groups that used exercise only with a moderate effect size (SMD [95% CI] = 0.47 [0.04 to 0.89]; I2 = 75%). Furthermore, shoulder function was not significantly different between MT and exercise versus exercise alone in the short term (SMD [95% CI] = 0.23 [-0.22 to 0.69]; I2 = 88%) or the long term (SMD [95% CI] = -0.02 [-0.21 to 0.16]; I2 = 2%). CONCLUSION Adding MT to exercise interventions for the management of RCRSP is not more effective than exercise alone for pain and function in adult patients.

Abstract
Background: We aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the WOrk-Related Questionnaire for UPper extremity disorders (WORQ-UP) questionnaire in a working population with upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders. Methods: We enrolled 181 patients with upper extremity conditions to complete the Persian WORQ-UP. A total of 35 patients returned after 1 week to complete the questionnaire again. To test the construct validity, patients responded to the Persian Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (Quick-DASH) at the first visit. The correlation between Quick-DASH and the WORQ-UP was assessed using Spearman correlation coefficient. Internal consistency (IC) was tested using Cronbach's alpha, and test-retest reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.630 (p < 0.001), indicating a strong correlation between Quick-DASH and WORQ-UP. Cronbach's alpha was 0.970, which is considered excellent. ICC for the total score of the Persian WORQ-UP was 0.852 (0.691-0.927), indicating good to excellent reliability. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that the Persian version of the WORQ-UP questionnaire has excellent reliability and IC. Construct validity showed a moderate to strong correlation between WORQ-UP and Quick-DASH, which provides a platform for the workers' population to assess the extent of disability and follow the progress along the treatment course. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe the prevalence of self-reported musculoskeletal disorders among workers in the electronics manufacturing industry and to investigate the relations between work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) and work-related variables. METHODS An interview-based questionnaire survey was carried out in thirty electronics manufacturing factories in China in 2018. The prevalence of WMSDs was estimated using the modified Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). A multivariate logistic regression model was applied to evaluate the effects of risk factors on WMSDs on multiple body parts. RESULTS The 12-month prevalence of WMSDs among participants was 40.6%, and the common body sites affected were the neck (26.8%), shoulder (22.8%), upper back (14.9%), and lower back (14.8%). The results of logistic regression showed that female adults, > 5 job tenure and work-related factors (including awkward posture, lifting or carrying weights, excessive repetition, prolonged sitting, monotonous work and working under conditions of cold or temperature variations) led to a higher risk of WMSDs on most body parts. Upper back, wrist/hand and elbow pain levels were significantly higher for workers with vibration. However, more frequently, physical exercise was a protective factor against WMSDs on most body parts except the upper back, leg and knee. CONCLUSIONS The study indicates a high prevalence of musculoskeletal pain among the electronics manufacturing industry in China. Different personal and work factors are related to the occurrence of WMSD on different body parts. Preventive measures should be implemented based on the characteristics of WMSD in the electronic manufacturing industry. Furthermore, the training and intervention guidance of ergonomic hazards in the workplace need to be strengthened by understanding the impact of bad posture, avoiding long-term sitting posture and increasing physical activities.

