Abstract
INTRODUCTION Infection prevention and control (IPC) is crucial in healthcare settings, particularly during pandemics like COVID-19. Radiographers play a vital role in maintaining patient safety by following IPC guidelines. However, there is concern that inadequate knowledge and practice of IPC among radiographers may compromise patient safety. Education and training programs can enhance radiographers' understanding of IPC to maintain safety in radiology departments. This scoping review aims to explore the literature on the knowledge of radiographers in IPC and the effectiveness of IPC education/training programs provided to radiographers and other healthcare workers (HCWs) in the radiology department, with a specific focus on the periods before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS This scoping review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute's framework. The steps involved were: Define objectives and questions, align inclusion criteria with objectives, planning the evidence search and extraction, searching for evidence, selecting relevant evidence, extracting evidence, analysing evidence, presenting results, and summarising findings and noting implications. RESULTS Sixty-eight articles were included. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, practices among radiology HCWs were suboptimal, but improved significantly during the pandemic. During the pandemic, radiology departments implemented education programs to address inconsistence knowledge in IPC. Unfortunately, no studies explored IPC practices after the pandemic, leaving uncertainty about sustained improvements or potential regression. CONCLUSION The review highlights the limited assessment of IPC knowledge and practice among radiology HCWs, with most studies recommending further education and training programs. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE This scoping review explored IPC education and training among radiology HCWs, which is an important research topic after the COVID-19 pandemic to help reduce infection transmission in healthcare environments.

Abstract
Infection prevention and control (IPC) practices are key to preventing and controlling the spread of pathogens in medical imaging departments (MIDs). The objective of this scoping review was to synthesise information about current research in MID regarding IPC and to use the Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) model to identify the work system factors ('persons', 'organisation', 'tools and technology', 'tasks' and 'environment') influencing the practice of IPC, in order to better understand challenges and facilitators that affect IPC in MID. Predefined search terms and medical subject headings relating to IPC in the medical imaging setting were used to search 3 databases. A total of 46 publications met the inclusion criteria, which combined, encompassed all five SEIPS domains influencing IPC. The literature supports the interrelated nature of the five SEIPS domains, and influence to one another. Hand hygiene was a major focus of publications. Mechanisms of infection in contrast-enhanced computed tomography were most reported, with human error, lack of education, and issues associated with devices and processes mechanisms found to influence IPC breaches. A systems approach, such as the SEIPS model, is useful for understanding barriers and hence opportunities for improvement of IPC in the medical imaging setting. Future studies should address individuals' decision-making processes in the medical imaging setting, and a greater focus should be placed into the procedural steps, education and tools used for contrast media administration. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: A systems approach, such as the Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety model, is useful for understanding barriers and hence opportunities for improvement of IPC in the medical imaging setting. KEY POINTS: 1. IPC in the medical imaging setting would benefit from a systems approach. 2. The role of education and monitoring of IPC compliance requires further research. 3. Geographical location is a key variable in IPC research in medical imaging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infection prevention and control (IPC) in the medical imaging (MI) setting is recognised as an important factor in providing high-quality patient care and safe working conditions. Surveys are commonly used and have advantages for IPC research. The aim of this study was to identify the core concepts in surveys published in the literature that examined IPC in MI environments. METHODS A literature review was conducted to identify studies that employed a survey relating to IPC in the MI setting. For each included study, descriptive study information and survey information were extracted. For IPC-specific survey items, directed content analysis was undertaken, using eleven pre-determined codes based on the 'Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare'. Content that related to 'Knowledge', 'Attitudes' and 'Practice' were also identified. RESULTS A total of 23 studies and 21 unique surveys were included in this review. IPC-specific survey items assessed diverse dimensions of IPC, most commonly relating to 'transmission-based precautions' and 'applying standard and transmission-based precautions during procedures'. 'Practice' and 'Knowledge' related survey items were most frequent, compared to 'Attitudes'. CONCLUSION MI research using survey methods have focused on the 'entry' points of IPC, rather than systemic IPC matters around policy, education, and stewardship. The concepts of 'Knowledge', 'Attitudes' and 'Practice' are integrated in IPC surveys in the MI context, with a greater focus evident on staff knowledge and practice. Existing topics within IPC surveys in MI are tailored to individual studies and locales, with lack of consistency to national frameworks.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the quantity and quality of studies using an observational measure of behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to narratively describe the association between self-report and observational data for behaviours relevant to controlling an infectious disease outbreak. DESIGN Systematic review and narrative synthesis of observational studies. DATA SOURCES We searched Medline, Embase, PsychInfo, Publons, Scopus and the UK Health Security Agency behavioural science LitRep database from inception to 17th September 2021 for relevant studies. STUDY SELECTION We included studies which collected observational data of at least one of three health protective behaviours (hand hygiene, face covering use and maintaining physical distance from others ('social distancing') during the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies where observational data were compared to self-report data in relation to any infectious disease were also included. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS We evaluated the quality of studies using the NIH quality assessment scale for observational studies, extracted data on sample size, setting and adherence to health protective behaviours, and synthesized results narratively. RESULTS Of 27,279 published papers on COVID-19 relevant health protective behaviours that included one or more terms relating to hand hygiene, face covering and social distancing, we identified 48 studies that included an objective observational measure. Of these, 35 assessed face covering use, 17 assessed hand hygiene behaviour and seven assessed physical distancing. The general quality of these studies was good. When expanding the search to all infectious diseases, we included 21 studies that compared observational versus self-report data. These almost exclusively studied hand hygiene. The difference in outcomes was striking, with self-report over-estimating observed adherence by up to a factor of five in some settings. In only four papers did self-report match observational data in any domains. CONCLUSIONS Despite their importance in controlling the pandemic, we found remarkably few studies assessing protective behaviours by observation, rather than self-report, though these studies tended to be of reasonably good quality. Observed adherence tends to be substantially lower than estimates obtained via self-report. Accurate assessment of levels of personal protective behaviour, and evaluation of interventions to increase this, would benefit from the use of observational methods.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compile and synthesize evidence regarding the effectiveness of quality improvement interventions in radiology and the experiences and perspectives of staff and patients. METHODS Databases searched for both published and unpublished studies were as follows: EMBASE, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Joanna Briggs Institute, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science, Mednar, Trove, Google Gray, OCLC WorldCat, and Dissertations and Theses. This review included both qualitative and quantitative studies of patients undergoing radiological examinations and/or medical imaging health care professionals; a broad range of quality improvement interventions including introduction of health information technology, effects of training and education, improved reporting, safety programs, and medical devices; the experiences and perspectives of staff and patients; context of radiological setting; a broad range of outcomes including patient safety; and a result-based convergent synthesis design. RESULTS Eighteen studies were selected from 4846 identified by a systematic literature search. Five groups of interventions were identified: health information technology (n = 6), training and education (n = 6), immediate and critical reporting (n = 3), safety programs (n = 2), and the introduction of mobile radiography (n = 1), with demonstrated improvements in outcomes, such as improved operational and workflow efficiency, report turnaround time, and teamwork and communication. CONCLUSIONS The findings were constrained by the limited range of interventions and outcome measures. Further research should be conducted with study designs that might produce findings that are more generalizable, examine the other dimensions of quality, and address the issues of cost and risk versus benefit.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to identify available mobile applications regarding education for hand hygiene and their applicability as a resource for nurses and other healthcare professionals. The aim was to assess the quality of the mobile apps for education on hand hygiene for health professionals. A review of mobile apps available from Apple App Store and Google Play Store in Brazil was conducted. The World Health Organization recommendations and the Mobile Application Rating Scale for evaluating quality were used. Six applications were selected, only three presented gamification elements incorporated into the learning method and only two of them-SureWash Pocket and Give Me 5-used the international recommendations to improve hand hygiene compliance in a more substantial and interactive way. The mean quality total score for the five rated apps was 3.41, indicating poor to acceptable quality. SureWash Pocket was the only application that reached Mobile Application Rating Scale ≥4 in all dimensions. These mobile applications can be used as complementary alternatives in addition to other available education strategies to improve the standards of hand hygiene and change the behavior of health professionals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the level of dental radiographers' compliance with infection control measures and to evaluate the factors affecting their compliance. METHODS The study included 175 dental radiographers. Compliance with infection control was evaluated with a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 33 questions related to vaccination, hand hygiene (HH), personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfection and sterilization, and use of surface barriers. Pearson's chi-square test was used to compare compliance between subgroups of radiographers. RESULTS 64.6% of participants were females, and 62.9% was younger than 30 years. 13.0% of the sample population had >10 years of experience and 28.0% take radiographs for >20 patients/day. 66.9% of participants wash their hands before/after taking radiographs. 26.3% of participants had vaccination against hepatitis B, tetanus, and tuberculosis. 12.6% fully use PPE, 10.9% perform complete disinfection and sterilization, and 16.0% apply all kinds of surfaces barriers. Vaccination was significantly affected by age, gender, and practice type. HH was affected by years of experience and number of patients radiographed per day. PPE was influenced by number of hours worked per week and patients radiographed daily. Disinfection and sterilization was affected by practice type and years of experience. The use of surface barriers was affected by age, practice type, and number of patients radiographed/day. CONCLUSIONS The current study indicated poor compliance with infection control practices among dental radiographers. We recommend continuing educational programs and training courses to increase dental radiographers' awareness of local and international infection control guidelines and to enhance their implementation of these guidelines.

