A social network analysis of college students' online learning during the epidemic era: A triadic reciprocal determinism perspective

The way in which college students learn online has dramatically altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the triadic reciprocal determinism (TRD) theory, this study aimed to identify the key factors influencing college students' online learning experience through sentiment analysis, text mining, and social network analysis (SNA). Macro- and micro-level parsing was conducted on the SNA model, which was divided into core, mantle, and shell layers to determine the most influential factors in the core layer. This study found that learners' personal factors, learning behaviors, and related elements in the online learning environment significantly influenced the learning outcomes of college students enrolled in online courses. Additionally, this study explored the distribution of SNA model elements in the mantle and peripheral shell layers, which also impact the online learning experience of college students. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the various factors affecting college students' online learning experience, and highlights the importance of considering these factors when designing online learning environments for college students.

A report on the blended short-term supplementary course on "Developmental Care for infants and toddlers" taught with a multidisciplinary approach for pediatricians -qualitative and quantitative study

BACKGROUND

The implementation of follow-up programs for high-risk infants and toddlers aimed to promptly diagnose developmental delays and disorders and initiate early intervention to help improve their developmental status, reduce their care costs in the future, as well as improve their productivity as members of society. There is a lack of qualified specialists in the infant and toddler development field in Iran. To compensate for the lack of training in this area, for the first time, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences has designed a short-term supplementary course of "Developmental Care for Infants and Toddlers". Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the field of child development, this course has been designed as such. The current study aimed to evaluate this course and explain the graduates' relevant experiences using a multidisciplinary approach.

METHODS

The current study is a quantitative/qualitative study conducted in two phases. In the first step, the learners were asked to assess the teaching quality of the short-term supplementary course of "Developmental Care for Infants and Toddlers" in 5 areas of "educational design," "course administrators' support", " learners' motivation ", "acquisition of general learning and specialized skills" using the Australian Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ). All graduates completed the questionnaires. The data from the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics of medians, and interquartile ranges in SPSS software. The second step was a qualitative study to explain the graduates' experiences of this course with a multidisciplinary approach. The samples were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The samples were those who had completed the course mentioned above, had rich experiences in this field, and were willing to share them. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using conventional content analysis.

RESULTS

In general, the graduates' satisfaction with the course in terms of the five areas studied was evaluated as follows: Educational design, motivating participants to do their best had the greatest median. 5(4-5), Learning objectives; in all items, the median was 4. Course content and resources; all items median were 4 .Relevant learner assessment methods; in all items, the median was 4.The median learners' satisfaction in the areas of "course administrators' support" in all items was 4 and "learners' motivation ", was 5. Learner's motivation" in all items it was 4, indicating the highest level of satisfaction with the "acquisition of specialized skills". In the area of education design, the highest satisfaction was found with the appropriateness of teaching strategies. The codes extracted from the analysis of interviews with the graduates, are divided into four categories: "Ethical and professional commitment of course teachers", "Being a role model in the observance of patients and their caregivers' rights", "Course planning with a multidisciplinary approach and teamwork" as well as "The use of virtual platforms to strengthen and maintain team communication between learners".

CONCLUSION

This course was the first experience of applying a multidisciplinary approach in an interprofessional course. Ideally, it is indispensable for the Iranian medical education system to move away from specialization and connect all related specialties and disciplines to achieve its educational and therapeutic goals. Therefore, the design of this course can be applied as an educational model for other disciplines and clinical courses.

Knowledge sharing of health technology among clinicians in integrated care system: The role of social networks

Promoting clinicians' knowledge sharing of appropriate health technology within the integrated care system (ICS) is of great vitality in bridging the technological gap between member institutions. However, the role of social networks in knowledge sharing of health technology is still largely unknown. To address this issue, the study aims to clarify the influence of clinicians' social networks on knowledge sharing of health technology within the ICS. A questionnaire survey was conducted among the clinicians in the Alliance of Liver Disease Specialists in Fujian Province, China. Social network analysis was conducted using NetDraw and UCINET, and the quadratic assignment procedure (QAP) multiple regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of knowledge sharing of health technology. The results showed that the ICS played an insufficient role in promoting overall knowledge sharing, especially inter-institutional knowledge sharing. Trust, emotional support, material support, and cognitive proximity positively influenced knowledge sharing of health technology, while the frequency of interaction and relationship importance had a negative impact on it. The finding extended the research scope of social network theory to the field of healthcare and will bridge the evidence gap in the influence of the clinicians' social networks on their knowledge sharing within the ICS, providing new ideas to boost knowledge sharing and diffusion of appropriate health technology.

Current Status and Trends in Research on Caries Diagnosis: A Bibliometric Analysis

There are a wide variety of devices for the detection and diagnosis of caries from the initial stages. The purpose of this study was to perform a bibliometric study on research regarding caries diagnosis by identifying the contributing researchers, organizations, countries or regions, journals, and to provide an analysis of keyword co-occurrence and co-authorship networks. An advanced search was performed in Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection database, using the terms “caries diagno*” and “caries detect*” in the “topic” field, from 2013 to 2021. Bibliometric parameters were extracted using WOS’s analyze results tools and VOSviewer software. A total of 816 documents were identified. Most of them, (61.3%) are included in “Dentistry Oral Surgery & Medicine” category within WOS. The largest scientific production on the subject is observed between 2018 and 2021, with a total of 344 records. The most productive author is Mendes FM, followed by Braga MM. The journal with the most articles published on caries diagnosis is Caries Research, with 55 articles (6.74%). The terms with the highest co-occurrence refer to the validity of diagnostic methods, tools or principles used in diagnosis or general aspects related to caries detection and diagnosis.

A bibliometric analysis of the research on preeclampsia in the first two decades of the twenty-first century

BACKGROUND

Preeclampsia still remains one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality worldwide. Despite the concerted efforts of researchers, only a little improvement has been seen. Clinical decision-making is based on the published literatures. With the explosive growth of medical documents in recent decades, a bibliometric method is essential for assessing the intellectual contributions, major components and potential trends.

METHODS

Web of Science Core Collections was selected as the original database and datasets were retrieved consisting of literatures published from 2000 to 2020. Different bibliometric software were employed to visualize the co-authorship network, citation analysis and research theme detection.

RESULTS

A total of 25 497 articles and 3668 reviews were obtained. Despite the number of publications increased annually, the quantity of high-quality contributions did not elevate accordingly. Clinical practitioners should be alerted to the false bloom of achievements and the yield of improvement in future research. Nicolaides Kypros H was found to be the most productive and influential researcher. University of Pittsburgh was the most productive institution whereas Harvard University showed its leading academic status. America located at the central point in global collaboration and scholarship network. Reference citation analysis revealed the top landmark articles. Moreover, keywords co-occurrence analysis and burst detection certificated the lack of novel themes in this field, which needs further efforts.

CONCLUSION

This study provides the overall landscape of science mapping in recent two decades in the field of preeclampsia, with the aim of identifying evolution of research topics and promoting potential concentration or collaboration in the future.
