Abstract
INTRODUCTION The impact of Type II Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on cardiovascular disease (CVD) is well-established, while lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] has recently emerged as a recognized CVD risk factor. The rising prevalence of T2DM resulting from modern lifestyles and the development of specific Lp(a)-lowering agents brought the association between T2DM and Lp(a) in the forefront. AREAS COVERED Despite advancements in T2DM treatment, diabetic patients remain at very-high risk of CVD. Lp(a) may, to some extent, contribute to the persistent CVD risk seen in diabetic patients, and the coexistence of T2DM and elevated Lp(a) levels appears to synergistically amplify overall CVD risk. The relationship between T2DM and Lp(a) is paradoxical. On one hand, high Lp(a) plasma concentrations elevate the risk of diabetic microvascular and macrovascular complications. On the other hand, low Lp(a) plasma concentrations have been linked to an increased risk of developing T2DM. EXPERT OPINION Comprehending the association between T2DM and Lp(a) is critical due to the pivotal roles both entities play in overall CVD risk, as well as the unique aspects of their relationship. The mechanisms underlying the inverse association between T2DM and Lp(a) remain incompletely understood, necessitating further meticulous research.

Abstract
Purpose Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) that significantly impacts the quality of life for affected patients. Dyslipidemia is a known risk factor for developing cardiovascular complications in T2DM patients. However, the association between serum lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) with DN requires further investigation. Patients and Methods For this cross-sectional study, we randomly selected T2DM patients with nephropathy (DN, n = 211) and T2DM patients without nephropathy (T2DM, n = 217) from a cohort of 142,611 patients based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. We collected clinical data from the patients to identify potential risk factors for DN using binary logistic regression and machine learning. After obtaining the feature importance score of clinical indicators by building a random forest classifier, we examined the correlations between Lp(a), HDL-C and the top 10 indicators. Finally, we trained decision tree models with top 10 features using training data and evaluated their performance with independent testing data. Results Compared to the T2DM group, the DN group had significantly higher serum levels of Lp(a) (p < 0.001) and lower levels of HDL-C (p = 0.028). Lp(a) was identified as a risk factor for DN, while HDL-C was found to be protective. We identified the top 10 indicators that were associated with Lp(a) and/or HDL-C, including urinary albumin (uALB), uALB to creatinine ratio (uACR), cystatin C, creatinine, urinary ɑ1-microglobulin, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), urinary β2-microglobulin, urea nitrogen, superoxide dismutase and fibrinogen. The decision tree models trained using the top 10 features and with uALB at a cut-off value of 31.1 mg/L showed an average area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.874, with an AUC range of 0.870 to 0.890. Conclusion Our findings indicate that serum Lp(a) and HDL-C are associated with DN and we have provided a decision tree model with uALB as a predictor for DN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An inverse association between lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) and type 2 diabetes mellitus is well documented. However, data on the association of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) with Lp(a) are sparse. METHODS Cross-sectional data for MetS and Lp(a) were available for 5743 BASE-II and SHIP-0 participants (48.7% men; age 58 [20-85] years) (BASE, Berlin Aging Study; SHIP, Study of Health in Pomerania). The association of MetS and its components with Lp(a) was analyzed by means of median regression adjusted for age, sex, and study. Associations were evaluated for the total population as well as stratified by sex and menopausal status. RESULTS Overall, 27.6% (n = 1573) of the participants in the two studies had MetS and 22.5% (n = 1291) were premenopausal women. There was an inverse association between MetS and Lp(a) in the whole study sample (β = -11.9, 95% confidence interval [-21.3; -2.6]) as well as in men (β = -16.5 [-28.6; -4.3]). Participants with MetS (whole study sample) had 11.9 mmol/L lower Lp(a). Analogous results were found in postmenopausal women (β = -25.4 [-46.0; -4.8]). In premenopausal women with MetS, Lp(a) levels were higher by 39.1 mg/L on average [12.3; 65.9]) than in premenopausal women without MetS. CONCLUSION Hormonal aspects and menopausal alterations seem to affect the association between MetS and Lp(a), as the expected inverse association was not present in premenopausal women.

