Abstract
BACKGROUND Ultraprocessed foods (UPFs) are associated with elevated risk of noncommunicable disease, but little is known about UPF intake and the individual-, household-, and community-level factors associated with it among adolescents in low- or middle-income countries. OBJECTIVES We estimated the association of UPF intake across adolescence with sociodemographic characteristics and maternal UPF intake in a Filipino cohort. METHODS Data were from 4 waves (1994-2005) of the Cebu Longitudinal Health and Nutrition Survey (n = 2068); participants were aged 11, 15, 18, and 21 y. Foods from 24-h recalls were classified using NOVA. We used two-part multilevel models to estimate time-varying associations of the odds and amount (percentage daily kilocalories) of UPF intake with sociodemographic characteristics and maternal UPF intake (none, below median among UPF-consuming mothers ["low"], at or above median ["high"]). RESULTS Median UPF intake (interquartile range [IQR]) among adolescents was 7.3% (IQR: 0, 17.2%) of daily kilocalories at age 11 y and 10.6% (IQR: 3.6, 19.6%) at 21 y. The odds and amount of adolescent UPF intake were positively associated with female sex, years of schooling, and household wealth and inversely associated with household size. The odds-but not amount-of adolescent UPF intake was positively associated with maternal education and urbanicity and inversely associated with the distance from a household's primary store/market. The association between odds of adolescent UPF intake and school enrollment was positive in adolescence but disappeared in early adulthood. Compared with offspring whose mothers did not consume UPFs, the odds of UPF intake among those whose mothers had low or high UPF intake was greater in adolescence, but there was no association once offspring became adults. At all ages, maternal UPF intake was positively associated with the amount of offspring intake. CONCLUSIONS Adolescent UPF intake varied across sociodemographic characteristics and was positively associated with maternal UPF intake, but not after adolescents entered adulthood.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Whether observational study can be employed to establish calibration equations for self-reported dietary intake using food biomarkers is unknown. OBJECTIVES This study aims to demonstrate the feasibility of obtaining calibration equations based on food biomarkers and 7-d diet records (7DDRs) to correct measurement errors of food frequency questionnaires (FFQs) in an observational study setting. METHODS The study population consisted of 669 males and 749 females from the Women's and Men's Lifestyle Validation Studies. In the training set, the biomarker-predicted intake derived by regressing 7DDR-assessed intake on urinary proline betaine concentration was regressed on the FFQ-assessed intake to obtain the calibration equations. The regression coefficients were applied to the test set to calculate the calibrated FFQ intake. We examined total citrus as well as individual citrus fruits/beverages. RESULTS Urinary proline betaine was moderately correlated with orange juice intake (Pearson correlation [r] = 0.53 for 7DDR and 0.48 for FFQ) but only weakly correlated with intakes of orange (r = 0.12 for 7DDR and 0.15 for FFQ) and grapefruit (r = 0.14 for 7DDR and 0.09 for FFQ). The FFQ-assessed citrus intake was systematically higher than the 7DDR-assessed intake, and after calibrations, the mean calibrated FFQ measurements were almost identical to 7DDR assessments. In the test set, the mean intake levels from 7DDRs, FFQs, and calibrated FFQs were 62.5, 75.3, and 63.2 g/d for total citrus; 41.6, 42.5, and 41.9 g/d for orange juice; 11.8, 24.3, and 12.3 g/d for oranges; and 8.3, 9.3, and 8.6 g/d for grapefruit, respectively. We observed larger differences between calibrated FFQ and 7DDR assessments at the extreme ends of intake, although, on average, good agreements were observed for all citrus except grapefruit. CONCLUSIONS Our 2-step calibration approach has the potential to be adapted to correct systematic measurement error for other foods/nutrients with established food biomarkers in a cost effective way.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the reach, adoption, implementation and effectiveness of an intervention to increase children's vegetable intake in long day care (LDC). DESIGN A 12-week pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trial, informed by the multiphase optimisation strategy (MOST), targeting the mealtime environment and curriculum. Children's vegetable intake and variety was measured at follow-up using a modified Short Food Survey for early childhood education and care and analysed using a two-part mixed model for non-vegetable and vegetable consumers. Outcome measures were based on the RE-AIM framework. SETTING Australian LDC centres. PARTICIPANTS Thirty-nine centres, 120 educators and 719 children at follow-up. RESULTS There was no difference between intervention