Abstract
PURPOSE This quasi-experimental study sought to assess the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary intervention called "Germ-Free Hands" to improve the hand hygiene practices of students attending Thailand's Sirindhorn College of Public Health (SCPH). METHODS The intervention was developed and implemented at SCPH and incorporated education, training, a workshop, and performance feedback. The intervention targeted behavioral antecedents specified by the Health Belief Model (HBM) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Handwashing determinants (knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intentions) and hand hygiene behaviors were assessed at baseline, immediately post-intervention, and 3 months post-intervention for the intervention group at (n=60) at the Suphanburi campus of SCPH and a matched control group (n=60) of students at the Ubonratchathani campus. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, two-way measures of analysis of variance, and a generalized estimating equation to compare handwashing practices by self-reports between two groups. RESULTS The "Germ-Free Hands" intervention produced significant improvements in the intervention group's handwashing knowledge, behavioral and control beliefs, subjective norm scores, intentions, and behaviors, as compared to the control group. However, the intervention had no significant impact on normative beliefs, attitudes, or perceived behavioral control. Reported improvements also decreased 3 months post-intervention, and the number of bacterial colonies on students' hands increased over the course of the study. CONCLUSION This study adds to the evidence that multidisciplinary interventions can be effective at improving handwashing rates. However, education and training must be continuous, rather than delivered as a one-time program, in order to have sustained results. Participants may also require more in-depth instruction in correct handwashing and drying techniques to remove bacteria effectively and prevent recolonization.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evaluate, from the literature, the effectiveness of the implementation of the multimodal strategy for health professionals compliance with Hand Hygiene and its sustainability over time. METHOD Integrative review, with a view to answering the following question: "Is the implementation of the multimodal strategy effective in health professionals compliance with Hand Hygiene and can it be sustained over time?". The MEDLINE, SCOPUS, LILACS and CINAHL databases were used to retrieve the primary articles. RESULTS Twenty-five studies were analyzed. Among the components of the multimodal strategy, three need to be better worked: health education, feedback from practices and management involvement. Although it needs to focus more on its five elements, interventions based on the multimodal strategy have favored HH compliance and its long-term sustainability. CONCLUSION The strategy proved to be effective for HH compliance, especially when all integrating components are adequately addressed.

Abstract
Background Hand hygiene (HH) is an essential component for preventing and controlling of healthcare-associated infection (HAI), whereas compliance with HH among health care workers (HCWs) is frequently poor. This study aimed to assess compliance and correctness with HH before and after the implementation of a multimodal HH improvement strategy launched by the World Health Organization (WHO). Methods A quasi-experimental study design including questionnaire survey generalizing possible factors affecting HH behaviors of HCWs and direct observation method was used to evaluate the effectiveness of WHO multimodal HH strategy in a hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Multimodal HH improvement strategy was drawn up according to the results of questionnaire survey. Compliance and correctness with HH among HCWs were compared before and after intervention. Also HH practices for different indications based on WHO “My Five Moments for Hand Hygiene” were recorded. Results In total, 553 HCWs participated in the questionnaire survey and multimodal HH improvement strategy was developed based on individual, environment and management levels. A total of 5044 observations in 23 wards were recorded in this investigation. The rate of compliance and correctness with HH improved from 66.27% and 47.75% at baseline to 80.53% and 88.35% after intervention. Doctors seemed to have better compliance with HH after intervention (84.04%) than nurses and other HCWs (81.07% and 69.42%, respectively). When stratified by indication, compliance with HH improved for all indications after intervention (P < 0.05) except for “after body fluid exposure risk” and “after touching patient surroundings”. Conclusion Implementing the WHO multimodal HH strategy can significantly improve HH compliance and correctness among HCWs.