Abstract
Context Elevated levels of lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) is an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease especially in patients with diabetes. Adult levels of Lp(a) are thought to be is expressed by the second year of life. Objective We hypothesized that Lp(a) would be influenced by low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), race, and HbA1C. Methods Retrospective electronic medical record review of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) (n = 607) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) (n = 93). Results Total of 700 subjects, ages 12-19 years with T1D (n = 607) and T2D (n = 93), 49% were male, mean age was 13.2 ± 3.08 years, and the median Lp(a) was 8.00 mg/dL, IQR 5.00-12.00. The Black subjects had an increased relative risk (RR) of higher Lp(a) compared with White subjects (RR 1.25, P < .0001). Among patients with T1D, Black people had an increased relative risk of higher Lp(a) than White people (RR 1.23, P = .0002). In T2D, Black subjects have 43% higher risk of having elevated Lp(a) than White subjects (RR 1.43, P = .268). In T1D, a 5 mg/dL increase in LDL-C results in 2% increase in Lp(a) (P < .0001). In T2D, a 5 mg/dL increase of LDL-C results in an increase of Lp(a) by 3%. LDL-C and BMI are independently associated with Lp(a) (RR = 1.02, P < .001; RR = 0.98, P < .001). Conclusion Our data suggest that Lp(a) is associated with LDL-C in children with diabetes. Lp(a) is differentially increased at higher concentrations of LDL-C. Black children with diabetes have a significant burden of Lp(a) concentrations compared with White children.

Abstract
Peripheral neuropathies account for the most frequent disorders seen by neurologists, and causes are manifold. The traditional diagnostic gold-standard consists of clinical neurologic examinations supplemented by nerve conduction studies. Due to well-known limitations of standard diagnostics and atypical clinical presentations, establishing the correct diagnosis can be challenging but is critical for appropriate therapies. Magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) is a relatively novel technique that was developed for the high-resolution imaging of the peripheral nervous system. In focal neuropathies, whether traumatic or due to nerve entrapment, MRN has improved the diagnostic accuracy by directly visualizing underlying nerve lesions and providing information on the exact lesion localization, extension, and spatial distribution, thereby assisting surgical planning. Notably, the differentiation between distally located, complete cross-sectional nerve lesions, and more proximally located lesions involving only certain fascicles within a nerve can hold difficulties that MRN can overcome, when basic technical requirements to achieve sufficient spatial resolution are implemented. Typical MRN-specific pitfalls are essential to understand in order to prevent overdiagnosing neuropathies. Heavily T2-weighted sequences with fat saturation are the most established sequences for MRN. Newer techniques, such as T2-relaxometry, magnetization transfer contrast imaging, and diffusion tensor imaging, allow the quantification of nerve lesions and have become increasingly important, especially when evaluating diffuse, non-focal neuropathies. Innovative studies in hereditary, metabolic or inflammatory polyneuropathies, and motor neuron diseases have contributed to a better understanding of the underlying pathomechanism. New imaging biomarkers might be used for an earlier diagnosis and monitoring of structural nerve injury under causative treatments in the future.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study was conducted to determine the relationship between mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) and lipid metabolism with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS Human serum samples were collected from 58 normal controls (NC), 40 subjects with hyperlipidemia (HLD) without T2DM, and 42 subjects with HLD and T2DM. Their MANF levels were detected using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Subgroup analysis was performed in the group with HLD and T2DM based on fasting blood glucose (FBG) > 8.22 vs. FBG ≤ 8.22. Furthermore, the relationship between MANF levels and lipid indices was analyzed. RESULTS Serum MANF levels were found to be significantly higher in the HLD group, both with and without T2DM (5.62 (3.59-7.11) and 4.21 (2.87-6.11)), both P < 0.001, than in the NC (2.81(1.81-4.01). MANF levels were higher in those with FBG > 8.22 than that in those with FBG ≤ 8.22. In addition, in the HLD without T2DM group, MANF levels were negatively correlated with total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and age, while LDL-C and age were independently related to MANF levels. The area under the curve (AUC) in the ROC analysis of MANF for the diagnosis of HLD without T2DM and HLD with T2DM was 0.709 and 0.841, respectively (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Serum MANF levels increased in the HLD with or without T2DM groups and was associated with lipid and glucose metabolism. MANF may be a useful marker for predicting the development of dyslipidemia in T2DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND New recommendations call for lowering LDL-C < 55 mg/dL and non-HDL-C < 85 mg/dL in very-high cardiovascular risk (VH-CVR) patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). This study assessed the proportion of VH-CVR diabetics currently meeting these primary and secondary lipid targets, and which therapies/phenotypes predict combined goals achievement. METHODS We analysed the cardiometabolic phenotype, use of lipid-modulatind drugs (LMD), pre- and post-LMD lipids levels, and CV complications among 1196 T2DM with high (n = 221; 18%) or VH-CVR (n = 975; 82%). Among the latter, the characteristics of combined lipid goal-achievers (n = 158) were compared to those of non-achievers (n = 817), with subgroup analyses of on-statin patients (n = 732) and those with established CVD taking statins (n = 362). Presence of statin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMS) was also recorded. RESULTS 75% of VH-CVR patients were on statins. Both LDL-C and non-HDL-C goals were achieved by 16.2% of all VH-CVR, 19.3% of on-statin VH-CVR, and 24.3% of patients with established CVD taking statins. Achieving both targets was associated with high-intensity statins, specifically rosuvastatin, [statin + ezetimibe] combination, lower baseline LDL-C, smaller LDLs, lower TG and lipoprotein(a), and reduced metabolic syndrome frequency. SAMS reporting did not differ between achievers and non-achievers. CONCLUSIONS More than 80% of patients are above targets. To bridge this gap, apart from treating more LMD-naive/refractory diabetics, one should consider for LDL-C to put most patients on high-intensity statins, more often with ezetimibe and, within statins, to switch preferably to rosuvastatin. As regards non-HDL-C, the off-target patients' phenotype suggests that intensifying lifestyle measures against metabolic syndrome should supplement current therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipoprotein (a) [Lp (a)] has been well recognized as a risk factor of cardiovascular disease. However, the association between serum Lp (a) and diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unknown. We performed a meta-analysis to comprehensively evaluate the above association. METHODS Observational studies aiming to evaluate the independent association between serum Lp (a) and diabetic nephropathy in T2DM patients were identified by systematic search of PubMed and Embase databases. A random-effect model which incorporated the potential intra-study heterogeneity was used for the meta-analysis. RESULTS Eleven observational studies with 9304 T2DM patients were included. Results showed that compared to those with the lowest Lp (a), patients with the highest Lp (a) level had higher odds of diabetic nephropathy (adjusted odds ratio [OR]: 1.63, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.25-2.14, I2 = 54%, P < 0.001). Meta-analysis of studies in which Lp (a) was presented as continuous variables showed consistent result (adjusted OR: 1.13 for 1 mg/dl increment of Lp (a), 95% CI: 1.03-1.24, I2 = 36%, P = 0.008). Subgroup analyses showed that study characteristics such as definitions of diabetic nephropathy and study design did not significantly affect the association (P for subgroup difference all > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Higher serum Lp (a) in patients with T2DM is independently associated with higher odds of diabetic nephropathy. Large scale prospective cohort studies are needed to validate this finding. Moreover, the potential influence of Lp (a) lowering on renal function in T2DM patients may be further investigated.