Abstract
Background Changes in modern industrial production practices can easily lead to shoulder work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD). The current reports on shoulder WMSD are limited to some industries are less well studied, and the sample size is usually small. This study aimed to describe the prevalence and severity of shoulder WMSD in a large sample of Chinese workers from 15 industries, analyze the possible correlations with sociodemographic and work-related variables, and compare the differences between industries. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among a sample of 55,749 participants from 252 enterprises in 15 industries throughout China. A Chinese version of the musculoskeletal disease questionnaire was used to collect the demographic factors, shoulder symptoms in past 12 months, and work-related factors including posture-related factors, repetition, vibration, work organization, job control, and environmental factors as independent variables. Descriptive statistics were used, and the binary logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the association between shoulder WMSD and potential demographic and work-related factors. Results Nearly 35.5% of participants reported shoulder pain and discomfort in the previous 12 months. Biopharmaceutical manufacturing (56.2%), medical services (54.4%), and aviation services (50.1%) were the three industries with the highest prevalence of shoulder WMSD. The pain score of aviation services workers was the highest. The related factors for shoulder WMSD varied among the different industries. Conclusion Our study found a relatively high prevalence of shoulder WMSD in China. There were large differences in the prevalence of shoulder WMSD among industries, and the related factors were particular to each industry. Such information is useful to help occupational health practitioners and policymakers conduct preventive programs to reduce shoulder disorders in these working populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the development of the electronics manufacturing industry, the demand for human resources has increased, which has also led to the frequent occurrence of multi-site work-related musculoskeletal disorders. METHOD The participants (n = 7307) were recruited from 30 enterprises in China in 2018. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was estimated using a modified Chinese version of the Musculoskeletal Disorders Questionnaire. The multivariate logistic regression model was applied to evaluate the effects of risk factors on multi-site musculoskeletal symptoms. Additionally, the log-binomial model was established to examine the correlation between the various sites of musculoskeletal symptoms in the body. RESULTS The 12-month prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among participants was 40.6%. The proportion of musculoskeletal symptoms involving single-site and 2/>2 body sites were 11.6% and 29.0%, respectively. The results of logistic regression showed that female adults who smoked, had >5-year job tenure, and always stood or sat for long period at work had a higher risk in 2/>2 body sites of musculoskeletal symptoms (p < 0.05). However, physical exercise during leisure time and "Squatting or kneeling for long period at work" were more frequently protective factors. Furthermore, the log-binomial model indicated that the neck and shoulder were significantly related to each other (Prevalence Ratio, PR: 5.511 and 7.017). CONCLUSIONS Several demographic characteristics and work-related factors were associated with multi-site musculoskeletal symptoms in the electronics manufacturing industry in China. Improving the levels of physical exercise and reducing posture problems and force loads may help to promote the health of workers.

Abstract
Einleitung Erkrankungen des Bewegungsapparates der oberen Extremität sind Grund für zunehmende krankheitsbedingte Fehlzeiten bei Erwerbspersonen. Zielsetzung Ziel dieser Studie ist es, den Einfluss der Berufsabhängigkeit auf die Entstehung von Erkrankungen des Bewegungsapparates der oberen Extremität zu untersuchen und neben berufsspezifischen Faktoren, gesundheitsbezogene Risiken darzustellen. Material und Methoden Es wurden 1070 Patienten eingeschlossen, bei denen zwischen 2016 und 2019 bei einer Läsion der Rotatorenmanschette (RM) eine operative RM-Rekonstruktion durchgeführt wurde. Die relevanten Daten wurden retrospektiv aus dem Krankenhausinformationssystem dokumentiert. Die Berufszweige der Patienten wurden nach der Klassifikation der Berufe 2010 (KldB 2010) eingeteilt und mit routinemäßig erfassten und anonymisierten, frei verfügbaren Daten (Statistisches Bundesamt, Bundesagentur für Arbeit) verglichen. Ergebnisse Von den 1070 Patienten waren 844 Patienten im arbeitsfähigen Alter. Die Altersstruktur der einzelnen Bereiche zeigten keine signifikanten Unterschiede. Anhand der Vergleiche der Patientendaten mit der Bevölkerung ergaben sich signifikant höhere RM-Erkrankungsraten in den Bereichen Land‑, Forst- und Tierwirtschaft sowie Gartenbau (p = 0,003); Bau, Architektur, Vermessung und Gebäudetechnik (p < 0,001); Verkehr, Logistik, Schutz und Sicherheit (p < 0,001) und Unternehmensorganisation, Buchhaltung, Recht und Verwaltung (p < 0,001). Ein signifikant reduziertes Risiko bestand in Naturwissenshaft, Geografie und Informatik (p = 0,015); kaufmännische Dienstleistungen, Warenhandel, Vertrieb, Hotel und Tourismus (p < 0,001); Gesundheit, Soziales, Lehre und Erziehung (p < 0,001). Schlussfolgerung Die Prävalenz von RM-Läsionen zeigt einen statistischen Zusammenhang zur ausgeführten Berufstätigkeit in Abhängigkeit von den Berufszweigen. Neben der Berufsabhängigkeit spielen geschlechtsspezifische Arbeitsfaktoren eine Rolle. Schulterschmerzen bei Erwerbstätigkeiten sollten differenzierter betrachtet werden. Dadurch sollen gezielt Präventivmaßnahmen eingeleitet werden können, um vorzubeugen.