and waitlist control groups in the likelihood of consuming any vegetables when compared with non-vegetable consumers for intake (OR = 0·70, (95 % CI 0·34-1·43), P = 0·32) or variety (OR = 0·73 (95 % CI 0·40-1·32), P = 0·29). Among vegetable consumers (n 652), there was no difference between groups in vegetable variety (exp(b): 1·07 (95 % CI:0·88-1·32, P = 0·49) or vegetable intake (exp(b): 1·06 (95 % CI: 0·78, 1·43)), P = 0·71) with an average of 1·51 (95 % CI 1·20-1·82) and 1·40 (95 % CI 1·08-1·72) serves of vegetables per day in the intervention and control group, respectively. Intervention educators reported higher skills for promoting vegetables at mealtimes, and knowledge and skills for teaching the curriculum, than control (all P < 0·001). Intervention fidelity was moderate (n 16/20 and n 15/16 centres used the Mealtime environment and Curriculum, respectively) with good acceptability among educators. The intervention reached 307/8556 centres nationally and was adopted by 22 % eligible centres. CONCLUSIONS The pragmatic self-delivered online intervention positively impacted educator's knowledge and skills and was considered acceptable and feasible. Intervention adaptations, using the MOST cyclic approach, could improve intervention impact on children' vegetable intake.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increasing attention is being paid to lifestyle factors, such as nutrition and physical activity (PA), as potential complementary treatment options in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Previous research indicates that sugar and saturated fat intake may be linked to increased impulsivity, a core symptom of ADHD, whereas protein intake and PA may be related to reduced impulsivity. However, most studies rely on cross-sectional data that lack microtemporal resolution and ecological validity, wherefore questions of microtemporal dynamics (eg, is the consumption of foods high in sugar associated with increased impulsivity within minutes or hours?) remain largely unanswered. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) has the potential to bridge this gap. OBJECTIVE This study is the first to apply EMA to assess microtemporal associations among macronutrient intake, PA, and state impulsivity in the daily life of adults with and without ADHD. METHODS Over a 3-day period, participants reported state impulsivity 8 times per day (signal-contingent), recorded food and drink intake (event-contingent), and wore an accelerometer. Multilevel 2-part models were used to study the association among macronutrient intake, PA, and the probability to be impulsive as well as the intensity of impulsivity (ADHD: n=36; control: n=137). RESULTS No association between macronutrient intake and state impulsivity was found. PA was not related to the intensity of impulsivity but to a higher probability to be impulsive (ADHD: β=-.09, 95% CI -0.14 to -0.04; control: β=-.03, 95% CI -0.05 to -0.01). No evidence was found that the combined intake of saturated fat and sugar amplified the increase in state impulsivity and that PA alleviated the positive association between sugar or fat intake and state impulsivity. CONCLUSIONS Important methodological considerations are discussed that can contribute to the optimization of future EMA protocols. EMA research in the emerging field of nutritional psychiatry is still in its infancy; however, EMA is a highly promising and innovative approach as it offers insights into the microtemporal dynamics of psychiatric symptomology, dietary intake, and PA in daily life.

Abstract
According to the individual-difference model, individuals differ in the way stress changes their eating behaviour. Research shows that some increase, some decrease, and others show no change in food intake. Despite numerous efforts to identify moderating variables that explain these individual (i.e., between-person) differences, evidence remains inconclusive. The present study aims at deepening the understanding of the stress and eating relationship by applying ecological momentary assessment to study (1) the influence of stress on whether and how much individuals eat and (2) the moderating role of gender, age, BMI, trait stress-eating, and eating styles. The APPetite-mobile-app was used for 3 days to capture actual food intake (event-contingent) and perceived stress (signal-contingent). Data of 154 healthy adults suggest that stress is not associated with whether but how much individuals eat. Only gender moderated the relationship between stress and the amount of food intake. Individual differences were small indicating that an individual's dietary response to stress might not be as stable as yet assumed. Moreover, a study suggests that time-varying factors (e.g., food availability) moderate the stress and eating relationship. Hence, intraindividual (i.e., within-person) variability may be relevant. Therefore, we propose an expansion of the individual-difference model, which accounts for time-varying factors.