Abstract
AIMS To investigate the associations between Lp(a), Apo A1, Apo B, and Apo B/Apo A1 ratio with micro- and macrovascular complications of diabetes. METHODS AND RESULTS In this case-cohort study, 1057 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) were followed in the diabetes clinic of Vali-Asr Hospital from 2014 to 2019. The association between serum Lp (a) and apolipoproteins with cardiovascular disease (CVD), neuropathy, and nephropathy were assessed by using binary regression analysis. The ROC curve analysis was used to evaluate the predictive properties of proteins. Youden index was used to calculate cutoff values. Among patients with T2DM, 242, 231, and 91 patients developed CVD, neuropathy, and nephropathy, respectively. The serum Lp (a) level was positively correlated with the development of all three. (P-values = 0.022, 0.042, and 0.038, respectively). The Apo A1 level was negatively correlated with nephropathy. Among the biomarkers, Lp(a) had the highest AUC for prediction of CVD, neuropathy, and nephropathy. Calculated cutoff values of Lp(a), and Apo A1 levels were higher than the standard cutoff values. CONCLUSION Serum level of Lp(a) is a predictor for CVD, neuropathy, and nephropathy. Based on the calculated cutoff values in patients with T2DM, we should consider diabetic complications at higher levels of Lp(a).

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS In type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), sexual dimorphisms modulate the natural histories of hyperglycemia, anthropophysical/cardiometabolic phenotype, and susceptibility to chronic micro and macrovascular complications. The purpose of this work was to revisit known or new dimorphisms within a multiethnic cohort. METHODS Among 1238 T2DM patients, men (63%) were compared to women (37%), including leading ethnicities: Whites (67.4%; 542 men; 293 women); Maghrebians (9.4%; 62 men; 54 women); and Blacks (12.5%; 92 men; 63 women). RESULTS Age, BMI, diabetes duration, insulin sensitivity, B-cell function loss, HbA1c, and hyperglycemia index were similar in both genders. All-cause microangiopathy and cerebrovascular disease did not differ between sexes. Women had significantly more retinopathy (27% vs. 21%) and men more microalbuminuria (25% vs. 19%), all-cause macroangiopathy (40% vs. 26%), CAD (29% vs. 17%) and PAD (11% vs. 6%). Among Blacks, sexual dimorphism in terms of retinopathy was more pronounced (24% in women vs. 11%), while there was no sexual dimorphism in all-cause macroangiopathy, CAD or PAD. B-cell function loss was faster among North African men (+15%), who also had more hepatic steatosis (+27%) than women. CONCLUSIONS T2DM abolishes the CV protection provided by the female gender in Blacks. In White women, the loss of CV protection in diabetes is limited to cerebrovascular disease. In Black women, a markedly increased risk of retinopathy is present, despite glycemic exposure similat to men. Sexual dimorphisms do not affect glucose homeostasis and metabolic control in all ethnicities, except for lesser B-cell function loss in Maghrebian women.

Abstract
Objective: To compare and see the association of serum Lipoprotein (a) levels in younger and older patients suffering from acute coronary syndrome compared to healthy controls Methods: This case control study was conducted in department of cardiology, King Edward Medical University, Lahore from January to December 2015. Total 180 subjects (90 cases and 90 healthy controls, subdivided in 45 young and old in each group ≤/>45 years of age) were included in the study by non-probability purposive sampling. Patients presenting with acute coronary event and angiographically proven coronary vascular disease were considered cases while those with normal coronaries served as controls. Lp(a) was measured after ten hours fasting. Lp(a) >30 nmol/l) were considered as high. Data were entered and analyzed in SPSS 17. Independent sample t-test was used to compare the mean lipoprotein (a) in cases and controls. Results: The mean age of cases and controls was 48.02 ± 10.90 & 45.89±10.09 years respectively. Lipid profile was similar in both cases and controls except triglycerides that were higher in controls (p=0.024). The mean lipoprotein (a) in cases was 47.03 ± 45.47 and in controls was 29.69±23.10 (p-value 0.001). Mean Lp(a) level was significantly high in cases vs controls in young subjects, (50.15±55.62 vs 25.75±15.84, p= 0.006), while in old ones, difference was not statistically significant (43.92±32.69 vs 33.64±28.22, p= 0.114). The frequency of desirable, borderline high, high, and very high Lp(a) levels in cases was 23(25.6%), 12(13.3%), 27(30.0%) and 28(31.1%), while in controls, it was 26(28.9%), 31(34.4%), 17(18.9%) and 16(17.8%), (p-value 0.003). Chi-Square test showed significant association of high Lp(a) with coronary artery disease in younger cases vs controls (P=0.004) with OR 3.65 but not in older (p-value 0.358). Conclusion: Serum lipoprotein(a) is strongly associated with coronary vascular disease especially in patients younger than 45 years of age despite comparable LDL and HDL between cases and controls, making Lp(a) likely independent risk factor for coronary vascular disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The usefulness of C-reactive protein (CRP) to predict cardiovascular disease (CVD) in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) remains controversial. As many factors linked to obesity can modulate CRP in T2DM, we comprehensively revisited the cardiometabolic phenotype of patients with normal or raised CRP, taking into account the sexual dimorphism of its serum value. METHODS 1005 T2DM patients (651 males, 354 females; macroangiopathy 38%; coronary artery disease 26%; microangiopathy 47%) were divided depending on whether CRP level was ≤ or >3 mg/L. Thirty percent of men (n = 195) and 39% of women (n = 137) had raised CRP. Their cardiometabolic phenotype and presence of micro- and macrovascular complications were compared to those with normal CRP. RESULTS In both gender, patients with elevated CRP had higher body mass index, waist circumference, fat mass, visceral fat, insulinemia, HbA1c, and lower muscle mass and insulin sensitivity. They had more atherogenic dyslipidemia, higher non-HDL-C and apolipoprotein B100, and more lipoprotein(a) (+59% in men and +38% in women). In both sexes, there was no difference between patients with normal or high CRP regarding overall macroangiopathy (42% vs. 45% [men]; 27% vs. 28% [women]), coronary and peripheral artery disease, or stroke. Only in men, microangiopathy was more prevalent when CRP was raised (61% vs 44%; p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS This study shows major sex-related differences in microangiopathies in T2DM patients with high CRP levels. The latter are unrelated to prevalent CVD despite an unfavorable metabolic phenotype. By contrast, increased CRP may represent an extended biomarker of microvascular risk in men with T2DM.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Lowering serum cholesterol levels is a well-established treatment for dyslipidemia in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, nerve lesions in patients with T2D increase with lower serum cholesterol levels, suggesting that lowering serum cholesterol levels is associated with diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) in patients with T2D. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether there is an association between serum cholesterol levels and peripheral nerve lesions in patients with T2D with and without DPN. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This single-center, cross-sectional, prospective cohort study was performed from June 1, 2015, to March 31, 2018. Observers were blinded to clinical data. A total of 256 participants were approached, of whom 156 were excluded. A total of 100 participants consented to undergo magnetic resonance neurography of the right leg at the Department of Neuroradiology and clinical, serologic, and electrophysiologic assessment at the Department of Endocrinology, Heidelberg University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany. EXPOSURES Quantification of the nerve's diameter and lipid equivalent lesion (LEL) load with a subsequent analysis of all acquired clinical and serologic data with use of 3.0-T magnetic resonance neurography of the right leg with 3-dimensional reconstruction of the sciatic nerve. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The primary outcome was lesion load and extension. Secondary outcomes were clinical, serologic, and electrophysiologic findings. RESULTS A total of 100 participants with T2D (mean [SD] age, 64.6 [0.9] years; 68 [68.0%] male) participated in the study. The LEL load correlated positively with the nerve's mean cross-sectional area (r = 0.44; P < .001) and the maximum length of a lesion (r = 0.71; P < .001). The LEL load was negatively associated with total serum cholesterol level (r = -0.41; P < .001), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (r = -0.30; P = .006), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (r = -0.33; P = .003), nerve conduction velocities of the tibial (r = -0.33; P = .01) and peroneal (r = -0.51; P < .001) nerves, and nerve conduction amplitudes of the tibial (r = -0.31; P = .02) and peroneal (r = -0.28; P = .03) nerves. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE The findings suggest that lowering serum cholesterol levels in patients with T2D and DPN is associated with a higher amount of nerve lesions and declining nerve conduction velocities and amplitudes. These findings may be relevant to emerging therapies that promote an aggressive lowering of serum cholesterol levels in patients with T2D.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study investigated the isolated and crossed effects of familial histories (FH) of early onset coronary heart disease (EOCHD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on diabetic offspring. METHODS The cardiometabolic phenotype of 1098 T2DM patients was analyzed according to an FH of T2DM and/or EOCHD, including body composition, fasting insulinemia, insulin sensitivity, β-cell function (BCF), lipids, lipoprotein(a), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) number and functionality, and micro- and macrovascular complications. RESULTS Mean age and T2DM duration were 69 and 18 years, respectively; 64% of patients were male, 50% (n = 550) had an FH of T2DM (DM[+]), and 13% (n = 145) had an FH of EOCHD (EOCHD[+]). Four subgroups were generated by crossing FHs: DM[-]EOCHD[-] (44%; n = 487); DM[+]EOCHD[-] (42%; n = 466); DM[-]EOCHD[+] (6%; n = 61); and DM[+]EOCHD[+] (8%; n = 84). Microangiopathies were highest among DM[+] patients, whose BCF was deteriorating the fastest. More numerous/dysfunctional HDLs characterized EOCHD[+] patients. The greatest frequency of cardiovascular disease (CVD; 69%) was observed in DM[-]EOCHD[+] patients, whose lipoprotein(a) and insulinemia were also highest (81 nmol/L and 140 pmol/L, respectively). The lowest frequency of CVD (30%) was observed in DM[+]EOCHD[-] patients. CONCLUSIONS Familial histories of DM and EOCHD predispose to increased microvascular and macrovascular risk, respectively, with hyperinsulinemia, lipoprotein(a), and dysfunctional HDLs standing out as mediators of the inherited macrovascular risk. Yet, crossing these FHs did not randomly redistribute vascular risk, because patients with parental T2DM had fewer macrovascular diseases regardless of familial EOCHD. The odds of being left-handed were unexpectedly greater in patients with crossed parental histories.

Abstract
AIMS Non-Caucasian migrants require dedicated approaches in diabetes management due to specific genetic; socio-cultural; demographic and anthropological determinants. Documenting such phenotypes allows for better understanding unmet needs and management priorities. METHODS This age- and sex-adjusted case-control (1:6 ratio) study compared 56 T2DM Turkish migrants (70% males) resident in Belgium [Tu] with 336 T2DM Caucasians [Ca], all benefiting from state-funded healthcare. RESULTS The 2 groups did not differ regarding BMI; waist circumference; fat mass; visceral fat; muscle mass; insulin sensitivity; insulinemia; metabolic syndrome; hypertension; lipid-modifying drugs; and macroangiopathy. They also had similar renal function and (micro)albuminuria. Education (low/high) and ethanol consumption were lower among [Tu]: 83/17% and 2.0 U/wk vs 43/57% and 13.6 U/wk in [Ca] (p < 0.0001). β-cell function loss (BCF) was higher in [Tu]: 1.58(0.45) vs 1.35(0.54)%/yr (p 0.0027), as was HbA1c: 8.39(1.91) vs 7.48(1.35)% in [Ca] (p < 0.0001). Diabetes duration and insulin use were increased in [Tu]: 19(9)yr and 70% vs 16(8)yr and 48% in [Ca] (p 0.0111 and 0.0024). Atherogenic dyslipidemia (AD) was more prevalent in [Tu]: 64% vs 49% (p 0.0309), who had higher non-HDL-C; apolipoprotein B100; LDL-C; and triglycerides; and lower HDL-C and apolipoprotein A-I levels (all p < 0.05). Overall microangiopathy; retinopathy; and neuropathy were more prevalent in [Tu]: 55-35-37% vs 40-18-20% in [Ca] (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS These results should raise concerns about poor glycaemic control; rapid BCF loss; severe AD; and microangiopathy among Turkish migrants with T2DM. Targeting AD could improve the cardiometabolic profile of this minority given the relationship between AD and residual vascular risk.
